I'm trying to get my Dream back to where it was just after rooting and flashing CM 4.2.8. I wiped my rooted Dream and flashed "signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip" then flashed "update-cm-4.2.8-signed.zip". That all went fine.
But a strange problem... The battery stays at 0% (The battery's voltage is 3.92v out of phone on DMM, a 3.7v nominal Li-Ion should be 4.2v when full) and if I unplug the USB cable it shuts down, the phone will also ONLY boot when connected to USB.
Also if I select reboot from the OS, it will switch off but not restart.
Do I have to discharge the battery out of the phone? (I have Li-Ion/Li-Po charger/discharger)
Or is there another way to get the phone to recognize the full battery?
Weird, my Battery Info (in spare parts) reports that the battery voltage is 2.465v whereas I've measured it at 3.92v...
EDIT: Battery Info reports 2.480v when battery fully charged at 4.2v and 2.465v when discharged to 3.0v???
Please can someone send me a copy of their batterystats.bin file, I want to see if changing it makes a difference, I've tried everything I can think of to get this right including 'rm'-ing the file and/or wiping immediately after/before unplugging, otherwise the phone shuts down within a few seconds.
It's 13KB, please send it to conanony[at]gmail[dot]com
I would like to help you, but i dont know how to get that file lol
pardus what recovery do you use for the phone?
if you use RA's recovery you can delete the battery info, i believe this may help your problem. also try cycling your battery
charge full to 100%
drain full to 0% where your phone wont turn on.
keep turning it on untill the G1 logo wont popup anymore
that's just my problem, the second I remove the charge/USB cable the phone shuts down, before that it never charges to full despite the battery actually being at 4.2v (shows charging(0%)) and can't drain it to 0% as it reports it's at 0% and immediately shuts down, so catch 22.
>djluis48: you can use Droid Explorer (http://de.codeplex.com/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=37999) to get the file, it's in /data/system/
Tried to flash RA's recovery from fastboot and get this: writing recovery.... FAILED (remote: battery low)
managed to flash RA's recovery and wipe the battery stats with it, however it still had it's not charging problem, then I left it over night and it charged to 30% but after removing the battery to put the sim back in the battery went back to 0%.
(btw, Battery was fine before the flash)
I suspect that this problem is the cause of many "black screen" and "I think my phone is bricked" issues.
The phone sees a full battery as empty and therefore won't boot, one way to test is to try boot into recovery with power/usb connected. One symptom I have is very short red LED flashes when trying to boot without power/usb connected and when connected a continuous red LED, then when trying to boot with power/usb > longer red flashes before eventually booting.
Well seeing as I'm talking to myself I might as well carry on...
Have managed to get the phone to boot 3 times (over 3 days) showing the correct battery values including temperature BTW, which shows as 67.7°C (153.8°F!) continually (with battery at room temp.) however when removing the battery to replace the sim which was in an old phone it was back to square one
I can't seem to replicate the actions I did to get the normal values back, one occasion was after I pressed power, menu and send together which then flashed the fastboot screen very briefly and booted after that.
Very weird, wish someone with a working knowledge of the Android system would chime in here?

Wiped and tried original ROM - RUU_DREAM.exe, reports voltage below 30%, can't continue (I know the battery is full, I just charged it from empty and it took 1153mAh), I then tried wiping (everything) and flashed CM 4.2.12 from 4.2.8 - still the same. Voltage on phone reads 2.442v, DMM on battery reads 4.157v...!!
Wiped and flashed SuperD 1.5.1 ROM, still the same problem
Phoned local HTC agents, they say must bring it in but if it doesn't have the original ROM on it then it's out of warranty...
but I can't load the original ROM using RUU_dream.exe because it won't let you flash when the phone reads a full battery as flat...and despite searching high & low I can't find a Leaf (local distributer) DREAIMG.nbh file which may be similar to a rogers but I don't want to take the chance, anyway I can't find an original DREAIMG.nbh for a rodgers only a RUU_dream.exe.
So that's it, not a brick but unusable unless connected to power...
Tried DREADIAG.nbh (HTC's diagnostic program) from the sd card via hboot, no luck, reports battery too low but I know it's charged, seems my options are running out...
same problem
most interesting information in the second paragraph.
hey dude, im having exactly the same problem, but im in a bit of an odder situation still. i've been trying to get back to factory setting so that i could see if it works then.. (i've had mine so long its out of warranty anyway) i've never even gotten mine to say it has any battery since this problem started, i even went to the trouble of ordering a second battery from ebay to see if it works.. i mean i had two batteries to begin with one extended one regular. i thought maybe my extended battery went bad so i put the regular one in but still no luck, but i thought maybe it went bad from less than ideal sorage conditions, so i've got another one on the way. sucks to know its probably just wasted money.
Anyway, heres my situation. I was trying to get back to factory so i started by flashing the original recovery image (since i was coming from an inofficial one, it was no big deal) i know know i should have flashed the spl first.. because now the recovery wont let me flash anything unofficial, and i dont know that i have an offical update.zip from t-mobile. also i dont know if the hard spl somehow requires an unofficial rom to be flashed. anyway right now my recovery image wont let me flash anything it seems. i have the hard spl, official recovery image, and my rom is dream_devphone-userdebug 1.6 DRC83 14721 test keys.. i have no idea who even made that one.. i think haykuro or the dude???? (my humblest of appologies for not giving proper credit if this is someone else's work)
i think at this point my phone may just be a usb modem and nothing else. im also like a year away from an upgrade so im back to my old hp 6315 or mda.. but i've lent that to a friend.... i also have an old mpx 200 with some awesome firmware (also thanks to xda developers love you guys) or a super old sony-ericsson t86i... i really wish there was a way to put android on my hp 6315 but i think pigs have a better chance at flying than that coming to fruition. anyway if anybody else has this problem and figures it out, please let us know what to do.
My phone started to do this a few days ago, it's driving me nuts. I don't know what the heck is wrong with it.
One way to tell for sure if it is this problem, try the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614987
I am in the same boat. It just came out of no where. I have flashed roms, changed sp,l wiped battery stats, and tried to change back to DREAIMG and like you guys said it says low voltage.
Has anyone had any luck at all with this?

Hello good people,
I've been searching the forums but i don't seem to be able to find a solution for my dead kaiser.
I'll explain the problem:
When i push the power button on my Kaiser, it start's booting the first part, displaying the "smart mobility" slogan by HTC, after a few seconds, some data appears in red, in the right lower corner of the screen, this is what is says:
R 1.27.12.11
G 22.45.88.07H
D 1.56.00.00
After displaying this for a while (about 1 min.) it goes to the Windows Mobile Splash Screen.
After displaying this for a few seconds (5 to 10 secs) it makes the "empty battery" sound and shuts down.
Can someone help me ?
*** And NO, the battery is NOT empty ... i've charged it over night, and the power light was green. ***
I've tried booting with and without SIM and MicroSD cards ... makes no difference.

Will it boot with the phone plugged in to power?
Bill
Yeah, try booting with the charger on. Chances are that your battery' life is out..
Reagdrs,
Carty..
I have had the same thing and wondered if it was the battery... except that sometimes it will stay on for about 2 minutes, sometimes half an hour... but most of the time as soon as it goes to the Today screen, I get the battery dead sound and then it turns off. I am going to try to use another battery to see if that makes a difference.
it's not the battery
I've tried with the power cord on the phone, it does 2 things:
1. The same thing as i said before
2. Doesn't boot at all, it halts on the screen where the red data shows up and stays there until you take the power cord off and the battery out.
It does one of these things, randomly.
I've also tried with another battery from my friends kaiser which works perfectly.
So i guess it's not the battery, anyone another idea what it could be?
Might be something wrong with the firmware or anything? problem is, i can't flash it if it doesn't boot can i ??
any ideas ?
Today i managed to get my hands on a brand new kaiser battery, my uncle has a brand new kaiser and i borrowed his battery.
His battery was full, i put it in my kaiser and tried booting, same problem as above.
I've tried with the power cord plugged into the phone, the charging led went on, and i tried booting, same as above.
Later i've tried with the USB cable connected to the phone and the computer, still the same.
I've also tried soft&hard resetting with the new battery, no succes.
So therefore, i believe it's not a battery or a power problem, it must be firmware corrupted or something of the hardware broke ?
Does anyone has any idea how i can try to re-flash this thing ? to find out if that might be the problem ?
It's not the battery. Could be a bad flash or something. Try to reflash it. Yes, it will reflash even though it won't "boot" as you say. Try to reflash and then report back. Remove the memory card for now.
Also, what Rom and SPL are you using?
Ur going to have to force it into the bootloader to flash it, no biggie. Just hold down the power and camera buttons, and hold the soft reset button with the stylus, untill you get the tri color boot screen. Then flash away! I would flash a stock rom until u can tell weather your problem is hardware related or not. If hardware related keep the stock rom and spl, and try to warrenty return it.
O.k., this just happened to my Brand New kaiser last night too, WTF! Was running fine when the low battery icon came up with half battery life n shut down, now it wont start up at home screen for more than 3 secs before it shuts down and says the battery is dead even while its plugged in! There's no way to reflash or hard reset since it doesn't stay on long enough to do so. Just ordered my replacement, but reading different forums, it seems many people have experienced this with Kaiser and most around the same time, again, WTF!!!

Does it power off while beeing in bootloader? You doesnt have to start the device up to get into bootloader you know. Try checking if it shuts down while beeing in bootloader, if its not just reflash. Another thing, what spl and rom are you guys having this problem using?
It's alive!!!
Finally got it to bootloader mode before it dies and reflashed and it seems to be running just fine now. Using spl ver.1 with schaps 4.30 wm 6 (although users running the stock rom had the same experience). Got the "smart chip not provisioned mm 2" message most likely from at&t killing my sim card from a reorder as they did when I Returned the Iphone which is a rediculous policy(policing); having to constantly contact at&t to update to a new sim. Still, it makes me wonder what caused this defunct in the first place, and if it'll happen again tomorrow or the next day. Reflashing and reinstalling cabs is a Real *****, especially for a pda where people use their device for business and gather a collection of missed calls and lost connections when the Os decides to randomly crash. As much as I dig htc's devices, it's kinda strange how HTC, with such a huge marketshare with pda's, is so quiet about updates or firmware fixes. Anyways, long live the only source for htc fixes, XDA!!
Mine is still completely in the state in which i got it.
Just the stock HTC Firmware, rom's and loaders
Okay, a little update.
How the hell can i flash this thing if it keeps on bugging me with the "Wrong vender ID" message when i try to flash it ?
I know, install HardSPL ... but how can i ? without a possibility to connect ActiveSync?, you'll have to start the device for that and run activesync, but i can't because it won't even boot.
Is there any other way of getting this device to allow me to flash without needing to boot it up fully.
I have no problems getting in to the Tri-Color bootloader, but no further.
When updating it gets to 1%, then my PC gives the message: "Wrong vender ID, please use your own device's update utility" and the phone stays at 1% till i rip out the battery.
ok guys I have the same problem with two of my kaiser's
I can power them up but in aproximately 1 minut goes off, no matter if the charger is plugged or not, it doesn't make a difference
I can put the phone in tri-color screen and stays there with no problem
and I can flash them with no problem because they are olipro already
but after flash them with anything still the same problem ???
so if anybody has a clue or maybe a rom to fix this would be great
thanks
best regards
linterna
One more thing. I have the same problem but mine when starts flashes Blue LED when was good hasn't. I Started few times and it works for 2-3 weeks and again. Best to do is to not use camera. Every time it happends i ise my camera and battery was middle-low. I think its some problem with camera. Many times it don't want to start up or saids that there is no memory for saving photo. Maybe i should flash rom from wersion without cameras.
im having the same problem, has anyone solved this?
Yeah solve . HTC as a kids toy .
Buy Nokia! Or SonyEricsson.
I won't buy smartphone ever again.
Does not boot to the OS
I have the similar problem...... My kaiser is dead not even booting with battery only (not plugged to the PC or external charger).
However when I plugged it to the power source it boots up and continue to the OS and boom (shuts off) in split of second.
I tried different flash and it propelry boots and got windows up and running when plugged to the PC with the old ATT test ROM which I got from the xda threads.
But with the latest roms it wont boot to the windows , it dies before that.
Anyone having idea what could resolve this.
any update on this? i am having the same problem. i tried a hard reset already with no success it goes to the splash screen and says "the device is clearing the storage. please wait" then pings and turns off
r 1.65.21.18
g 25.88.40.05h
d 3.57.00.00
my phone is completely stock and has never been unlocked or messed with. found an updated at&t rom, i ran it and none of the numbers change in the bootup, then goes to the splash screen and says again "the device is clearinng the storage. please wait" and then pings and turns off.
also i have been searching for the oilpro or jockeyw hard spl files on google and on here but have found nothing, the search function doesnt seem to be able to find much.
any help would be appreciative, thanks in advance
Don't mean to hijack but didn't want to make my own thread when this one was here. I'm not having exactly the same problem as everyone else but I am having a battery issue. It works fine and says it's charging when plugged in but when I unplug it the battery goes down fast (like 1-4 % a minute) and when it hits around 70%, it shuts off. Then whenever I turn it on, it immediately shuts down before the Today screen fully shows (like others are mentioning here). I have to plug it back into the charger to get it to turn on again.
Could this be a bad flash too..? I know I did one of the latest HardSPLs and tonight I just now updated to the latest stock AT&T ROM. But it can't be a flash because the night I got it (bought it used on eBay), I was playing with it not plugged in using Skype and it shut off on me. I didn't think much of it and had always had it plugged in since then.
I'm assuming I simply need a new battery.. I've emailed the original owner and she says she never had any problems with it like this.

I've just started having the same problem as you. Very annoying. Mine phone is a year and a half old now, so i'm assuming the battery is coming to an end.
Charge battery, will last a while, but goes down to around 80-70% and then it says plug power in blah blah blah and dies. Then when you charge it, it stays on one or 2 bars for a bit and then jumps to 100% fully charged.
Saw a procedure to "reset" the battery. Supposedly have to take the battery out for a bit then plug in and charge fully over night with the phone OFF. None of this seemed to work for me... I'm due for an upgrade in January, so is it really worth paying for a new battery... hmmm
Hi,
i need some help trying to figure out what do i need to do to get my N1 to function again.
I had KiNgxKxNexus Desire2Nexus (v1) ROM loaded on my N1. i don't know for what reason i tried to load latest intersectRaven's Kernel(20100421_2237-the update.zip version)on top and that's when i start having issues. After i loaded the .zip file, phone rebooted and it was stuck/looping on the HTC screen for about 10 min.
I removed the battery and since then i cant get it to boot. all i get is a flashing LED (top right side)--looping on orange-green-green.
removed battery, SIM, SD card.
I plugin the wall charger(with no battery) and same issue.
when i put battery back in, i get the LED red, and if i try to power it on, i get same loop - orange-green-green.
tried to connect N1 to PC, and use adb, but PC its not seeing the phone.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
Just go into recovery and wipe then flash your desired ROM.
You get a similar sequence, when you try to start the phone without the battery pack (with just the charger). I tried that to help someone in another thread, so just remember the phone won't start without its battery.
I don't remember the exact orange/green sequence in my case (and don't have the charger with me right now), but i guess that either your battery pack died coincidentally or that there is some other low-level hardware problem. The red light could also indicate an empty battery (that maybe broken and won't charge).
Can you borrow a battery from someone? I wouldn't try to use your battery in another phone to be safe though.

i cant go into bootloader or recovery. tried the power+trackball, power+vol down... no luck. - my PC doesn't see the phone to use adb.
when i turn the phone on, my screen its black...i don't get anything on the screen.
i got it to work.
over nite i left the battery out of the phone. this morning i put the battery in, plug in the wall charger, and turn the phone on (power+trackball) and i got to bootloader. from there i was able to go in recovery and fix my phone.
hey, thats great! please have a look at the battery from time to time, if the phone gets hotter than normal.
I have the same problem, but not because i flashed , but I put strange extra battery in , that didn't worked, And N1 was just flashing orange, green , orange, green, 1 sec interval ...
I put new one in and worked like a charm.
Don't buy from 4U-kidi. Dead battery!
Hey all, My G1 was running ok on CM5 until I decided to try the zachattack052 sense rom. A day after that rom was loaded, the phone started shutting itself off and would not power back up unless it is plugged. The red led light blinks every two seconds or so when I try to power up with just the battery. Then I decided to completely do a wipe and re-install CM5 from stratch. That seemed to work for a day or two then the problem returned. I am now back to the generic G1 rom with 2.22.19.261 radio and latest G1 SPL and still having issues. With the phone plugged in to power, it boots up and says charging at 0% and would then shut off within a few minutes. I have also tried the battery calibration app and no dice.
Now you may be thinking that the battery is the issue, but it is not. I have an un-rooted stock G1 and that one is able to fully charge the batteries. Then I swap the batteries and still no luck....blinky red led. These two batteries are new 1400mah.
The weird thing is that the phone will stay running on battery power only when booted into recovery or fastboot mode (in other words, plugg power in, boot into recovery/fastboot, unplug power, phone lasts forever with battery)
What is wrong with my G1?
Would un-rooting it and going back help?

Please help
Probably cleaning the battery stats may help you, only a hint
Sent from my Gingerbread on Dream using XDA App
Thanks for that info. When you say stats, you mean wiping battery info from recovery right? I have done that many times.
But now it really gets interesting....
I just flashed a donut rom (zachattact052) with 2.22.23.02 radio and Danger SPL and right away the phone booted up by itself (where previously it needed to be plugged in and manually be turned on) and the LED now showed orange indicating it is actually charging. However, within a few minutes of the phone being on and plugged in, the orange LED goes away, turns red and it begins to discharge while being plugged in.
...so confused.
Anyone else able to help me out/guide me?
I re-flashed the radio and it seemed like that fixed it. But shortly after that, the problem returned. I also tried the ohsaka superwipe, but still having issues and does not even re-boot automatically after flashing radio. Considering I am able to install a rom and run it for a minute or two, is my device considered bricked? If so, what would be the proper procedure to un-brick?
Thanks

Phone is not bricked....You'll know when it's bricked when recovery, booloaders, and normal boot don't work. That's when you have a G1 paper weight. The problem could simply be that the batteries are not full of life...Most of the G1's avail batteries would have to be over 1 1/2 yrs of age. The cells in battery are suppose to die, even when it's not being used. If you were to buy a battery for a laptop that's 10yrs old today, you can't expect the battery to have the same life as when it was first made. No, instead you'll have under 30mins on that new batt you just got for it. Anyway my point is that this can't be helped, you could try calibrating too or get a new phone.

Thanks Ace, I completely understand what you said about batteries not lasting.
However, why is it that my rooted G1 cannot boot on battery power, where my un-rooted G1 will boot and run on the exact same battery plus charge to 100%?

Try these
-Wipe battery stats in recovery, then calibrate battery
-Phone has hardware defect, causing some power issue
Thanks Ace.
I gave up on this G1 and walked way leaving it off while plugged in with the red led light. I don't know why, but 2 hours later, I decided to give it one more shot. It booted up, battery showed 99% and the led finally showed green....wtf????
I have then followed your advice (considering I had previously wiped the battery stats hundreds of times) and I am currently discharging the battery. Spare Parts shows battery has good health at 59% with 3.861v at 33.0 degrees C. Current ROM is zachattacks052 & xillius200's Donut with 2.22.23.02 radio and Danger SPL.
I have been running a few apps and stressing the phone for almost an hour....lets see how long it holds up for. The next test would be how it performs once the battery is completely drained and if it can boot up easily.
whenever my has battery died, i plugged it into the charger and every time i plugged it in recovery has opened up. However, today i plugged it in and it wouldnt charge at all and so i tried to reinstall my rom and now it wont even start up. The battery is completely dead and every time i plug it in to charge, the orange light comes on, goes away and the recovery screen shows for a second then the phone restarts and keeps on doing that. I've tried everything . Please help me out.
Thanks.
visit a local phone shop, ask them if you can borrow one of their batteries for a few minutes to fix your phone, or ask them if you can charge your own battery in their display phone, if they are not assholes they should help you out
i dont think its a battery issue though, recovery doesnt even boot up all the way it quickly flashes 2 lines then it restarts. Ill try the battery option though.
have you flashed the newest recovery?
i hadn't gotten to it yet, i was planning on doing it really soon though. The problem is that it wont even boot into anything. it will go into cwm for half a second and then turn off and then keeps on cycling.

you cant boot into fastboot?
nope, it boots straight into cwm. its really weird. I tried looking it up first but had no luck finding anything similar to my situation.
iff the battery is charged, you may possibly just have a hardware fault, I have a similar fault on my HTC HD2 where similar things happen with CWM and booting in cycles, I stick it in the freezer for 5 minutes and then pull it out and boot it, and it works then... maybe try that?
i let it stay on the charger overnight and when i woke up this morning it fixed itself. I have no idea what happened. needless to say, im going to reset everything and reinstall everything.

This is why I don't recommend anyone use the old recoveries that some ROM devs are suggesting.
Please, general public: don't install any recoveries that don't support charge mode!
If certain conditions are met, it's possible to be stuck without a way to charge the battery if you use a recovery that doesn't support battery charging (since recovery handles offmode charging on this device).
If you haven't done so already, please update to the new CWM I posted a few weeks ago that does support charge mode.
Hey guys, recently I've been having a problem with my battery. I've tried different roms and still have the same problem.
if the battery is fully charged, half etc and the phone is restarted, the battery screen shows up and shows an empty battery, turns off, restarts and shows the empty battery screen again, turns off, restarts and keeps doing this until I plug the charger in. once I plug it in, the battery shows full, or what ever the current charge is and phone starts up fine again.
I've noticed that sometimes the battery percentage goes up without being on charge or even sticks at a percentage for a few hours then drops a lot.
Has anyone else had this problem or know how to solve?

Hey guys, recently I've been having a problem with my battery. I've tried different roms and still have the same problem.

I have found alot on my problem surfing through the forums with many saying they have solved the problem by flashing CM10 mod. Another that i found was a flash with "param.lfs". Apparently this solves boot problems but I cant see how to use this file.
Any help with a step by step guide or just any help at all is very much appreciated

just select it as PDA and flash with Odin3 , download from My Android Solutions
Thanks for your reply, param fix didn't solve my problem. The first rom I installed ( before I found the wonderful world of xda developers ) was this one:
aokp_galaxysmtd_jb_build-2.zip
Which I got from a site called "ibtimes"
(I've tried to post the exact link but I need to make 10 posts within the forums to get this option)
Since then I've had this battery boot loop problem. Restart works fine, but power off and powering back up gives this infinite boot loop. is it possible that this first rom has corrupted my phone?

Doubt it, it would more be due to wrong flashing procedures , anyway have a number of options to get over bootloops in My Android Solutions
But First powerdown, pull out Battery, SIM CARD, and EXT.SD card, press power button for a minute, than powerup without SIM and Ext.SD Card...make sure you have more than 50% battery charge before you attempt any sort of flashing.
I have looked in depth through the "My Android Solutions" and tried flashing a 512.pit and also tried a new semephore kernel without success, I still had the battery bootloop.
My phone does work if started with charger plugged in but its a worry if im out and about and the phone dies. theres no way i can restart it without the charger boost.
so.....
Im looking at the Recovery Kit now.
"i9000 Rescue Rescue Kit for i9000 using heimdall packed by ldq"
I have never used heimdall and the files within the rescue kit are confusing to know how to use them correctly.
I have looked within the forums for a "how to" guide using Heimdall but it feels like its over my head, and to be honest, it seems that if i make any kind of mistake i could hard brick my phone which scares me :crying:
:fingers-crossed: A total NOOB guide would be so greatly appreciated, or if there are any other solutions besides using the rescue kit Id love to know about them.
Thank you very much for your assistance

You can use the EZbase with root or Darkys, it uses Odin and has guide , all of them are rescue kits or even a JVU upgrade ROM (also mentioned in the top)
I tried quite a few stock roms with the same result, darkys 10.2 EE and darkys 11, 4.0.4 ICS and again same results. This morning I went back to the GB stock rom ( " I9000XXJVU_I9000OXAJVU_OXA " with root file " CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS " ) and had the same results, battery screen bootloop after power down. :crying:
however...
After 7 hours normal use i powered the phone down and powered back up ( thinking another vain attempt ready to see the dreaded battery loop screen again ) and found the problem had completely cleared!!! Phone started like it normally should!!!
Very strange. I was ready to try a new battery and now there is no need. I'll keep powering down and powering up over the next 24 hours with different charge percentages to make sure the problem has 100% cleared it's self. :victory:
Will post back in 24 hours to confirm for anyone interested.
Thanks for the guidance xsenman, seems as though going to and from different roms with the 3 wipes each time actually solved the problem!!!
Too hasty with my last post.
Phone has started looping up at boot again with empty battery screen.
Tried another battery with the same results.
For it to work for most of the day normally booting up and to suddenly start playing up again leads me to believe that its some kind of battery stat problem.. maybe??
it powered down and powered up again fine from 100% full down to around 16%. lower than 16% and the phone looped with empty battery screen on powerup.
The battery percentage jumps quite alot after a restart, sometimes as much as 40%
surely it has to be battery stats being messed up?????
There are alot of procedures to reset battery stats on the net and a few in these forums.
I'll give some a try.
If anyone has a sure way to reset batt stats then i'd like to know please.
Thanks to anyone with help.
suggest you clean your Battery contacts on phone and Battery with cleaning alcohol and try to keep battery firmly in place with scotch tape or folded paper and give it a try
Hi!
I had the same problem.
I fixed with a sheet of paper that do pressure under the the battery for better contact with pines of the phone.
Good luck.

Thanks for the replies.
I've cleaned with electrical contact cleaner and also tried the paper trick having the paper under and around different parts of the battery, still the same, empty battery screen loop.
It only happens after power down then attemped power up, fine when just a reboot is selected though. When powering down it actually doesn't shut down, it goes into this infinite empty battery loop. I'm beginning to think some kind of hardware issue??
But also, i only started to get battery issues after my first ever custom rom install Cm9 jellybean which was not from xda. Sorry for repeating myself, im just completly stumped with this issue.

i have the same problem and i dont know what to do to solve it!!! :-S
it started when i flash a official cm10 nightly... then i flashed the stable cm9.1 and the problem disappeared... after a few days i decide to give cm10 another try and the problem started again... now i cant make this go away... i've tryed flashing other roms, even a GB JW4, and the same thing happen. I dont know what to do anymore!!!!!!
I feel the same way. It must be quite a rare problem.
Its very frustrating.
I just tried flashing that first rom i used. aokp_galaxysmtd_jb_build-4.zip which is a CM rom thinking maybe the first time i flashed was an improper flash.
still have same results.
Then tried Darkys 11 as they claim to fix bootloop problems but still have the same result. So im back to 2.3.6 GB JVU stock.
I really think we have somehow damaged the hardware by installing these CM roms.
Its as though the part in the phone which looks for battery charge in order to boot up fails and just shows battery empty until the charger is used, and also refuses to shut down.
How strange. How frustrating!!!
kilas_bff... I think we're stuck with our problem my friend. I have just brought a portable charger which i'll carry around incase my phone needs started after these battery screen loops, just to give it that initial boost of power to restart. Got mine from Ebay for £8 GBP which is about $12.50USD.
I just dont like the thought of really needing my phone while its in a battery loop. this portabe charger will be very handy and give me peace of mind.
Any more ideas on this is greatly appreciated. I'll try anything. :fingers-crossed:
As with all things funny have you gone back to a clean install of a stock rom via Odin? Run it stock for a bit and see what happens?
sent using my fat fingers from the robot eating the apple...
Stock is back in as of today. will take your advice and run it for a while and see what happens.
Another thing ive just noticed.... before going back to stock i performed the usual 3 wipes a couple times and even went as far as formatting system.
The picture I have attatched with my reply is what I was confronted with:
could these failures be causing my phone to act as it is?
I have searched about for clues and didnt come up with much. My forum searching skills need sharpened I think.
Thanks for the replies.
think it was just a bad flash initially...
stock rom and pit flash should see you right. leave it on stock for a day or so to see what happens then flash a kernal with cwm and begine the update to JB.
try this

or make a google search for: format_volume rfs format failed

Hello, Thanks for the reply.
Before I go on.....the factory format method I used before was not from recovery mode but from the dial pad *2767*3855# (PLEASE DO NOT TYPE THIS CODE IN UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO HAVE THE PHONE COMPLETELY RESET TO FACTORY)
That's when I got those 4 failures mentioned before.
I tried your suggested solution but not sure it has solved the problem, its basically reset the phone to Factory settings but had alot of unexpected errors and app shutdowns. Before I flashed the stock back on I went into CWM recovery, went to 'mounts and storage' and formatted every option apart from the 'Format Boot' option. All formats successful.
After another flash with 2.3.6.GB stock I tried the dial pad factory format again out of interest to see if I got those same 4 errors and BINGO!! all went without any problems!!!
So that problem is solved.
But my initial issue remains.....After power down it doesn't actually power off completely, just infinite empty battery screen loop until charger is used. :crying:
I'll stick with the suggestions from 'creative0100' and stay with stock for a few days to see what happens then flash a kernel, thinking semaphore kernel and go from there.
:fingers-crossed:
its been nearly 5 days since stock has been on, rooted today and put semaphore kernel on and still have that empty battery bootloop. Won't power up without the charger boost to kick start it back into life.
Does anyone have anymore suggestions please? I've looked quite deeply within the forums and some have had a similar problem but no real solutions as yet.
Just editing my post as it seems that the phone powers down and powers up totally fine when the charge is below 35% - 40%. If its above it'll bootloop showing the empty battery screen.
Ive tried charging to 100% overnight and then resetting batt stats as the charge percentage jumps about alot. seems very confused showing different charge values now and again and even charging when it aint plugged in!!!
Seems something in the phone is not reading the battery correctly.
I really am stuck on this and cant figure out how to recalibrate the battery so it acts normally again.
