That seems really small. I just looked at the properties for an alarm clock icon...It says its 48 X 48 pixels, 96dpi, 32 bit-depth...Only reason I am asking is every time I've tried replacing icons, the resolution gets screwed up.

Lolz got it have to use my pc
I tried to set my Macbook wallpaper (1280x800) on the Xoom and it turned out very badly and it didn't fill the entire screen, when it asked me to corp.
I was wondering what is the res and the ppi.
I think it's full HD : 1920*1080
I was wondering if anyone know what is the resolution of the system wallpapers...
I'm trying to find them but couldn't locate it under the launcher2.apk
Did they change this in v3?
In launcher2.apk
res\drawable-mdpi\
res\drawable-xlarge-nodpi\
The nodpi has 1920x1080 images in and include the City Default Wallpaper
That's where the wallpaper's are from what I can see.

It can't be 1920x1080 because it fits the wallpaper crop perfectly. Where as my 1080 picture has too much width.
Thanks for the path anyways, I'll mail the pictures to myself and see what is the res of it.
Wo this is driving me crazy....
The resolution of the system wallpaper in 1980x1280... now the images look good
but, the top and bottom parts are cut off... I added 100 pixels on top and bottom...
Still about 250 pxls get cut from both end.
aarrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh
I found that if you get a 2560 x 1600 wide wallpapes it fits perfectly and its clear as well. You can get some 2560 x 1600 wide wallpapers at bestwallpapersite.com. Let me know if this works for you.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
1920x1408 works perfectly.

yes 1920x1408 crops fits perfectly but still about 250 pxls are cut on either end
This happens on the default wallpapers too... look at the android flower wallpaper...
but the images are sharp now... but still if you have a vertical target in the picture... their head and feet are cut.

I don't personally own a Xoom, so I might be way off here, but aren't the images a little "taller" than the screen because when you open the app window it scrolls up a little? I'm guessing it would scroll down at some point as well. I seem to remember it doing that when I messed with my friends yesterday. Not sure if that is why, just a thought.

Your correct. This exactly why, I got the 2560 x 1600 picture, that way when the menu crops the wallpaper is still clear due to the picture being bigger than normal resolution, so when you zoom in to the picture it still clear. It work fine for me so it should for you also. When you crop the picture it fits the way you want it to as well.
I use 1920 x 1200 and it fits perfectly.

Does everything in the square (when you set a wallpaper) fills the screen?
I tried 1280x800, 1920x1200, 1920x1080, 1920x1408 and 2560x1600...
in these only 1920x1408 fits the 'wallpaper square' perfectly but still the picture in zoomed and top and bottom cut...
Can you do me a fav and post your wallpaper and the screen grab with it set as wallpaper?
thanks a ton

Great guide...thanks for sharing.
Seems to me they would have thought of an easier way to apply custom wallpaper without needing to go through all of this.
While all of these hints will help, they are still not the actual resolution of the wallpaper. I played around in photoshop until I found the actual demintions.
Have a look at my post here for a template PDF file.

you are a godsend, yes every other tip here makes the wallpaper crispier but they are still cropped.
You don't notice this if you set a abstract wallpaper.
What you posted is dead on the spot. Thanks a million
I flashed one of the Sense 3.0 roms today and found that the entire rom is slightly-off scale. The best way to see this is to add an analog clock, and it looks like it is flattened with the horizontal diameter longer than the vertical one. I did some calculations and this is because:
Code:
Kingdom: qHD = 960/540 = 1.777...
Incredible: 800/480 = 1.666...
So as you can see, the Kingdom is a bit "taller", and thus directly translating the images from the Kingdom will lead to the screen appearing a bit stretched horizontally. I don't have much experience, but I can tell that adjusting EVERY image in a rom is probably extremely difficult.
So why not, instead of messing with images, modify the display?
Obviously we can't make our displays taller into
Code:
1.777... * 480 = 854
854 by 480, so instead we can make our displays narrower. With some math:
Code:
800 * (540/960) = 450
so we can make our displays 800x450 by chopping off 15 pixels from each side with some software hacks. Also, we could get around images being distorted by setting LCD density higher so that the images would fit.
That last part with LCD density is a bit iffy, but I'm sure that you devs can get it to work.
(Sorry if this is in the wrong section. I thought it would fit better in Development than in General.)

How does the m10 decoder work? Is it multiplatform or Windows/Linux only, and GUI or terminal? If it works on Mac and is terminal-based, I will be willing to M10 all day (through Automator).

I just asked all my friends, and not one of them could even see it wasnt perfect circle...your talking less than a percent off here? is it big enough of a problem to warrant 40 hours of man power to fix?

In my hour running Incubus' alpha, the bottom of the screen gets cut off in certain apps. I'd imagine the OP's suggested changes might fix that as well, and that's a dealbreaker for me.

Well, maybe 5%, but text is also wider than original. Very bad to my picky eyes.
Thats odd, Im comparing my phone (Sense 3.0) to my friends Stock Unrooted dinc, and i can barely see a different, except my images are higher quality.
So nobody can see it? Everything just looks so... off.
Sense 3.0 changed alot of the dimensions anyways, as I said most things are .9 images, and wont distory unless severe dimension changes, and .111 difference is pretty small.
I also noticed that text is wider-spaced. Can anybody see that?
I'm starting to think I'm paranoid...

Max resolution supported by Galaxy mini is 240x320,if you change to 320x480 for sure will not fit with your display.
On Ubuntu the example that you took ,your lcd or crt supports a max resolution of 1080p(as example),lets say you can switch between 1080p and 720p,if you switch to a higter resolution will not work for sure.

Title speaks for it self... Stayed a bit with 515 (and even 600) and although I like the spacing and screen size it's kind of fatiguing to the eyes; to a level in which i guess I ran more to my laptop... Just realized it today
Wanna go back and I went with 411 but not sure if this is the default one. Anyway all looks very crisp and sharp now
384 dp is the default
Wow... Thanks... Seems kind of big tbh... Thought was higher than the 411 I found elsewhere for sure not smaller

it's because you're so used to the small sizes now lol
Been at 593 since I got it and never going back.
Why this particular value? Just curious. I've seen that after 600'ish even app layouts are changing... Like it's a tablet or sorts...
I tried a few values, and yeah, around 600 some things won't display correctly, 593 was the value I settled on, looks good and small, display everything right, and never had a reason to change it again.
Hello can you upload a screen shot to see how things are with this DPI please ?
I don't know if this works for long, but here it is.
