Hi.
I have a HTC TyTN II and would love to nail down what software I should use, and if any of you pros could help me out I would really appreciate it.
My goal is to run the latest [stable/fast] Windows mobile 6.5 release with the highest functioning Android build on top.
From what i've seen my choice is this ROM: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618767 - ahmedfikry wm6.5 light rom v28217
From the thread it seems there aren't any glaring bugs. This is the latest WM build correct? What is the difference between the 23XXX and 28XXX branches of WM 6.5?
I notice it's a 'light' build which is fine - can you suggest any 'must have' or 'replacement' apps that would improve usability? EG; TouchFLO, a utility to access more settings, a replacement browser[Skyfire/Opera], a utility that automatically closes open programs, program to save battery life - anything like that - I want to avoid 'bloat' like some 'loaded' ROMs have and not have useless duplicate programs, speed and usability is preferred over eye candy [the exception being any great games that run on kaiser ]
Any suggestion on a GPS software that does not require a data plan? I may be limited since i only have a 2GB SD card.
And as far as ANDROID goes I believe i'm looking at the DONUT builds since I want sleep/camera/wifi (don't care about bluetooth) - [is DONUT the build with the most functions?] - which is the 'fastest' / 'lightest' of the DONUT builds that still has the highest amount of features working?
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=587116 - Hero blend?
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=613049 - Tattoo?
I apologize in advance if any of my questions were very nooblike, but thank you for your patience!
Moved as not ROM Development.
Thank you for moving my thread to the appropriate subforum, I had posted in the ROM section as I had assumed that most cooks and those familiar with ROM quirks would be browsing that section and be able to answer the questions I had.
This ties in loosely with what I was going to ask, so I'll reply as well. I just inherited a TyTn II from work, needed constant recalibration so I don't know if it has a hardware or a software fault. Software is easier to fix, I just want to throw on a base package with a good app selection. My ideal is to keep it as fast as it can be.
As I understand it, the Kaiser/TyTn II doesn't have enough grunt to run WiMo 6.5 OR Android 2.1 at an acceptable level. Is this correct? From what I have seen, all the cool stuff doesn't yet work on Android, any version. If I wanted to develop for the project, then I'd put Android on, but I want my phone to "just work"... well, as well as a WiMo phone can.
I'm willing to accept WiMo 6.1, maybe with skinning, etc.. heck it's a free phone, just needs a battery, stylus, and maybe a new digitizer and interpreter board(whatever that bit is called). For me and what I do, I'd be after the following stuff:
video/audio player
SSH/PuTTy type shell access
RDP/VNC
GPS mapping, turn by turn stuff
Facebook/Twitter integration/applications
Don't know if any/all of this stuff is included in any of the baked ROM's out there... Have I just missed a nice table of each available ROM, and what it has to offer?
Does Win6.5 / Android really take more horse power?
If so I may consider the latest 'official' 6.1 ROM - but i was hoping that 6.5 actually would be optimized/improved for performance over 6.1.
Here is the deal with WM 6.5 and Android. The Kaiser is an old phone, 2+ years since release, but that translates to 10+ in phone years. There are no " official upgrades " nor will there be. The Kaiser was left behind by the Raphael and even more now by the Rhodium.
All the 6.5 and Android roms on this site are all " cooked " (hacked ) roms , cooked up by various chefs here at XDA. They have taken dumped roms from other phones and have taken out the crap and have added better features . They are faster by virtue of less carrier and HTC crap in them. But they are still " hacked " versions and need to be considered beta versions.
First your phone has to be unlocked and Spl'd. " Jailbroken " if that iis a more familiar term. And then reflashed with the rom of your choice.
Android will not run on the Kaiser, a hacked version must be run off of a partitioned SD card and on top of WM, so naturally it runs a a high resource cost and very tenuously at best.
There are some very nice, fast and stable roms out there to run after you have unlocked your phone, that blow the doors off of any " official " rom. Check the rom dev page for roms with features and looks that interest you. And check peoples signatures for what people are running.
I use stylez black v4 for my everyday rom and jjblasters 6.5 rom when I want to run a " hey look at me and my cool 6.5.3 rom running on a Kaiser " rom
My TyTN II is an unlocked version (from Taiwan) - and i've already experimented with flashing ROM's successfully - just looking what software to choose for my 'final build'
It was my impression that ANDROID didn't run on TOP of WM but was bootloaded from within WM and afterwards WM would be closed? Is this incorrect?
What is the difference between the 23XXX and 28XXX branches of WM 6.5?
Any popular or recommended 'lite' UC packs?

Hey, I can confirm that the 1.6 build is stable and working wine, and yes it boots from the sd card. I have a class 4 card 2gb and it is quite smooth, but they do recommend a class 6 card. So for me there is no performance issue.
As to the wm 6.5 question: I have ahmedfikry's light rom with Opera added, and it is smooth, fast, nice and all that jazz. No worries, the difference between 23xxx and 28xxx i do not know.
Best of luck, much fun to be had.

Regarding the abouve question - so I think I am going to 'SD' install Android Polymod 'on top' of ahmedfikry wm6.5 [unless you suggest another ROM meeting my needs] (I don't want to NAND Android until all the features I want are working flawlessly)
There is no speed difference in OS operation between SD an NAND install besides initial boot time correct?
How would you choose to switch between the OS when you have WinMo + an SD Android Installation?
And again any recommendations for a nice UCPack that won't sacrifice any speed / add duplicate functionality bloat?
I've been doing nothing but testing different roms and androids for my Kaiser for the past few days.
Ive also tried both SD and NAND install of Android (polymod).
But I must say that it runs much faster on NAND than SD. (Dunno if my SD card is just slow or not. 4 gb.)
Right now I am using HyperDragon 6.5, Im quite impressed by it.
(This is for all android builds I could find: )
But I do indeed enjoy Android more, but I got some big problems with it.
The battery was drained so much quicker + didn't show real battery status.
And I had various luck dialing. Sometimes it just wouldn't work, which was why I changed back to Winmo.
I haven't tested polymod 2.1d on sd, but its 2x faster with polymod 2.1d on nand than polymod 2.1g on SD.
The one who performed best was Warm Donut, but lacked some stuff.
The battery time was about the same with power savings on. Poor.
Lacking the ability to dial with Android made me change, but I enjoy the OS more than WinMo.
My next phone will be with Android, but thats going to take some time.
hello aznphatb0i
thanks for your message
Kaiser can run wm 6.5 great after being "unlocked" to flash cooked roms
my roms here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618767
i keep cooking the newest & update the links there
are the newest from COM 5 branch with finger friendly user interface (larger bottom bar with start flag on bottom left)
latest now is 23563
there are other COM branchs out there, but i do not cook them, some cause bugs..others from COM2 are new with small bottom bar (older look) but i do not cook them because i like the interface of COM 5 better
My roms are "light" to be fastest & allow most free space.. all additional applications to be added by cabs according to user prefernce
all the links for the cabs & what they do are in the first post in my thread
as for GPS, i use TOM TOM & iGo 8 ...both run fine & loaded on 2 GB card
I do not have much to say about Android, i like windows OS...when Andriod is perfected later I may consider looking into it
if you like my work & appreciate the time & effort i put into this...please DONATE by clicking the link below in my signature
hope this helps

Hi everyone, Not been here in awhile, lots has moved on
I am after a Windows Mobile 6.5.1 Rom for My T-Mobile Compact IV (Touch Diamond) but need a recommendation.
I am looking for a Rom that has the following features still in it:
> QuickGPS
> YouTube
> RSS Hub
> Voice Dialing
> Remote Desktop
> Facebook app would be nice
> Windows Live Messenger
> Opera
> Latest (or as close as poss) HTC TouchFlo3d
> Preferably the Manila theme
> Internet Sharing
> Also would like it to be as close as possible to the Official rom as in looks feel and functionaility (ie programs etc) but hopefully improved speed/stability
Oh and I will need to get My TomTom working on it so if that requires something that is part of the OS that can't be removed. Also whats this MTTY? Before I have just use hardspl to use roms is this an alternative???
+ I install Skype as well...
Or would you recommend win mo 7 rom? To be honest I would prob rather stick to 6.5.1 and goto 7 with a new device. Maybe the Diamond 2....
Must be stable as possible and english - I have done plenty of flashing roms on my phone as I have had a few problems with some but not touched 6.5 as of yet (or a 7 release)
Want to begin flashing Sunday, But the other reason for stable is I want the least risk of bricking my device as its the only phone I have and can't afford a new one :-( Waiting for my contract to run out next year....
Is anyone kind enough to be able to recommend a rom to me please?
you mean you want a rom with all those programs included
or just a rom which support those programs when installed?
and wm7 is not out yet not even in beta
Good Morning,
I am looking for those programs to be included in the rom.
Also I know Win7 not released but I thought there was some sort of rom here with win7 leaked or something etc.
Well, I think it's not yet the time for WM6.5.1, at least in Diamond.
I've already tried some rom, result is switching back immediately.
In my opinion, there're so many bugs in 6.5.1 that these cooked roms can't fit for a daily use.
I'm realy love 6.5.1, especially its taskbar. Hope Microsoft will soon release official WM6.5.1 which is more stable than those rom we have.
i've been using BSB 6.5.1D lately and it works like a charm
Yeh I saw the BSB one but wasn't sure about it, I quite like the look of this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563245
The one titled 'Windows Revolution Manila Edition'
however it has the RSS Hub and RemoteDesktop removed when I want both of them, actually I prob could live without them both. Has anyone thoughts or advice on this rom? Might give it ago later.
I have downloaded the one I linked to but The WWE Clean B version and I'll install the Manila and Remote Desktop, has anyone got a cab for the RSS Hub?
Why don't you try lite/native rom and install whatever you want ?
I'm running CDMA on Sprint, so I am not sure how the GSM version performs in comparison however, I personally have had great luck with EnergyROM, running NRG's October 25th build on 23081.
That being said, there are several people on the forums complaining about lockups on their devices while using this ROM, in particular, when accessing messaging through manila. I however, have yet to experience these problems.
The battery settings do need a bit tweaked though, I personally used the CAB file located at the bottom of this thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=1077887&postcount=6356.
Looking over what you were looking for in a ROM, this does contain all of those, except voice command, which he does have a link for on his ROM page (At least, once again, for the CDMA diamond build)
It might be worth looking into, as the build and presentation of NRG's ROMs do feel very professional. But in the end, it comes down to playing around with various ROMs to see what works, and what dosn't.
Hope I helped!
Edit : His thread over here hasn't been updated since the Sept 20th build (Which had issues), the thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517300
However, the hotfile link for his downloads from that thread, ( http://hotfile.com/list/93325/99ab7ab ) does appear to have the newer Oct 25th build on it. Once again, I recommend trying it out, but it isn't for everyone. When it comes to ROM's, everyone has their own taste and preference, it would seem.
Hi there!!!
First of all, (just in case somebody wanders who the heck I am), I am regular bloke not particulary interested in any of the parts of developing and cooking ROM-s. Just a user who, (aren't we all), wants to have more stable and faster, (as it is able), os on the Phone.
In the first place, when I've bought the X1, I have been happy for a while, after that I begun to see some disadvantages of that device, (small icons, unresponsive OS, some kind of "its own will" etc), so I refered to this forum. Have been reading for it for a while, and decided to try some of ROM-s You gays are cooking.
And here is keypoint.
Ok, it is meant to be free, so I'm not actualy allowed to moan about any thing here, but...
Some ROM-s are to overloaded with needles features thus rather are slow, some are buggy, some of ROM-s are locked with features that are unable to move out of the OS, (like twitter, facebook, stocks and similar things specially coming with manilla interface).
These things are slowing down devices, (I really do not know why so), so badly that are diverting me, (and I believe others), from using some of Your products.
Instead of, I believe unnecessary thingies, You could cook an clean ROM with
Manilla some kind of , and basic features it gives. Other things could be put in by users.
Or I'm wrong ???
So I decided to put this post with Your, (meaning all users) opinions and to put some critics on same place
Thanks in advance.
I recommend you try Jack 4.x ROM. You can try the lite or medium. Both ROM versions are very stable and fast and you can customize them. You can find them in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543073
Well, I think I am the "typical" guy like you.
Depending on your preferences, I do think you can find what you want and need. It takes, of course, some trials, but the flashing process is fast and easy.
I actually prefer the Manila ROMs because of that very interface. In combination with WinMo 6.1, and without too much other software, you get speed and stability, as you assume. After quite some trials, I stayed with Touch X 10.8.2 because it is fast, not overloaded and stable.
Even the latest 6.5 WinMo variants combined with any version of Manila do not seem to me as fast as the 6.1 ROMs, including the really nice Touch IT Multilanguage, which looks as "clean" as you would get a new Manila device. When I tried it, I liked it very much even though it is slower than Touch X, but the bug I found took me back to Touch X again.
If you are not into Manila at all, there are some "clean" and "pure" WinMo ROMs - no Manila at all - which might offer even more speed than Touch X - I never tried that.
Touch X 10.1
It has an older manila 2.1, very fast and stable. Bugs have all been fixed and it has been around a while. Also has a nice selection of apps included and "it just works".
I am a bit of a flashaholic, but when I need my device to be usable and stable I flash 10.1
Hi everyone,
I'm the (proud?) owner of a HTC Blackstone 'Touch HD', and nowadays I don't know what to think about my phone. Of course, I've done all the flashing and tweaking, but it's still not satisfying me. Although the Blackstone Android development seems very promising to me, I also have my doubts about a 'final' build in the future.
The real problem I have is slow texting, Opera opening slow and I am just dealing with an in-responsive system.
The HTC Touch HD is obviously a very slow phone, having tried different ROMs (Topix, Energy, Miri, Dutty and some more), both Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5. I fell in love for the agenda of 6.5 (the Sense edition, I have no clue if it's implanted in WM), so I don't want to ever go back to 6.1. Though, I realize that, if I want a faster phone, I should probably go back and downgrade my phone. What I am looking for is a ROM which satisfy me with speed and agility (no restarts all the time, because memory is slipping), and can provide me my valuable agenda in a pleasant way.
I would like if some of you could give me some valuable advise. Because I'm about to throw my phone in the trashcan.
Before you are confronting me with some of the greatest ROMs; I'm not 'really' in love with Sense UI, and if turning it off and using the standard WM 6.5 menu, speeds up my phone, I will do it. But is the build-in agenda satisfying enough for my needs?
In the far future I probably will buy an iPhone 3GS (4G?), just for the fact that is a phone which doens't crash and goes slow all the time. I will be throwing a little tweaker inside of me away, sadly.
Regards,
Aram (the Netherlands)
Currently using: Miri WM 6.5 | 18.0 WWE with Manila version 2.5.19222911.0 and Radio version 1.17.25.09 (should I update this?). Using an Exchange-server for my e-mail and agenda (Google Mail)!
Did you try searchig for a Calendar-Agenda Application to install before Upgrading or downgrading your phone's core software? Custom Rom don't bring anything new that Blackstone could do already as it came out of the box, imho. Then again other people do like to customize it a lot. if you do want to bin your phone, send it my way, I'll give it a home.
What I really liked about the WM6.5 roms was and still is the fact that in a single click I can look up my appointments and notes.
You are quite right about the 'why would you flash'-thing. Sometimes I've the feeling that I really downgraded my phone, instead of giving it the boost I intended to.
Again this is an opinionated query which is frowned upon in XDA as people will have different views on which is best creating endless long threads with no real result. For these reasons I am closng this thread
i just got a x1. These are the details:
OS version
5.2.28008
manilla version
2.1.19202517.0
rom version
1.05.931.21 WWE
Radio version
1.14.25.15
im happy with the interface. but i find a bit slow and pulling when operating. my display keyboard acts weird from time to time and program to program. my sliding keyboard cannot be used on opera. it changes tab after typing a letter. i cant add favourites on opera.
So i need a better rom. what are my options ?
- is there wm7 available for x1 ?
- can u suggest me the best roms available in wm6.5 ?
- what is the speciality of the "generic" roms ? why should i use that ?

so it's a used x1 that already has a custom rom on
1. no, only up to wm6.5.x builds as of now
2. no, as I don't have an idea what you want from that rom (speed, eyecandy, smoothness, latest tech, cooked in apps,...?) and what your core areas of usage will be; I like to advice on reading the first post of rom threads you might like, there you find what the chef is cooking for and cooking with, get some screen shots and a general impression; then try some and decide for yourself, best way, believe me
3. they are faster as they are only wm6.1, nothing ported from other devices (like e.g. wm6.5), no (or little) apps cooked in,... not much to play with either
cheers
Hi!
I am kind of a noob when it comes to phone hacking so i ask for help here.
I have a Blackstone with WM 6,1. Is there any way to put WM 6,5 on it and make it work as smooth as it does now?Or do you recommend to put Android on it? I have read stuff about putting android on a blackstone and it does not sound like it works any good, but maybe i am wrong.
What do i need to swap from WM 6,1 to WM 6,5, and how do i do it.
Thank you from Forca
Windows Mobile 6.5 is not lighter or faster than 6.1. It takes more RAM and use more CPU. The only WM 6.5 ROMs for Touch HD are the ones done by the cooks here. They have ported also Manilla 2.5, so you can have twitter, facebook, footprints.. tabs weather animations, etc
You can get a very useful and fast ROM installing KWBR 6.1 and then installing a twitter client, facebook app, marketplace... if you want.
In the end depends on what you want more. WM 6.5 ROMs come with latest versions of many apps, but most of them can be installed on WM 6.1 too.
There have been other people asking the same only a few days ago, please use search:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656964
There's a section on this forum for Android on Touch HD but it's not a ROM and it's not a replacement for WM ROMs. Several things do not work at all (GPS, camera), and it's very slow on average. It's nice to take a look at Android and test apps, since you do not have to modify the ROM, you just reboot and load Android from the SD card. But it's not like you're going to run Android all the time on this device.
Thank you very much for your help
