Working out new kind of boot... :) - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So ive stumbled across something and i need a little help, does anyone know how to extract the framework res folder out of the rc29 DREAIMG.nbh file?
I came across a tool in another forum but it didnt work right...
Or could someone flash back to rc29 and adb pulll it for me? Or find someone who is root their g1 and pull it off theirs quick?

http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=extract+nbh+file&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
First link takes you back to xda.

Thats the exact tool i tried but it isnt working right, just not doing it for me...im trying to fix it but anyone else have an idea?
When i try to extract the folders i type from the C:\NBH>
NBHExtract DREAIMG.nbh
and its states that DREAIMG.nbh isnt a valid nbh file could not open tempfile.dbh
I was thinking that the .nbh files from android might not work with the winmo type files and the tool...

please...i dont want to re root. ultimately if I must, I must.

Help with TouchFlo2d/Manilla

I've had my at&t tilt for almost a year now and I've been using the default theme.
Today I saw some TouchFlo themes and they look so sweet and I've been trying to get it on my phone all day.
First off, I completely suck at any programming so this is probably why I need help
I downloaded the file and extracted it to my phone, now I don't exactly know how to install it on my phone. There's a setup that when i click on it, it shows a bunch of code things for example: - <wap-provisioningdoc> - <characteristic type="Install"> are the first two lines and they go on for so long.
I don't know if i need to put any other software on my phone that will read that setup differently, or I'm suppose to do something else?
Please help, and thank you for your time.
Pictures is what I have, and what I'm trying to get:
Bump ^
do you have TouchFlo Manilla 2D installed on your device ?????????
If not you need it to run the manilla themes you have pictured.
before you ask where to find it..................the answer is use SEARCH.
Or just look at the sticky at the top of this forum
I downloaded it from this link:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mkxonf7smhx
first I put it on my computer, then hooked up my phone to my computer and copied it to it. Not sure if it's supposed to go somewhere specific, I just put it under my documents.
here's a picture of what the folder looks like if it's correct
So basically from what I've been reading is how do I actually Install it on my phone, I copied the downloaded .zip onto my phone which contains a Setup, but that Setup seems to be doing nothing. I think I'm missing something else needed to install it.
by any chance is it a ".cab" format?
if so, DO NOT open with winzip.
just copy to phone and click it to install.
EDIT: yeah it a .cab
hmm, I used winRAR to extract the files i downloaded onto my computer first, then I copied them over to my phone.
Should I not extract it at all and just put it straight to my phone? and also, I've been reading a lot about .cab files, and nothing is saying it's .cab...lol i'm just completely lost
oh lawlz, i think i figured it out.
Ya i was extracting it before,
this time i copied the file directly
to my phone and i can install it

[SOLVED]Effect_tick.ogg

i want to change Effect_tick.ogg in the /system/media/audio/ui
i try to overwrite it or delete it or movie it and im denied even in su mode.
how can i take a ogg of the same name from my sdcard or computer and switch this sucker? this is the sound file for the the screen selection setting and i want to change it.
possible? how? adb push/pull? other than adb?
Your best bet would probably be to unzip your current ROM, throw it in there, zip and sign, and flash. I don't think little files like that can be over-written.

trying that now. i would have to resign and stuff right? i never done that hmmm
okay i unzipped the rom, took MY effect_tick.ogg and threw it in the unzipped rom, rezipped and signed and the error i got while updating is WRONG DIGEST and it named the system path to my effect_tick.ogg i tried putting in... hmmm im asking cyanogen i first wanted to to it on his ROM. i do realize this is a sound and path not exclusive to his ROMs but its worth a shot thanks for the help

CAN'T FIND RUU_Signed.nbh FILE IN THE STOCK ROM

I'm using the x1a (n.america) and i figured in order to make a backup of my firmware i would need the NAM (canada) stock rom instead of the UK one. (correct me if i'm wrong plz). And so i found this stock rom on this site, the exact one, even my provider's name was on it, and i downloaded it but it just came as an exe file and when i run it it just extracts/installs an image file (215mb) in a folder specified by me. In the tutorials it says that i need to put the RUU_signed.nbh from the stock rom in the kovsky folder... but i don't see that file anywhere, is it the same thing as the image file installed by the exe file? Do I just rename it and proceed??? PLZ answer this if you can because i have everything else prepared to flash my phone but this is the only thing holding me back...
Yes, if you're using the RUU method rename it to RUU_Signed.nbh if you're using the SDCard method rename it to kovsimg.nbh.

You need to extract the RUU_signed bit from the image i am having the same issue and i write software for a living. Are you following the tutorial on how to back up your rom?
video guides
Im actually following BioVolt's video guides which I think u can find on this site if u search biovolt's video tutorials? they're really good and detailed but they're kinda long.
The exe contains a .img file, just rename that to kovsimg.nbh, and copy to the root directory of your memory card, and flash it.

it's not for flashing it is for doing a ROM dump in all the tutorials it does'nt tell you what clearly to do with the stock ROM once downloaded. But now i know along the same lines as your idea It just needs renaming to RUU_Signed.nbh then place this in the same folder as the 4 files you have allready extracted.
I have watched biovaults vids good but a little long for me.
I am in the same situation, and I'm totally new to flashing/backing up Rom's.
I'm also following BioVolt's Videoguides to start with but can't get hold of the Stock UK Rom.
Since I purchased my phone in sweden, unbranded I perfer to use swedish stock roms (If this even matters anyway?!).
So just to get everything straight, can I just download "Generic Sweden R3AA009 Software Update" from the sticky here in the forum, extract and rename the .image file to "RUU_Signed.nbh" and use this when I'm dumping my rom or did I totally missunderstand you guys?
Thanks in advance and sorry if I'm just way off with this question.

The reason we use uk roms is cos they they are WWE(world wide english) and the kitchen needs this to dump the rom.
the one you end up with will be an exact copy of your stock rom.
Yes just rename the uk one
Allright, thanks alot! Really helped me out.

Uhm, I'm not sure really.. But ensure that you put the "Kovsimg.nbh" in the root of the storage card, not in any other folder. Might be a stupid answer but you might have missed this lil' thing.
Good Luck, Anton.

Checked that...could it be a matter of storage card hardware? I had few problems writing on it through the card reader.

Might be, but you still should find the file if you successfully transefered it to the storage card...
Just to be sure, you haven't reformatted your storage card recently? It has to be in the "FAT_32" format to be flashable..
Can't really think of much else that gives you these problems..
So even if I'm using the X1a i should dump my rom with the STOCKUK rom? I read somewhere that if i flash my stock rom back on my xperia after it's been dumped using StockUK rom then my phone won't be able to connect on 3G etc.? Is there any truth to that, because im finding it impossible to dump my stock software using the NAM stock rom, kovskykitchen tells me that it cannot extract the ruu_signed.nbh

It must be uk ROM due to it being the only one that is guarenteed WWE the kicthen won't recognise anything else and when you flash back it will be whatever stock rom you currently have.

[Help] How to Get Bootscreen

So i found this but dont know how to get it to work on T-Mobile G1. If any one knows how, can you please help me ?
http://rapidshare.com/files/323951279/Nexus.Sound.rar
what are you asking how to edit the eclair bootanimation? or if you can add sound?
Oh, sorry. What im asking is if its possible to get the NexusOne bootscreen on T-Mobile G1 ? The files i provided are the NexusOne bootscreen files that a dude over at some other site put on the web. Though when i apply the files to my phone the way he said it doesnt work. Im wondering if any 1 knew how to get this working on G1 ?

Depends. I'm pretty sure those files are the x sparks that come together, these can only be used in an eclair rom.
bootanimations
you can get the nexus bootanimation or you can make your own. this post has some that i did. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623907
or just extract the zip and edit the images in the part0 folder. they must be .png and must be 320x480. make sure you rename your images to something like 00.png 01.png and so on. then using either winrar or 7zip select both the desc.txt file and the part0 folder and add the to an archive name it something like bootanimation.zip. make sure you set the compression to store. then connetct your phone to the computer and using adb push the zip to the media file in the system. the rest of the instructions are in the other post. this has worked every time for me. just when you want to change the images you must extract them and then make a new .zip or it wont work.
as for the sound i am looking for an answer to that question myself that is the one thing i havent been able to get to work yet.

Haret.exe Android Install and Boot from Windows Mobile

*Update: These instructions now seem to be outdated. I will started an updated thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=648045
------------
(sorry I tried to post some live links, but the forum won't allow them cause I'm a new user, so this may not be as helpful as I hoped...)
I just spent some hours wading through the forums to find complete instructions for installing the newer android builds using the WM haret.exe linux booter (rather than flashing the entire phone and loosing WM) on my touch Vouge.
I am a bit of a newb, but since I did not find complete instructions, and had to figure some things out using trial and error I thought I would post what I did figure out here in hopes of helping others.
First ignore the install instructions here. sourceforge.net/apps/trac/androidhtc/wiki/HowToInstall . They are old and need to be updated.
Erase all previous android files from your sd card
Go here: sourceforge.net/projects/androidhtc/files/
haretinstall.zip
open the zip and place the andboot folder and all its contents on the / directory of your SD card
then download eclair252_androidinstall.zip
unzip eclair252_androidinstall.zip to get androidinstall.tar
copy androidinstall.tar to your sdcard /andboot folder
(unnecessarily steps deleted - see below)
Then on your phone's file explorer run haret.exe from /andboot folder on you sd card
click run and immediately hold the volume switch up as linux boots
the boot menu appears. choose install
if the installation hangs hold volume up again, and choose quit
As I said I'm new at this, so my instructions may be off or misguided. If so please post with corrections. I just know I was looking for a guide like this and couldn't find one so hope this helps someone.

Actually, you just answered my question (which I never posted) about NoRootFS.... Thanks for posting this!!!!
THANK YOU!!!
can you explain what is the benefits of doing it this way compared to the way its always been for me. it was as simple as downloading the sqsh package zip file from my favorite build here. witch included all the files i needed to run anroid. I copied the android folder from the zip file to the root of my sd card and simply ran haret exe. It used to be complicated but not now that most builds include all the basefiles needed for boot. I never had to hold any volume buttons or install anything. i probably look dumb for asking this.

Although I have not yet tried myself because I have a Polaris and WiFi is not yet working, my understanding is that NoMoRootFS makes more space available for the ROM and makes it easier for developers to roll out updates. In the thread for Myn's (most excellent) Warm Donut, there are several themes and updates that can only be applied to Rev2 if you have installed via NoMoRootFS.

correct. with the OP method, the .nbh file is just taking up space. you never need to do anything with a .nbh file if you are using haret. OP, please fix and I will add to my list of FAQs, otherwise very informative. thx.

Did didn't get past the Linux menu. It only ran for about 4 or 5 seconds then locked up. I had to soft reset to get my phone functioning again.
I did exactly what the instructions in the 1st post said to do.
Downloaded andboot file to \storage card\andboot
Downloaded androidinstall.zip & placed in the andboot file
Clicked haret.exe
Selected run while holding up the volume key
I read in the post that the below items were not necessary so I skipped them:then download vogueeclairnbh.zip
unzip vogueeclairnbh.zip to get VOUGIMGx480.NBH
copy VOUGIMGx480.NBH to your sdcard /andboot folder
I'm running stock rom. My carrier is nTelos (CDMA).
I notice that your rom version and radio version are not the latest. You may have to ungrade those before you can get it to run.

always good to have latest radio. i don't know if it will interfere with you booting linux, usually it creates problems with gps or data once you are in android. but who knows, anything is possible I suppose.

I've always wanted to update me ROM but there is not a Server cab out there that will give me back my settings for nTelos. Its a small cell network therefore no one has bothered to create one (I really can't blame them). So I've never tried it out of fear of Bricking my phone. For some reason nTelos did not offer WiFi, GPS or MMS with this phone through their network (didn't know that until AFTER I bought it). They have it for other phones but not this one for some reason. That was a little annoying when I 1st got it but I've leaned to live without it. I love my phone even w/o those things. I get pics emailed to me & can email them to other's phone through their carrier address (eg [email protected]). WiFi would be nice but I never use GPS. As far as the Radio. I assume it sort of the same step. I pretty much have to install it & it will wipe out or "Hard Reset" my phone, right...causing me to losing all my network info?
Here are the files I have in the andboot folder:
androidinstall
default
haret
initrd
READE-BASEFILES
zImage

** I could not file the "eclair252_androidinstall.zip" file to download so I downloaded the androidinstall.zip under the "2010-01-05" folder from sourceforge.net/projects/androidhtc/files/. Could that be the problem or could it be a combination of my Radio/ROM & the androidinstall tar I downloaded?

you should be able to update your radio without touching your rom, there is a radio only version of 3.42.50, see the faqs noob guide to flashing, it is in there.
I am unsure what you downloaded; it looks like you have the right basefiles, but if you got androidinstall.zip from 2010-01-05 I don't think it will have anything compatible with the norootfs method, and is probably causing your problem.
delete androidinstall.tar, download this and drop the androidinstall.tar that is inside into your sdcard/andboot/ folder. then run haret and keep holding volume up until you see the install menu. then post back.

OK. Same thing...phone locks up at the same place. I downloaded the file you attached & downloaded the VOGUIMG.nbh file that was linked on PPCGeeks. I followed the instructions on PPCGeeks post "This is the vogue radio 3.42.50 designed for the vogue (this is not the titan port). I removed it directly from the bell rom and recomplied it as a radio only .nbh. This is a radio only rom designed to be flashed from bootloader from sd card and doesn't require a hard reset. Copy VOGUIMG.nbh to root of fat32 micro sd card 2gb or less and place phone in bootloader and it will run."
I still get the same outcome. Both your attachment & the VOGUIMG.nbh file are located \Storage Card\ on my phone. When the Radio instructions say its designed to be flashed from Bootloader what exactly does that mean? Do I need a program for that or is it suppose to start when I Run the default.txt after I select haret in the andboot folder?
the place you got the link to the radio only version also has instructions on how to flash your phone - see the before starting area. short: get into bootloader mode, then flash.
I still think there is something else that you are doing wrong, I just can't put my finger on it right now; i'm hoping others will be able to help.

OK. I figured out how to get it in bootloader mode (power button + camera + soft reset). The Red/Blue/Green screen pops up & then a Grey screen that says "loading...". Its been "loading" for over 5 minutes now. What could be the problem?
