(THEME) Stock Music app not so boring anymore... - Android Themes

Ok so I have been tinkering around for the past few trying to get the Fender Music app on my dream. Well I did it but the app sucks cause it's not FOR my device. And being that I don't know how to make it work right, I decided to go back with the stock app.
Enough rambling, you want the goods...
Backup before doing this cause I take no responsibility.
remove the .zip from the name.
Wouldn't hurt to resign it either...
Put the file in your theme's .zip. In the app folder within the .zip of course.
I don't know how to take screen shots but I will tell you to try it and you will like it. This works on my dream flawlessly. I hope the same for you...
This wasn't really that hard to do. Mostly because I don't know how to modify/make .9's nor these .xml's for that matter. But most of the visuals are what I have modified anyway so I don't see the need...
The one thing I have a problem with is the lack of album art. As soon as I figure that out, things will be nice!
This will be on my theme as soon as I get it out. I have grown to understand how long this takes for you themeer's out there. I thank you all for everything you do. But I would like to thank Binary for helping me understand the basics of things around here!!!
Which brings to my attention, this is based on CM 4.2.13......

screenshot.apk from market...

Thanks much. I was waiting for that actually though.
But that's what I will use when I have everything finished.
Knowing this environment though, I'll never finish...

You can take screenshots even easier with ddms.bat
In revision 4 just go to Device and Screen Capture (or whatever).
Simple.

Ok. Thank you. But I'm still going to wait until I finish my theme before I take screen shots. Until then, you'll just have to dl it to find out what it looks like...

Nice to see you getting so into this. If you want help with .9.pngs, Jairomeo taught me a nice trick that makes it very easy (assuming eclipse is set up).

Eclipse is set up I just don't know how to use it other than to start up a virtual android...

Gonna try it out now. I want to know what it looks like
/edit: here is the signed .apk (Or was it already signed?)
(push to system/app)

ok noob question lol... i downloaded the file but when i try to copy it to system/app folder it says file is read only.. something i missed?

yea. what he said.

This is outdated. I haven't had the time to work on it lately and I apologize for that. My theme hasn't seen any love for a few days either.
But it works and looks better than stock.
Here's how I install it.
Put music.apk in root sdcard folder. Use a file manager like Astro or And Explorer to navigate to it. Click it and install with package installer.
Enjoy!

Hey man,the name's Andy.I'm new here on XDA and stumbled across this thread just surfing and looking for the MyFaves App as well for my G1. I am running the SuperHero V2 and am also looking for the myFaves app. I know a lot of people don't like it but it's just a quick way to access your favorite 5 people. Anyways...Do you understand any of this jibber jabber at all? I've read the thread and don't understand how to install the app onto my G1. When I flashed the Hero ROM to my G1 I lost the MyFaves App and am just trying to get it back. I've read many many threads on this topic but am still learning how to add apps. Any help would be greatly appreciated from anybody as to how to install this app onto my G1 with Hero Rom. Thanks in advance everybody! Any answers can be sent directly to [email protected] as I do not check threads that much. I check back every other day while being bored at work. Any Help is GREATLY appreciated!

get ready for some more jibba jabba. Be sure your phone is allowed to install non-market apps. Do this by selecting Options then Applications, then make sure you select the check box next to "Unknown Sources".
Next download the .apk and load it onto your SD card. After thats done go ahead and download Astro file manager from the Marketplace. With me so far? Good. Once you have astro installed launch it and look for the .apk you placed on your sd card. If you did everything properly then you will be able to select the .apk and press Install.
Hope that helps

I'm tracking on what your saying and totally understand but where can I download the myfave.apk file from? Thanks again,it's very much appreciated!
short answer: you cant.
the myfaves app is an odex file, completely different ballgame. basically, nobody has found a way of incorporating it into roms yet and t-mobile never put it on the market like their other apps.
regardless, unless youre using the myfaves app for the interface, its useless anyway. set your myfaves through t-mobile.com and then set up direct call links on your desktop using anycut or bettercut.

Couldn't say it any better. Plus you won't want the myfaves app on your phone because its a memory hog.
MyFaves?
OK,one more question. I've been trying to modify things and trying to figure out how to do this. Does anybody know how to use apps2sd to move the myfaves.apk or the odex file or whatever to the sd card? Basically like moving an app to the sd but with the myfaves app? Anybody understand what I'm saying? Just curious. I'm trying to figure this out so that I can try to port it to a Hero build. I'm kinda at a dead end here.Any help is appreciated.
in windows you have to have "show file extensions" enable in the view tab of Folder Options

I have myFaves already,I'm trying to figure out how to move it to the SD Card like apps2sd would do. When I use apps2sd though it does not move MyFaves to the SD card. I think if I could figure this out and get it to work I MAY(not for sure) would be able to port it to a hero build.IDK. I'm just trying anything to get it ported right now.I'm working hard on this and racking my brain and searching and looking and scouring for answers. Thanks for your input though.

how do you skin the default keyboard?

i know some themes change it, but i like the theme i have already. i just want to change the keyboard to a more pleasant look. is there somewhere i can find different ones to download or flash onto my rom? i don't want to use betterkeyboard app, etc.
Here You Go Buddy.
Well i skinned the stock keyboard pretty easily with a few easy techniques.
First check out my theme Ivory http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612315 To see if that's what you want. I hope your familiar with themeing or this might be confsing.
-I took the latinIME.apk from cyanogens last rom
-Opened it as a zip and navigated to the res drawable folders
-downloaded the better keyboard skins i wanted (simple black and green)
-pulled the different drawable files from the betterkeyboard apps and replaced the stock cyanogen ones
-resigned apk and flashed inside my theme

Im not sure, are you using stricstons signing tool? how are you flashing it?
What ROM are you trying it on? The new CM ROMs the keyboard is now in the LatinIME.apk instead of the framework-res.apk, but if you are using one of the other ROMs, that may not be the case.

i dont think so, im using a modded apk signing tool i found on here, i lost the link.
and im doing
cp /sdcard/LatinIME.apk(the one i made) /system/app
in terminal emulator.
then after that the keyboard just dissappears. if i restart after that, the keyboard never shows up. if i just try to go back, i get acore force close repeatedly.

You may want to try getting Stericson's signing tool. If it is disappearing signing could be the main issue. Since you edit it on your PC, why don't you just push it through adb after signing instead of copying it to your sd and then having to use the terminal?

the thing is though that i used the same signing tool to edit a graphic on a different app & it worked just fine.
i don't have/really know what adb OR sdk is & terminal is the easiest way i know how to do it. i mean does it really make a difference?
its been confirmed that it's not my signing tool because i used the same tool to edit a different app, a battery widget i downloaded from the market. & it worked fine. anyone else can help me?
lets get this working buddy,
Alrighty maybe try flashing the keyboard in an update.zip, just put the latinIME.apk into a folder named app. Then copy a meta inf folder from another theme download, you can use mine. Then send that to a compressed folder, resign and try to flash it. I would try that, I have never had good luck pushing with adb and pulling stuff, I stick with the easy way
yesssss i finally got it to work! it turns out i didnt need the signing tool at all. i took the latinime.apk file from a theme with a skinned keyboard, then i ONLY replaced the keyboard png's, and kept the meta-inf how it was. thanks guys for trying to help

Never mind. I'm going to do it the hard way. :) Mods please close. Thank you.

I need help from you genius developers. I'm 99% done porting a rom over to release it here. I'm having issues with changing Phone.apk. I did the following:
1) Decompiled Phone.apk with apktool
2) Modified the manifest to add the permission I needed to add
3) Compiled it with apktool
4) Used 7zip to put my new manifest into the original apk
5) Used 7zip to put my new apk into the rom's zip
6) Flashed it and immediately after boot, got FC's on com.android.phone because it says the signature doesn't match the previously installed version and it will be ignored.
I found that if I place my modified Phone.apk on the sdcard, install the cpts binary (copies and retains the destination timestamp) in /system/xbin and set perms, I can do this:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
# cpts /sdcard/Phone.apk /system/app/Phone.apk
I'll get this output and it'll work fine:
Code:
cpts /sdcard/Phone.apk /system/app/Phone.apk
Original ts:1290546488
Allocated 8388608 bytes.
But if I try to pull it from the phone, stick it back in the rom zip, it won't work when flashed clean.
I've beaten my head against the wall with this and any help will be appreciated.
TIA!
I think this needs to go in Q/A, since it's a question.
J/k. Have you tried Apk Manager 4.9? I've used it to mess with system apk's and data apk's, and it has options for both, which it handles differently.

LOL! I tried Apk Manager first and it wouldn't even decompile it without giving me errors.
I'll add some screenshots of what I've got so far. Maybe it will motivate someone to help!
Signatures aren't matching with what was previously installed.
Basically what you're doing is this:
Stock-Phone.apk has signature=1. (for example)
Your-Phone.apk has signature=2.
When you "hot-swap" them, it goes something like this:
Android: Hey, Stock-Phone.apk, what's your signature?
Stock-Phone.apk: It's numba 1, like me!
Android: Cool cool, *writes down. Go ahead and run!
*hot-swap here
Android: Hey, Your-Phone.apk! *looks at paper, ah, I have it written down! Your signature is 1, go ahead.
Your-Phone.apk: Hee hee!
Your-Phone.apk will use the cached signature to pretend like its signature=1.
However, putting it in a zip and flashing clean will not allow Android to cache any signatures. So Your-Phone.apk will read signature=2, and fail.
It'll go something like this:
Android: Hey, Your-Phone.apk, what's your signature?
Your-Phone.apk: 2!
Android: Sorry man, we only allow 1s in here, no execution for you!
Your-Phone.apk: FC FC FC FC FC!
I could never solve this problem without a two-zip flash and a full boot in-between, but some other devs might've managed to solve it.
PS I hope you enjoyed that analogy! xD

I DID enjoy the analogy! Thanks G! That makes perfect sense. I tried signing it myself with testsign.jar and it still didn't match the original. I may have to try the two-zip flash method.

Thanks for the reply Wes. Yes, I tried using his Phone.apk file and it was missing the same permission. His port had more issues, like not being able to hang the phone up. So far, this is the last thing not working in my port.
Without this permission, when u get an incoming call, while the screen is off, the phone can't unlock the screen.
EDIT: And reading internal memory isn't working, but I'm not worried about that yet. It's 5:50am and time to go to work for me. I think I just needed some sleep as I spent too many hours on this last night. Today's a NEW day!

[Q] Where does a keyboard apk go?

This is my noobe question of the day. I have the Gingerbread keyboard .apk and want to put it in the proper directory (folder) on my phone. Where does it go so it is recognized in Settings, Locale and text? Also, where can I put it in the CWM .zip file of a ROM so when I flash again it is already there?
I am currently running Continuum 5.3, which is a Gingerbread ROM.

It's /system/app don't shorten file trees like that it can be confusing. There is a folder called /sys and it doesn't have any apps.
You can put the keyboard in that folder before you flash it, cooking it into the rom. Also if there are any non system apps you want at first boot you can throw those in /data/app...

Cool. I realized that when I went to the Mosaic thread. Congrats!! From reading the Team Phoenix ROM posts like Mosaic and Phoenix Ultimate, it seems you have been very helpful to so many people and have helped me learn more along the way. Looking forward to checking out the updated Mosaic...hopefully tomorrow??
Yup ... And every monday.
Think my mouse clicking refresh on my browser will probably need to be replaced then after every Monday. That's what seemed like was going to happen after Mosaic had it's name and was waiting on the release. Tomorrow should now be a great day.

On a Mac so no F5 for my browser. I use Mac and Ubuntu instead of Windows, except for flashing as I'm an IT guy and prefer to use these especially to capture malware on a network. Actually prefer the mouse anyways.
Looking forward to Thursday. I'll keep this under wraps.

(Update 12/22/11) [Bootanimation/Splash] Lightning Vortex w/ animated HTC splash

Hey XDA, been away for a while and just finished my first semester of college. Checked up on my old thread to find alot of positive things. A while back I wanted to do more with this and never got around to it, but figured it was about time I did...
The new animation starts somewhat similarly to the old one with added transition between the HTC logo and the vortex. Also after the vortex, instead of a static image at the end I've thrown together a completely new piece that will loop until the phone finally decides to start.
This version also uses JPGs rather than PNGs. I just found out JPGs could be used the other day... After optimizing the PNGs, (something that wasn't considered for the old one) this new one comes out to a total of 234MB... (one of those things that happen when you only use AfterFX for the project...) If anyone would like this anyway... Let me know and I'll put it up somewhere.
I also made a basic splash screen, something that was misadvertised with the old version. It is the first image in the attachments and can be installed thru bootloader. (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?37e8as4f4m68cwu)
Download: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?w1ci9p2ugk7271d
If you would like the stock sound to use with this download it from the attachments below, extract the mp3 and add it to /system/media.
GIFs were 4-5MB each so heres a video instead...
Old version has been moved to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20568970 if anyone wants to check it out.
Thanks for the link, and if you get a chance to try it out let me know how you like it
This is [email protected]$$! Way better then the stock bootanimation
Great work!

How to I install this? HBoot or Recovery? I know sometimes you need to rename it to the PG0059 thing (I know it's not right) and I'm just curious before I go screwing anything up

I personally used clockwork recovery and did install sdcard/update.zip
Place the update.zip from the download onto the root of the sd card, then in ROM manager, reboot into recovery and install the update.
There are alternatives to this such as just putting the bootanimation.zip into the right folder using root explorer, but I ran into permission problems so I did it this way.

Thanks alot bud! Thats what I thaught but I figured I would ask before doing anything. Looks sick- thanks for posting!
EDIT: Just flashed it and it looks amazing! Definitley a keeper! I like how fast it spells "quietly brilliant" (I hate slow screens) and the animations on the boot animation is just plain awesome. ++++1
DUDE this is sweeet! Thanks!
Glad you guys like it. Are you using the stock sound with it. Seems like it would work good with this, but I lost it when I flashed to the ROM I'm on >.>
yes stock sound and it is perfect!

Yeah same here, the stock sound works great with it
Is this new boot animation really 24MB? Like, I yanked it out of the update .zip because I normally move them with Root Explorer. I find easier, and I have a system to doing this where I save the old ones in the folder and just rename them. Allowing me to swap them out at will by simply altering the name of the bootanimation . zip back to that.
-Edit- NVM. I see why it's 24MB now.
Holy effing sh!t cakes! That's a lot of graphical content to run through there in the beginning. Looks awesome though!
Again, just to anyone reading this that hasn't tried this boot animation yet.
THIS BOOT ANIMATION IS AWESOME!

Glad you like it. I would have done the same using root explorer, but I ran into read only and permission problems for anything i tried to use it with. And I really tryed to lower the size the best I could... It was originally 165mb, then found out it was rendering w/o compression (lossless), changed render settings managed to get to 95mb... to get it to 24mb I lowered the quality a little more and it skips every other frame. After uploading it I attempted to make it smaller but all i can do is lower the quality even more, and at 17mb it looked pretty bad.
PS- could someone link me to the stock FinalThunder.mp3 I haven't had it since I flashed my ROM

No I wasn't *****ing about the size. I was checking to make sure I didn't bork something up extracting it. I was just verifying as most of them are 2-6MB.
Here's the Final Thunder .mp3
I ripped it right from the system folder with RE so it should be good. Make sure you check the permissions though. As they may need to be altered to get it to jive with the way it gets read. It should be;
X-X-[0]
X-[0]-[0]
X-[0]-[0]
I think.
X meaning checked.
I had to rar it to post it.
Edit: Yes, that's the way the permissions need to be above, but when it gets extracted it changes them to;
[0]-[0]-[0]
X-X-X
X-[0]-X
So if you just drop it in there it probably WON'T WORK. Make sure you change the permissions!
Again, thanks for the awesome boot animation!
Thanks, I just now noticed the mount r/w button at the top of root explorer >.>
I also did all of this before I saw the post edit, so I did just throw it in there, but it still worked =o
Now I can see the bootscreen everyones been thanking me for lol... Thanks again for the sound clip =)

Hardly a fair trade for the kick ass boot animation. But no problem.
Yeah, many moons ago RE owned me until I found that little mount r/w button. After finding it however it's been an extremely useful tool.
I'm surprised the MP3 worked for you actually w/o changing permissions. :shrugs: I'm leaving the warning there in case someone else downloads it for the same purpose and it doesn't.
Which file or folder do i drop this into to make sound work. I am on gingeritis and had to delete the VZW_bootanimation and there is no sound once i swapped that boot animation out with this one?

It's either system/media
or
system/customize/resource
But I think it's system/media
Find the bootanimation .zip and that's where the sound file should go.
I tried putting it system/customize/resource and that didnt do anything so i will try system media I guess just put in the main file or any one of the sbu files I have
audio
GPU
weather
folders in there will try a few i guess?

If anyone wants to try this, it is a zip of the vortex boot animation hopefully with the sound. It is for anyone running a rom that has a boot animation in the system/customize/resource folder and the boot animation is labeled VZW_bootanimation.
Let me know how it goes please
My apologies if the OP does not want this and will take down if asked

I got the animation to work, but no thunder. Tried everything! I think it may be my current set up (gingeritits and imosyons 2.5.4.test.4 kernel) since day one, there's been no sound. It came with the old school PC looking bootanimation and I read somewhere that, that boot ani is supposed to sound like a disc drive spooling up with clicks n what not, but it never did. I remember on the virus Rom I had, it DID have sound and the .mp3 was called VRsound.mp3. I made my own, fixed permissions, renamed it to VRsound.mp3 and replaced it. That worked. I could be wrong, but because this ROM didn't come with sound in the first place, I just can't get it.... Oh well. Still a tight boot! sound or not!
