I just ordered my Nexus One (woot!) and am thinking about how to transfer all my stuff from my G1 running latest Cyanogen to the Nexus One.
Here's my plan so far:
* nandroid backup of G1 (disaster recovery)
* user-level backup of G1 data: what should I use for this? Blackgin backup?
* Root N1 (superboot; does factory restore)
* pop SIM and SD into N1
* reinstall all apps (re-download from market)
* restore some data from backup
I assume I'll have to reinstall all my apps, since the N1 won't have apps2sd. In fact I can probably wipe out the ext3 partition on the SD card eventually.
But what about app settings and stuff not saved on SD or to the cloud? I.e. notes, bookmarks, favorite contacts, shopping lists, Locale settings, SMS messages, etc.? Any ideas for mass backup/restore of this stuff or individual backups for each type?
I'm very much looking forward to seeing some of the first bricked Nexus Ones
Good luck.
Back up info
Try using My Backup Pro. You can either store all your information, like call log, contacts, SMS and MMS, and even settings and information in compatible programs (mine backs up OI Notepad & Power Manager, but I'm sure there are others) on either your SD card or online. It is pretty fast and does a great job. I like the online portion of it because I had my SD card take a dump once and I had to reformat the whole thing.

I was trying to find a post on what to exclude for PIE temp files and thought maybe people have more options than that.
so what's the pie temp exclusion and what other things do u have set for sprite backup
do people not back up their phone here? Or not use sprite? or just backing up the whole phone including PIEs temp files?
I just backup everything. The only thing I exclude is the storage card.
I do the same, creating a self-extracting backup that goes onto the storage card.
I run a clean up with Mem Maid 2 before i do a full backup.
Do the same
Yup,
Only thing I do different then default is run CleanTemp first.
Love that little app.
ditto
full backup to storage card, except I have set up the Kaiser Tweaker to store the trash (IE cache, downloads, etc.) on microsd as well.
So, no exclusions.
Besides, I have a 6 GB card and could not care less if the backup file is 20 or 40 MB big...

That tweak DOES NOT change where your internet temporary junk goes it only changes what it says in the "bubble" that pops up when you are going to download something. If you go to windows/profiles/guest/temp internet files you'll see the junk there. you still have to go to pie menu/tools/options/memory and delete it there or memaid etc or it fill up your main memory with junk
Hey i don't know how popular it is but i love this app! It backs up bookmarks, system setting, sms and more and puts the backup on your sd card. For those flashing phone alot saves alot of headache if you need to wipe. I know there are other ways to backup but hey i like it.
Yea i actually found it as soon as i flashed to jf 1.3, saved me from a whole lot of trouble during my first wipe flashing a theme.
I think its a perfect app. Helps so much after a wipe. If you back up your apps with Astro all your data is saved too .
MyBackup is a must have...
This app is great. Its fast and reliable... Everyone needs a backup of their phone and this app does it best...
now we need to add the app backup capability found in astro into mybackup and it would be the ultimate end user backup utility.

Yeah that would be sweet!!!
App backup now available
The new version of the application backs up apps now... and has capability to schedule a daily or weekly backup... Complete backup utility now
It would be so perfect if it could install all of the backd up apps without you having to click install and done for every single one.
That would be noicee.

I agree with that. Astro is the same way isn't it?
if you rooted you g1, and put your apps on you sdcard, you never need backup you apps, even if you flash/factory reset/wipe/anything else that erases your phone you apps will still be on the ext2 partition on your sdcard i think you can even copy them to your computer if you have a linux machine
Astro is even slower when it comes to reinstalling apps.
As for putting apps on the sd, im gonna wait til google does something about that because i have enough memory left for now. Especially cuz i moved the caches.
Problems with MyBackup
ok, so i did the whole multitouch thing, and now im trying to restore my phone with MyBackup, i backed up all my apps, and all my data to an SD card. Now, i have RC33 with the multitouch add in, and i downloaded MyBackup but when i try to restore the data from the SD card, it gives mr this message: "I/O error: unable to write to SD card. Make sure the SD card is mounted properly and is not connected to your PC."
has anyone else had this problem? The apps restore fine, its only my data (sms, contacts, settings) that gives me that message. Thanks for the help
A reboot fixed that problem for me, though I'm not on RC33.
Yeah it was giving me problems, what it was doing to me is when i restored my system settings the topbar was freaking out and it played ringtones like someone was calling me but no one was, like it is getting the system sounds mixed up. No error messages but still i got rid of it.
Feel lucky. Do *not* restore your contacts using MyBackup. Just re-sync with the google server... I restored using MyBackup and I got duplicates of everyhting and it broke the syncing of my contacts.. For everything else, it worked flawlessly (fantastic for SMS!) but gmail has a backup of your contacts, so there's no use.
Yea, the application says in the opening notes to use either the gmail contact backups or the app, not to use both. There are known issues for sync messing up, but I don't think it is because of the app. Because even without this app people are having a lot of problems with their sync...
I dont know if its just me but when ever I restore my home screen shortcuts all of the shortcuts inside my folders are all messed up or even missing.
For example my games will be in my media folder and my browser short cuts will be in my shopping folder. And some folders will be empty for example my apps folder will be empty and it wont be in anyother folder.
Anyone else have this same problem?
MyBackup Pro
Check it out. This new version solves almost every problem. Restoring all the apps at once does not have any problems at all.. And its just a buck, can not go wrong... Love it!
anybody know where to download this app ? thank you
u tried the market?
I am giving my Captivate to my wife tomorrow and I am picking up the Inspire 4G. That being said, if I should backup my Captivate with Titanium Backup, will I be able to recover all of the data back on to my Inspire? Or will all or certain items be lost? i.e. contacts, pictures, apps, etc.
You should have your contacts synced to google through your gmail account.
Pics can be taken off the phone by plugging it via usb and mounting the phone, you can then drag and drop the pics to your pc.
Apps that you have downloaded are attached to your market account(gmail) so you will be able to restore them as well.
the only thing you need to worry about is your data for your apps. (copy the contents of your sd card to your pc)
Running titanium backup on the phone creates a backup for that phone, trying to restore it on a different device might not work work out so well.
Just copy everything to your external sd and swap it or copy over via computer into the htc and if you backup everything else with google it will update automatically.
Edit....enjoy the htc I am going to check them out tomorrow and may wind up with one as well.
all of a sudden when i try to backup my contacts to SD Card from the contacts app the only options showing are for the sim card, it does not show any option for the SD Card .......was working fine before.
The SD Card otherwise is fine, every other app can see it and i can mount it on my desktop.
Any ideas pls!
(pls don't just suggest google sync because i always have problems with it so don't use it, .....i like to be able to backup my contacts to a physical file that i can transfer off my phone)
thanks
[JS3 with voodoo 5.4.1]
and anyone know which file exactly holds the contacts data in titanium backup?
well if anyone was interested (which is doesn't look like) i have determined that it is a bug with JS3 .....a pretty big bug if you ask me, which might explain why JS2 came out a day later
Hi, I backed up my thunderbolt via TB before i switched to the bionic. I transferred over my 32gb ssd card as well, is there anyway I can restore the backups to my bionic?
I restored my apps from my Fascinate onto my Bionic with no trouble.
Migrating data from the contacts, etc, can be a bit more risky. TiBu has a data migration option if you have the Pro version, but it cautions that it's not guaranteed to work.
Export the contacts to SD or sync them with Google, and use SMS Backup & Restore to back up your text on the TB and restore them on the Bionic.
That should pretty much get you back up and running fairly quickly.
If you can't find your backup, copy it from the sd to the sd-ext directory(or other way, I forget now, a few drinks in) and use TB to auto detect.
Every contact I insert goes into my Google contacts so I never need backup assistant or anything like that.
I just ended up syncing to my dropbox and then adding it to my bionic
Using root explorer. Under sdcard-ext look for the titanium backup folder and copy it to sdcard folder. Then open titanium backup them reload the app.

I just wish we could just skip internal sd card and just use our sd card. This sit up blows.

How do you sync them? Some of mine sync automatically send some don't.
They just do, haven't lost one since the first time I de-blurred on the D2.
