I've tried searching the forums and couldn't find anything, but on all other versions of android i've had my DCIM and Media folder on my sd card. Thats where my resources were, like my extra ringtones and pics. On Manup's last update (eclair v1.5 w\camera) my pics and ringtones from my DCIM and Media folder aren't available for use in my phone. Can anyone tell me if i'm doing something wrong or if this is a Eclair issue at the moment. I haven't heard of it being an eclair issue, but I figured maybe with the new framework, maybe you had to put it somewhere else on the SD card. Thanks in advance!
His rom is 2.1 and not 2.0.1, your sd might be the prob if you said you cant access or maybe you should try re-flashing the rom again to see if the issue continues. I used the came and have the camera folder on my sd.
Thanks for a quick reply Ace! I've reflashed twice already and when I take pics with the cam they show up in the DCIM but all my pics taken from the past and ones saved that have been sent to me wont show up in the gallery. The only ones that do are the ones i freshly take. I can actually hook my phone up to my Pc and see the newly taken pics next to the other ones but if i go to gallery it only shows the ones just taken. I tried going back to the latest cyanogen and they show up just fine along with the ones i just took.

Hey Guys,
I got a problem with the stock gallery application since I went to FRF50 (now FRF72).
It takes a lot of time (sometimes 20 seconds and longer) until I see the thumbnails of my recently shoot Photos.
This even appears if there is only one picture in my folder(!). Disabling the picasa sync brings no improvement.
Switching directly from the cam application into the gallery takes ages, too. No matter if the images are local on SD or Picasa.
I already tried to delete the cache, disabled picasa sync, erased the thumbnail file - no change.
The filesize for one Photo is about 800kb, so I don't think it depends on the size. My SD-Card is class 6 and my Nexus is totaly stock.
Anyone who can help me?
When you say you deleted the cache, do you mean you deleted the entire "Android" folder on your SD?

I just deleted the stuff from the .thumbnails folder in DCIM. Thought this would help but it did not.
Thanks for your reply

If you delete the thumbnails, it will take longer because it has to rescan your pictures and CREATE thumbnails!
LOL... your n1 is not totally stock! (but I know what you are tryin to say)...
Same thing...slow as heck.

Right, I thought the re-creating process could solve the problem
on WIFI or 3G the gallery is a little bit faster, but with gprs or when I have no network coverage the process is slow as hell.
I really don't know why the local stored images are involved in this process
Hi everyone. I have a strange gallery problem on my Galaxy S. This is different than the old gallery corrupt database because i tried that method and doesn't work (deleting the cache, dbata). Gallery photos start missing. So if i download some photos from Zedge , Redwall they are shown in gallery but after a time, for example if i restart the phone they are missing. Also the images taken with camera dissapear on restart. This problem happends also on froyo or gingerbread roms, fs or ext 4, on different gallery versions. In a moment it appears and i cannot resolve this. I suppose it's a media scanner problem but what to delete, what to fix because i tried all the methods (except sd card format) and it doesn't work . Anyone has this problem ? Any ideea about other things that i can do ?
how many pics do you have ??
my GF has this problem with her spica, she has 1000's of pictures, thats why it takes so long to load them. perhaps this is the same for you ?

Certainly not 1000 lets say about 300 in different locations (camera, zedge, redwall, icons folder) right now i try to remove them and make a test to see if it works. Thanks.
EDITED: It seems that the problem is just on the internal sdcard, if i move all the photos to the external card they appear in gallery.
I have a small issue. My gallery in my phone sometimes decides to multiply pictures.
I have around 300 pictures but then some days it shows at least 1600 pics and many multiples. A day later its back to normal.
Cognition 4.3 overstock rom.
Anyone have a clue on what's wrong?

Is there a reboot before it goes back to normal? It sounds almost like your gallery is picking up some photos being backed up to another location on your phone.
Install sgs tools on your phone
Go to scripts > clear thumb.db, restart phone before opening gallery again.
Walla
I had the same problem a while back. THe way I did it was go to:
(close gallery first)
settings
applications
manage applications
running
select: Media storage
and clear data.
Thanks guys, I did it. I havent had the issue yet but hopefully I wont.
That issue was kicking my butt. lol.
At least now I know. I wish there was a program that cleaned all the cache's out of all the programs.

I took my pics off of my external SD and never had this problem again.
Folks,
Need help urgently
I am having issues with accessing pictures in my DCIM folder. They show up fine on the phone in the gallery and the path location of the pictures shows that they are the DCIM--> Camera folder, but while plugging the phone through USB, I can't see any of the pictures in the folder..If I take a current picture I'll be able to see that, but all my old pictures I'm unable to see them, even though they appear fine in the phone through gallery..
I've tried installing different ROM's to see if there was an issue with the ROM, but I don't think that's the case.
Could someone please help

1. Search in the Paranoid thread if en error like this happened before
2. Safe the pics and other import files on the ext sd card and from sd card safe them to a PC
3. Check if you have the same problem with your ext sd card
4. After the backup format your internal card and try again
5. Install a stock Rom and try
Good luck

Ive had that problem before;
They do get saved in dcim.
However mtp is the buggy protocol that doesnt rescan the folder properly.
Switching to ums (mass storage) fixes this.
Search the paranoid thread for the apk that allows you to switch to ums.
Goodluck.

I dont think that one works any longer;
I think it was galactus that came up with a post with a link to an apk that switches to ums perfectly.
As said before search the pa3 thread in android dev.

Dear All,
I know that this thread is old, however the issue is still relevant today for those with older phones and I wanted to share my solution for those that need help.
I had the same issue on my partner's phone where the pictures were seen when looking through the Android phone's file manager but when connecting to a PC, the files were not seen when looking through either MS File Explorer or another file manager (Directory Opus). This meant that we could not copy the pictures from the phone to the PC by plugging the phone into the PC using a USB cable (including ensuring that the mode of connecting was for file transfer or MTP as opposed to 'charging only').
I found this website and Anthropostar's notification that the code could be buggy which led me to try other solutions,.
The solution found that worked was using the software called MyPhoneExplorer (which I have used before for synchronizing contacts). I appreciate that there were issues on the past with this software and the way the person generated income, however all adware is now removed from the software and I recommend trying the software and if you find it useful then donate out of politeness as the developer has request financial help politely. Using the software I was able to connect to the phone in question, locate the files and then my partner has transferred nearly all the files over to the PC. There is an issue with 4 files, which I need to look at today, but the bulk of the 9GB pictures was moved.
I hope that this solution helps others as my partner's phone was not Samsung but another make called One+.
Best of luck.
If you have a sim card in your tablet or phone the pictures will be saved to that and not to the DCIM folder in phone memory.
ok i searched this issue but found nothing useful or helpful to fix this but every picture i take seems to dissappear after a few minutes and all i get is a gray triangle with an ! mark inside it for all pictures taken by the camera. anyone else have this issue?
im on bady boyz rom
rooted s-offed
h/k m8
No body is having issues with pictures not displaying correctly?? Im on ViperONEM8 rom but it did this on the stock rom and badboyz as well. must not be rom related but i dont know so sum one have any ideas what the issue is? thanks
Have you tried changing the storage location? Also, are you restoring your gallery each time you try a new ROM? You could have the folder hidden on accident and as you restore the gallery that folder becomes hidden again. See if you cannot find the photos another way, for example: Quickpic or ES File Browser.

thank you for helping.
unfortunately yes i did try changing the storage location, in the camera app i changed it to ext sdcard & phone storage both same issue. also i used the Xposed module "Downloads2SD" & "Pictures2SD" both to change the location but still same issue. as for restoring my gallery, no i dont restore it at all when installing new rom. unless somehow it automatically restores from my google account but i dont think it does.
I also have used Root Browser & ES File Explorer to look in every directory on phone and sdcard for the pictures and they cant be found anywhere.
thanks again for replying and trying to help appreciate it much. any other ideas tho?

What happens when you use a different camera app? If that doesn't work either I would suggest an RUU. If an RUU doesn't work I would suggest returning the phone.

still not working with other camera apps. im gonna try RUUing once and see if it still does it. i took a few pics today and all seemed fine until i went to view them later on then they were just displaying the gray triangle thing.. one pic was there and viewed fine one sec then the next its just like the others. i just looked in the gallery now and it shows the previews of these pics but i tap to open them and get the triangle again. its weird & really frustrating i took tons of great pics over the time with this phone and lost them all from this, except of course the stupid test shots ive taken of my wall or whatever pointless shots.. they seem to stay fine its just the important ones that wont.. aarrrghhh gonna RUU right now.
here is a screenshot of what displays for the pictures.. View attachment 2782818
come on isnt anybody having issues with pictures similiar at all?!
pictures i take sometimes show with parts of it having a section thats gray.. usually more then 50% of the pic is that way otherwise there is no pic just a black screen with the ! as shown in previous post here. can anyone please help me. ive lost a lot of important good pics due to this.
you all have always helped me with any issues ive had.. thanks for all that. and thanks for your help with this.

I am having the same issue i moved all my pictures to the external storage card to free up space but now the pics are in limbo i cant find them i just have the triangle where they use to be. the same thing holds true for apps
im beginning to suspect that KK write protection with the external sdcard is the culprit for this but im on viperonem8 and have tried the fixes i found that are suppose to fix the write protection issue and still having same issues. so anyone have any working fixes at all please let us know thanks

I am having the exact same issue and it is frustrating as hell. Especially when I get a great picture, then I go to show someone and it is ****ING GONE.. The only way that I can seem to save them if is when I take them, I immediately share them. After doing extensive research, I have narrowed it down to 2 possible issues.
1) The SD card is somehow corrupted, I purchased a 64GB SD card from eBay and I just recently read about an SD card scandal that was going on which could be the culprit. To test this, I am first going to try with a smaller card that I know works. If that doesn't work, I am going to have the pictures stored on the phone and see if that keeps them.
2) This problem really started to show itself after I downloaded an app called OneGallery, I don't really know if that has anything to do with it, or if it is completely coincidence. If replacing the SD card doesn't work, deleting this app will be the next step.
I love the phone too much to just turn it in or swap it out.
