App to force gmail sync/check mail - G1 Apps and Games

I have always had inconsistent push notifications for gmail and wondered if there was an app i could put on my home screen which would force a gmail sync?...As of now, I have to open gmail, hit menu and refresh whenever I suspect my push notifications have stopped...

better cut -> activity -> data sync. That will take you to the main settings menu where you would just have to toggle the check box and it will force a sync.

im pretty sure the free cersion of wisync plus has this too

Different alerts?

Is there a way to setup an mp3 for email and another one for SMS?
yea of course! you set the notification in the specific app. so to set email, go to the email app, hit menu and go to settings and change it. same for sms/mms. open up the text app, then go to menu and settings and you can change it there. this is how you set notifications for any app in android if they have notification options.
I could not find this setting in k-9.

Why do I have 2 different mail notifications?

I am not sure what is going on here.
Firstly, I use GMAIL as my email account.
I have on my home screen the icon for my mail. However, in the top left hand corner of my home screen is the @ symbol and it tells me I have 100+ email messages, but when I look at my actual email icon on the home screen, there is no notification of any new emails.
When I drag down the @ symbol from the top left hand corner of my screen to look at the 100+ emails, it shows me my inbox, but there are no new messages, just the messages I have already checked and read.
Is their a way to eliminate the @ symbol notification system and only use the widget on the home screen to inform me of new incoming messages real time?
Thank you,
Whiteice
The notification with @ is from Gmail app. the shortcut on your homescreen is from HTCmail.
So if you get a notification like @ then open Gmail app. then you will see your mails.
you can disable this notification in the settings for Gmail.
Also try to manually synchronize your gmail application : use the menu button to refresh or go to the setup to disable the notifications.

[Q] Integrated facebook blocks background task FB app?

Hi all,
Got my 8X few days ago, and I ran into a weird issue. I noticed that the Facebook App notifications weren't working. I did however receive tile count on the Me-tile. I had a look in settings and I noticed that the background task for facebook app was blocked. The "turn on background back on for this app next time I open it" was checked, by even after starting app, or restarting phone, and starting app the task was still blocked.
After re-installing the facebook app the task got the allowed status. Everything worked, counts on tile and lockscreen, lockscreen photo background, etc... But then I noticed Facebook account in Settings/E-mail+accounts had 'not up to date' status. When I clicked 'show password' I got ******* instead of my password. Correcting the password and updating the account resulted in facebook app background task being blocked again.
I hope I'm making sense here... Anyone can reproduce this or is it only me?
Thank you in advance,
Grtz
Lukas
I too noticed that Facebook was blocked as a background task, but, my push notifications have worked perfectly despite it being blocked.
I decided to uninstall and re-install it to see if I could get it unblocked like you have, and when i check the background tasks settings, Facebook is no longer listed there. Keep in mind that background tasks do not control push notifications. Push notifications and background tasks are separate features of the phone. You can have push notifications running, and not have background tasks.
I assume Facebook uses background tasks to change the lockscreen wallpaper (if you enable this), and that's about it. Background tasks specifically allow a very limited set of operations for a specific amount of time at specific intervals of time. They can only do what the Windows Phone 8 SDK allows them to do, which is not a whole lot, but usually just enough to make it seem like your application is always doing something in the background.
Thnx for your reply prjkthack.
I was wrong in assuming this was an issue, and your post pushed me in the right direction.
I think it's like this:
1. no background task: fb app not installed, or installed but no lockscreen settings configured ("not now" while in the startup wizard)
2. blocked background task: you've used the lockscreen fb background, but switched that off, and are currently using another lockscreen. That's why the task is blocked.
3. allowed background task: you are using the fb wallpaper on your lockscreen.
Thank you for clarifying that background task have nothing to do with push. Did not realise that.
Thnx,
Lukas

[Q] push notification settings

how can i adjust push notification settings for different apps like facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. For instance, i want have the notifications pushed for twitter and facebook but not for instagram. I couldn't find where to arrange this setting.
Settings --> Apps --> Press the app you want --> Show notifications.
You can turn them off here per app , this setting is on by default.
Kind regards, Stefan.

Click to collapse
my main purpose of doing this is to save battery life. I don't want facebook or instagram to push constantly on the background. Does the setting you mentioned just stop showing notifications or it really stops apps to push?

Question Gmail app will not show notifications

Hi all,
I'm having to resort to posting here before I pull all of my hair out.
I'm running stock MIUI 13(.0.10). In the Gmail app, my account settings have notifications set to 'all'. The 'manage notifications' button that brings up the system settings has notifications enabled (sound, vibrate on). Sync is set to last 30 days, and enabled. General settings > manage notifications has everything enabled through the system settings as well. Apps > Gmail > Battery Saver is set to no restrictions.
What am I missing? It's not that it's not alerting to notifications but they still appear, they are just not present at all. I manage multiple inboxes through my primary Gmail account, and this is hugely annoying.
