Hi ,
i tried upgrading my rom, and my computer restarted, whilst it was at 42%. i cant seem to connect via usb now to complete the update, phone screen just shows rainbow. help, what do i do now?
thanks
there is a way to salvage your fone if you boot up into the rainbow screen all you have to do is extract the files of the rom package using winrar
and manually execute the romupdater file
i had a similar error when i rebooted it wouldnt boot right and i just got a blank screen so i booted into the tri color mode
extracted the files using winrar of the rom updater package
and just used the rom updater and bypassed all of the cid unlocking and stuff cuz it was already unlocked
thanks
how do i unrar the files, if a cant connect with activesync?
please expalin step by step, cos i am a newbie.
thanks
sussed out
thanks, i have sorted it
thanks
Hello today I attempted something that I thought was going to be a quick video tutorial fix. I tried Rooting my HTC one. I followed several guides and read many posts I easily managed to unlock my phone. The problem started when trying to flash the recovery onto my phone, first I tried through commands: fastboot flash recovery and I received the error (FAILED data transfer failure unknown error) I've searched for 7 hours looking for a fix. Since I cant root reverting back to a fresh install is impossible, I cant find a RUU for telus, (I live in canada). I just don't know what to do, when I try to flash anything my bootloader freeze, drivers are up to date, tried restarting computer. Used One_M7_All-In-One_Kit_v1.0 doesn't work. This is a nightmare come save me before I jump off a cliff.
EDIT: What I did from beginning was followed this video "How to Root the HTC One-FlamingArio"to the point where you try and flash the recovery fastboot. That didnt work so after trying to fix that I tried How To Root HTC One & Unlock Bootloader - Easiest & User Friendly- The smoking Android ( super boot a 1 click install) that made my bootloader screen turn to tampered. after that I tried One_M7_All-In-One_Kit_v1.
Note in all in one kit I did erase cache and standard recovery works fine, I've re-installed it may times.
Cant post links yet but I gave video names.
EDIT: when I do the cmd fastboot devices my device shows up when I do adb devices nothing shows up could this be part of the problem?
Thank you all for your help, I re-installed all the programs on my laptop and redid all the steps and it worked. Bye!
Try this in ABD fastboot erase cache then flash the recovery again i hope this helps:fingers-crossed:
What did you do from the beginning? Could you post a step by step traceback of what got you to this point? Let's see if you missed any steps

Keep an eye on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2302870
Many people are looking for the Telus RUU.
Can you still access standard recovery? If so try reverting to factory settings (all data will be lost) and try to boot.
If you can get it to boot you should have more luck in trying to root your device.
I know that I had some issue's trying to get root on my device. But once I got S-off with revone, I was able to install root no problem.

Nice to see you sorted it
Assuming you have actually flashed a recovery image to your device, you will then need to push a ROM to your sd card so that you can flash it in recovery.
Just do the following:
1. I am guessing you have the HTC drivers installed on your PC.
2. Download the attached adb.zip and unzip it to a folder on your C drive and call the folder whatever you like.
3. Boot your device into recovery and plug it in to a powered USB port on your PC.
4. Navigate to the folder that you just created on your PC and copy your ROM zip into it. rename the ROM zip to 'rom.zip' to make life easy.
5. Inside the folder, press and hold the shift key and right click in a blank part of the window and select 'Open command window here' (screenshot attached).
6. Type 'adb push rom.zip /sdcard' (don't use the quote marks)
7. Press 'enter'
8. Once the zip has finished being pushed to your sdcard, you can reboot into recovery and then flash it as normal.
EDIT: That will teach me not to read to the very end of a post. I'll leave this here for someone else.
Coucou !
I need to put my HTC Desire C back as new, therefore I looked for RUU stuff.
I checked this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2035480, trying to follow it the more I can. HTC Sync as well as Android SDK (up to date) are present on my laptop using Windows 7 64.
1. I re-lock the phone: fastboot oem lock.
2. I downloaded the RUU from: http://www.androidruu.com/?developer=Golf, file: RUU_GOLF_U_ICS_40A_HTC_Europe_2.00.401.2_Radio_10.11.98.09H_1.06.98.13M2_release_295101_signed.exe
3. I ran with administrator rights the RUU til first screen, asking for agreement.
4. I extracted the recovery_signed.img and flashed it. Fine.
5. I followed the instructions on the screen.
6. It says (translation from french, sorry if it's not exactly what you'll have on an english screen): "checking", "rebooting to bootloader", "waiting for bootloader", "erase user's data" and finally "sending". On my phone screen, there is a white HTC on a black screen.
And it is stuck there. I waited for an hour, still there.
When I disconnect the phone, it says:
- On my computer: error 155: error to image update
- On my phone: a white RUU on an orange background, under classical "*** Relocked ***" (and sometimes "*** Security warning ***") and "GolfU PVT SHIP S-ON RL", then "HBOOT-1.31.000", then "RADIO-1.10.98.15", then "eMMC-boot", then "Jul 12 2012, 15:44:30".
I followed the instruction to "recover" (correct ? button at the bottom and righ of the window), nothing good. I restarted the phone, the laptop, nothing changes.
What can I do?
If you want, I can take screen captures to show you.
i think you also need to flash the stock boot.img
Coucou Bogdy,
First of all, I'd like to thank you for your answer. But, sadly, it didn't work.
I flashed the boot.img, extracted from the "temp" directory , like this:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
I ran the program and the same thing, stuck on HTC logo, then started the repair stuff, and again stuck on HTC logo.
Does somebody have an idea?
you could also try flashing a stock rom+boot+recovery from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2220396&page=2
from what i experienced with a stock based custom rom is that when activating data connection the phone restarts(radio versions differ) so this could happen with a stock rom(not sure)
as for the RUU,i've read that if the hboot version on the phone is higher than the RUU's it won't flash. also i think that the RUU you have only works on european CID but i could be wrong.
you should wait for a more "PRO" answer
Thanks again for your answer, Bogdy.
I'm downloading from the link from the post you suggest me. When it's finished, good or bad, I'll come back.
Coucou !
Well done. Now it's OK, I could flash the original ROM and the phone works perfectly.
Thank you for your help.

You could also do this: - lock bootloader
- power on device
- enable adb debugging on device
- make sure you have adb and fasboot working corectly
- connect device via usb to PC
- run RUU with administrator rights
- and from there on just follow the instructions given by software
you really need the 2-4 lines i mentioned up for this to work
no need to flash anything recovery or boot if it's an .exe
if it's a .zip you need to :
flash via custom recovery and flash boot and recovery via fastboot
Coucou Makerrr,
More or less, it is what I've done. I haven't check if adb were working, nevertheless. So it may be the cause of all my problems. But I won't know because I followed Bogdy's way and the job is done, the phone is completly configured, and already in my wife's hand.
Next time, I'll try your way. So thanks a lot.
Greetings,
This evening I was able to get the Elemental Kernel installed, and was so excited to see the charge LED working among other nice tweaks. As the last step I performed an fastbook oem lock to wrap up the process and this seems to have decimated the install for some reason.
I don't currently have logs or any details to provide, other than the steps I took:
1) Grabbed the stock ROM from Google.
2) Executed flash-all.bat
3) Let the device boot, but skipped several of the usual setup steps such as activating cell service and re-downloading all my apps.
4) Rebooted the device into the fastboot and executed the lock command.
5) Watched with sadness as things seemed to fall apart... I was constantly taken to the TWRP screen with a bunch of errors and I'm not sure why.
Has anyone else seen this or been able to reproduce this? I'm a big fan of locking after setting everything up plus it removes that little padlock from under the Google logo on the start up screen.
Thanks in advance,
-Eric

The bootloader must be unlocked.
Search for threads with info about relocking the bootloader.
Hi Guys,
I found this file for unlocking the boot loader officially from the ASUS website, It can unlock the boot loader after the latest update too.
Please note
If you unlock your boot loader you will not be able to get OTA update but you can download and update your phone manually.
Also your warranty will be void.
Your Data (Storage) and phone data will be fully gone so please take a backup.
Try at your own risk!
Dear fusioncoast - can you please link us to the page on the Asus website where you downloaded the tool from?
https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone-5Z-ZS620KL/HelpDesk_Download/
You need to select android as os on the page for the download to become visible.
Hey, you can;t get to the helppage for the 5z anymore I noticed, and this unlock tool just gives me an error (something about network).
Any other way to unlock the bootloader? Or maybe newer version is needed?
Anyone?

Ok, so I ran in the same problem. I eventually bricked my phone (not totally, fastboot was still accesible) so I tried to flash this original Asus ROM back.
Everything was fine, the phone worked as original with Android 10.
But then I noticed that when I run the script of the file that I posted above, the state of my phone was unlocked for a couple of seconds, so I imediately closed the command prompt in Windows when that happend (after the script has rebooted the phone once) and it remained unlocked. Then I have proceeded with this guide and it worked like a charm, I have succesfully installed ArrowOS 13 back on my phone without Official Asus Unlocking tool APK.
STEPS FOR UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER WITHOUT ASUS APK
(IT WORKED FOR ME, I DO NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSABILITIES FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY OCCURE)
Please back up any file before proceeding the steps. THEY DO REMOVE USER DATA!
1. Download this: SCRIPT_ASUS_ORIGINAL_UNBRICKING
2. Unzip it, and run flashall_AFT.cmd while in FASTBOOT mode (power+vol up).
Leave it still until is complete (let the script execute itself completly!! It may brick device if disconnected at wrong time)
3. Let the phone start until Welcome screen. You should see original Asus first time boot.
4. Go back in fastboot mode (power+vol up)
5. Run the script again but when you see that the phone is restarting and started back in fastboot with state UNLOCKED imediately close the command prompt window from the computer.
It may brick the device if disconnected at wrong time.
Disconnect it just at the right time as I said (after first reboot in fastboot + on the screen should say state UNLOCKED).
It's better to leave the script run itself again completly if you missed the first restart and repeat the process from step 4 again.
6. Now, the bootloader is unlocked, you can follow normal process: NOOB GUIDE
Please let me know if it worked for you too.
Thanks I will try it: if it doesn't work or brick my phone it's too bad I'll just have it recycled..

Awesome. You are welcome! Please let me know if it worked for you too. I used latest TWRP (3.7.0) and ArrowOS 13 Official as the CustomROM.

A new method to unlock bootloader without ASUS APK
Here is a factory ABL (aka bootloader) image file from Android 10 user raw package, it will make bootloader unlock untill flash back to the stock file.
1. download the attach file (ZS620KL_unlock_bootloader.zip)
2. reboot zenfone 5Z to fastboot mode
3. extract the zip file
4. make sure bootloader driver is properly installed and recognized in windows
5. execute 'flash_abl.bat' (it will wipe userdata after that!!!)
6. now your device is bootloader unlocked

I must be missing something because all it says is waiting for any device...
I also get a message waiting for device.
How do I get the batch file to run?
However, it worked, I just had to reinstall the drivers,
Thanks
There doesn't seem to be a way to unlock the bootloader for the moment.

You should have the adb platform tools for windows, connect your phone via usb and if you see phone's serial number as output for adb devices .... you are good to go, download the zip from above, follow the steps, for sure your Zenfone 5z would be unlocked ...... I had the latest firmware from asus website installed on my phone.
