Hi,
i want to partition my 8gb class 6 sd card with RA-dream-v1.5.2.
I use CyanogenMod the newest version and the HardSPL+newest Radio...
Which size would be making sense for swap and ext4???
I think for ext about 500mb, or???
And what is with swap size?
Thanks for help

well, as many of the threads posted by devs say, 512 is a good recommended ext size. as far as swap goes, you don't really need it for any CM builds. that isn't to say you can't use it. I always have my card partitioned at about 6.5gb fat32, 512 ext3 and 40 for swap because i got tired of repartitioning it everytime i wanted to flash a hero or eclair.
So i don't need swap for CyanogenMod???
Should i although give swap size 96???

Cyanogen does not use swap by default and it will not be activated unless you make it so. I would just because if you go to a rom that uses swap you won't need to repartition
Ok, so i make no swap, thanks....

Super-D & Wesgarner's roms are faster.Might wanna try those out.Cyan is good for those that want just the stability and normal speed.
But for those I need Danger SPL, or???
Are they stable like CyanogenMod???

they're a lil bit more iffy. i can't say for sure as i haven't given either of them a fair chance on my device, but from what i've heard, they're speedier. but for supreme stability, Cyan is the best. and just to be clear, you don't NEED swap for cyanogen, but it's always good to have it just in case you want to test out a hero or eclair build, you know?
and i'm not sure, but i think those do require the danger spl, but honestly, if you read the directions and know what you're doing, you can accomplish is with great success. i've done it twice already and both times have worked flawlessly.

You are right, they need the Danger spl
Yeah, but the question is, if i need an other rom than Cyan...
Have the roms any more functions or something else???
The Cyan has the advantage that i can Update with only my G1 and have often updates+many themes...
I heard that the Hero Roms haven't bluetooth, what i don't find good.
Are their else any differences or why do many people use hero or eclair roms???

for one thing, hero is GORGEOUS. eclair has supreme features and it's really sexy too. as of right now, eclair is my rom of choice, with a backup of cyanogen for stability. the only downside for eclair really is the camcorder, which will be worked out once htc releases the drivers. camera works now, as does practically everything else.
so to answer your question, yes, other builds have other features. but in essence, it's a matter of personal preference. if you want stability with good speed, cyanogen is a great choice. if you want a gorgeous look on your phone with awesome widgets, go with hero. for the latest features, then eclair is your rom. it's a matter of what you want.
Ok, so i think then i test hero and ecliar...
First i have to install danger SPL, have anyone good and safe tutorial???
And what are the best hero/eclair roms???
???????????????????????????????????
Super D
Just my 2 cents - I've found SuperD just as stable as Cyanogen, actually more so - never had an fc problem since installing 1.5 and then 1.6. If you've got DangerSPL/don't need it because you're on a MT3G, then definitely give it a whirl. i was really shocked by how good it is. Same with Dwang, although there's less in the way of goodies. Haven't tried WG yet.
I keep a swap partition on my card - 64mb personally. even if the rom ain't using it, it stops me from losing my data going to hero/eclair as mentioned above.
But with hero and eclair i have no bluetooth, or???
What i have to do now?
My SD 8gb sd card is partitioned: 96mb swap, 512 ext4
I have to update to danger spl and then??? Install a easiliy the rom, or have i to wipe or something when i change rom???
?????????????????????

Sup all i've been learning alot lately and it seems to be going good but i still dont kno it all so ofc ill come here and ask
Hero Rom
1. Does most of the Hero Roms(MLIGN,KiNgxKxROM,maxisma, ect.) support Ext4 and will work just as the other Ext's
2. Do they work with that Switchrom script/app w/e u wanna call it, say i wanted to switch back and forth from Cliq to Hero Roms
Cliq Rom
1. Does this work with Haykuro's SPL
2. Does this work with Ext4
3. Does it get along with Switchrom aswell say if i wanted to switch back and forth from Hero to Cliq Roms

Looks like most hero roms support ext2/3. KiNgxKxROM rom supports ext4. Ext4 is still real new so I would stick with ext3. Switchrom script should work with all roms cause it's just a script to help make switching roms easier. As far as the Cliq rom you are asking I assume you mean the blur rom. I believe (but not 100% sure) that you will need the "danger" spl. I didn't see it in the description of the rom. Most devs will post the requirements in there posts as of what the rom will need.
yea i ment blur but ya i should had checked the post i downloaded it awhile ago just see the requirements didnt flash it yet either so i dont kno and, whats the diffrence between ext3 and ext4 if you kno thx Super

No problem. Both ext3 and ext4 both support journaling where ext2 doesn't making ext3 and ext4 safer to use than ext2. But you can read this from wiki to have a complete description
ext4

ext3

Not a problem at all. You know as long as I'm at work I'm able to help all day long but things change when I get home.
ya RL>All beleave me i understand that all too well no worries
I have only ran Cyan from day 1 after rooting. It's all I know. I have high expectations in his next stable and will probably be complacent with that build.
However, with that said:
Anyone recently leave a Cyan build?
What did you go?
What did you think of it?
I might flash it, create a nandroid in case I want to mix it up a bit after cyans newest stable comes out.
I'd give one of the Hero roms a go. Some are almost as fast as Cyanogen's buils.
For real? Which ROM? Did you have a 96 partition?
Hey,
I have always had a nandroid backup to Cyans latest ROM, but have lately been trying Mlign or Kings latest hero's. For me they both work very, very well.
Im running a Class 6 4GB SD with 96mb swap.
Im always updating to the latest release, and there always seems to be something better on the horizon, im very interested in the Pulse if that gets some love I will be switching again.
Best thing you can do is keep your stable release as a backup and then flash away, try a few different builds and see what suits you best. Bare in mind that different settings seem to give varying results, but as a rule if a dev gives you reccomended swap size then you should not ignore that, it might seem a pain to re-partition your SD, but moving from a 32mb to 96mb swap made a huge difference for me.
hope this helps you.
i'm kinda in the same boat. I've been using cyan builds since I first rooted my phone and have been thinkin about tryin something diffrent. One of the things that has really detered me from tryin builds based on other devices is some of the basic functions not working in the past like bt or wifi, especially wifi! However after reading this I'm gonna give Kings rom a try while I wait to see what "tricks" cyan has in store for his stable release.
are there any recommedations for the HardSPL
cause i dont want to switch to the DangerSPL
im still at cm 4.0.4 and its a bit buggy at the moment, so i have to wipe and want to try another rom
Now I'm on cyanogen 4.1.9999 waiting for 4.2..... for me il the best rom...
Tia
Idk
so i got cyanogen's 4.2.12.2 loaded. apps on SD.
the phone is kinda slow, but the biggest concern is that it stalls/freezes for few seconds and stops responding, then works just fine. it happens a lot. it makes my overall usage experience a sluggish one. all i have left in internal memory is 27 MB ! why? shouldn't apps be on sd. is that cache that being used up every time an app is running in the background? not really sure i understand whats happening. i know i have over 100 apps on there, but i thought they should be running off of my SD.
i'm growing tired of the phone. is it possible to speed it up? can i get some memory back without sacrificing too many apps?
Try going to the android market and downloading the "overclock widget", and also snag the free task manager and then add the widget to your phones desktop so that way you can kill the apps and set the clock with over clock.
That should help your problem broski.
Cyanogenmod is a bloated pig.
Look in the dev section for enomther's "expansion pack". It basically adds on some extra features to a more-or-less stock rom. Performance is phenomenal.
my concern is the internal phone storage. i don't understand why it's dropping. i see people reporting 40 and 50 MB for internal storage while having 100+ apps.
how is that possible? what am i doing wrong.
by the way, my current internal memory size (based on taskpanel widget) is 17 MB!!!
Try a different rom....i suggest WG Build Y 2.6 or Super D, they are fast and stable.

Super D is based off of dwang/Cyan...HTCClay is the orig person that started Super-D but he stopped development and gave it to BB.
Enom's is really good, its stock and doesnt have a bunch of hacks and its still faster than cyan.Expsetup is a good addon from the expansion pack.

I would tell this guy to re-partition, wipe everything under wipe, and then flash
overall, i like cyanogen's mods. i'd like to keep it if i could.
i installed PeakMemUsage and took a look at whats using up most of the memory
- Android system/checkin service 30 MB
- Quick search box/home/google 26 MB
- better keyboard 14 MB
- weather widgets 17 MB
- My Account 15 MB
- Dialer 16 MB
is this normal?

then go with SuperD - superficially it looks the same - all the same additions from eclair, spare parts etc, but a hell of a lot faster.

Here you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=613809
I'm pretty sure Super D just uses the 10mb ram hack and compcache - no linux swap support, but I've you've already got a partition on your card (I've got 64mb myself) it won't hold it up - it just won't be used. you can keep your partition setup, just wipe everything (I use amon ra recovery - can't remember if wipe ext and cache is on cyan's build) and flash the update. I'm on an HTC magic 32B, so haven't needed to go down the SPL/radio update because stock can cope with it, but if you're on a G1 then you'll need to do it *very carefully*. if you don't follow the inx you can brick your phone.
if you want to keep your apps use backup for root users - it can be a bit iffy, so i tend to just redownload everything from the market - your downloads are remembered, so it only takes a few minutes.
i stayed with cyan's roms for ages - very user friendly and stable, but it's worth experimenting to see which you like best. if you've got a class 6 card then check out some of the eclair roms for the live wallpaper stuff, superD,m dwang and WG for speed and stability and espresso for prettiness.
Which is faster? Super D or xROM (Eclair)?
Hello there, I recently flashed CM6 to my G1 and used Zeam for a faster launcher, but friends are telling me that when they used CM6, their phone got slower and slower as time went on, and that I should seek alternatives.
I hear one of the best Android 2.2 roms out there is Froyo by Laszlo, and from reading it seems the only major difference is that it can use the more recent radio/spl/kernel which adds 15MB, and that it's generally lighter than CM6 as well.
Can anyone give me a rundown on what some of the other major differences are? I also hear other good ones are ezterry's AOSP and Froyo for Trout.
As for upgrading the Radio and SPL needed for Froyo by Laszlo:
Considering I have DangerSPL (HBOOT-1.33.2005), RA's Recovery, and Radio 2.22.23.02, is there anything extra I need to worry about other than what's outlined in this thread?
Thanks in advance.

I have not tried froyo by laszlo, but i have tried cm6 , so i cant tell what the difference is, but another major difference is that froyo by laszlo has apps2sdext, which allows you to install apps in a ext3 or ext 4 partition on your sd card, while cm6 does not.
I noticed that, does it set up the partitions for you, or will I have to do this myself? What would a good size for them be?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097920
its on page 3, but the whole thread might be helpful
Okay, thanks for that, I'm going to try it now.
EDIT: Last question, does the updated kernel for 2708 come pre-installed with Froyo by Laszlo or does that have to be done separately as well?
EDIT2: D'oh, nevermind, I saw it in the features list. Right now it's booting, hope it works!
EDIT3: Wow, they weren't lying, Laszlo did a great job, it's lightning fast! I'm not partial to the theme choice, but I know this can be changed easily.
Thanks for your help.
I do have a few more questions though;
1. How do I revert to the Android 2.2 Google Market? The new one feels a bit too cluttered to me, and flashing CM6 Google Apps did not change this
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I simply ended up replacing the lock screen with Froyo's, as well as tweaking the status bar (making it a gradient rather than solid black, for example)
ok my personal opinion... froyobylaszlo the BEST froyo rom hands down... only issue i find is that the developer stopped updating soo you can take it upon yourself to make changes if you dont like it.. but still to this day i thinks its the best.. sorry to offend anyone by saying that but its only my personal opinion... lazslo rom is just so smooth and stable..
my sd was 128mb swap and 1024mb ext4 and i used this kernel... http://www.4shared.com/file/1j_4eg7x/ezBiffTestKernel20110222-2708_.html
honestly you will love this rom but i recomend upgrading your radio and hboot... can follow this guide or the one you posted earlier by habbitat22, they are kinda the same..
