.. to remove personal data and sell it for spares ?
As I understand there is nothing like an SD card inside, is it embedded to the motherboard somewhere ?

Mine is not covered by the warranty (hard floor impact ) and the price quoted for the MB replacement is more than they ask for a used Diamond-2 in excellent condition on eBay.
I will probably have to break it apart and sell screen, battery etc. separately destroying the motherboard .. do not want anyone accessing my personal details, could cost more than what I can get for the whole broken phone ...
Anyone needs a replacement screen ?
Need the screen
Hi. I actually do need the screen, got HTC Diamond as a gift, does turn on, I can hear the sounds but no picture. I am guessing I need the new screen. I would need that screen.

hi, i bought a new lcd for my tytn II, can you tell me how to change it? i can't open the case...
You will break warranty on phone doing it youreself, if you dont have that kinda insurance (hard to claim on theese issues) you should talk to nearest el. shop, but remeber they are prolly not HTC experts. Best thing is to goto provider and talk to them, otherwise check this how to pick youre device apart

Yeh it is dead expensive, I got an extra warranty on my device, costed me additional 250$ But if I drop the phone to the floor and it breaks I get a new one same day, and whit my handling... Its cheap. Just ie. changing a lcd cost 390$ over here, you prolly can get it cheaper somewhere though. But then again everything is expensive in Norway hehe, device itself new lays around 800-1000$ boxed, some even take more! so doing it youreself is a real moneysaver for sure.
Good luck, hope everything works out for you

Hey, I'm curious to know if anyone knows where to get replacement parts for the leo. I recently fell down a flight of stair and destroyed everything to do with my leo's outsides. The screen is trashed, and the case it bent. So, I need to replace it all. Any information would be greatly appreciate.
Thanks in advance.

When in doubt, contact HTC (And doubt some more)
It's been a few days since I first started this thread. Lots of views but no replies. So... I wrote HTC about it (on their website) and their response was quite unbelievably stupid.
I mentioned that I live in China, and that I'd like to know how I could have it repaired. I put in the serial number as well. They replied by telling me that my phone was sold in France and that I should go back to France to get it repaired, otherwise I can go to Hong Kong or Taiwan to get it repaired.
I am really curious what kind of person would write such a silly reply. As though plane tickets cost the same as cab rides, and the flight is only a hop and a skip away.
I've written them back and clarified the kind of help I am looking for (An address to send my phone to, and a quote for parts and labour) here's hoping they don't misinterpret it again and send me more bs.
Not much point to my writing this other than to say, if you need to contact HTC with a similar query, assume you're writing to an idiot and be as absolutely clear as you can. You may even want to suggest to them what is common sense, and not assume that they're going to think of the most reasonable method themselves.

Hi,
Sorry to hear of your accident.
If your phone is that badly damaged why don't you just claim off your phone or house insurance and get a new one? Sounds like this is much less hassle than trying to get it repaired.
I am assuming you have some form of insurance for the phone?

Or send it to HTC repair. I heard it will cost like €150 to repair.
Have a nearly same question.
My HD2 screen one day have a big black dot at the center. I give my HD2 to the local HTC service, they answer me that, they cannot give me a warranty because it's broken by pressing from outside into a screen.
So, if replace a screen will cost about 230USD.
I take my HD2, come home, search on eBay for the screen replacement. It cost only 80USD. Maybe it's a solution for you too.
Hi,
where did you get the replacement screen for $80?
Thanks.

I've had the same problem too a couple of times. Fortunately both times the dot disappeared after pressing the screen gently in various places. What's disturbing, though, is that I've had the phone for a week only and gone to great lengths to ensure it has not been under any physical pressure (or psychological, for that matter ). Have anyone else noticed this; is this a weakness with the phone or have I just been unlucky?
u should take it to htc service !
I've just dropped mine and accidentally closed a door on it, so now mine is full of scratches too.
I'll take it back to the service center in Taiwan when I get back there, though rather annoyingly that won't be until March at the earliest If the HK service center can do it though, I can drop it in there in Feb ... I wonder if their pricing will be the same ...
Hey guys I dropped my HD2 too and the screen cracked. I noticed that there are repair kits at around 80 USD. Anyone has any video or tutorial on how to replace the screen with the repair kit? Or has anyone self-repaired the screen successfully?
I'll have the chance to either get a new HD2 (and sell the broken one), the Hero or perhaps the Nexus One so I want to see if it is possible to do a cheap fix and get a new toy.

Maybe.
If you don't mind facing a ***VERY*** high chance of getting ripped off by someone selling you THEIR bricked mainboard.
If you want a surefire way to fix it, I suggest you read everything in this thread before going out and getting yourself ripped off: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591048
yeah it can be risky..i fixed my friends by replacing it with one i found on craigslist for like 40 bucks. It turned on but had an unresponsive touch screen but from the looks of the housing, it seemed like they tried to change it which may have been the reason. Luckily there was nothing wrong with the motherboard and it worked.
Buy a j-tag and un-brick your current board.
As linked above by lbcoder: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591048
No no
Thanks everyone for your replies. The board I'm buying is good, it's new not from another phone, I just wanted to make sure that it's the motherboard that needs to be changed not some other piece like the daughter-board or whatever.
It's definitely the motherboard if you're hard bricked. If it's not too late, I'd suggest trying craigslist or something along those lines. You might find a phone with a cracked screen for around the same price as the motherboard. Extra pieces and a nifty little battery charger that resembles a working G1.
..
I'm from romania, there's nothing on craig's list. Thanks for assuring me that it's the motherboard.

How do you know its good? Because they SAY so? It may shock you to find out, but most people selling stuff on ebay LIE ABOUT IT!

dude g1's are 99$ without a contract brand new just go buy a new one....
Hi there,
Here is my story :
First of all, i bought a HTC One M8, one day was very rainy and my HTC M8 was in my pocket, i was very wet and the humidity goes on my M8.
Ok after that arriving home, i saw my screen black, no more backlight, then the backlight screen flashed i was thinking it come back but no never came back.
I sent my HTC (under warranty) to HTC.
They said it's not under warranty cause it's water damage...
I was very angry about that, cause my phone was just in my pocket.. They propose me to pay 600 USD to repair the phone, i said no i don't want to pay the cost of the phone just to repair it.
They send it back to me, i ordered a replacement screen on a very known website for 100 USD with all the tools, i changed it, charged the phone and, started the phone, and backlight is always black, i can see the picture through sun but the backlight don't work !!
Can someone explain me where is the Backlight on this phone ?? Is it a mainboard problem ?? It can't be the screen...
What can cause no backlight on a M8 screen ? i already replaced the screen but seems to be the same.... what do you guys think ?

anything could be wrong with a water damaged phone it could be motherboard it could be the socket the screen plugs into.
you could have messed up installing the replacement ?
any way it goes your most likely going to need another phone

I saw an ad for a broken One m7 and the guy says he dropped it and the screen is dead, so I was thinking I could replace the screen and make a buck. but before I do I wanted to ask a question... He says when he starts the phone some lights go on and the screen stays black, on my m7 it vibrates and starts up without any lights. could this be a sign that there is more damage than just the screen and digitizer?
Thanks

Honestly, if you are asking questions like this you should not buy a broken phone. Only buy if you are sure you can repair it and know what is damaged exactly.
The M7 can be found for less than 250$ New on ebay btw. not sure you'll make any profit after paying for the phone, the replacement parts and the time to fix it. There are also some risks when opening that phone, many member here sucessfully repaired the M7 themselves and other damaged the phone when opening it, even if they did it very delicately.
Imo doesn't worth it.
But still worth to buy one for 250$ if you want to have one for yourself.

If I buy it it'll be for $60, that's why it's so tempting. but I will definitely put a lot of thought into it before I jump on it.
Remember if you are going to repair it properly, you'd probably want to buy a screen assembly + housing. Its almost impossible not to damage the phone when you open it.

60$ for a broken phone + 50$ for a screen assy + 15$ for a new housing (almost always damaged when opening like said) = 125$ + parts shipping, So lets say 150$ total and you are still not 100% sure it will work and won't have other issue like the infamous bad (purple) camera (25$)" Phone is used and will probably need a new battery, another 15-20$.
So at least 150$ + your time and still not sure it will work (might not be a broken screen, maybe a broken mother board), you might damage other parts when attempting to repair like the tiny flex cables. add an extra 75$ and you can get a brand new and carrier unlocked M7.
I'm glad I asked before going a head with it, thanks guys.
