Hey guys,
so new roms like villain 3.0 etc have the 3d gallery app, which is really awesome! I was thinking, if I were to install such a rom, find the apk and install it on a regular hero rom(adb), would it work?
here's the apk, if ya have android 2.0 it'll work i think
got the apk, get the following msg: gallery could not be installed on this phone, gonna try pushing it through adb
adb install /Users/*/Desktop/Gallery3D.apk
1409 KB/s (702677 bytes in 0.487s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/Gallery3D.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_OLDER_SDK]
damn, adb push doesn't work, and that message is what I get by using adb install, suggestions?
Chances are that the app requires APIs not available in earlier versions of Android.

yea that's what I thought, probably no way around that huh?
cuz I don't like those unstable 2.1 roms
you could always try edidting the build.properties file for the rom you are using and change the sdk version to 6 or 7 and then re-zip and reflash that worked for a couple apps from the cdma 2.1 build that I wanted on my phone however there where some that wouldnt work

So we've found the app/widget now we just need help installing the widget... Any help
-Just take off the .zip and enjoy
Code:
adb remount
adb push HtcFootprints.apk /system/app/HtcFootprints.apk
adb push HtcFootprints.odex /system/app/HtcFootprints.odex
adb shell reboot
Anyone happen to have the apk and odex? I can't find them in any my old Hero builds and would like to use program and widget... Thanks!!!
Ah bummer, I finally find the Footprints.apk and it force closes as soon as it starts on CM 3.6.5

Beats me I don't have a Hero Rom.
what is Footprints app for exactly?
beware,
htc Footprints can only be used on HERO ROMS won't work on 1.5 regular cupcake, JF, Cyangen or others.

thank you!!! ya still was looking for it... Will try it and let you know. You installed box the odex and apk n still it wouldn't work on Hero?
I tried installing just HTC footprints apk and odex via adb just got errors. Might try again later.
I am using a hero Rom on a magic.
i was able to get the odex to the app_s but when i install the widget it gives me error
"Failure [Install_Failed_Dexopt]"
If anyone knows what that means can you please help? Thank You
Yeah that's what I get when trying to install just the normal app from that zip. Can't figure it out as of yet.
When I install the. Apk from this thread it at least installs but crashes on opening. I think we are missing something

Thats weird bc i've used this footprints i've uploaded the whole time and still use it without it crashing. what error do you get when it crashes?
Try this.
adb remount
adb push HtcFootprints.apk /system/app/HtcFootprints.apk
adb push HtcFootprints.odex /system/app/HtcFootprints.odex
adb shell reboot
I was pushing to /system/app_s/ originally and that's what kept giving me the error. I don't know the difference between app and app_s, maybe app_s is just a system link or something.
Anyways, pushed the odex and apk for footprints and the widget, and it works, no crashing so far. widget works too.
it gives me a error: Read-only file system.
and even when i try in rootmanager it wont let me change it to r/w it stays on r/o
I can't seem to locate it anywhere.
Can somebody tell me how to get the IM application working (I'd like to use AIM, MSN)? I have unlimited SMS so I'd prefer to use that since I have no data plan
he removed it. he tweeted about it. it saved like 10mb so it was outted.
I see. I'm trying to get it from an older version since I need that thing!

Of space and ram
I tried installing a copy from the last CM build that contained it, no-go.
a dummy IM app appears to still come with CM but it blocks me from reinstalling the tmobile one (refuses to overwrite a bundled app). I guess I get no IM unless I switch to a different rom that still has it

That app was bad anyway, why not try one of the IM apps from the market instead? They will have more feats that you will like, you canhave custom status mess,etc..

ok, so i am very new to this metamorph thing. I have recently dl the paid version, aslo have dl andexplorer. i am currently using a
samsung galaxy spica with i570xxjce(2.1) with LkMod v. 2.5.1
of which has root (su) and busybox.
The problem i am having when attempting to load the Metamorph app is, i'm being told that "some file could not be extracted and set up. please make sure you have enough free space in /system and that busybox is installed."
I have installed Root Explorer. Deleted many different stock apps and ringtones. Still the same message. I am trying to figure out this using connectbot for terminal commands. Ive google'd the snot out of everything and still nothing. I have read many forums and still nothing also. Is there anything else i need to know?
Please help me

FIRST OFF, MORPHS ARE SPECIFIC TO ROMS. you MUST HAVE THE ROM INSTALLED THAT THE MORPH IS COMPATABLE WITH. thats NUMBER ONE. since most of the most COMMON MORPHS ARE FOR CYANOGEN/SUPER D, that is ONE reason why its not working. i am 99 percent positive you CANNOT load a super d/cm rom on a samsung.
well i appreciate the reply. But Stephan is working with me to get his program to work with samsung.
I have samsung galaxy spica rooted with leshaks 2.02, is there any chance I could use Buuf 2.51 theme on my Spica. I really love this theme and dying to get it on my mobile.
Apparently google was pushing new market update to all the android runnig phones, is th market update process working in our froyo port? I'm asking as I still have the old version of market.
Sent from my Not So Super Froyo using XDA App
Right here at attachements.
Works on my Kaiser
Just open the .apk with a file manager on your phone and install it.
It will replace the old Market.
Nice looking market BTW
Update doesn't work on mine...
Running Gingerbones 5.1 Odexed... Possibly due to the fact that Market is Odexed in this build.. :-(
why need update? the current market is working well on cyanogens 6.1, or no?

Oh, god no. My phone and pushing are not a good combination.
Can't connect my phone using ADB.
When I want to start up my pc and my phone is connected, it just freezes at the Splash screne until I pull my phone out. Then it boots normally.
Yeah that's probably because it's odex'd. I don't really remember on wich one I tried. If I'm not mistaken it was on Clemsyn's Final Froyo Build.
Downloaded it somewhere off Megaupload. Got the link from some video on YouTube.
I've managed to odex the updated market, and use Terminal Emulator to transfer it to my /system partition overwriting my original market, and it seems to work. Granted I had a gapps FC at boot, but restarted without a hitch.
So far no other FCs, and Market is fully working. Though not sure how many apps I still have available. :-/

I did similar, got the file, sent it to the kaiser, odexed it, sent it back to pc.
Edited my androidinstall.tar, replace old market with new one.
Its working so well, that it detected a gmail update and installed it perfectly (no manual input).
the old market gave me errors doing that, had to manual update.
Nice
Great work
could one of you post the odexed new market?
many thanks!

same here on polaris with scoot's Kernel With Separate Cache Partition.
also no dialog to choose between charge only/hard drive/etc when connecting to booted pc via usb.
adb does work though, just make sure the drivers are installed on your pc, connect and wait for >120s before calling "adb wait-for-device". once your prompt reappears you are connected and ready for e.g. "adb shell".
use "adb kill-server" and "adb wait-for-device" when you get disconnected (not exactly stable) - i use WiFi Keyboard and WiFi File Explorer from market instead.
Just found this on Android Central
Grab the new market apk while its hot
Either get it from the source link on the post or I've attached it below.
Put it on your SD card and then use file explorer to find it and install.
I just installed it on mine and seems to work pretty good. Nicer look than the old market.
How did I know that the Eris would be one of the first places for new apks.
Thanks!!!
wow thanks will try it out.
imma bout to try it
EDIT: It doesnt install with MP3[SPEED] rom that sux

Try this:
This should pull the market apk currently on your phone and save it on your computer as a backup:
adb pull /system/app/com.android.vending.apk com.android.vending-backup.apk
Then push the new apk. This should rename the file as the previous apk and push it to your system/app folder:
adb push com.android.vending-1.apk /system/app/com.android.vending.apk
Then reboot:
adb reboot
Then try launching the market.
I am going to load it on a GB and XTRSense5 tonight and see how it works. any one else have any input on this ?
Input about how it runs? I am running GSB 3.7 Odexed and it is very stable. It takes a little time to load initially, but after that, I find the user experience much better than the previous market design.

I'm pretty new to rooting seen, so I appoligize if this question is dumb. But, on my Eris, all I have is a vending.apk file. So, is this the file that I need to replace with the new market apk?
It should run with either name, but I would make sure that you don't have more than one in there. That should be the one that you replace, though.

It's listed as Vending.apk in your screenshot. Same thing happened on my phone (GSB 3.7), and it worked fine after I replaced and rebooted.
Noob, first time posting...
Came to this site on my phone (via xda app). Downloaded file. Hit "open" and it went through the install process but finished with "Not Installed". Any thoughts.
Rooted Eris, Froyo 2.2.1, CM7, KaosFroyo V39
Edit: Never mind. Did the adb pull/push after flashing GSB CM7. Everything works great.
Has anyone seen this......
I can search the Market for games, books, and movies and find results. When I search for apps, I get no matches for my search. I've tried this with multiple versions of the market and multiple ROMs.
I've got content filtering set to show all.
Any suggestions.
Same here. Works perfect.
