Please help, i tried to install manila 2.5 from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=542104
and i got an error message that said "this update cant be used with this pda device, please check your update utility"
What does that mean? why cant i upgrade
I think you may want to post in the link that you are referring to. I assume this was a Blackstone Manilla so maybe won't work on the Rhodium?
You probably need HSPL. Why are you trying to install a blackstone ROM to Rhodium?
i dont know..i thought that's the rom i needed. all i want it the manila 2.5. how can i get it? i saw another post but when i after downloading the app and extracting it, i then ran it as an administrator, a screen came up with settings and options..at the top it had load rom but i dont know what to load
ive already hacked my phone with hspl
here are some general steps to flash a rom
1. download the appropriate rom (in this case, any sense 2.5 rom for RHODIUM)
2. connect your phone via activesync
3. extract the file you download to any folder on your computer
4. run customruu.exe
5. follow instructions on the screen
where can i find an official link for manila 2.5 or 2.6 for rhodium
there are several roms here in the rhodium forum that include manila 2.5, look around and find one you like....thread closed this has nothing to do with rom developement.

i currently have att wm 6.1 rom and trying to change to a cooked rom but my computer wont read the rar file. its a older computer is there a program i gotta download for my computer to read the file thanks
Try Winrar - but to be honest if you need to ask this type of question I'd suggest you do some more reading before flashing. Start with the Wiki and don't even think about flashing without HardSPL.
I have been trying different roms to try to upgrade my phone to WM6.5 and so far the roms I've tried won't even load onto my phone. The download status bar will come up but it goes nowhere then it says update error. The phone will turn back on and work with the stock WM6.1
I'm just looking for a very clean OEM style WM6.5 ROM. Any recommendations?

Have you read the Dummies Guide? If not, you should do this. Just try some roms to see what fits better to your needs.
Assuming you hardspl or setup for USPL prior to flashing any ROM's. I have the 8285 and run the following ROM's: NRG LEO, PDAVIET LEO, and MIRI's LEO based ROM's. I personally keep going back to NRG as I have followed him from other devices and like his work. All the cooks are great. I also flash from SD card vs. using Activesync, find it faster and more reliable.
NRG is clean and mostly bug free ? yea from what you're saying maybe I did do something wrong. I'm not too advanced on this, I downloaded the energy rom and tried to update it. I've done nothing previous

well then that's why you're having problems for sure. as others have mentioned follow the Dummies Flashing Guide. if you're using HardSPL, make sure the top (RED) section of your bootloader looks like this Pic of Bootloader with HardSPL. when it looks like this, you're ready to flash a ROM!!
OK I found the 156OliNex.zip file. I put the phone into bootloader mode, when I tried to launch the file it would not execute. It flashes up on the screen for a second and that's it. I made sure that the windows firewall is turned off
Best, the least error, safest flashing tool USPL
i highly recommend you use USPL : I still yet have to see someone who had a problem after using USPL. This is even endorsed by Dutty Throy (you can see that he even states that this is the SAFEST METHOD) - Moderator ROM Cooker par excellence!
look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377
and here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462347
format your sd card using fat32 (full format) (if you are a frequent flasher I suggest you get a small capacity sd card – 1Gb - and devote this only for flashing)
rename the RUU_signed.nbh to BLACIMG.nbh and pair this with ROMUpdateUtility -(application file). copy this two files in you formatted sd card.
then using Digital Outcast's USPL GUI: look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508361
if you're using Vista see this to update your sync driver
http://www.modaco.com/content/windo...u-on-vista-it-can-be-done-the-ultimate-guide/
flash the ROM.
please let me know once you've done this succesfully, i wish you the best of luck!

You need to start posting in the Dummies Flashing Guide as posted above as this thread will be closed as soon as a mod comes across it. You'll find all your answers and help there

do you have .Net installed on your PC? if not, you need to install first. if you have .Net installed, retrace your steps to make sure you've got everything setup properly, e.g., installing the driver supplied in the thread. also, if you have problems please post your questions in the Dummies thread...the moderators will close threads like this one because "all" the info you need to flash can be accessed from the Dummies thread.
yes I have NET installed on my computer. I tried using the files in the dummies guide and had issues
OK. so I finally got the NRG energy rom installed and it shows up distorted on the screen.

if you're using a WM 6.5 ROM then you do not have the right SPL installed.... look at Post #5 and make sure your bootloader looks like the one in my picture; if it doesn't then you haven't installed SPL 1.56 Olinex. again, please post your questions in the Dummies thread, you'll get appropriate help there... thanks!
I want to thank everyone for their input. I finally got a rom installed and working properly
I just wanted to thank everyone for their ideas and input. I finally got a rom installed and working on my phone
glad to know you were successful! we've all been there before and i know it can be frustrating. patience, diligence and patience (lol) will get you there!

I ram Hard spl and then wat should i do and how should i install the coustom rom after it
Easy
I had the exact same problem when i first started to flash htc opal... didn't know how to do it, and didn't know what rom to use... maybe someone should create a complete, step by step guide (flashing opal for dummies) and post it as sticky...
ok, here it goes...
Flashing:
0.- if you'll be using a cooked rom (a modified Rom), you'll need to do a hardSPL. check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446446
1.- Make sure that you have activesync if you are using windows xp or windows device manager if you are using windows vista and the latest version of .net framework installed on your pc.
2.- unzip the new rom files on a folder somewhere accesible (desktop for example)
3.- connect the device as an activesync conection, make sure the battery is charged 50% or more
4.- just run the RUU installer (Rom Update Utility), sometimes named CustomRUU.
5.- Follow the onscreen instructions.
YOU ARE DONE.
that's it... no complications, no special drivers, no weird commands or files to copy and paste. so simple. Just one thing: make sure you don't disconect usb during rom update.
so, resumed: Download Rom, Connect activesync, run RUU, done.
About what's the best 6.5 rom: PhamQuang. check for the latest on the rom development section. but different users will recommend different roms, so i'll recommend to try several before sticking to a particular one.
Ran Hard spl and then wat should i do to install the custom Rom
I dont know if iam posting in the right area, this thread may be posted but i couldnt find it! I'm a noob user to X1 someone plz help me to with upgrading WM 6.1 to WM 6.5 so i can get "Touch-IT_BT_23541_2.1" on my phone. I have been tried to flash this rom to my phone for like 2 days now but it keep getting stuck at the loading screen (the screen after the tricolour screen)!
Thx n sorry if i posted in the wrong area and sorry about if this post already posted!
Read the stickies, and hardSPL before flash
ok thx but do i need to upggrade to wm 6.5 to flash that rom to my phone?
hardSPL will make yoou able to flash a wm6.5 ROM.
And as I said, read the stickies:
1. How To Backup Your Stock Rom
2. How To Install HARD_SPL (So that you can install custom roms)
3. How To Install A Custom Rom
4. How To Install The Stock Rom (For Warranty Reasons)
5. How To Install STOCK_SPL (Final Part For Warranty Reasons)
I did it like this:
1. Install Hard_SPL.
2. Download a different rom, unrar it and run the RUU (RomUpdateUtility).
ok, the stickies and guides at the top of each forum exist for a reason.....so queries like yours can be answered without having to create more threads. Please post your queries in the existing threads (stickies)

Yes it is possible I use it on my Blackstone without any problems.
Only thing you need think about is to download the one without anythings from HD2 and to download a radio for Blackstone.

"Just unzip and run task29.exe . You may replace ruu_signed.nbh with the radio of your choice."
If i understand the first post of the thread right, you have to exchange the supplied "ruu_signed.nbh" with a blackstone radio rom, as mentioned above.

you mean to say, you've used the Task 29 in the Leo/HD2 Thread and paired it with
a Blackstone radio and flashed this in the Blackstone?
and it all went well? how can one be certain that it has indeed formatted
the ROM partition of the Blackstones drive?

I guess the test would be to run it and let the phone boot up after. If there is no rom there will be nothing to boot into.
One can also use a splash.nbh file together with the Task29. It should be quicker as the file is smaller than a radio file.
ok, done some search and here are some good news
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5887613&postcount=81
nice
think i am gonna try it to see if it makes a difference
edit: performing it now will report if it will boot when its finished
edit2: the phone is defiently empty
i only see the samrt mobility screen
the red numbers in the right corner arent there either
gonna flahs a testrrom to see if it will work again
edit3: well it feels slightly faster but could be placebo
CONFIRMED: Task 29 Hex edited from HD2 thread
Task 29 from Leo thread:
Positively confirmed TO WORK for the Blackstone
but i have to install HSPL Olinex first
here are the steps i've done
1. made a folder and put together task 29 and added the .nbh file of Dutty
3.9xt (could be any ROM) note: i tried to pair it with a radio
.nbh file of Radio 1.17 but the process hit an error code while trying to run
task 29.
2. connected phone (using XP) then run task 29 exe file
3. when it finished (a long time) it booted but without the red numbers and
words on the lower right hand side - this is a confirmation that the device
has been formatted
4. made another folder with two files (DUtty 3.9XT .nbh file and the RUU)
5. run RUU (HSPL Olinex already installed previously) and the whole thing
worked
so im back with my FIRST EVER custom ROM for my old Blackstone
(got the HD2 now with TOpix 1.5.7
here is the Task 29 .exe file (use the first one, NOT ShaDrac's)
