Market Disappeared [FIXED] - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Oye this isn't good, after some flashing and backups, my Market Application actually disappeared on my phone and it says it is not installed. I am not sure how to get it back as I already used 2 of my previous Backups. Hope someone has a clue.

did you flash the htc recovery image before you flashed cyanogen?

Yes I did, I had Market, I did a specific market dalvik-cache wipe from Cyanogen's troubleshoot page on his wiki. I guess my phone didn't register that until I did a backup (w. ext) and now it disappeared.

I had this same exact issue with my gmail apk it was gone ! I update cyan rom but when I updg I notice gmail apk went missing I asked help all said wipe and flash again I had no success tried pretty much everything I even used dreaimg got it back and update back to cyan rom latest at the time. And still had no hope so I switch roms went to dwangs then from there superD and all was back to normal

I fixed it with a wipe, flash the defanged base, then newest cyan ROM. Problem solved =]

Why flash from Amon RA 1.6.2 to 1.7?

I'm using CM 5.0.5.3 with apps2sd working great and I'm on AR 1.6.2.
What would be the benefit of flashing over that with 1.7? Would I screw anything up?
I assume I use the CM version rather than the "Normal" version but what if I want to try out enomther (my battery life sucks on 5.0.5.3)?
Thanks for the help!
no real reason.. i`m using Rom Manager.. makes things ALOT easier.. try it.. it's on the market
Flashing to an updated Recovery will not mess with the ROM... neither will flashing an updated Radio. The benefit is just that you'll have whatever extra functionality Amon_RA has built into the new version.

Same here...I can do all the same things it just makes it simpler...not to mention I'm lazy
to get support for the ap2d feature in CM 5.0.3
if you tried to wipe your partition it won't work. Also, if you tired to re flash your rom, that part becomes inaccessible and the a2sd feature will be grayed out
Well, I installed ROM Manager and now have the ClockworkMod Recovery installed. It gives me the option to download other non-Cyanogen Roms. I was under the impression that meant I had to wipe everything, Backup with nandroid and Titanium and Install everything fresh. Will the world explode if I install another different ROM from within ROM Manager or will it just not work properly (lots of FC)?

a boot loop is the most likely occurrence.
You don't need the "cyan" version either. "Normal" is the same code wise...... I was under same false impression when it was first released.
Clockwork seems lovely but I have had few problems with it. One nand got all screwed up this week that broke my confidence. Amon_RA until Clockwork can be ironed out is what I would suggest (personal preference for all).
tried g-script
i tried the g-script per some other post off another android site and it was a no go. anytips, I do like the rom manager recovery mode although i do need to update my bootloader and my recovery rom.

Congratulations for digging up a dead thread and bringing it back to life.
Amon RA is at 2.x now.

[Q] Cyanogen 6.0 problem? plz help.

Hi everyone. I just recently flashed the new 6.0 froyo cyanogen and its amazing. At first, when I flashed it I had 2 problems.
1. No Market app
2. I didn't get a setup screen for my gmail.
That problem I fixed by downloading and flashing the google apps zip thing.
Now, there's a new problem.
1. Market continues to say "connection failed, retry or cancel" for everthing I try to download. I press on and download.
2. I basically cannot download anything at all.
3. Youtube as well isn't working... I get the same thing as the market.
I did see a google chrome apk in a cyanogenmod website, it said it would help? I don't remember with what though.
Do I need SDK in order to use apps?
- Thanks.
Did you flash the correct google apps? It schould be named gapps-mdpi-FRF91-3-signed.zip.
Did you wipe before flashing?
What version of CM6 did you flash? If it was a nightly, try another one ore RC2.

Yes, thats the name of the Google apps i flashed. The name of the cyanogen rom i flashed is -
update-cm-6.0.0-DS-RC2-signed
I tried flashing everything once more on my rooted G1.
This time i flashed DangerSPL. It was probably the reason it didnt work. I will post back if it works.

[Q] Bricked HTC Hero???

I have a HTC Hero (Sprint) that I rooted and all was fine. I downloaded a font changer app and used it once and it worked. When I went to change the font again I got the white screen with "HTC" on it and it was frozen. I tried to restore using Nandroid but then the startup screen keeps rebooting. It will do the animation and then start over and over. I tried to do a factory reset but nothing. Can I salvage my Hero? I am pretty new rooting. I used Z4root to do it.
Remove the battery, put it back in, hold down the home button while booting up and see if you can get to recovery. Once in recovery, wipe cache/dalvik cache and reboot. If it does not work, you may need to reflash your ROM after a full wipe.
I can get into recovery and i went ahead and wiped cache but still having the issue with it looping the start up screen. How do I reflash my ROM. Sorry I am still new to this.
What ROM were you using...?
I had the phone running the 2.1 ROM from Sprint. All I have done to the phone is root it, installed ROM Manager and Titanium Backup, and deleted the Nascar app. I haven't installed a custom ROM or anything
Install this custom ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755795
Wipe EVERYTHING
Flash the ROM
Flash Google APPS http://goo-inside.me/google-apps/gapps-mdpi-20101020-signed.zip
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Reboot & Win

Oh ok, then... it's pretty simple. Download the RUU (HTC or links provided on the wiki and run it from your computer. You will have to re-root it, as once you run the RUU, the phone will be reset to how it was when you got it from Sprint. The easiest to root, as per me, was the .5 version... you can find the links on the wiki.
Thank you I will try and let you know how it goes. I hope it works or my wife is going to kill me since I got my Hero 6 months ago...

I'd recommend this after he tries the custom ROM if it doesn't work, because he has recovery access
At least the way I suggested he keeps root since CM6 is already rooted
I tried to run "RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.29.651.1_signed_release" but I got a bootloader error. Do I need to try a different RUU?
I am downloading the 2.1 update from HTC to see if that one works, if not I think I will try CraigCraig suggestion.
I was able to get the 2.1 HTC update to work...i am back to being stock. Thank you for all the help and in the future i'll reroot and get a custom ROM. You guys are awesome
Glad that it is working fine... Enjoy! Reroot and use a custom ROM - CM highly recommended . You will love how the phone responds...

New recovery 3.0.0.5

Can this new recovery be used to flash CyanogenMod 6.1.1??? I just got the new recovery update on rom manager and was going to flash cyanogenmod 6.1.1 and just checking. I thought the new recovery was for flashing Gingerbread roms?? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Vinny
I don't see why not. You can try and if it don't work you can flash an older version in ROM Manager

I am not sure about that. But one thing for sure is it is not good for MM's CM7. I have loop-reboot problem with this. I cannot even restore to any custom roms except my froyo stock. :-( Now, I have to downgrade to 2.5.x.x to see if my custom roms work again.
See development section.
EDIT: I successfully restore other custom roms using lower version of Clockworkmod. But the loop-reboot problem of MM's CM7 remains the same.
I guess I won't find out until I try. Newly rooted and going to give CyanogenMod a try. Know I am going to be happy as hell with it.
Thanks
The new recovery should be fine with flashing any roms. As for any standing problems with it, im am uncertain. You may want to wait 2 weeks or so to see if their are any problems from people using it. Personally I like Amon ra so i cant say.

A full wipe is necessary to upgrade to gingerbread roms from any lower android versions. Did u full wipe? + Dalvik cache wipe?

Yes. I did full wipe on everything. I even fix permission. No luck at all.

I used it to flash and install tonight's build successfully...
I have a "side question".
To flash any GingerBread flavor, do we need 3.x.x.x ou 2.5.x.x is working?
I haven't give CM7 a try yet, but I'm not sure if I need/want to upgrade to 3.x.x.x, 2.5.1.4 work well for me.

I got it too. No more crazy rebooting. I solve it by reformatting my SD card and recreating ext3. I guess 3.0.0.5 recovery messed up my ext3 partition. Now, MM CM14 is working pretty well. FYI, I am using 2.5.1.4 recovery.
Yeah it was working good till I try to do a restore, lets just say I;m up all night trying to restore my phone. I think my EXT partition messed up too as DTa2sd is giving me all kinda of headache.
doesn't work with MIUI for me!
don't understand that, but luckily its not a big deal flashing older versions!

I hear you there! That was me last night! DON'T USE 3.0.0.5! The only fix I found to actually work was to completely format my SD card and then re-partition it, then use RA and a fresh install. What a pain in the arse!
Same thing here. Switched to 3.0.0.5, and the next thing, my ext was fried and I had to reformat the entire card. Could be coincidence, but...

[Q] moving from froyomod to cm7, everything is deleted?

will i lose all settings, files, apps?
is there a way to keep everything and change rom?
I would say it is good practice to do full wipe when switching to different ROM generation.
Once you are on CM7 upgrading to never version is OK with just caches cleanup.
In your case I would use TitaniumBackup or any similar app to backup all the apps. In theory you could try to restore the app data but may not work properly. Use as much as possible backup/recovery build in the apps.
BTW consider app2ext - I do not known if such a feature is available in FM - search the forum how to create separated partition on your SD card
well i gave it a try.
updated OR, did all 3 wipes, installed the latest CM7 and rebooted.
i just got the M sign no matter what i did.
had to nandroid back to my latest backup.
never had that in any froyo mod.
is it hopeless?
should i try again?
When you wipe, go into the partitions menu and format boot and system too.
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
how exactly?
didn't find it in the OR menus.
Don't do that!
There's no data of /boot in CM7 packages!
Switching from Stock 2.2.1 to CM7 worked flawlessly for me back then.
Try downloading the CM7 .zip again, apply it and do all 3 wipes afterwards.
tried again, like you said.
didnt work. back to froyo.
bummer.
ok, tried the HO NO mod of this rom and its working!
looking great. thanks for your help.
this HO NO is a version of the original CM7. meaning if there are future updates to the original CM7 i will be able to update, correct?
i wont have to necessarily wait for a "HO NO" version?
It's not that easy.
HO!NO! is a CM7 mod - that's right.
But if you mix updates from both HO!NO! and CM7 you will very likely end up with the M-screen or bootloops again.
Usually it's like this:
Update the ROM you're on: flash zip, wipe caches
Change to a different ROM: flash zip, wipe everything
