I need to update my g1, but my home and call buttons are not working. I tried resetting my phone as well (I need to sell it and need to take out my personal info) but it wont reset with cyanogen mod. Without my home button working I can access the installer either. Is it possible to install it from terminal emulator?
do you have adb set up on your computer? what exactly are you trying to do? and yes, just to be an ass, this is in the wrong section... there now no one else can tell you and hopefully you wont get flamed...

Why dont the buttons work? How can you sell it if the buttons dont work on it? I agree, they will not honor the warranty if it has custom software on it.

got wet, I can sell it for parts i guess on ebay. people still buy them like that. I tried setting up adb, but no avail.
just go to settings>sdcard phone storage>factory reset from there...and the only voided warranty from rooting is the software not hardware. But I guess it would be hard to prove that the phone isn't damaged cause of rooting...

Can't you download Quick Boot from the market? I don't really understand the scenario here, but if you need to get into recovery or bootloader mode that will do the job..
I'll give you £25 for it
Can't you get into bootloader by typing reboot-bootloader in the terminal? SU needed of course.
Moved as not Android Development.
if you want to send it in, it will have to be unrooted first. that is coming from my experiences will t-mobile. and what tutorial did you use to set up adb? i suggest using this one here

awsome, got it to the recovery, but I can't wipe or update since I can't "confirm" by pressing the home button... this sucks.
OK, I finally fixed adb and have acces to the phone.... What command can I type in to flash or wipe everything and basically return the phone to normal? (without all my info on it?) I tried fastboot -w but im not sure it works.
use an older recovery...
JF original or Cyan original dont need home to confirm

if you can't boot into recovery (home and power) or bootloader (camera and power) then your phone is bricked. you can either call your provider or htc and say something about an update, and see if you can get a replacement phone.
can i just go to the tmo store tomarrow? and then they can just give me a new one?

you could try it, sometimes it is better over the phone, but you can try in store.
make sure you sound as dumb as possible, like you don't know anything about xda, rooting, flashing, brick, or anything technical. just say something about an update, then afterward it started back up, that it wouldn't boot.

The same exact thing happened to me a few monthes back, I called them and after some bs story they sent out a replacement phone. Then once you get the replacement, you just put your original phone back in the box and ship it back to them.

but seriously though, you should try a little harder before resorting to re-rooting. You know that it may not always be possible to fall back to RC29 if HTC decides to change the keys, right? You should learn how to troubleshoot so you wont have to resort to that

Rooted phones would do more harm than good to the average user...
As for your situation, does holding the Camera or Home key not boot you into SPL or recovery, respectively?
It's likely than when you went back to RC29 to reroot, your radio is reverted back along with it, and then you flashed the dangerSPL to brick your phone.

flashing the DangerSPL then the RC29 image should have any detrimental affect on the phone. People has successfully downgraded directly to RC29 with success.
I've read many posts to that extent, but I cannot be 100% as I haven't done it myself

Yes ADP's are factory rooted, so downgrading to RC27 was a little pointless.
Anywho your phone's dead. Your "important content" is gone, that's the risk you take when you flash your device.

Check craigslist for any HTC Dream, and swap the motherboard and other necessary guts with yours. You can usually find G1's for around $25 with a cracked screen. Which you don't need the screen, so that doesn't matter.
Yeah motherboard replacement doesn't look too tricky. Search for the thread on how to recovery from a brick in the development section, it has a step by step guide with pictures.

Is there a way to remove your recovery in ADB when youre not rooted?
I did it, but i had to clash CWM 3.0.2.4 and format recovery, then when it rebooted. i did adb reboot recovery, it went to fastboot (which makes sense)
then i entered fastboot erase recovery. which might have been pointless but still did.
But my question is if i can erase my recovery through ADB when im rooted or even unrooted?

I have no idea if you can adb remove recovery.img or not, you probably could though. You would have to have r/w access to it's mtdblock. Even so, it sounds like you got it. You can always RUU which removes recovery as well. If you are really "unrooted" you wouldn't have a recovery to remove fyi. Also, most adb codes only work with r/w access to your /system partition, so unrooted would likely kill off adb, for what it's intended to do anyway. I am curious though, why do you ask/want to do this?

So i made my marry way over there, and these guys have all there phones rooted so they know what they are doing and if it might be rooted. he couldnt find the # or busybox, but he found my recovery img, by going into it manually. http://www.mediafire.com/file/zoutcenvr20udwu/RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2.27.651.5_R_signed_release.exe
Hi, recently the screen broke on my 2 week old HTC One.
Amazon were kind enough to send me a new one, but I had modded the hell out of the first one (using various online tutorials to root and then ROM it), and now have the need to return it.
So I followed various tutorials to try and restore it back to 100% stock. (Didn't bother making it "Locked" rather than "Unlocked").
What I did was I used the HTC One All-In-One Toolkit, and "relocked bootloader". I then tried to flash the RUU, all went well, but when I try to start it up after, it gives a blank black screen. However, after giving it a while, holding the power button, or pressing the back button sometimes results in a vibration, so I'm presuming that it is starting, but not displaying anything. I was hoping that my phone would come up in windows so I could re-flash twrp and flash Sense that way, but it does not appear.
I tried factory resetting in this state, but when I try boot it up after that, a logo comes up which is a phone, with 2 green arrows forming a circle inside it, then a green arrow pointing down inside that.
Also, flashing twrp.img seems to go well, but when select "recovery", nothing happens, it just seems to boot up normally.
I am now at a loss of ideas, as this process was suggested by all the sources I could find, and it works perfectly for them, see no reason for it not to for me.
If anyone has any idea how to fix this, please, please respond as quickly as possible, it has to be with Amazon by the 4th, and I have no clue what to do!
Thanks,
-Accudio

Thanks a lot guys, you've been a great help! 2 more questions for you if you don't mind:
1. The ROM I found doesn't seem to work properly, so have you got any ideas of ROMs of Sense 5, no root, so it will appear to amazon that it is stock, even if it isn't exactly, or do you know where I can get an RUU and how to flash it to get my phone back to exactly stock?
2. This won't be a big deal, but how could I achieve S-OFF to revert my HTC recovery to say "Locked" rather than "Tampered" and "Relocked"
If they aren't possible, no big deal, just would be nice if I can. Again, thanks a ton, you've saved my neck! xD
EDIT: I am downloading a different ROM to try, so hopefully that will work better.

You should be able to unlock your bootloader again with the unlockcode.
If I'm not mistaken, in order to flash a RUU you need to:
- Flash stock recovery.img through bootloader+fastboot
- Flash stock boot.img through bootloader+fastboot
RUU should flash now whether bootloader is locked, unlocked or relocked.

I flash recovery via fastboot and it is successful...includes a "recovery" option under bootloader options but it just flashes a disclaimer screen and quickly goes back to bootloader screen. Without custom recovery I cannot root this phone which is my goal. I have tried to reflash other recovery images, including cmw and twrp - I believe cmw is on it now but it won't open.
Hoping someone can assist me with this.
Thank you

Reflash whichever recovery you plan to use then remove the battery and put it back in then hold the volume down button and then press and hold the power button at the same time and the phone should then boot to recovery. Make a backup after so you have something to fall back on just in case.

Are you actually holding both buttons down at the same time until the screen turns on? Don't let them go hold them both down until your screen lights up. Then select recovery but if it doesn't work then try below.
Try flashing this version of twrp https://twrp.me/devices/htcdesire510usa32bit.html ... If you're not in the USA I need to know.
Flashing twrp didn't change anything unfortunately. I recently tried re-locking my bootloader and attempted to flash stock images back to the phone but when I press "yes" to the question about voiding the warranty before unlocking the bootloader again...the disclaimer just flashes and the phone won't let it.
Also, I cannot seem to restore it to stock through the menu...nor the bootloader screen.
So now I have "tampered" and "Relocked" banners on top of bootloader screen.
One the upside, the phone itself works fine (I currently only use it for wifi).
Only thing I can think of is I originally flashed a corrupt recovery img (or incompatible version).
Hoping you or someone else has any ideas as to how to get this thing working again. I'd be happy with reverting completly back to stock and starting the process over..

What service provider are you using?
Don't toss the unlock code you got from HTC you're gonna need the very first one you got keep it forever.
I'm using Boost but I think I figured it out. It ended up being a corrupt download of cmw. I actually used an ruu to get back stock and now the whole process went smoothly. Just looking for a rom that fits...got any recommendations in that area?

Not really since everyone has their own tastes but I'd advise you to create a backup in your recovery so you can use it in case something goes wrong. Currently me and a friend are working on CM13/12..

Funny enough I never made a backup before and constantly have to re-locate stock images due to soft bricking. I now am making backups so as not to go through that again.
I have a question perhaps you could answer -- if I install a rom that doesn't include any additional tweaks such as extended personaliation options in settings (transitions, etc, etc.)..is there a mod I can flash to achieve that?

For extended personalizing other than developer options, I'd use Xposed.

The USA model because myself and rb don't have the EU phone to even test anything on it.. We still have a lot of booting problems right now. I'd say if you wanted to help I'd have to ask what you know about building roms from source? Have you done it before?
P.S: There's already a CM-12.1 available for the EU model although it does have some issues.. You should read about it if you want to try it..

It's pretty cool and fun once you get the hang of making things and seeing them function right, and the other thing is... You'll need a pretty decent computer to compile/build with and it'll need to have at least 4GB ram (more is better) and about 50 to 100 GB hard drive space for building your rom plus the CM source code needs to be on your system too...

Well how fast is your internet? By the way.. I'm using a Linux operating system... What are you using? It cannot be done on Windows unless you use a VM.
Hey, I also faced this problem but I find the solution and successfully flash twrp
