long story short
i formatted 4gb card using recovery all fine
i updated ext2 to ext3 and the battery fell out
sd card not working
i can only format the card via recovery mount usb and disk management
it says unallocated so i format simple partiton select fat32 it formats fine
i can access it and add a file to it
then...
i reboot phone and sd card needs formatting again even booting back to recovery go to disk management it says unallocated again
i've used many tools sd formatters 'DISKPART' 'testdisk-6.11.3.win'
PTEDIT32
i have an image of what the sd card says
any ideas
Have you tried partitioning directly from recovery via parted?
Code:
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
yes ive tried that and i get bad superblocks

Okay so I'm pretty sure my SD card got fried (or damaged) last night.
The notification of "Damaged SD card" kept on showing up.
I tried running the repair file systems from CM recovery 1.4, all variations of rebooting, powering down, removing the SD card and all that to help 'fix' my problem.
I also went into settings to see if i have the option to mount and format the SD, but shows unavailable. Also SD secondary is unavailable as well.
So for sure my SD card is fried..... i think lol.
The thing that I am confused about is that I have apps2sd and try to use the apps that I know are installed on my SD card, I'm still able to access and use them, even though my SD card is damaged. I tried rebooting without the SD card inserted and I get FC's galore.
So does that mean my FAT32 partition is damaged and not my EXT partition?
How do I go about to remedy this?
Do I go ahead and click the on the notification to format my SD card?
Then it'll format my FAT32 partition and not my EXT partition?
Or is that totally wrong?
Confused and in need of some guidance. Thanks.

Spot on
Format your card. If you use Linux, you can back up your apps, but you'll have to format and then re-install the EXT2 partition.
Basically, the FAT32 partition got corrupted. Anytime you actually see anything about the SD card on the phone itself, it's always the FAT32 partition.
hey there i had that same problem all i did was resize my fat32 partition
i used GNU parted so go to console and type
Code:
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
now type
Code:
print
this displays the sd cards size in MB write down the max memory
now type
Code:
resize
it will ask what partition number type 1 it will the ask for a start size just type 0 if it errors saying couldnt write 0 but can write 8192B just say yes and for the end size type 1MB less than your max
Example for my 8gig card
Code:
resize
1
8192B
7965 - change to 7964
this will bring up a error saying the filesystem is damaged do you want to fix say yes
then type
Code:
quit
then
Code:
upgrade_fs
and that should do it
forgot to add your going to have to delete your ext partition FIRST! for that type
Code:
rm 2
Hello.
So I was planning on completely wiping my phone and updating to a whole new rom.
I resized my ext3 and linux-swap partitions using parted in recovery.
Then I was planning on wiping my ext3 clean, so I used the following:
mount -o rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Click to collapse
I thought that this would simply clear the partition, but it did some crazy stuff deleting the partition I think.
This rendered my SD Card pretty much dead. I could no longer access parted through recovery, unless I typed "parted /dev/block/mmcblk0", but it wouldn't load normally, saying "No device found"
Anyways, I figured I'd just reformat the SD Card by removing it and using a micro sd to SD USB adapter and formatting, but the card does not show up on my computer, not even on Paragon Partition Manager... weird
Did I kill my 8gb micro sd? Thanks for any help you can offer!
I lost my sd card data flashing a rom. Could not mount it even thru recovery. Got a card reader, but it won't format it.
Using Mini Partition Tool to troubleshoot. I am not at a point where it shows three partitions. The main 16gb unallocated, logical. The ext3 unformatted 500mb, primary (think I did that by mistake when trying to recover partition). And a 32mb unallocated, logical. All zero used memory.
I need to get back to one partition allocated, primary. Then I can get sd data back on it and reformat thru recovery.
Again using Mini Partition Wizard
Any help please!
OK,
I got it repartitioned as primary and formatted, bu sd card from pc now.
Hope phone recognizes it.
Will update, if I need further help.
Ken
If you want a good program to format your sd card, try SD Formatter.
Download and install that, plug in your sdcard into your sd card reader and format it.
Choose Full Erase On (if possible) and Resize On. It will format your sdcard to factory default and that means even the ext partition will be gone too.
Well, all transferred. Still won't mount. Says can't mount either of the dev/blocks mmcb1k0p1 and mmcb1k0.
Staus bar says sd card damaged.
?????
musashiken,
Thanks, typing while you posted. Based on my last post should I still do that?
Ken
Yeah I think you should try to reformat again with the program I suggested, as that will full format your sd card.
Once done, put your sd card back to the phone and create ext partition in recovery.
At work now but will be working on it.
Thanks
Ken
musashiken,
Thanks, appreciate all your help
That program worked, and I am back up and running
Ken
Glad it worked for you. My sd card kept giving me problems and I have to use this every few rom flashes.
I have a similar problem. I installed a new 32 gb SDHC card in a CDMA Hero running Cryogenmod. All was working well for about 10 days, then I got an error that no SD card was found. I had the original card and tried to get to the Clockwork recovery, no luck. Finally, through Rom manager, (flash alternate recovery to Ramon, then back to Clockwork, I was able to boot into recovery.
I still cannot format the new SDHC card, through Recovery, Windows 7, or the Panasonic program listed above. The Windows format option sees the card as a FAT 121mb card, so does the above program. Is this new card toast? It came with a lifetime warranty from Kingston, but I am mad that it did not make 2 weeks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Craig
If sdformatter did not work it may be bad.
I always had good luck with it.
Did you have all options set per instructions?
Hi
I partition my SD card in nAa-11 recovery (256 SWAP and 768 EXT, 7 GB free), and now I can't restore it to his original condition - 8GB. Windows didn't see 8GB, just 7GB and I can format it, but it always shows 7GB as the total available space.
Any ideas, guys? I have to remount dis partitions in terminal emulator, or what?
You need to use a Partition Tool that supports Linux partitions, like GParted.
EDIT: A more easy way is repartitioning your SD from Recovery, setting SWAP and EXT to 0.
Use SDFormatter V3.1 and make sure you select format size adjustment ON option. A quick format should be ok.

use your android fone to format sd card.. in settings go to sd card and phone storage settings then unmount your sd card and then format it.. after formatting mount it back and now your partiotion was gone you can now see your 8 gb storage

try to mount your sdcard to your computer using a card reader, then re-format with GParted (if you're using Linux) or Mini Tool Partition Wizard (if you're using Windows)
Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but:
I partitioned my memory card into 2 so I could install apps to sd card using Link2sd. The first partition where all the data was being saved got corrupted and had to be formated. In the process I have lost all the data that came on it originally. I have tried using the Android File Recovery, it does recovers all the files, but the directory structure is lost.
Is there any way I could get the data back that was there originally?
The partitions on card are in Fat32 format.
everytime i try and create a ext2/3/4 partition on my sd card the rom will then refuse to mount the sd card it says mounting sd card then sd card is safe to remove
it is partitioned correctly with primary as fat 32 6gb and a second logical partition of 512mb running ext2/3/4 all ofthem will not allow the rom to mount the sd card anyideas?
ok found the issuen i think it is detecting the ext3 partition as the main one and trys to loads this up first bu can as its ext not a fat32

Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117100 . You can partition your card directly from within the program. Your card will be wiped, so backup your data. Also, better to have your antivirus program disabled.
Or you can install the nobodyAtall CWM 3.2.0.0r3 or the nobodyAtall CWM 3.2.0.0r4 from that program as well, there's an option in the Advanced menu for partitioning.
CWM 4.0.1.5 and XRecovery don't have options for partitioning.

well finally got the dam x8toolbox to detect my phone and partiton the sd card ait was working fine till i took sd card out to add files back on to it and back to square one the phone wont mount the sd card as it detect the sd-ext partition first and tried and fails to mount that as storage
Without digging deeper into it, maybe you could just not take the card out and just use the USB to transfer the files.
What OS are you running on your computer?
Maybe u are using Linux swap that's why it is unmounting the SD card. & both partitions must be primary (not logical)(ext2/3/4)
Sent from my W8 using xda app-developers app
Make the ext partition as PRIMARY, not as LOGICAL partition (as suggested in the previous post) This the problem source. (The logical partitions have different partition numbers)
