I recently synced my HD after having flashed the EVO Grid 1.8 ROM.
Since it took over half an hour I disconnected the phone from the computer during the sync process. Now the screen freezes as soon as the smart mobility screen shows up. I soft reset' the phone as well as I tried hard resets. Still the phone doesn't go beyond the smart mobility screen and freezes. Is there another option to get the phone back apart from resetting it? Or is it completely bricked now. I've always successfully flashed the roms, so it can't be connected to a wrong ROM flash.Thank you for a feedback.
What you can try is place an ROM on your memory card (BLACIMG.nbn) and flash it. (shut down phone, hold vol down and power up).
Maybe this will do the trick. Good luck
Can you still get the phone into bootloader mode (tricolor screen)? It's likely you can - then just re-flash the rom (although to be safe I'd download it again).
Did you follow this guide to initally flash rom? If not, I'd suggest you do. As pointed out above, if you can still get into bootloader your device is not bricked. Just follow guide and reflash rom
just do like "jontelfer" said go to 'bootloader' for getting 'Tricolor' by pressing 'Volume Down' and 'Power' 1 time. Then u can see 'tricolor' and re-flash what ever rom you want.
I had try 'Xannytech ROM Grid Leo 2.5 (Internal Rel. 4.2.5.202)' and found the same as your problem 2 times already.
Now I'd change to test others.
I would be tempted to flash it back to original SPL and ROM and then start again from scratch. This happened to me a few months back, I couldnt flash any cooked ROMS at all until I reverted back to stock and started again.
Yeah and do not forget to hard reset after flashing. It can sound useless but it really helped me when I got some problems with some roms...

Thanks everyone. I flashed to a different ROM and it's working again now.
It's tougher than I thought to find an innovative, graphically sophisticated and most of all stable ROM.
good to hear had this ones before and gladly figured out how to go back and flashed it again with a stable rom!!

hi people.
hopefully 1 of you guys can help.
i flashed a dutty rom on my blackstone a while ago, and everything went fine. then a month or so later, for no reason, my fone just shuts off, 5 or 6 times a day. so i decided to flash the original software to see if its a hardware prob and then hopefully get the fone replaced.
the only problem is i managed to sync my fone ONCE since i put dutty's rom on and never since then. even in boot loader the fone only ever says "serial" and never, ever usb. i've tried different leads, different pc's, and these leads and pc's will connect to my old trinity which still flashes a dream!
so i reckon there must be some connection prob in the blackstone itself. any thoughts?
i read somewhere that you can flash from the memory card. so i got a rom, and copied it to the root of the card, then started in bootloader. it flashed up a grey screen with some writing on, then straight to the bootloader screen so fast, i never got chance to read what it said. did i not get something right?
the rom is titled "BLACIMG.nbh" on the card
thx in advance

First off all Flashing queries should be posted in this thread.
To answer your question.......If you are only getting 'serial' at bottom of bootloader I'd recommend flashing original stock rom which came with your device first before trying to flash a cooked rom. This original stock rom can be flashed even if it states 'serial' in bootloader (note - this is the only rom this will work with). Stock roms can be found here. Once you have flashed this stock rom, use this guide to flash rom
For your info, flashing from sd card should be done as follows:
Copy BLACIMG.nbh into the root dir of your Storage Card.
Be sure to have at least 30% of charge.
Turn off your device by using the Power Button
If you use HardSPL: Go to bootloader mode. Push and hold Vol Down + press Power button. The device will display a message and offer you to flash.
If you use USPL: Remove your microSD card first to prevent starting the flash, then go into bootloader mode. When in bootloader mode insert the card and follow the instructions on the USPL page to start USPL. The device will restart into USPL and will now present you the message to flash.
As soon as presented the message, push Power button to start flashing or Volume Down button to cancel.
The whole procedure will take about 3 minutes. After you finish and see the relative message, soft reset your device, you are ready.
Please post further flashing queries in dummies guide thread

For the past few months I've been flashing separate Energy Roms onto my tilt 2. I finally found one that I liked and stuck with it for the past few weeks, which was the Dinik Glass Energy rom.
Everything was running great until last night when I was watching a video on You tube and everything froze up. I pulled the battery out and turned the phone back on and now it keeps going to the boot loader screen....
I've tried re flashing different roms to see if that would work but I've gotten nothing out of it.
If anyone could let me know of anything that i could possibly do to try and fix this I would be highly appreciative of it.
I dont know what may have caused the problem but in your situation i would have tried to do task29, flash radio and then flash a new ROM. this is normally how i flash my roms but task29 may remove somethin that may be causing the problem. if you have already done so, sorry for wasting 5 secs of your life ... let me know if it worked
Can you show me where I can dl task 29 at?
I had the same thing happen to my tilt2 last week!
Use task 29,
dont freak out when it only shows the screen that says touch pro 2.
Enter into bootloader and run ruu from there, it will fix everything.
Dont flash with sd card in or it will happen again.
I had to clear my sd card and reload it! good luck.
one more thing after task 29 do not disconnect from usb until you load next rom, that is what worked for me best.
hope it helps
I used the RUU and i tried reloading the ROM but it still starts in boot loader screen every time.
Should I just hit the hard reset?
you have nothing to loose by a hard reset at this point ... IF that works.
If I hard reset it will I have to flash a hard spl again?
Ok i noticed that yoy are pritty confused about the terminolog, so here is some help:
1. Task 29 - delets your rom of the phone so your phone become practicly unuseble.
2. HardSpl - "Unocks" (allowes) the phone for flashing custom made roms - i.e. all roms and ro preform Task 29.
3. Hard rest - reinstalls allready flashed rom.
4. Soft reset restart the phone - on/of
5. BOOTLOADER - allowes you to flash without activesync and from Sd card.
When any problem turns on with phene i usually check to see if there is any connection running. I discovered that too much internet over phone makes a phone buggy dissregarding the rom.
You dont have to hardspl phone again, once you did is enough.
Okay well here is the problem then... every time I turn the phone on it goes straight to bootloader. The only button I press to turn the phone on is the main power button. I've ran the custom RUU twice now. I've tried flashing a new rom onto the phone via sd card but it still turns on in bootloader mode. I'm nearly freaking out now because I'm led to believe I've got a bricked piece of $hit.
I hate sounding like a noob but if there is some way someone could run a step by step process to me that works I might through some $$ via pay pal.

I had the same problem with a phone about a month ago. I was able to flash the stock rom and it would boot up then put on the stock SPL and relock the phone. Sometimes I was able to take the battery out and get it to boot but even with the stock ROM I was getting the bootloader at startup. So once I reloaded the stock ROM and relocked it, I returned it and got a replacement.
Sorry, nothing I did every resolved the problem.
good luck.
I agree with taking everything back to stock
flash stock rom
do a spl relock
and start over...
oh, and dont forget about radios! idk if that could be part of the problem tho
I never changed the radio's so I should be good to go then, just the stock rom?
Try this :
- Enter bootloader
- Connect USB cable so "serial" in the bootloader changed to "USB"
- Perform Task29
- Reset
- If the phone enters bootloader skip this step. If not, hold volume down key while resetting (push the reset switch with stylus). The phone will enter bootloader.
- Flash a stock ROM. Download it from HTC website if you don't have one.
- Reboot.
Ow, the stock ROM also contains Radio. So Flashing with stock ROM will flash your radio also.

When you returned your phone and got a replacement was your phone starting in boot loader?
If so how did the workers at the ATT store react to that so I know what to expect?

How would you recommend that I flash the stock ROM back on?
I'm kind of confused because I've always flashed with my SD card, how do I do it through my USB? Could you give me a step by step?
Well, those steps I wrote are basically "step-by-step how to flash from usb".
Allow me to clear it:
- Enter bootloader -> Hold volume down button while pushing the reset switch
- Connect USB cable to your computer. and wait until the "serial" word in the bootloader changed to "USB"
- Perform Task29, download task29 and unzip it. run ROMUpdateUtility.exe. Follow the instruction.
- Reset/reboot. well, the phone will reboot itself after task29 is completed
- If the phone enters bootloader skip this step. If not, hold volume down key while resetting (push the reset switch with stylus). The phone will enter bootloader. Connect the usb cable again to your computer (if you disconnect it.) and wait until the word "serial" changed to "usb" again.
- Flash a stock ROM. Download it from HTC website if you don't have one. Just run the exe file you downloaded and follow the wizard.
- Reboot.
I reccomend you to flash with stock ROM because Stock ROMs are "Guaranteed to work(at least by HTC )" and contains radio that may be the cause of your problem. there's no need to flash to stock SPL, yet.
I was stuck in bootloader...
You can find task 29 here. I always do this before flashing.
After task 29, make sure USB is still plugged in and enter bootloader by holding Volume Down key while hitting the reset button. You should see USB on the bottom of the bootloader screen.
Now you should be able to flash the NRG ROM by running the RUU in the same folder as your ROM (rhodium.nbh file).
If this doesn't help, search the entire forum for "stuck in bootloader." I did this and it saved me the hassle of the warranty process.

I was able to get it to boot to the ROM by removing the battery several times and reinserting, powering on until it boot. I am on TMobile and called them and they sent me a new phone and returned the old through the mail after expalining the problem. So never went into the store.
good luck.
I'm new to this whole flashing custom ROMS business. I have a CDMA HTC Hero 2000 and I downgraded to the original 2.1 before the update just fine, rooted my phone just fine. Then I tried to flash Aloysius to it using instructions I found here: [Complete Guide] How To Flash A Custom ROM To Your Android Phone With ROM Manager + Full Backup & Restore | Android News, Reviews, Applications, Games, Phones, Devices, Tips, Mods, Videos, Podcasts - Android Police
After all was said and done, my phone starts to boot with the "HTC quitely brilliant" logo, following by "SPRINT the Now network" logo and after it shows "Now" for many seconds (as it normally does before pulling up the home screen), it reverts back to the HTC logo and repeats this process until I remove the battery.
I removed the microSD and attempted to boot, same thing. Then I held down HOME+BACK+POWER to do a manual hard reset, this took a little longer but again had the same result.
I may just cry now. Please help!!
Run the official sprint ruu, and see what that does for u. Then read the rooting guide here on xda and try it. I personally recommend amon ra recovery to flash roms, rom manger never seemed to work right. Feel free to pm for more help, dont worry u prob arent bricked unless u flashed a gsm rom (which aloysius isn't)

That's a bootloop not a brick You could try downloading a different rom and flashing it in recovery, nandroid restoring - if you made one, or flashing the same rom again. just wipe your phone before (data/cache/dalvik)
Didn't get a chance to get on here until now but I fixed it last night.
I did this by going back into reboot recovery mode (by pressing HOME and POWER), going to partition settings, COMPLETELY wiping everything on the sd card, mounting the USB and dragging a new ROM .zip file onto it. (I tired this twice without completely wiping and the phone continued to have problems booting.
The flash worked fine that time and all has been well. Turns out the first one I was trying to apply to it was just an upgrade.
Thanks everyone for your help, makes perfect sense now.

Four key words to remember when trying out any new rom
Nandroid is your friend!
additionally, you should always remember to wipe before loading a new rom!
Enjoy!
Yeah, don't ever panic, that was, as everyone said, a bootloop by textbook definition. I've never seen a brick before, but I'm damn sure it won't get as far as the Sprint logo. The only way to brick a CDMA Hero is to flash a GSM Radio/Bootloader to it.
Hi guys,
I think I finally managed to brick my phone. Everything was working perfectly fine, until today when decided to try GB's Steam kernel.
So a little background first, to make things quicker:
- I was able to open download and recovery mode before, even after doing a odin3 one click restore twice.
- I've tried a Cognition and moved to DarkyYtt3r. Went from 7.0.1 to 7.5 to 7.8 to 8.0.1, no issues.
- Changed the kernel and modem several times. The last one I tried was glitterball's uc/ov stable (no charging death).
- Current set up before this mess:
-- ROM: DarkyYtter v8.0.1 > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890429
-- Kernel: gb-reorient-fixed-ocuv-f-cwm.zip > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887315
-- Modem: TLJL3 I think.
Everything working beautifully.
Today I saw this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=903238 ... gb's steam kernel. since no one was having major issues, I made a backup of my current rom using CWNand decided to install the kernel using SGS Kernel flasher, according to instructions.
Cool. I've flashed kernels before a few times. No big deal. And I figured, I'm able to get into Recovery or worst case scenario into download mode. I flashed the kernel, reboot, got into Steam's recovery. Looked around. Activated a couple of tweaks although I don't remember which ones.
Rebooted and this is where the issues began. I got the "intro" window you get with i9000 roms (keyboard intro, syncing, etc). A lot of apps were force closing, including facebook, twitter, rom manager, ADW Launcher, etc.
Ok, so I rebooted to Steam recovery and deleted the cache. Went back and the same problem. At least I was able to boot the system.
I said, oh well, let's go back to our backup. Booted Steam's recovery, and tried to recover from the last backup.
It worked for one boot. Not sure what I did, I don't remember, but after trying to boot again, the phone displays the AT&T screen, the GT-I900 screen and then the Galaxy S screen. I then feel the force close vibration, and the screen goes black. I can touch the softkeys and they blink, but I feel the FC vibration every 10 or 15 seconds.
Somewhere along the line something bad happened.... but here is what's bothering me. I cannot get back into download or recovery mode anymore. Been there all day trying to make it work with no luck at all.
So, more importantly, somewhere along the line, between rom flashes, or something, I lost the ability to get into recovery or download mode. I've heard that I900 roms have different button combos, but nothing works
I'll buy a few resistor packs tomorrow, and some cables just in case. I'm afraid that I won't be able to boot into download mode this way either.
also, adb is not detecting the phone. tried both windows and linux. if I could only get it even for one second so I can send a adb reboot download... but no
Do you guys have any ideas?
Thanks!

Did you ever get this problem fixed? The reason I ask is because I'm in this same situation.
We seem to be having the same problem also... Nothing has worked for me so far

Im going to get a jig hopefully all goes well.
I'm completely stumped on this. I'm new to Custom Roms.
So a long time (a little over year aprox) I bought an GT-N7000 from an at-the-time friend (no longer friends)
He factory reset and installed a custom rom (Paranoid Android) on it. (Such a nice gesture..)
Now, speed forth Christmas last year, I bought a Galaxy Note 3 for myself, and I then sold off the N7000 to my older brother.
Now my brother comes to me and tells me that his phone is acting weird.
I take a look and notice that the phone has apparently partitioned itself into several drives, making the phone run incredibly slow and he keeps getting an annotation going "There's way too little space left!"
Now, as I mentioned I'm new to custom roms and that kind of stuff, but my initial "brilliant" idea was to simply factory reset it, and install the Stock Rom on it.
I grabbed a Stock rom from Sammobile that had a country that at least was english in nature (UK) I unfortunately live in Denmark, and so therefor it was impossible to find a Stock rom that fits it.
I grabbed it, loaded it onto ODIN3 and went into Recovery Download Mode. And I started installing it. Everything went smoothly.
Then when the phone restarted it started boot looping.
I looked and searched everywhere for fixes. Problem was, looking at the first few fixes I've seen include links to .PIT files that are either dated or ancient in nature.
androidayos.com and android.gs both had a fix, but their links was either out dated or not helpful for my specific case.
And so I beseech thee oh mighty XDA Developers.
Have you a solution/help that might be what I need.
I've read that I should go into a recovery mode that allows me to look at the files. (Read that I could do so by holding the Home Button + Power button when it turned on. But such a function didn't seem to work on the N7000.)
I've also tried looking at installing Paranoid Android again, but that requires access into the Recovery Mode. Which I, again, do not have.
PIT files are dated because they never change. They have been the same since device manufacturing date.
So did you reset before odin install? Recovery mode is by pressing the power + vol up + home together.

Well, I had to flash in phillz to actually get a recovery mode to work.
But I managed to do just that, and then whipe the caches and I could then get the stock rom flashed onto it.
Which then got the phone to work properly.
No failures to report yet.
So for the moment a full-on success story!
