I dont think anyones is in the Q&A forum and i need help fast
so im posting here so mods please dont get mad
Well Im almost finished up installing hero
but this one step from this tutorial got me stuck
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=533731
Im at the part right before you partiton your sd card from terminal
I installed the radio then the spl
and when finishing the spl i rebooted but got got stuck at the tmo g1 screen and now here im wondering what do i do next go straight to hero
or install a rom
or reflash the spl
ps im still able to get to recover console etc.. so ithink i lite bricked so yeah please help
i think you may need to just flash a build. ive never bricked mine so maybe im way off...
Well i havent partitioned my sd card so you think i still should but on my computer
or should i install Jacheros rom but with out apps2sd?
ps when doing this process i havent flashed any rom whatsoever just the .nbh you think thats the problem
well have fun with cyanogen roms, or jf's
then when youre pretty familiar with everything go ahead and partition and play with apps2sd and hero
if you get a 'lite brick' you just reflash your rom. you should first play around with other roms first
Using recovery console and the instructions in the 1st post of the jachero thread, partition your sdcard then you can flash the Rom.
so even though i have the radio and spl for hero i can just go to CM's rom or jf's etc with no brick right

yeah you can. i recommend jf until you get comfortable with how to partition your sdcard and if you havent yet you should set up adb on your computer
if you need the link: http://developer.android.com/sdk/1.5_r2/index.html
thanks people i guess ima chill with Jf
but heres one question i flashed cyan recovery using the update.zip method
but when i go to recovery it looks the same as the original recovery did i not do something right
what does Cyans recovery look like
if you are still able to get to recover console you are not bricked just flash a other rom
So do i need to reflash to jf recovery
or can i use cyan's
I had that problem too, i dont remember how i fixed it but i just went ahead and re-flashed the recovery with the terminal method
adb is a great tool for this, you should really set it up
with it you can mount the sd while in recovery, so you can add update.zip's without rebooting over and over and you can push files to the sd, like recovery.img's
plus you can get a shell with adb, so you wont have to worry about going to the console and typing commands in the phones keyboard and you can do it straight from you computer
Yeah i have lite brick so
im just gonna flash to JF 1.5 CRB43
With Cyanogens recovery
oh and b4 i flash to jf should i just wipe
yo im all good now i guess ima apps2sd with jf so i see how it all goes down
i rooted my G1 last night (i think i suceffuly rooted it)
and i was trying to flash the JACHEROSki-v2.1 ROM to my G1, i used the old method put the recovery.img and the JACHEROSki-v2.1 (changed to "update"),then turn off phone, turn it back on with home+power, alt+s flashing in progress, here are the messages i got when installing the rom:
Installing from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
installing update...
Deleting files...
Deleting files...
Formatting System:...
Copying files...
Then the progress bar stay still not moving forward....and after a while it goes...
E:Can't chown/mod /system/xbin
(No such file or directory)
E:failure at line 80:
set_perm_recursive 0 2000 0755 0 6755 SYSTEM:xbin
Intallation aborted.
Press Home+back ro reboot
then after i reboot, the G1 logo stays on forever, i tried to reboot, and tried to flash again (at least 4 times), but same results. how can i fix this ? did i delete my own rom while flashing the new rom ? thats why i have no roms in my phone, so it wont load up? what can i do now ? i mean, i cant do anything without turning on the phone
Hero roms require the DangerSPL noted in the first post of the rom you are trying to install. I don't recommend flashing a hero rom right after rooting your phone. Considering you still need to learn about apps2sd and most important swap partitions. Download cyan 4.0.4 and start with that before you try a hero rom.
Hold home+pwr to boot into recovery to flash roms.
Also you don't need to put the recovery.img on your sd anymore, once you have flashed recovery you dont need to do it again cuz it stays on your phones internal memory. When flashing any rom you just put the .zip on your sd and rename it to update, thats it.
so you mean cyan rom is best for me right ? and how am i gonna do that when i cant boot my phone ? i dont have a card reader here so a little frustrating tho
and can you give me a link for that rom ? too many roms out there dont know which one is best for my G1, i have a 1G memory card only btw
before we go any further. Did you install cyan's recovery 1.4?
also turn the phone off, hold the camera button and power button. Give us the info shown on the screen.
i dont have cyan revovery 1.4 i only have the recovery.img
and what does it say when you hold camera and power to turn the phone on?
my friend just brought me his card reader and i put the JFv1.51_CRB43-ADP update to the sd, and flash it, now my phone works, with 1.5 firmware....
a question...if i want to install the cyan rom, i just do the same with the updates right ? put it in sd, rename to update, turn off phone, home+power, then install right ?
Seems like you got this one fingerlickin. See we can be helpful.

Correct, but if you install the new recovery you can flash any .zip without renaming. Also if you get stuck in the future and don't access to a card reader you can mount your card in adb and do everything that way.
sorry fingerlickin had to jump in.
now im getting confused...what is adb ?
and after i get this update, my internal memory is 47mb....whats alot less than what i got before...is this normal ?

adb will get your ass out of trouble when your phone acts up.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519523
There are some good guides to use adb in there. But I ain't tryna get you confused so early, maybe that should be one of the next things you should learn. I'll stop there so you don't get confused yet, just something to learn for the future.
And did you have your card partitioned before flashing the rom? I'm being lazy and not looking at your past posts right now.
i havent yet partitioned my sdcard...i came to this forum last night, spent hours to read and learn about rooting, updating, and maybe partition....
so you think my jf update can get the app install to sdcard ? or do i have to use other roms ?

If I were you I would honestly switch from jf to a different rom. JF is to boring and outdated, plus he ain't working on roms no more so you won't have any support. I would go to one of cyanogens roms. Just partition your sd card then flash a new rom. There are multiple ways to partition your card, I use ubuntu (tut in sig) but there are other ways to do it thru the phone.
ok....i will try to find a good rom for my phone...thanks for the help there...really appreciate it
NP supreme, I had to step away from my desk for a bit but I'm back now.
cyan's recovery 1.4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3915123
cyan's stable ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537204
Do the recovery first. when you get this recovery installed you don't have to rename zip files to update.zip anymore. Then flash the ROM, you will not regret using cyan's ROMs.
After this is done and everything is running normal you can do some research on partitioning the sdcard. This isn't required so don't do this until everything else is normal.
which one is better ? staple rom or 1.4 ?

1.4 is the recovery
stable rom is the actuall rom
So do both. Just do recovery first. It's not necessary to do it first but ehh
Not trying to be dumb but i been using JF 1.5 for like 6 month (completely forgot about xda and android stuff for about 4 month since i busy with school).
So now i got JF 1.5 and i want the new Cyanogen V 4.2.3.1 since i did read alot and seem like the best one for now.
And so i did try to install......for about 4 HOURS.
I tried :
- JF 1.5 -> Cyanogen V 4.2.3.1 = Stuck at the boot screen
- JF 1.5 -> cm-recovery-1.4.img -> signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip -> Cyanogen V 4.2.3.1 = After boot screen (when it suppose to come on the welcome screen) it just turn blank...the screen is one but completely blank.....
- I WIPE again -> HTC ADP 1.6 DRC83 -> Cyanogen V 4.2.3.1 = Samething, blank page.
So what did i do wrong? I did do the install of the recovery Img 1.4 and the ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip.
I did wipe everytime i install something.
Sorry for the bothering and noob asking for help but i do need help....i tried my best and sitted here for 4 hours already
And talking about those Guide on WIKI, i tried to follow all of them and still.......only thing i didnt try is reflash, unroot, root again and do the install of new ROM
Is your SD card partitioned correctly?
You need:
FAT32
EXT 2/3/4
Linux-swap
Do you have those three partitions?
If so, did you wipe your EXT partition?

i have the Class 6 8GB though, what shud i do?
Quick update.
I just follow the Stock to Cyanogen Post to upgrade.
I reflash the whole phone, root then Cyanogen again with format 3 Partition of Fat32 (7000MB), ext2 (700MB) and Linux-swap (150MB) and it still doesnt work, stuck at boot screen this time.....i really really dont know what to do now, i tried everything
alright buddy, you don't need to have any ext or linux swap partitions to run cyanogenmod
just make sure you have his recovery image, 1.4, or amon ra's recovery flashed on your phone
now you might as well just flash the haykuro "death/danger" spl to repartition your phone's internal memory. flash the radio before the spl
now go into recovery and wipe data/cache,
follow cyanogen's directions on how to upgrade
flash the adp 1.6 htc recovery image file from the htc site, DO NOT REBOOT
immediately flash the latest cyanogenmod update on top of that, reboot,
it'll give you some stuff about writing the radio, just let it do it's thing
now you're done, boot up
and give it some time.
first boot takes a little bit more
enter your credentials into your phone, let it sync
then reboot again, it lets everything soup together

I just did the exactly same thing u said and it get past the Boot G1 Screen, then pas the Cyanogen Screen then it get stuck at a blank screen again, what wrong with that?
Since you're able to get to the "Cyanogen" screen -- do you have adb installed on your computer? A logcat of what's going on would be useful.
Alternatively; try flashing the "illegal" version of the newest Cyanogen ROM -- the "single flash" update. However, do it a little differently than you'd otherwise expect.
With the old JF 1.5, install Cyanogen Updater from the Market. Download any update -- doesn't matter what; you won't be flashing it.
Download the single-flash version of Cyanogen's actual ROM from the developer forum; and then dump it into the same folder that the CM Updater app dumped to. From within the contextual menu of the CM Updater app, choose "existing update" -- and then flash the single-update version.
//SOMETIMES//, flashing a ROM via the CM Updater will produce different results than flashing it "manually". I have no explanation for why this is, but I /have/ seen it happen.
Hi there,
I too am running JFV1.51 and wish to change to Cyanogen 4.2.15.1.
I have the iamage from HTC but nothing changes when I flash it and attempt to immediately flash Cyanogen over it?
Did you have any luck in resolving this issue/
Many thanks!
You guys that are having issues need to use ddms or adb shell logcat to see whats going on.
Going from Cupcake to Donut is going to change a lot in your phone and will take several minutes to complete. Most of which is in Framework. That Android boot animation that pops up is in there so thus it may seem like it's stuck at the G1 logo. Also you should consider flashing your phone to the newest radio (2.22.19.26I or 2.22.23.02).
ok this is what you really do lol no if ands or butts to this method.
goto www*androidhustler*blogspot*com and scroll down and search for ( 2010 how to get latest cyanogen mod ) download all apropiate files and begin steps.
let me know how easy these steps are and email me with any questions at: b6gsix#gmail*com

E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
Hi,
Firstly, many thanks!
However, after following this comprehensive and generally straight forward guide I still can't flash the new CM!
I followed all the steps exactly, downgrading to RC7 (I'm in the UK) & re-rooting the phone.
When I reach the stage of flashing Android 1.6 Base Image, the CM ROM & the radio it states:
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
and aborts!!!
I also do not have the option of alt+a only alt+s which is apply sdcard:update.zip
Where am I going wrong? And what should I do?
Thanks,
Joe

If you don't have ALT+A available, you have a recovery loaded other than what the guide says/thinks you should have. Are you using the recovery it suggests? Be it Amon Ra, Clockwork, etc.
Hi,
I was initially running Jesus Freak cupcake 1.5. Now the phone is currently at RC7 and rooted using telnet after starting the whole process again.
I am currently following the guide on the cyanogenmod wiki. I am using the recovery image suggested: CM recovery 1.4 img.
However, when I get to the stage for Flash Android1.6 & CyanogenMod latest I get stuck and states E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip.
All other guides seem to be specific to the US, for example androidhustler. I don't where to go next!
Please help!
Ok, I'm guessing I misunderstood something. I'm a "noob" so bear with me...
here's what I did.
I was running cm v 4.2.9.1 and decided to try and upgrade to the latest version. I wiped and reflashed and got 4.2.14.1 running, but I felt it was slow (the reason I didnt use any other new version), so I came here looking to see any new roms.
I decided KiNgxKxlicK AOSP 2.1 rom looked cool, so I downloaded it and flashed it (yes I wiped first). I'm guessing this is where it went wrong. The rom took 30 mins to finally boot to home (longest ever) but the sweet nexus screen made it easier to bear. I DID NOT do anything with an spl or any radio (that part still kinda confuses me to be honest). I'm guessing this is why I am in the predicament that I am.
The KiNgxKxlicK AOSP 2.1 rom loads fine, but was VERY slow. I decided I'd just go back to cm v 4.2.9.1. I went to wipe and reflash, but the G1 screen never disappeared. I let it load for about 30 minutes and decided that was a bit ridiculous before removing the battery (mind you, it never got past the T Mobile G1 screen). I was, however, able to reflash KiNgxKxlicK AOSP 2.1 rom and run it. This is all I am able to do. When trying to reflash cyonagen it just hangs on the G1 screen.
I'm a noob so I don't know what went wrong or what I missed.
Can someone PLEASE help me out here and tell me what I need to do to fix this. Thanks
Additional Notes:
Can't get to settings running KiNgxKxlicK AOSP 2.1 AT ALL, and a lot of programs Force Close on the rom.
Thanks for any help/input you guys can provide.
Thanks
Do you have Amon Ra recovery?
No I do not believe so, as I am not exactly sure what that is?
UPDATE: I should also note I checked my SPL and Radio, both were very old (as I realized I followed an OLD guide when I rooted my phone)
I upgraded to the latest radio and SPL and still have the same problem...except King's rom doesn't force close when I go to "settings".....thats about the only difference (still slow/laggy, lots of programs still FC)
When you boot into recovery (holding home+power) it should tell you what recovery image you are using. (i.e. mine says v1.5.2 down at the bottom of the screen) I ran into a similar issue when I attempted to jump between roms without taking all the appropriate steps; all I did was reformat my sd card, wipe the phone, and reflashed my rom and it worked great after that.
I tried reformatting my sd card, even re-partitioned it and I'm still having the same problems:
CM wont get past g1 screen after flash, King's rom still pretty slow....
What do you gys recommend I do next? This is getting really frustrating
1st: Check if youre Formatting is correct
2nd: Wipe EVERYTHING
3rd: Re-Format
4th: Try downloading the ROM again. It could be an issue with the ROM's
5th: Check you have proper radio and SPL (1.33.2005 and 26I)
6th: Pray
Try them all hope one of them works for you dude.
why is it that that 99% of newbs are on cyanogen
@Macrophage001
1. how do I CHECK my formatting to see if its correct?
2. Doesn't formatting do this automatically? I also "wiped" in recovery...
4. Not the roms, I have multiple CM roms, one of which I've had for some time with no problems and have re-flashed over and over
5. As stated above, I did not have the latest at first, i did upgrade to the latest radio and hakyuro(sp) spl to no avail.
@zachattack052
We've all been told it's THE BEST, much before even making the decision to root. I honestly thought CM was the only rom available, that's how much he's praised around here and other forums.....it's just what everyone tells us.
Here's what i suggest you do:
1> Download Amon_RA's recovery from here
here is a link to his thread
2> Transfer the file you just downloaded to the root of your sd
use this code to mount your sdcard from recovery console itself if needed
Code:
echo /dev/block/mmcblk0 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
3>Disconnect usb and reboot to recovery (keep home pressed while powering on) or just type
reboot recovery if you are already in recovery console
4> Flash Amon's recovery:
Code:
#mount -a
#flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-dream-v1.5.2.img
when complete, reboot to recovery again
5>Partion your sd using amon's recovery (All data on SD will be lost so backup if needed)
[Alt+P] then [Alt+0] or scroll down using the trackball or the volume keys
follow the prompts, set your swap-size to 96 MB (use the vol keys) and 512 MB ext2. when done use the back button to go back and reboot
The above step will give you the partitions required to run any rom. Please make sure you meet the radio and SPL requirements before flashing a rom.
6>Transfer the latest CyanogenMod rom to your SD and flash it.
I would suggest that you try bbuchacher's SuperD rom (it requires Haykuro's Danger SPL)
make sure you flash the radio first and then the SPL if you dont already have it
P.S. When anyone says full wipe, they mean doing a factory reset, wiping your ext partition and wiping the dalvik-cache. These are the first 3 options in Amon_RA's recovery's wipe menu
what i would do....
make sure you flash the HTC recovery files first before you flash the CM rom
go for the defanged version of HTC
so...(once u have amon ra's latest recovery installed)
wipe everything
flash htc / defanged (DO NOT REBOOT!!!)
flash cm latest rom
ALLOW IT TO LOAD FULLY
reboot (personal preference)
create a nandroid backup for future **** ups
enjoy ur rom!!

Hey guys
I have a t mobile G1 rooted with Danger SPL and (Just Recently Flashed) Amon Ra 1.7.0 Recovery image.
All my troubles started after I saw that Super Froyo had a new bulid of 4.4, so I wiped my system, cache, sd-card, data (But not my boot) with my old Clockwork Mod 2.5.2. Everything went fine and dandy and the new bulid ran nicely, but as I reread over the directions for Super Froyo 4.4 i found that partitioning your SD card would increase speeds on this particular build. So I flashed Amon-Ra's recovery and then I partitioned my SD card to 512MB EXT3 / LinuxSWAP 64MB... After this I encountered alot of FC's.... So i flashed back over to CM6 Stable after partitioning again and now... Im stuck in countless bootloops.
Ive only had a somewhat-firm grasp on rom's so far, but i think my G1 is not technically bricked if i can access the recovery image full menu.
I need help ASAP.
Thanks.

Do you have adb and fastboot working? You probably need to wipe a little extra. If you have fastboot working-
Code:
fastboot erase system -w
Then in AmonRA wipe everything and reinstall your rom of choice. I would recomend flashing Chromersmiths 4.5. It is complete with gapps so it is harder to screw up.

Actually... I feel kind of stupid right now, im a total noob when it comes to adb/flashbooting... if i have amon's recovery screen fully working, isnt there a way to restore it?
Basically i need an explanation of what ADB/Flashbooting is... Im sorry!!
Also a walk through would be helpful.
If you did one... you would be my hero
Quick Update: I just went on ahead and Flashed CM6 Stable and Gapps
It seems that im stuck in the 2nd boot animation, It just keeps repeating...
If we get past it then I have a working G1.

The adb fastboot instructions at the top of the QA page are really good. It still refers to 1.5.3 but the link to the SDK is still good and the instructions are thorough. It is not a quick process but not hard and you will use adb and fastboot for the rest of your time with android. You will learn lots. I really can't make it any better than that post does it. If you spend an hour and get all that working, you'll be good to go.
Have fun.
Guess What!
I just wiped data using the Amon Ra
Flashed CM6
Gapps.
I have a working G1
Thanks For Your Help Anyway, I would rep you if I could!!!
