I've created a Spotify Remote for Android devices.
As of now it requires Linux on your computer (as the server component is built with libspotify from Spotify). Going forward i'll look into implementing the server component with another library... would be nice to support Windows users too.
The application(s) can be downloaded from http://h3x.se where you'll also find installation notes.
Observe - it does not remote control the Official Spotify client but rather a server component, 'servify'. This makes the Remote 'roidify' alot more flexible.

Consider this a Beta release.
There's now a server version in Java.
This means it now works under Windows, Linux and (though i've not tested it) Mac OSX.
If you want to try it out, download the client (ReSpot) from google market, and get the server from h3x.se
Don´t work on 2.1??

Sometimes the spotify servers are not up to par, could you try the 'search function' in ReSpot and tell me if that works for you?
If that works - then probably you can just wait a couple of hours and restart Servify and hopefully the playlist servers will be feeling better.
If it doesnt work, let me know if you use Servify/C# or Servify/J and we can take it from there!

I know that the answer has been given! AMEN
use tcpmp
I did search, and always do.
Are you saying that the Streaming Medai app that comes in the ROMs adoes not work?
I'd think the chefs would not include it if it did not?
I'd like to use that app if it works and not install something new.
Why ask for help if you won't take the answer. The guys that make these roms don't test that sort of thing.
I have tried rtsp://<ip address> & http://<ip address>

should I assume that you're also using the port after the ip address and that the port is open in your router?
I'm happy to have an answer but you never said the built-in Streaming Media player did not work - which I'd prefer to use if it does since it is already in the ROMs.
A google search leads to several forums which say the HTC Streaming Media player does. I was hoping for people that have used it to post some info on it.
The ONLY thread I could find on this site discussing it is very old, and for a different phone, but says the Streaming Media app does work...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341755&highlight=streaming+media
If you have a link to a recent discussion on this please post.
no matter what URL I try, with/out a port #, the app says "Invalid URL"
thank you for your help
one of the posts I read said they used the windows media player to view the cam.. thats installed on it.
GRemote Pro goes to Android Market. This is first public BETA release so you can find some bugs, but we will fix it if you tell as. It has some extra futures comparing to Windows mobile client. You can download GRemote Pro server directly form your Android phone to SD card (recommended), and toggle WiFi state - useful if you forgot about this before you open GRemote Pro. There are two known problems:
Enter key on default software keyboard doesn't work (you can use trackball as alternative)
This version hasn't been tested with G1 and hardware keyboard so please tell us if you have some problems with this. Have a nice testing and please report any problems found.
Video about Joystick feature.

Best regards,
Marcin.
There is a really good app already in the market for free and does really good job GMote.
and they want to charge for this when there is already an amzing app like it already on the market. GMote is amazing, i really like the the touchpad feature. who needs a keyboard and a mouse anymore these days lol
GMote is really good program but don't have joystick extension and you can't change configuration. In GRemote Pro you can add profiles for your favourite applications, and switch them directly from phone. Read docs there is more about configuration and GRemote features.
Cheers,
Marcin.
Firefox Mobile (Fennec) beta for the HTC Hero and other ARMv6 based devices has been released - not sure how long ago, but I found it in a Mozilla Wiki.
Graphics aren't optimized for low-res screens. It's rather buggy and sluggish to use at first, speeds up after a bit but still isn't amazing. It's getting there though!
The file is 12mb and takes years to install, but the link and barcode is below. Looks okay so far ! Looking forward to the finished build.

Firefox mobile (4.0)
Hi,
Anyone succeeded in running Firefox on a HTC Hero (Elelinux-7.0.0-RC4-Hero-v1.7.1)?
I'm only able to install FF by downloading the apk to sd and install it from there, but it won't start. According to the system requirements, Firefox is not compatible with the Hero.
Kind regards,
Bas.
This is an article I've been meaning to write for a little while now, since audio on the Ubuntu part of the Atrix is a bit tricky.
The basic idea is this: when in lapdock mode, it would be nice to have a music player that's designed for that form factor. As such, a decent starting point is the default GNOME music management program for Ubuntu 9.04: Rhythmbox.

However, after installing Rhythmbox, three plugin errors pop up. Two of them don't matter much to me (the jamendo and the Magnatune Store ones) and can be disabled, but cover art should work. A bit of Google footwork reveals that installing python-gst0.10 fixes that (and the stores too).
Unfortunately, an attempt to then play a FLAC causes... playback with no sound. Based on a previous post, pulseaudio appears to serve as the audio backbone. Rhythmbox, on the other hand, uses GStreamer, so that connection might not be working properly.
Another Google search ends up bringing up a wiki page that suggests that gnome-media needs to be installed so that we can run gstreamer-properties.
But, the pulseaudio plugin supposedly isn't installed. So, gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio needs to be installed as well.
And, then, finally! It's possible to play music via Rhythmbox! This should also allow any other GStreamer-based programs to output sound as well.
P.S. Yes, I like the occasionally bad joke, as the title implies.
who listens to flac media files anyways
awesome, thanks!
and as you suspected it does fix sound in other apps, like pidgin.
hope you don't mind i added it to my list.
Hi,
I developed a brand new app called "Zero to Hero".
The app let's you explore your yet unplayed music, those of your songs that you haven't yet ever played on your phone.
The key point: It's developed entirely using TouchDevelop, Microsoft's on device programming environment. Means it is developed right on Windows Phone itself.

Love this app, Best to discover the forgotten songs. We have it reviewed at wpxbox.com and also have couple of suggestions.
First is wrapping up of names of song which becomes messy when its too long. Second, once I play a song, does it get off the list ? I don't see that happening until I refresh

Thank you very much for the review,
regarding the issues, I'll look into them for the next update though I'm not sure whether it's exactly possible to fix all of them due to limitations of the TouchDevelop programing enviroment.
