I have an AT&T Tilt unlocked and am using it for T-Mobile. The phone works great with the exception of a few things. What do I need to do in order for my Internet and MMS messages to work?
Also does anyone know of any shortcut for text messaging? It seems that you have to go through so many steps to start a text.
Thanks!
settings are different with other carriers
I am not exactly sure what settings would have to be changed to make the internet work but I know I have read it a few times for different ROMS, I just didn't need the advice since mine works. Search the forums and find out what TMobile runs off of. As far as how quick it takes to get to texts, you can change a key to them and there are a ton of programs that offer shortcuts.
for MMS the setttings need to be:
Server name: T-Mobile MMS
Gateway: 216.155.165.50
Port Number: 8080
server address: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
connect via: T-mobile MMS
Wap version: WAP 2.0
for the internet go to connection settings and for the connection name enter
T-mobile Data
access point name: wap.voicestream.com
user name and password leave blank
thanks for the quick response. Where exactly do I go to enter this information?
thanks again

Thank you for the link
it also depends on which internet plan u have? if its the 5.99 tzones plan, its a little more difficult to set up, let me know if u have that one and i'll tell u how.. if ur using the 19.99 plan, simply go to settings-->connections-->connection setup, and set it up for tmobile USA. it'll also set up ur mms at the same time. good luck
omar
oh wait... ur using the tilt rom... thats probably NOT gonna be there... i'd advise u to flash to a different rom.. sorry
Hi,
to speed up your textmessaging you can copy the files tnsms(for SMS) or tnmms (for MMS) for the windowsdirectory in your startupfolder.
These files open a new SMS or MMS an you wont have to do many steps.
Then you have possibility to choose these applications in your buttonapplication, where you can assign applications to buttons.
yes i have th 5.99 plan can you still help?
sms settings on tilt
Sorry mms settings......
Does anyone know where these are ?
my buddy is on tmobile and it took me a good day to figure out the correct settings... I honestly don't understand why tmobiles mms settings are so hard to setup while atts is really easy
hey, just as a warning, i was never able to get the 5.99 settings to work on the original tilt rom, and another user on this forum also never got it to work. the 19.99 internet works fine on the tilt rom. dunno its weird. however when i flashed over to a different rom, it worked no problems.
1- go to connections, and add new connection cellular line, gprs 3G, call it whatever you want
2- access point name: wap.voicestream.com, leave the next one blank and then finish.
3- now click on manage existing connections, click on proxy settings on the bottom right tab
4. make sure both boxes are checked, and enter 216.155.165.50 as the proxy server.
5- click on advanced, and double click on http: and change the port to 8080. leave everything else the same. ok out to the original connections settings screen.
6- click on the advanced tab on the bottom. click on select networks and set both of them to my work network
thats it.. IE should work now no problems, and set any pop3 email accounts to connect to my work network. good luck
omar
i have no idea how to flash to a new rom. Is this something that you think i can do easily and without ruining my phone?
I am running into the same issue too, no MMS, but Internet works good on the 5.99, so i am really wanting the MMS to work.. I hope i dont have to have the $19.99 to have it to work.. that would suck! HELP!!!
Title says it all
+1 to that.
I know how to send mms but not recieve.
For Verizon do this to be able to send mms
Go to Settings -> Wireless Controls -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names -> Android
Modify the following settings:
MMSC: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms?X-VZW-MDN=<your ten-digit phone number>
MMS proxy: leave empty
MMS port: 80
I was thinking i should modify the username to [email protected] and password to vzw like windows mobile but i am afraid to try it because i dont know what the current password is to change it back if it dont work for recieving

i dont have sprint but you could try this instead of what i use. i read sprint is more difficult
http://63.215.195.152/servlets/mms?X-SPRINT-MDN=(10 digit phone number)
if that dont work, here is a thread for mms sprint android discussion
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627388
This is being discussed in the "Vogue CDMA General Developement" section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627388
Sending works, Receiving does not yet. The link in the prior post has instructions on settings to get sending pic messages working.
Well I have a sprint touch and I can receive. Not sure why everyone says they can't, but I followed the thread and the only sprint version I saw was for the thouch pro 3 so I tried that and it sends but it doesn't make it to the person I'm sending to, tried sending to my email and phone.
Touch pro 2#&$%% my bad lol

You can receive? But can't send? Sounds strange. Make sure your entering your phone number in the MMSC field as 1234567890 not <1234567890> thats what I was doing wrong initially. Can you post a link to the tp2 thread you are reffering to...I've seen a few but none mentoined any setting besides the ones already listed in this thread.
It was just on the 3rd Or 4th page I think. : http:// Developement" section: http:// forum.xda-developers.com/ showthread.php?t=627388. Yeah I was always able to receive mms, ever since I started using android back in January. But I put in those settings for touch pro 2 found on that site cause it was sprint qnd I was finally able to send it but it wouldn't make it to the person I was sending to.

When you "receive", is it the actual image or a web link to it? Everyone gets the web link - that just means Sprint thinks your phone isn't MMS-capable on the server side so they text you a link instead. You're not "receiving MMS" unless you get the image straight to your phone.

Me too. I've tried this method before and never had any luck sending or receiving. Its the only thing I miss from WinMo.

You can just edit the T-mobile apn. Keep in mind once you edit it and save it the apn deletes itself. Then all your left with is the telkila apn. Everything will continue to work as it did before. I have sending os pic messages working on VZW using the settings listed below . Receiving does not work.

I believe the MNC needs to be 995 also.

The password in winmo was vzw. I've tried it but it didn't work for me but you can try.
I have no APN's currently listed but all my data and pic message sending works.

It's not strange, sprint doesn't send MMS to the phone through the old fashion way, they send a link to your phone and you follow that to a webpage containing your image
Hey guys I'm curious, before I make the change how many of us can access mms on our vogues?
I know my carrier (Bell Mobility, Canada) blocks them. what about the rest of you?
In android, winmo, or in general?
i can send with verizon but not recieve
I have verizon so I can send but not receive.
In truth I've never really used mms all that much on any phone.
On sprint, so I receive a link but not send.
interesting..
all right no worries then I was going to disable mms, but if it partially works for some of you we'll leave it.

It doesnt work right off the bat for me.It only sends on verizon for me if i change these settings. Recieving still doesnt work regardless. Mabye you can help get it going for us.
Go to Settings -> Wireless Controls -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names -> Android
Modify the following settings:
MMSC: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms?X-VZW-MDN=<your ten-digit phone number>
MMS proxy: leave empty
MMS port: 80
MMS works if you use the right settings.
Unfortunately right settings is carrier-specific. And it's not server-provided.
Something is botching the receive messages though. That needs to be fixed.

A quick search of the 'nets says Bell Mobility does support MMS, they just charge you 50 cents per message.
I've seen:
MMSC Server: http://BellMMSC.bell.ca
User Agent: LGE-LG8700 UP.Browser/6.2.3.2 (GUI) MMP/2.0
User Agent Profile: http://uaprof.bellmobilite.ca/BMC_LGE_LG8700_CX87BL05.rdf
MMG IP: 206.047.201.009
MMG Port: 554
Buffer Length: 7
User Agent String: LGE-LGE8700 QtvPlayer/5.4
As an example of MMS settings.
Verizon allows the sending and receiving of MMS (pic messages) works on Winmo but only sending works on andoid. I believe jnadke mentioned that android does see the incoming message as a MMS but somehow the messaging app does not know how to retrieve it.

k I didn't open this thread for support . Bell blocks mms to vogue esns, which is why I said it doesn't work for me. As I already said I was going to disable the mms portion or the messaging app, but if you guys are able to use it I'll leave it alone.

What would benefit by disabling it?
Ok, so I've read a bunch of threads and know that the MMS issue is ever ongoing and not necessarily solvable. I am a rogers customer and for some reason can't receive MMS. I can send them no problem but I can't seem to receive them.
I have tried this as MMS and Internet settings:
Name: Rogers
APN: rogers-core-appl1.apn
MMSC: http://mms.gprs.rogers.com
MMS Proxy: 10.128.1.69
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 720
And I have tried this as the MMS setting with the above as internet:
MMS
Name: Rogers MMS
APN: media.com
Username: media
Password: mda01
Server: 172.25.0.107
MMSC :http://mms.gprs.rogers.com
MMS Proxy: 10.128.1.69
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 720
APN Type: mms
Going to try and call Rogers now but wondered if anyone else had any useful input.
It's the same on both of my Cappys running different ROMs (Check out the sig).
Thanks!
*EDIT* So I called Rogers and it turns out the top settings here are all you need with them set as internet and MMS. To fix the problem you need to send yourself an MMS and it sets up your phone on the network. Mods can delete this but it might come in handy for someone.
OMGOSH! Thanks a lot man! I spent days trying to fix this!
I'm having the opposite problem - can't send MMS on Rogers. Messages just sit in the queue 'sending', but don't go anywhere.
I'll search around, but if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.
I'm on Serenity RC.1, but it doesn't seem to be a known issue and I can't post in that thread yet
---------- Post added at 04:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:25 PM ----------
Looking at my APNs, I cannot edit or discard the defaults. I did set up a new one as stated by the OP, but still no luck...

Try putting +1 infront of the cellphone number of the people that you're sending the message to. Because I was the same problem but mine was saying "Error in server response" when I was trying to send MMS. But after putting the +1, it was working as it should be.
Nope, still no dice. Seems like it's probably a ROM issue - the author's suggestion was that I edit apns-conf.xml. Will need to look into just how to do that next week
I'll add another solution that worked for me:
Download the GO SMS Pro app and set up your MMS settings manually according to the first part of the OPs post. Works like a charm!

THANK YOU!
I have had this problem for over 8 months now and noone and i repeat NO ONE from rogers could solve it. I wonder who hires those people?! most of them dont even speak english. The best answers i get from them is "sir you have to hard reset your phone or change your simcard (+$30 for activation) or the most help they could ever provide is reset the network.
Thanks!
This definitely did come in handy for me! Worked perfectly!
Thanks for following up with an edit, instead of just abandoning your post like some people have been known to do ;-). Linked to this thread from a bunch of other places w/ the same problem, hopefully it'll bump the SEO up a bit!
Could you tell me where in Dev Tools I need to go to change these settings?
I'm in Connectivity and try to Start MMS, but nothing happens?
mms is not an ongoing problem
i had a PM about this today from someone else..
here just read it. you only need ONE set of apn, any more causes your problem

Hey, I'm a huge fan of yours especialy since I am a ROgers customer and your stock rom ODIN one clicks have saved my life more than once.
I know this is unrelated but I'll trust you on this so I thought I'd ask.
On my Rogers Captivate I recently moved to Android 4.0.4 (using TWICS =http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625619 ) The modem this rom has is UGKG3 which works for data and texting and calls but my MMS is not working.
I got in touch with the dev of the rom, who was very helpful but we had no solution. I was wondering if the problem could be the modem and thus was thinking if for Rogers flashing UGJK4 was a better idea and it would fix my MMS. Please tell me if thats a stupid idea.
Also, I found the .zip for UGJK4 but cannot flash it using CWM recovery - I think it said something like move to Edify script? Am I doing somehing wrong? How else can I flash a modem? Via ODIN?
Bro, I know you couldn't care less for my question but I have like limitless respect for you, so thought I'd ask.

i told the devs of teamhacksung about this MONTHS ago, they dont care to fix it. one of the reasons i dont use their rom.
Ive been trying to use my Captivate with Bell. (Eclair, 2.1-update 1 from Odin)
I found the APN settings on Bell's site and they were forwarded to me by a tech support rep as well. In the "MMSC" box I am instructed to input this:
MMSC: 5778154
<a URL I'm guessing to be a server on the next line>

I'm sorry if it doesnt make a lot of sense but I can't post any links or images. The phone only gives me a one line text box for each value and no enter/return to put an extra line. Ive tried to input one or the other, tried adding spaces, ETC and I can't figure out a way to input this MMSC information. When I asked what the number meant and if it was entirely relevant (I could possibly just use the server?) The girl on the phone just kept saying "we don't support that" over and over again, and kept asking me to call Samsung.
Has anyone else successfully used a Captivate with Bell? If so, what does your APN settings look like? Thank you!
Bell Mobility
APN1: pda2.bell.ca
Leave the Username and Password blank.
APN2: pda2.bell.ca
