Possible to Edit a Rom? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi, I am curious if it is possible to edit an existing rom like the PDACorner Ultimate X V-9(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428261). I would like to delete and add some applications. And change the theme etc.

Know it can delete but not sure on add mind you can add via .cab.
You won't be able to dump the ROM as it's protected.

Simple Adding/Editing ROMs

Does an application exist in which you can simply open an existing ROM and add/remove applications currently saved to it?
I have searched & found some tools which seem somewhat complicated to use.
* If I want to edit an existing ROM that I downloaded (which is a binary *.exe) how do I extract the img from it (supposed to be: nk.nba??).
What I really want is to add Compact Framework 2.0 to the Official "Clean" 2.26 T-Mobile ROM. I do not want all the applications that many ROM cookers here included in their releases. I would use one (as many of the registry tweaks I want), but I need to be able to edit the existing ROM before installing it on my MDA.
* From the tools I have seen you can add cab files to a rom, but how would you add Compact Framework 2.0 which comes as a *.msi file?
A simple gui interface that looks much like an ftp application with two window panes (one showing the existing rom contents & the other showing your local disk to add files from) would be great.
Please do not flame me for not searching better. If a thread does exist, at least give the search terms that will not return 500 results.
I'd appreciate some help here.
I don't think what you're look for exists but your probably should be asking the guys who hang out in the "Development & Hacking" Forum here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=260)

How to optimize/create a ROM? Topaz Cooking related questions here

Hi all!
I'm new at this, but I'd like to learn how I download a normal ROM, and then change the icons and background images, add and remove programs, change the language etc.
I will not go in and change the very advanced stuff.
I've already downloaded this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625971
I do not know if it is correct (or latest), and what more I need. But the easiest might be to go into an already completed the ROM and then just adjust what I have mentioned above.
Hoping for constructive answers
Sincerely,
PS! I've already downloaded and tried different ROMs, so I know how I am doing just that.

What if you try Mondilv ROM kitchen. His kitchen is on the latest official ROM based and works fine. I based my private ROM on his work.
Thanks for the answer.
I'm downloading it now for testing and to try to find out how to edit it myself.
But what's the newest 6.5.3 (or 6.6) kitchen?

The kitchens are the same, it depends what ROM is used as a base. As far as I know, there is no kitchen shared with 6.5.3 ROM, you will have to do it by yourself. The SYS and XIP files for 6.5.3 are somewhere here in the forum available, EXT and OEM can be found as well.
I've looked at this video; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6LEUx4wEk4&translated=1 but I can't find a program that looks like that. Which program is it that I need to use? I've tried NBHUtil, but that doesn't seemed to be the right one...
I'm actually just gonna do what I was saying in the first post, and when I manage to do it, I will experiment further.

Search for Ervius Visual Kitchen or EVK, and you will find it.
Available as well on my mirror in the kitchen folder. Check my signature for the link.
I think I just give up all these OEM, EXT, MsXIP files, etc.
But is it possible for me to get into the "windows" folder on the ROM I use? I would like to change such as icon images, erase and install other programs and may change the language (which is not very important, but had been fine), etc.
I see that I can get into the "windows" folder on your mobile, but it takes so long to sit there to puzzle. It is easier through the laptop, with mice and larger screen.
Thank you for following up this thread, BeeGee_Tokyo

You can use a file explorer like Total Commander or Resco File Explorer on your device to overwrite or delete files in the Windows folder. However, as long as you do not know what the files that you are deleting are doing, the device might hang afterwards and you have to do a hard reset.
If you want to change icons/pictures of the Sense (aka Manila aka TouchFlo) you can use a tool named Manila Editor.
If you want to change other icons/pictures, they are sometimes in DLL files. Usually you cannot replace them, because they are "in use" by Windows.
Back again to the kitchen, you can find the kitchen that you saw in the youtube movie prepared with a ROM for Topaz here in the forum.
I published my kitchen, check my thread.
Don't worry, even the ROM has a Japanese name, it is based on an English WM6.5 ROM. Not that advanced as Dutty, Mondilv, Iljanok, Patensas, Aman, ......... ROMs, but stable and good for daily use.
PM me if you have specific questions on the kitchen.
Now I'm downloading mondilv's kitchen v.4.1.
That's 6.5, and in english language. Do anyone know where I can find a ROM that runs WM6.5.3 that I can use as ROM-base? (ex. the newest official ROM on htcpedia?)
A summary so far:
1. I have dumped this ROM and have it as a base; http://htcpedia.com/official_norwagian_rom_update_for_touch_diamond2/soft/htc-topaz-rom.html?page=1 (0414 = norwegian language)
2. Downloaded all three .zip files (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5310417&postcount=344) and using the build 23518 in SYS, EXT and ROM folders.
3. Disabled some of the programs I do not want (although I do not quite understand what all programs do, of course I understand that YouTube is YouTube, etc. but ...)
4. Set page pool to 20 (no idea what this means but have seen that it is most common: P)
So some questions:
5. Why is there not a automatically "device id"? What is this?
6. How do I add programs (eg Skype, mySpot)? Can I add these. Cab files into the EXT folder?
7. If I want to remove various tones, images, icons of the programs, how can I do this?
So a few questions about Ervius Visual bebe's kitchen v.1.8.2:
8. What is LZX Compression?
9. What is OLD style ROM?
Would've been nice if someone could help me
Is there anyone that can help me with these few questions?

5. Not sure what this error is.
6. To add programs you must find the OEM package and add it to the Ext folder, cabs will not install from the kitchen.
7. I would search the kitchen for .wav, .mp3, .jpg, .png, .gif etc. to for items to customize. make sure they are exactly as they were before you replaced them as far as resolution, filenames, etc.
Icons and manila are more indepth so it is best to find a theme package that suites your tastes. I strongly suggest looking into max Manila as and OEM package.
8. LZX compression is a file compressor that reduces the overall size of the ROM. it can cause issues but it is always good to try it.
9. Old style ROM, I believe this is to use old style packages and normally would not be used.
Ok, thanks for answering
Point 5 is critical, because I can't save or create a ROM without a device id.
Does anybody know why or how I can get it?
5 : I have in my EV Kitchen TOPA10000
6 : cab to oem to ext

The problem with the device id is that it doesen't show/make an id automatically, and I can't wright anything there so it's kind of difficult do make a device id. And as I mentioned before, I can't save or create a ROM without the id.
Is there anyone that can help me how to get a device id?
Is it because the base I'm using?
go to KITCHEN FOLDER/ROM and there is file info.txt, I have got in that file this text
Topaz
DPI_192
dpi_192_resh_480_resv_800
MODEL:TOPA10000
CHUNK:64
perhaps this is what you need, can't help you better because my laptop is broken at the moment

I have this:
1. I have dumped this ROM and have it as a base; http://htcpedia.com/official_norwagi...om.html?page=1 (0414 = norwegian language)
2. Downloaded all three .zip files (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=344) and using the build 23518 in SYS, EXT and ROM folders.
But when you're using that kitchen, are you having WM6.5.3?
What I want is to remove Manila, set norwegian language, have WM6.5.3 (not 6.5) and add/remove some programs and ringtones/wallpapers.
Where can I get BeeGee's kitchen? Just to try it...

How to replace ROM icons

Hi guys =)
I need your help please, because I want to replace icons of a ROM (I know I must change framework-res.apk ?) by own icons or another ROM's icons.
I have .jpg (or another image file) but if I note in the apk, it's .xml file.
So, I'm lost.
one of the easiest method in my opinion:

I recommend UOT Kitchen. http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/
Here is the related thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=990829
You can also use the application called "Rom Toolbox". But i didn't use it so i can't give any feedback. But i used UOT kitchen and worked like a charm.. And looks like crazy beautiful.

Modify a ROM for personal use

Hi, I would like to modify the Slimwizz 5 ROM for personal use. I want to remove some apps and add some stock ones that are missing and needed for me. I would also like to change the theme that was introduced (the background in settings and other places that were changed).so that it looks identical to stock.
Can someone advise me on how to do this? I am guessing it isn't enough to extract the zip file and delete, replace apps and then just to rezip it.
So any help with removing the apps, then adding apps and finally changing it to phone UI and changing the background in settings would be much appreciated.

I think that you need new rom
did you try alliance v1
you can flash it without google and samsung apps, then after installation you can restore every system (samsung/google) apps that you need, this way you can have a rom that suit your needs
also you can flash stock theme from Alliance OTA
and a lot of modification through Alliance control
you cant find better rom
