Sorry if this has been asked before but I could not find it. I have downloaded GPSTest from the market and it finds about 5 or 6 satilites, but when i go to google maps it never finds my location. I am using Myn 1.6 build withthe 3.45.50 radio. Can someone tell me how to get Google maps to use my location.
In the past I had some trouble getting my location also. What I've done is opened GPStest got sat locks and then went directly to google maps my location showed up immediately.
I had that issue until I went to 3.42.5, I am running same setup as you (Crackeyes)

Every time I use the Track Location feature, it fails. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and it still won't work. It takes me to San Francisco instead of Chicago(which is where I live). It used to work the week I got the wing (about 2 weeks ago). It's pretty much stock. I don't use any ROM's and have even performed a clear storage. Any help would be appreciated. I have done a search.
Still isn't working.
It tells me to check the GPS settings. I haven't changed them nor do I know how.
Have you tried with a GPS receiver? (If you have access to one)
I have found that the track location feature while sometimes is surprisingly accurate most often is only close enough for a general location. Good for a local search but not close enough to pinpoint my location with accuracy.
But discrepancy that is off by states I have no idea. IT gets your location by triangulating from the cell towers, maybe there is a glitch in that area that is unidentified. It isn't something you could ask your provider about (actually they might have an answer or be able to help but I wouldn't bet on it), even though they might be at fault. You might see if you can report it as a bug to the google mobile maps team and see if they will respond.

Try a different phone radio firmware. Mine used to fail when I used the newest Radio. It's either that or the information about your towers has been set up incorrectly on google's servers. Find someone in your area with a phone that you can install google maps on and try to see if the problem is still there. If it is, contact google about it.
That just happens sometimes with Google Maps.
I live in germany and sometimes Google Maps says I am somewhere in France or Spain (one time even somewhere in the atlantic or pacifik...)
Just wait some time and try to locate again (don't restart google maps).
If that doesn't help, walk around a bit and try again.
Everything else works, browser market etc. Tried both 3g and wifi. When i open google maps it does show my location but doesnt load any map, just white (with some lines) background and when i try to search for something it just indefinately searches.
Tried restarting the phone... no help...
No idea whats wrong!! is there a problem with google maps?
Same problem here.
Happened to me too, a while back. The problem fixed itself after a day or so though, so my guess is that it was some kind of temporary peering issue between me and the Google Maps servers.
i have the same issue.
It used to work befor but till yesterday its not loading any map data.
so after reading all around the internet, several cracks, and a couple of factory resets, i have almost completely given up on getting google maps to work on my Fuze. i have tried two versions: an old 2.something that worked amazingly on my blackjack 2, and the latest version straight from the website, neither of which will get me my location or use any GPS of any kind. from what i hear there is no GPS unlock for the Fuze, it comes unlocked (not sure if thats true) but i do know that the only thing i can do is check traffic and get directions. is there something im doing wrong? or something you guys know that i dont? any help at all would be fantastic as im taking a road trip this weekend and dont feel like breaking out the blackjack 2 for old times sake
it takes a looooonnnnnggg time for it to get a lock. Here's the method I use:
1. Start the GPS Test program... this was on a custom rom i have but you can also download it... search for "gps test version 1.04" using google
2. wait
3. wait some more...
4. Once it says GPS started, quit the program and start google maps. If it's not already enabled, choose GPS from the menu and enjoy.
Start>Settings>Phone>Services>Get Settings>Location [ON]
This setting was turned off by default on my phone. After I turned it on, I was able to download GPS info with QuickGPS and use GPS on Goggle Maps. It allows third party software to access your location.
Searched the forum and couldn't find an answer.
I'm on a Sprint Vogue having trouble using Google Maps with any of the ROMs I've tried (Myn's Donut & Eclaire and Incubus's Eclaire).
Usually I just get: "Your Current Location Is Temporarily Unavailable."
I have temporary luck about every 15th reboot and then it stops working again after a few minutes.
Using the GPS Status app, I'm able to get Lat/Lon info so I know my GPS is working.
Any suggestions for something I need to be doing or enabling?
Thanks,
Jason
Are you installed on NAND or SD? If SD, does it work in WinMo? I personally have no trouble with it installed on SD with Incubus' latest Froyo (or any build I've used).
Also, where are you using it? Big cities with tall building can make it tough to get a signal (in case you weren't already aware).
strange, i could never get the my location right when i used to be on winmo, but no probs with android these days. i use myn's warm donut on sprint vogue.
some often, easily ignored things you might want to check: have you set your location in your google account? maybe your data connection halts when gps is launched? installaion problems - both android and/or gps? if installed on sd, bad sectors? perhaps you need to update google maps? idk.. just speculating
Assuming, your GPS is not broken and it worked under WM, move to a different location.
I get that message, when I'm in a specific location in my building.
Everybody, his gps works, he can see his lat and long...
Your best bet IMO is this response

Just to clarify for some of the questions:
Yeah, GPS is definitely reporting correct Lat/Long - confirmed by plugging the data into Google Maps on a desktop in various locations (work/home).
GPS worked just fine in WinMo.
Oh, and this is NAND.
Google Maps not finding my location seems to have no bearing on my whereabouts - in my car, at home, at work, standing in a parking lot... it's the same wherever I am.
I'll re-try those suggestions when I get a chance - thanks. Maybe I did miss something.

Just an update on this issue:
No matter what I tried I was unable to convince any Android build to make Google Maps find my location.
So I re-flashed to back to Win Mobile (yuck). Downloaded Google Maps. Found my location. Re-flashed to Android (FroYo). And now Google Maps in Android finds my location just fine.
Not sure what could have caused it to stop working in the first place. And definitely not looking forward to the next time it stops finding my location.

that is odd. Did you update your radio at all to a newer version that might have helped?
Yeah, weird.
No. I'm running the standard Sprint radio which I think is x.x.30.
Has anyone experienced issues when Maps is trying to get a location? Can't get one, not even setting it in High accuracy. Seems odd for Google to modify control of GPS like that, i don't want my device turning it on even if it's for a short period of time. Any feedback will be apreciated.

I was having the same problem, Google Maps took forever to locate me and did not work in the end. I uninstalled the latest update and it seems to work now. The newest update screws it up.
