[REQ] Skinning the vanilla Pocket Outlook calendar app - Windows Mobile Themes

Hello, I am the "lucky" owner of an HD2; I've been searching these forums, both the hd2 branch and everything else, for a way to "skin" the pocket outlook calendar to look more finger friendly, but either noone discussed this before, or I've been blind somewhere.
Anyway, the Sense today plugin looks very good, and the HTC calendar tab is really eyecandy, but is basically USELESS, as I need to wait time for the screens to scroll up and down, I cannot have a week view where clicking a day opens the day (not always anyway), I cannot copy/paste/cut a whole appointment, I cannot jump one week forward in single-day view, I am nto presented with a dropdown list where all the most recently "locations" used in single appointments are shown for me to choose from instead of writing them each time... and generally, I have a nice eyecandy animation all over the HTC calendar, but miss a hell lot of functions I got used to (and now aboslutely need for proficiently taking appointments) with PO calendar, when up until a week ago I was using my ipaq 214.
While HTC calendar is full of shortcomings, PO calendar has a big one tho: it is not AT ALL fingerfriendly, and for some reason looks garbled with wrong/missing icons (icons which are quite small).
So, is there a way (tool/file editing/cab/anything) that would let me keep the PO calendar that I oh so much like, but with a different, "bigger" skin?

Dunno if it will help you or not, but try thumbcal ane see, i had the same problem as you before.......

I tried thumbcal, that's extreme skinning to some extent also, it's commercial, and I would need to pay just to use a different calendar only to have eyecandy... plus, it doesn't do what I do need, that is cut/copy/paste whole appointments :-|
I would also appreciate tips on where to look, what PNG to change, or anyway, where to start if I wanted to change myself the appearance of the pocket outlook calendar!

This has nothing to do with skins, but is dependendant solely on the coding. What you could do though is to flash a 6.5.3 ROM, which should be a bit more finger-friendly overall.
Also there are some other powerful commercial alternatives, like SBSH Calendar Touch, Pocket Informant or Agenda One. These are definetely more finger-friendly than Pocket Outlook but don't look as good as HTC Calendar.

I would normally abandon my search for workarounds since you told me that.. but I do have evidence that skinning of vanilla calendar is possible, at least to some extent... Wisbar advance can do that, and I happen to have a license for that utility (I used it on the ipaq 210 with wm6, skinned lot of the UI calendar included), but installing it over Sense -tried it- means unleashing hell over the overall aspect of the hd2 interface.
So I was looking for a way to skin the PO calendar, and that alone...

WAD is not a skin, it's a standalone app...

Yes, it is a standalone app... which anyway does skin the vanilla pocket outlook interface (together with a lot of other aspects of WM).
It doesn't include a "WA calendar", it just sets PO calendar to look differently, with different days tab graphics, tab backgrounds, titlebar color and the likes... don't know if it's still possible to use bigger graphics to enlarge the days tabs button tho...

No, it does not set Pocket Outlook to look differently, but it really has its own calendar app - it's just integrated in the whole WAD UI.

I think you should reconsider this... I just turned on my old ipaq 214, which I'm about to put on sale, and I checked the calendar.lnk file in the start menu folder, it points to "poutlook.exe calendar", clicking it opens up the normal PO calendar, with the skinned tabs by WAD.
So WAD does skin the pocket outlook calendar, somehow...

Favourite calendar application

What's the best calendar application out there? I think the built-in one is too limited. I owned a Mteor before I bought the TyTN II and replaced the built-in one with Papyrus.
The best one for PocketPC/Windows Mobile Professional that I've found so far is Agenda Fusion (www.developerone.com).
Pocket Informant every time
I'd recommend looking at AgendaOne more than Agenda Fusion these days. It's the newer/slicker version of the product. I use that & have for years after upgrading from Agenda Fusion.
I tried Agenda One, Agenda Fusion and Pocket Informant. I prefer PI.
What I do NOT like about Agenda One is its limited icons. Maybe the made new ones in the meantime, but there were only a few and the TONS that exist for Fusion are NOT COMPATIBLE with One! Go figure. Also, it is supposed to be faster and fine-tuned for one-handed operation --- well, YMMV but I found it could not live up to that promise.
Good luck making you choice.
EDIT: THIS WAS MY 100th POST
CHAMPAGNE!
MUSIC!
DANCE!
For those who are using Agenda Fusion on the Tytn II, how fast/slow is it? Are there any lags when opening the application? What version of AF are you using?
I have version 7.85 installed on the Tytn II and I have a delay of approx. 2 seconds from when the application starts to when the tasks in are listed.
When they developed AgendaOne, they did change the required icon format and the Fusion Icons generally won't work. But usually for $5-6 bucks you can find good icon packs around. DesignsByBert has three different packs available, for example. I happen to like the business one...
Yeah I have seen them, but I found them inadequate. I know picky picky.

Is AgendaOne faster than AgendaFusion? AgendaFusion is quite slow to start (same applies to Pocket Informant, for that matter).
I found AgendaOne to be much faster than AgendaFusion.
There's a slight delay when it loads as it builds the view, but it's typically only 1-2 seconds for me (something like 200 appointments, 20 task, 850 contacts). I recall Fusion being much longer, but then it was also on a slower device with less RAM and it was around eighteen months ago.
I have played a little with Pocket Informant now. I like it better than Agenda Fusion. Features are similar, but it looks way better.
When using Pocket Informant is there anyway to combine the calendar with PocketCM for Contacts?
I love pocketCM but when I install PI I get lumbered with PI's Contacts - which arent as nice as PocketCM
PS How rude of me... I'm new in here and didn't even have the courtesy to say HI
PPS Hi All. I'm new in here. Loving the Kaiser/Vario III/Tytn II/all the other names!

Good question. The PI contact application stinks. I'd love to replace it with something else - even the built-in one. I don't think that's possible either.
Handling alarms and notifications
Two questions:
1. I really like the option in Agenda Fusion to set an alarm by absolute date and time. Is this possible in Agenda One or Pocket Informant?
2. When a notification pops up, I would like to be able to select the Menu/View Item option and have the appointment come up for editing in Agenda Fusion rather than the default Calendar. Is there any way to accomplish this?
Thanks.

Best calendar and phone manager application

Hi to all.
I am a new owner of a TyTN II and former owner of 9090 and S710. I would like which is the best calendar and phone manager (missed calls) application?
I don't know about phone manager, but as concerns calendar application, I think that SPB diary is probably the best....
I go with Spb Diary and Spb Phone Suite......
I use Agenda One. For me the best, Great piece of software !
maybe he means phone explorer ( phone manager )
if that is what it means so you have only one choice
resco explorer
I'll throw in the combo I like:
PocketInformant
http://www.pocketinformant.com/?p_id=pocketinformant
SBSH PhoneWeaver
http://www.sbsh.net/product.php?id=28
SBSH PocketBreeze

Total Commander is a good free alternative for file managing
For calendar, Calendar+ is my preferred Today plugin. I bought pocketbreeze (which is similar to SPB Diary I think) when it was on special offer, but in the end I found I preferred Calendar+. I also tried TodayAgenda and, while it was good, it didn't suit me.
For missed call notifications (which seems to be missing in WM6), you might want to consider PhoneAlarm and SPB Phone Suite.

I've tried both SPB Diary and Pocket Informant. I think the second one is definately more customizable but I don't like the today screen that much and i have some problems with the GREEK language. I like the spb diary today plugin but it doesn't have links for emails and phone numbers on the appointments, so that I can call someone easily. Also when you open the appointment if the title is long you have to scroll with the arrows.. Is there a program that can combine these? I will give Agenda One a try!!
I am testing Agenda One now. It is probably the most useful application available.
I tried Agenda One, but found that it didn't have all of the features I wanted. Agenda Fusion is similar to Agenda One, but has more capabilities. Agenda Fusion is working great for me.
Oooops! I somehow double-posted.
Just curious. What do all these 3rd party calendar software have that Outlook doesn't. I've tried a few, and have always gone back to Outlook. It's nice and simple to use.
I dont call thumbcal the best , but as of now its suit my need. Very simple and finger friendly = what I want from a calendar.

I'm using this exact same set of S/W. Working well for me. PocketInformant has many better calendar views than PocketOutlook. PocketBreeze gives me flexible ways to put my calendar on my homescreen. If you go to a lot of meetings (and/or use Outlook to keep your personal calendar too) these types of views are very helpful.
Hello,
I've just tried Pocket Informant, which is very great, but it seems to not fit my necessity as I was expecting. It has "all" but what I need.
I simply need to set my "class" timetable for university. I don't want to use Excel or something similar. I thought something like pocket informant was the best one to do that, but it seems a little bit complicate. It also maybe I'm not able to use PI very well.
I also want to not use PI to view my contacts. Is there some place where I can select what PI should manage and what not? For example, I don't want Activities to be managed by PI. What to do?
Thanks a lot.
Call Calendar
One of the best ones I use, It logs all calls into your phones calendar, then will put it onto your outlook or exchange server as a private appointment.

Pocket Informant (the newest one) has settings called 'Roles' under which you can choose whether PI is the default app for calendar / tasks / contacts
Thanks a lot aberz! I'll try it as soon as possible!
EDIT: I've just tried it. That's really cool! Thank you!
...
Thank you rabdo, I'm going to look for that "role"... I hope to find it!! There are a lot of possible settings !!!
EDIT: I found it. It works very well now.
Bye!
I love Pocket Breezer, I've always used PB since I had MDA Vario and now I've got MDA Vario III but still using PB.

[Q] [REQ] Calendar / Agenda software?

Hi everyone! I have my Raphael since November 2008 (man, time goes fast!) in replacement of a Palm Lifedrive. The PPC sistem is very nice, and I love my phone... the only thing I miss is the calendar/agenda sistem of the Palm OS, where you can separate your meetengs, etc by category and these are showed in the agenda in differents colors. I think this is VERY useful! I now using the GREAT and last version of ENERGY ROM (TP2 Manila xbmod), and this interface have a nice improvement in the TF3D with the CALENDAR TAB, but this "show" a "busy" day only by a white mark, and the WM6.1 calendar doesn´t have any colors to show in the Week or month view. So... my question /request is : Is there any way to tweak the TP2 manila or the WM6.1 default calendar so it could show different colors depending on different categories? or Is there another good software that replace the default agenda and has this feature?
...well , that´s it!, THANK YOU VERY MUCH !
PD: sorry my terrible english.... Chile present in an international forum!
I use pocket informant 8.... better cal app then the default.
SoBBie
Thank you! I´ll give it a try!
There's also Agendus that was on Palm and now is on Windows OS
http://www.iambic.com/agendus/wmppc/
thumbcal is very nice.
Actually if you are using Win. mobile 6.5 you will want to stay away from pretty much every 3rd party app until 6.5 is officially released. none of the 3rd party cal's have the information to update there software and many are creating (in my opinion) big issues with the cal. and the phone.
I was using 6.1 and PI worked great. I also liked SBSH Cal. touch but it was not as robust. BUT now that I upgraded to 6.5 I am trying to stay away from any of them since none fully work with it :'(
Thanks,
SoBBie

I have been using Agenda Fusion 8 for a few years and find it to be, by far, the most productive app on my phone. It works fine on my 6.5 ROM. I can read and write current and new appointments and tasks with no problems at all. Frankly I was surprised to see that some other apps are not working with 6.5.
If you try Agenda Fusion 8, be sure to give it a good try. It has so much functionality that it takes a while to sort through what you will use and not use. The trial is 15 days. It has a great interface for tasks and appointements. It also has the ability to create templates for new appointments and tasks to speed repetitive entry on the go. The app is stylus based and not finger friendly, but as a business application to manage my Outlook data on my phone, I have never found anything that even comes remotely close, and I have tried several.
There are several that look better, but none that are more productive.

Hi,
In order to get an overview of my appointments in different colors I have the following setup:
- I use Oggsync to sync OTA my Google calendars (category is automatically assigned for each calendar)
- I've installed 'Manila Today Page' http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508102%5C
- On the extra Manila page, obtained from MTP I've put TodayAgenda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2723505, which allows to display all of my appointments, with colors according to their category.
- I use Thumbcal to create appointments for it's 'finger-friendliness'.

AgendaFusion looks good but I dont think they ever made it touch friendly ... I will play with it again but pretty sure it is stylus based. PI8 and SBSH both are great for thumb use. PI8 has just as much functionality as AgendaFusion PLUS it has the touch feature which is very nice.
But that is my personal preferance. I want a thumb based organizer. ThumbCal works fine but I use tasks a lot and I dont know if it handles that (dont think so last I checked) but I may also take a look at that one.
Thanks,

You are absolutely correct. Agenda Fusion is not the least bit finger friendly. For me however, I can use the simple Today screen on 6.5 to see upcomming appointments. But if I really need to spend time with my calendar and tasks, I use Agenda Fusion. It works so well for me, that I do not even take my laptop home or on appointments. Everything I need is accessible through Agenda Fusion.
I did write to DeveloperOne a couple of months ago to see if a newer release is scheduled. They have stopped development becuase they already had so much functionality, there was really nothing left to do. So... no finger friendly versions are headed your way...
If I had a tool to do so, I would post screen shots, but I do not have anything.
Doug M.
Doug,
I am playing with agenda fusion... and yes, it is a good program. But, I would advice you to try PI8 again (wait till Windows Mobile 6.5 comes out and they update it). PI8 has at least as much functionality as AF but they were smart enough to make it touch freindly. I am not saying jump right into it but I would advice you to try it again. if you are still using a 6.1 ROM then I would suggest that you give it a try now... but as I said above if you are on 6.5 dont bother with it yet... but try it as soon as they build a version for it.
Have a great day,
SoBBie

Looking for good Calendar Program

Hello, I have a Kaiser and I have come to the conclusion that the Calendar on it sucks. I've been looking around for a Calendar application that works with Google Calendar, I tried Pocket Informant, which was perfect, except it doesn't work with Google Calendar.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any program I could try?
ThumbCal v1.3.5
Yupp, Thumbcal is the ****...
thank you. I was using Pocket Informant, but Thumbcal seems better, less fiddly. I was also using Oggsync to get my google calendar information from google onto the Thumbcal, but i've just found this:
http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&ctx=sibling
which allows me to do what seems to be exactly the same thing, except 30 euro's cheaper. Now I just have to "buy" Thumbcal.
I've been using Pocket Informant, but trying out ThumbCal since it looks pretty neat. How does one set a category when creating an appointment? I can't seem to find it.
And can't find a manual for the program either. It's pretty simple, but it could have 'hidden' features, or explanation for some items.
I use Manilla in my kaiser, so when i open calendar in the home tab it still opens the old wm calendar. does anybody knows how to change it into the main one ?

Depends what app using but i use SBSH Calendar Touch and have hooked into M2D with the bellow info.

The only problem with Google's own syncing program, is that it will not handle multiple calendars. :-( They acknowledge this as an issue and have offered no intention to change it.
I happen to like the stock outlook calendar, I just wish you could do colors for categories.

TF3D and Mobile Shell

I keep going back and forth between the two on my Imagio, but I think once we get TF3D 2.5 I'll be able to stick with HTC's software. Question is: Will the Imagio handle it well?
BTW thanks for the resource here!
me too, I have been going back in forth between the current touchflo version on the Imagio and SPB Mobile Shell.
Has anyone come up with a tweak yet for touch flo 3d 2.5 for the Imagio.
SPB MS 3.5 for me
I have been playing with TouchFlo since the first version on the HTC Touch and it is just too much work. I downloaded MS3.5 and I couldn't be happier. It takes up fewer resources and the customization is as easy as dragging and dropping. I use the leisure theme with a five panel widget home screen. You can add picture frames as widgets among other cool items. The contact management is integrated with Facebook automatically and the smart dial is awesome. If I decide I want to do custom icons later, I can get as deep into the xml component as I want.

See, now, I get the whole "pretty" thing with this shell, but I found it to be just too confusing because it has a lot of redundancies. On the other hand, TouchFlo by HTC is really powerful, but it needs more "clues" to find all of its functionality. Idunno..I just wish we could get this thing hspl unlocked so that the gurus can start cooking up some new roms..
TF3D does not work for me. I need to quickly check email and delete tehm on the fly and access many parts of the phone. Why cant we load the new Sense UIon the Imagio. MS 3.5 is great but the contacts and dialer are badly broken. I cant search for contacts easily by typing parts of the name (only searches file as field) and from the dialer screen you cannot get into the details of a contact to E.G. select an alternate number to dial.
I have been trying both on my new imagio, and am currently sticking with SPBMS3.5. The main reason is that for some reason, the text messaging interface with TF3D messes up my ability to rotate to landscape when replying to a message. I am not sure why...
I have hard reset, and it works for a short period of time, because it seems to be using the standard Winmo texting interface. After receiving a message from a contact, the interface seems to switch to a custom TF3D version, and I can no longer use the landscape keyboard.
Plus I like that I can have virtually all the things I need on a sweetly configured main screen at one tap.
My two cents...
Gary
The folks over at PPCGeeks have unlocked the Imagio! And there are a number of ROMs already ready for flashing. As for TF3D and Mobile Shell, I have found no issues with TF, and with the new Cookies home tabs, its even easier for me. I tried that mobile shell, and there were too many reduntant applications, and by the time I got what I wanted set up, it was several pages between what I really needed and what I needed to go through. That, and after a couple days, my phone started to really get buggy. I finally gave up and went back to TF.
Now, that was before flashing to an Energy ROM. Things are much better now! Check out PPCGeeks HTC Imagio section, several ROMS there waiting for you!
You know I just saw those this weekend and they look very promising! Especially the MaxManilla on the horizon. I am not sure whether to go with Manilla or Cookies...Any thoughts?
As for the TF3D and texting, I did some googling and found the fix. Sorry, but I can't remember, but I think it was on PPCGeeks. Had to add some manilla reg values and change one other and voila! It works now. Still not sure if I like TF3D better than SPB, but I am giving it a shot. What I do like is that SPB can have multiple weather cities. I don't think that I like the 3D mail reader on either app.
Thanks again for the tips.
Gary
