change orange uk to Aussie 3 network - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile ROM Development

How can I change my HTC Touch pro 2 phone from it's designated orange UK network to the Aussie 3 Network so that I can access my3 and 3 planet apps.
The phone does work ok with the Aussie 3 sim card.
Will I need to update the Rom or upgrade the firmware ?
If yes where can I find the downloads to do this ?
I'm a bit of a novice so if you can keep the info in simple terms please
cheers

the problem you have is that 3 don't sell the TP2, so support from them will be limited/non-existent. Are 'my3' and accessed via the web browser or are they icons you click on?

That wouldnt be necessery as the handset is already unlocked.
Firstly i would install Hard SPL
Secondly i would start looking for either a standard HTC ROM or Custom ROM to remove the Orange branding, this should make things easier. With 3 AUS not selling the TP2 getting into my 3 may be awquard and i cannot help you there.

AFAIK you can access it via the browser, i know that my Orange UK stuff is accessible via the browser so i dont see why it should be an issue on 3, especially when in the UK a lot of GSM handsets are connected on 3 and can access everything.

Nope that aint true, all I did was call 3 and customer service will put you through to the internet tech support people. I told them I have a TP2, and they sent me all the settings by sms so I can use my 2 gig data plan, surf the my3 website, send and receive mms. If this doesnt work for whatever reason, pm me and I'll try get the settings for you.
As a side note, 3's data plans dont include free use of skype and msn messenger for the TP2 because the phone wont support it :S

How does the phone not support it? Palringo is a mutli-protocol IM client I use with the TP2. I also used it with my old Hermes. It does MSN, AIM, ICQ, and a ton of others. Also, there is a Skype application for Windows Mobile that is made by Skype, Inc. You can download it via their website at www.skype.com. And Palringo at www.palringo.com.

Many of these providers have 'custom' apps that they imbed into their shipped ROMS. As there is no shipped ROM from 3 AUS for the TP2, you might be pushing **** up hill. Of course they will support the device as a handset as it runs all the right frequencies etc. There's probably a proxy involved as well - that's how Telstra do it anyway for their apps like Foxtel.

That is true of what seems to be all providers with regards to the custom embedded apps, but to say that it isn't compatible with a program, is going a bit far. As for the proxy, AT&T here in the US uses one too, if I remember correctly.

What I meant was, on my 2 gig data plan, if I was to use a nokia phone for example, the data used for communicating with msn messenger and skype is not taken from the 2 gigs because there is unlimited free use of it since 3 have their own software which the user must download off their websites. There isnt such software available for windows mobile from 3, so data use for skype and msn on a win mob phone would take away from the 2 gig plan.
This is rediculous! It should be included, how hard is it for them to make a win mob version for their customers, the operating systems shouldn't affect compatability.

sorry, I wasn't saying the handset isn't compatible, but rather that it might be difficult to get what is required from the network provider, esp if it is an app.
hopefully carpkernel will be able to get to what he needs through a browser, thus removing the need for any custom telco provided app.

Ah yeah. T-Mobile in the US has a similar thing. The IM app they use, uses your text messaging as opposed to data. Thank goodness here we have unlimited data, so no need to worry about limits.

"Reasonable price" are two words that cannot be used in a sentence to describe Aussie carries for data plans. We dont even have unlimited internet plans for HOME cable and adsl 2, without the provider capping our speeds after reaching 60 gigs on most plans... how backwards are we.

lol I know. Two words that are practically unheard of for Oz. My buddy in Brisbane and another in Adelaide both have the same issues.

The free minutes that 3 (Aus) provide are only available if you use their custom skype client which uses a dialup-gateway for access to skype network.
EDIT: I did post a whole lot of info about using iSkoot to connect to 3skype but it seems that 3 have now thwarted that so it is hopeless. You can (apparently) still use one of the java clients intended for other phones but I cannot confirm this (the old LG Shine jad I have doesn't run on my JBlend java and even if it did it would suck without any touch support or D-pad)

Thanks for your help everyone all sorted...Found the info on the Aussie 3 website. Not exactly the easiest info to find on their site but its just a simple case of putting in your mobile number on the 3 site and they supply a code. They send you a message and you type in the code and the settings are changed Automatically. Planet 3 settings are also sent to the phone so that I can use my pre paid plan. For anyone who has had the same problem cut and paste the link http://www.three.com.au/care and follow the instructions. Thanks again much appreciated.

glad it worked out for you

Thanks for posting that info, am on the 3 network too and this worked for me.
Just received my Touch Pro 2 today from an Australian online store, but I note phone has a Singapore 240V adapter and am downloading the WM 6.5 upgrade from the Singapore section of HTC after punching in the SN. Won't let me download the WM 6.5 upgrade from the Aussie Download area.
I must admit with this non aussie ROM the reception is better than my old touch pro. Carpkernel do you have access to the aussie WM 6.5 upgrade via your SN on the HTC website?

Kasier On US T-mobile

Hi, I am new to this forum.
I have a question, I just got my Kasier a weeks ago.... before I have a T-Mobile Wing
I try to set up my phone to use the T-Zone
I can get it work, but I cannot get the IM thing working though the T-Zone.
I do install the Agile Messenger & IM+ both of them only can use it on the wifi when i at home...... any way i can use those program when i use t-zone?
I only pay 5 dollars per month......for the T-zone.
ANy info or suggestion will be help.....
As far as I know, T-zones only allows you to use certain ports. Now the IM client might be using other ports that are blocked. For more information on what ports are enabled or not, go here: http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/T-Mobile_Data
- TKN
If you want to use AIM, in IM+ change the AIM port to 110. Then IM+ should work over T-Zones.

Vodafone Live! working on Diamond

1) Put your Vodafone SIM card in your Diamond.
2) Let the Connection Settings Wizard set up your connections.
3) Install the attached .cab file
4) Make sure you're connected via the "Contract WAP" connection
5) Using Pocket Internet Explorer, go to http://live.vodafone.com
If you want to use Mobile TV, you should also change the settings in your Streaming Media Player's menu so that it also uses the "Contract WAP" connection.
This cab makes websites think you are using a Nokia N95 when browsing with Pocket Internet Explorer. If for any reason this is messing up the rendering of some of your other favourite websites, you can go back to the default pIE settings by removing this installation using "Add/Remove Programs" on your Diamond...
does this mess up with our dutch unlimited internet acces?
Nope, doesn't change any of your connection settings. (Just the browser.dll file, in case you're interested.)

The unlimited en onbezorgd internetten by vodafone(blox) is not unlimited at all !!
I had to pay 400 euro when I downloaded 4 GB
Didn't know that this was again an issue. Found the .cab with in the polaris thread and it just went fine. Only problem is still using opera with vodafone live.
Thank you very much sub69, it works perfectly!
Does this work for french vodafone live ?
we really need something similar but working with Opera 9.5
For configuring user agent in opera
try this
Code:
1- open opera
2- type about:opera
3- go to user agent setting and modify the value (1 by default) by 5
for me it works for internet.

Normally they have to inform you you use abnormally more then normal people before charging. It's in their 'algemene voorwaarden'
I had a bill of 1000 EURO, because I was using wrong APN (vodafone fault, with old push-mail account, custormer service didn't see that and said to set up via office.vodafone.nl).
Vodafone has done me a full refund withing 4 weeks. I only call that allright then.
And, 4Gb downloading How you manage that? That's about 135 Mb every day
Opera
For opera i've found how to change the user agent :

Another tip for the diamond :
How to change your user agent with opera 9.5 : go to windows\opera9 and edit the opera.ini file. You will see the user agent of the P3700 that you just have to change by the one you want. Personaly i've changed it by the P3600 user agent to acceed to vodafone france (SFR) but i still can't watch streaming TV from the SFR portail.
This is my file for those who want to test it.

Vodafone uses a fair use policy. Further "onbezorgd internetten" has a maximum of 20MB each month.
Do you have to unpack the 000 file first?
Because my Diamond doesn't see it as a CAB file.. Tried to unpack it with 7-zip and WinRar
is this for vodafone germany?

No more vodafone live since Flashing htc rom
Hi everybody,
i've done with your expertised advice a flashing rom to the official HTC rom HTC_FRA_1.93.406.1_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05
on my HTC diamond Pack SFR Vodafone Live ( FR )
( I have first made a backup with Sprite so i 've succed restoring my personnals parameters after the flash )
As i 'm very satisfy with visual results some problems or questions ar still there :
I ve choose a Illimitics contract on this phone, but with HTC rom , i do not have access anymore on vodafone live ( impossible to connect to this service )
I had an Hangup during trying to create vodafone live adress in internet navigator, i had to pull out my battery to start again. ??
( never hapen on SFR rom version )
Initial Radio version was 1.00.25.03
I dont see any amelioration with 1.00.25.05 ( unless maybe better battery performance ),
i 've found this HTC diamond very poor on signal reception,
my old Sony K800 was better in the same place and conditions.
Some times i don't have any reception in my homeplace, never happen bethore with my last 3 mobiles.
Thanks for support.
L.E.
it work with italian vodafone?
I think it should work if you replace user agent by N95 user agent... If someone know what is the exact UA to put in opera, could it tells us ?
Where does this install to? I cant find it anywhere on my Touch Pro...
ok - it's installed as are the wap connection settings. Does not work

Windows Mobile Equivalent Apps (Equivalent to Symbian S60 V3)

Hello again,
As I mentioned in a previous thread, I’m due to upgrade my handset in the coming weeks from an N95 to the Touch Diamond (MDA Compact 4)... I have some really good apps on the N95 which I rely on a lot. I was wondering if anyone knew of any WM6.1 alternatives to the following apps...
Nokia Internet Radio
http://europe.nokia.com/A4668051
Hundreds of streaming radio stations over WiFi or HSDPA
Shazam ID
http://www.shazam.com/music/portal/page/default/template/pages/p/shazam_id.html
Music track identification - the app records a sample of the track and tells you the name and artist via data connection WiFi or HSDPA.
Nokia Sports Tracker
http://www.nokia.com/A4388200
GPS Tracking of my sports activity (running / cycling etc) routes viewable in google earth via KML file.
Nokia Conversation
http://www.nokia.com/A4568203
View text messages listed by contact as opposed to going to inbox and sent items separately
I've already checked my other key apps:
Shozu
JoikuSpot
Route 66
And they all appear to support HTC devices such as the Cruise and the Kaiser etc, so I should be ok there.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated - not sure if i should of used a different forum for this really.... if a mod feels ti should be moved please go ahead
Garry
1) the original wm 6.1 text messaging shows you both the send and received at the same time and you can also see them while you r typing so you could reply back to the received questions
2) there is also a program for internet radio on the htc, i have used it and it is perfect. it think it is spb radio. check it out
Excellent, thats a good start Thanks!
Anyone have any alternatives to Shazam and Sports Tracker?
Alternative for sportstracker is RUNGPS
Ah sweet! Thanks lappie!!
after some searching i found tthese....theres probably better ones but the results looked promising:

Another nice Symbian application is Nokia's Lifeblog, overall due to its ability to get synchronised with the PC client... Is there any equivalent in the PPC world?

We do a lot of geocaching and having Geocache Navigator installed on the N95 is great (when a phone signal is present of course) to find cache's close by or check on cache details without having to take printed pages along. It will also guide you via a compass and bearing to the Lat Long location of the cache...
Any apps specifically for geocacher's that will interact with the geocahce web site / data base ?
cheers

Another AIM program that uses sms

Hey everyone, I have an ATT Tilt with windows 6.1. I have unlimited txt. I would like to use aim on my tilt, the only thing is that it dosent show all my buddys. Ive been googling for a program to install that still uses SMS and not data. So i came here to see if anyone knows one that is like the Oz one that comes preinstalled.
Thanks Steve
you can download the new aim mobile http://mobile.aol.com/aolproducts/aim-for-windows-mobile or get octrotalk (no visuals, use aim, yahoo, msn). you need a gmail account though to use octrotalk...you can even use gchat on it too. works well and doesnt use to much memory

Not all AOL Mobile services are available on all wireless carriers or on all wireless devices. Check with your wireless carrier to confirm that product use is consistent with your carrier's Terms of Service."
why would you have a phone like this and NOT have data?
he could be like me and used to only have a razr but his lovely gf bought him a kaiser =]
as for the official aim program ,it uses data/wifi. i am also in search for an aim program that uses text instead of data ( data disocnnects too much where i work).

using AT&T links on flashed tilt?

ive searched, and searched and searched, but cant find an answer...
ive got a tilt using a custom rom, and i have an x-tra tilt currently runing the stock rom.
what i would like to know is if its possible to use the CV (Cingular Video) link on the custom rom or the media.net link to check account status and stuff
i can switch the sim card between the units and the CV and medianet work fine on the stock rom, but if i manually type in the url's into the flashed tilt, the links dont work.
i cant imagine im the only one that ever tried to do this, but im at a loss on how to make this work?
any ideas would be appreciated

100+ reads and this is the first i get? well its a start...silly me, i thought ANYONE that has used the AT&T Tilt for more then 5 minutes would of seen the cingular video and media net links...
allow me to clarify...
htc/att winmo 6.1 rom found on the HTC site, version 3.57.502.2, released 08/21/08
Cingular Video:
from the start menu, click on programs, and then click on the cingular video icon. that opens up internet explorer and the link (URL) is http://cingularvideo.cingular.com/ from the HTC/ATT rom the link takes me so i can watch a variety of videos online
MediaNet Home:
from the start menu, click on programs, and then click on the media net home icon. this opens up internet explorer and the link (URL) listed is http://device.home/ from this page i can check weather, phone bill stats and usage of other phones on the family plan.
both of these work on the factory rom, but i havent found a single custom rom where i can type in these links into a browser and they work...

There is a good way to get continued help, whine about no one helping you and then be obnoxious to the first person that tries. I have had a Tilt for 2 years and had no idea what you were talking about. Mostly because ANYONE who has used the AT$T Tilt got rid of all the AT$T " crapware " after about 4 minutes.
The fact that you cannot open it using other roms and the fact that you cannot open it on your PC should tell you that they are proprietary links that are interdependent on other bloatware installed with your AT$T rom.
Unfortunately if you want your bloatware, you will probably have to use a crappy AT$T rom.
yeah sounds like device.home would be something that is installed on the actual phone, so reload the att rom and start digging.
Thank you come again.

Cingular video and Media.net are provided by AT&T are propriatary to AT&T and only work from an AT&T stock rom, and since they both suck; none of the cooks here are going to put it thier roms. The only way to get them is to use the stock rom.
Insted of Media.net use internet explorer and insted of CV use Youtube or Hulu. They work a lot better
Hulu works on the Tilt?
Hulu works by way of skyfire. youtube works via lots of ways now, but I prefer kinoma play - buy it, it's worth it.
As to your original post, I know what you mean. I liked cv video too. I read something about being thru a proxy or whatnot and you had to edit some settings. But the other posters are right, it is att and not really worth the hassle of cooking it or making a cab for it.
Also go get Opera as your browser (if you haven't already) - load a testing version and work with the display options to get just what you want.
These will make your tilt much more usable.
