i need help with my phone. mt G1 doesnt read the sd card. it started after i replaced my trackball. i did everything and nothing, and ive searched everywhere and no help. my G1 cant read SD cards at all, like its not in the phone. Can someone help????
Sohas anyone ever had this problem? Because this really sucks you can't do anything without the sd card, so if anyone knows what to do please let me know thanks
Its happened to me before but it went away. try re-formatting it.
I had this problem when I was taking pictures when I first got mine. Format the card to Fat32.
I did. I have two sd card a 1g and a 4g, and they are both FAT32 and I formated it and its still the samething. I wouldn't mind the phone without an sd card its just a ***** cuz most of the stuff you use on the phone requires the sd. And my camera is now force closing grr. I love my phone but its realllllly starting to piss me off.
so i was bored while being emo-depressed and i changed the whole G1 phone case except for the screen and the sd slot for the other G1 doesnt work too, so im guessing its a software problem. so im screwed till i eventually call HTC in the morning. Oy vey

I don't know how but yesterday all of a sudden I open my SD card folder on my phone and nothing showed up although I checked the free space and the card was not empty. Then I soft reset the phone two times and still no results. Next I did a pim backup to the sd card and did a hard reset and after i did the pim restore it showed SOME content on the sd card that was there before. The only thing now is that my Igo folder and a My Documents folder on the SD card have just vanished into thin air never to return. Does anyone know what might have caused this?
I'm assuming no one knows what may have caused this or no one has had this happen to this before. I think this is the weirdest thing ever. I didn't even install or edit anything different on the card. Oh well i guess it's a mystery. I better call scooby doo
hey i have read about this on the forum, can't remember exactly what it is, but try searching storagecard2/storage card3 problem, its related to that.
Thanks man I will check it out.
Yea, search. I had something like this happen to me and I had to buy a new card. I just got a new card. But I did read a post about someone having this happen and they got it fixed.
Bro. Find someone with a Blackberry. Put your SD card in it and format it through the Blackberry. I tried formating my card with Pocket Mechanic and that program was useless. An error came up so I put it in the blackberry and voila done. No need to buy another one. BTW there was nothing wrong with my card. I just wanted to refresh it.
Crackberry is good then, huh? I tried formating with my PC, PocketMechanic as well as some apps from ScanDisk, etc but NOTHING would fix it. I havea dead 4G card sitting here that I can not get formated. Now, I just need to find someone with a crackberry.....
my sandisk 8gig died on me to the point that my phone couldn't recognize it...and neither could the computer(s) through the sandisk usb adapter.
bought a kingston 4gig as a quick backup...and wouldn't you know it, the kingston usb adapter read the sandisk 8gig card on the computer.
anyways, there are sd card programs that can do the format on the computer...might want to check those out...

Highly unnecissary I would put anything I own near a crackberry. That is the most garbage phone ever I think if blackberry made a touch screen phone they might get more customers.

My TILT won't read my microSD card, and when I put my microSD card into my computer it reads everything fine... and the phone does recognize microSD card being there because it does say "SLOT : in use"... WHAT DO I DO?
I looked everywhere to look for a solution to fix this (googled and did search on this website)
I love my phone a lot and I do not want to pay hundreds of dollars to get another WinMo phone.
I did soft reset, I did hard reset and I have flashed different roms to fix the problem.
And I called AT&T, they do not have any refurbished TILT available for them to send me one and since I don't have insurance, I can't get a phone like fuze or anything for cheap...
Help me, I want to use this phone for longer...
this problem is giving me a BIG HEADACHE.
Anyone want to help me?
Did you search yet? This question comes up often.
Run a filesystem check on the drive, it might fix it.
how do i run filesystem check on the drive?
like take the microSD card out and put it in my computer and do something?
I don't understand. I am pretty tech-savvy and I know how to flash roms and etc.
But I can't believe it's hard to understand what filesystem check is.. HELP
My microSD card is not corrupted if thats what you mean. I almost wish that was the case.
I think reader on my phone is broken... (hardware)
because like i said on my first post, I put my microSD card to my computer and everything worked fine and I inserted the card back into the phone multiple times and I even tried to format and redo everything. AND NO LUCK.

Put it in your computer and do a filesystem check on it. Right-click on the drive or such... Can't tell you the exact steps, don't use Windows.
I am telling you there is nothing wrong with the card.... but i did do filesystem check on it regardless. it said my card is fine. so what would be the next step?
like i said, my slot is broken, is there anything i can do to fix it?
Have you tried another card in the phone? That would rule out the card discussion.
If you didn't have another MicroSD around, you could also try reformatting the card as well, making sure it's in FAT16 or FAT32, not another format.
Well...I dropped my Tilt in January, other than a few scratches, nothing seemed wrong...until I wanted to use Tom-Tom, I then realized that my tilt no longer recoginized my SD card. So after alot of card swapping, card readers and the like, I gave up. My Tilt's SD slot was still functional, when I would insert/remove the card, the screen would light up, but it could not read ANY card inserted, and when in File Explorer or Total Commander, I could not select to view the cards contents, they simply did not see the card. Fast-forward 4 months & I dropped it again & PRESTO! My tilt started recognizing my sd cards again. Funny thing is that my girlfriend suggested I drop it again & see if it would start working, but I disregarded that suggestion thinking to myself "this isn't a old TV." I still have intermintent problems with my tilt not recognizing my cards, but a moderate tap on the bottom/top of my tilt & a soft-reset usually gets things going again. I suspect loose contacts in the slot, so until I jump ship, a couple taps a week won't kill me. Hope this helps.
Well I recently ran into an SD card problem. To find a solution I have searched many forums and Google. None have offered any solution. On my search for answers I have found at least 100+ G1 owners with the same problem. All posting within the last month. The error we are getting is "SD card removed. insert new sd card".
All threads I have come across have suggested to reformat the sd card, repartition, use ADB, cyans recovery image, to fix this problem. None of the above solutions have worked. A majority of the threads the G1 owners were still able to use there sd card with there pc.
Now I know this is in the right section. We need a developer to figure this out. A g1 without a sd card is like a g1 that is bricked. It is horrible not being able to download, play music, shoot pictures, ect.
i ran into this issue on a friends g1. came to find out he dropped it and the sd card would neved get seated correctly in the sd slot. i had to wiggle it a bit before the phone recognized it
Now we are getting some where. This solution didn't help me but might help others in the future when they use the search feature.
I had this problem on one of the roms I was using, maybe Dude's cupcake?
Wipe of the phone fixed it.
I have whiped and upgraded to new roms. My problem began when I entered a command into terminal to fix another problem. After that I whiped and updated to cyans.
I have experienced this 1 time only. When it happened to me, I removed it from the phone completely and checked it in my card reader. It picked up on the PC just fine and everything was still intact, so I knew the card was still good. I rebooted the phone without it and then shut down. Reinserted the card in the phone and booted into recovery. I ran the fix partitions thing and rebooted again. Problem solved. I personally haven't had any other problems since then. I was told on another forum as well that when you flash a new rom or even a new theme to run the partition fix included with cyans recovery. Something to do with apps2sd I think? I have just gotten into that habit and no more issues. Good luck.
I think I might have changed a path on my phone while in terminal and thats what is causing my problem. I can't get cyans recovery because my phone isn't reading the sdcard for me to install it. Also, good post I am sure your solution will help many!

Same for me. With Dude's it wouldn't read my SD card. Wiped, installed Cyanogen's ROM, wiped again, and the problem instantly went away.
Have you tried another SD card in the device? One that you know is good and working in another unit. I screwed up one of my older smaller cards trying to make a Goldcard. It has never worked since.
I tried that a few days ago. No luck there. Im glad were getting this thread going. So far I see a lot of good solutions. Best part about this is all the information is all in one place! If anyone has any input please do tell.
Do you have another card to test out? Have you tried to mount/unmount the card with the phone on? I know if a rom has built in apps2sd the unmount/format option is grayed out. Maybe try to take the card out with the phone on and reboot and then put it back in? Not sure what all to try. I know I was frustrated when mine was doing that as well.
This would happen to me all the time with the camera. I would take two or three photos, then I'd get a message that I need to insert an SD card.
I think the problem was the card. I was using a Patriot 4GB Class 6 card from Fry's. I switched to a Transcend 8GB Class 6 card and have not had any problems since.
It sucks having to buy a new card if you already have one, but $18 for a good quality 8gb card is pretty reasonable.
I have class6 card that does this.. I also have other card that don't .. in the case with my class 6 card it works fine untill I use it for apps to sd, wich in my case renders it useless..
It's word cuz it will load everything fine and run, but then freez up in the middle of use. That's when I know it unmounted itself. Then I'm forced to pull battary out or reboot.. I have truer every methed to fix it with no luck...
Mine is a 4gb c6 card and other than the 1 time, I've had no further problems. I have run A2SD for quite a while even before it was included with different roms.
First comment: Why is this in this section.
Most of these I've seen have been mechanical (poor card seating) - poor card contacts. Swapping the card has always removed the issue for me.
I've had 2 cheaper sd cards go bad. they looked like they worked fine when i put them in a card reader and plugged into a linux box -- but only at first glance.
further inspection revealed bad sectors and damage to the storage. Since i got a nice class 6, it has seemed fine -- i think you get what you pay for a lot of times.
Not to be crass, but this does not belong in this section of the board. Just because one seeks the expertise of developer, doesn't make it ok to post a thread in this forum.
My $.02
I agree, I also think it was cards that were just made bad I guess that's what I get for buying a cheap class 6 transcend from target lol..
Bad SD Card Slot
This happened to me to a week ago after flashing a new Rom, thought I do not think that the flashing had anything to do with it. I tried everything wiggling it , cleaning connection, reformatting. The card worked in other phones and computer but mine. I just think it went bad. Nevertheless after 5 days of getting no where I had T-Mobile send me a replacement

I should add that I also tried 2 new card as well both class 6
this is in the right section. If you havent noticed this a spread problem among many. We have tried other Sd cards. They do not work. This is a internal problem. Thats why its in the developers section. This post will save others from having to post about this same issues if they can find all the answers here. That being said if you have a problem with it maybe you should explain to me why brick threads, ect are ok in this section? There is nothing wrong with my sd card. Just like there isnt anything wrong with the other 5 sd cards I tried.
Google this you will find a lot of people having the same problem.
so i just got my buddies old g1 to mess around with. it didnt function at all when he gave it to me, had to doa hard reset to get it to boot. but the problem im having is the sd car says its blank and doesn't format or anything. ive tried different sd cards and they all work in the comp,i reformatted 2 of em. ive searched google for an answer but cant get it to happen. anyone got any suggestions or could the internal sd slot be shot?
does recognize when a sd card is inserted and removed
does not recognize or format any data on the sd card
is there any way to fix this? and would it be a hardware issue or software?
It sounds to me like the sd card reader built into the phone is broken.
Yea that's what I thought, is that seperate from the mainboard?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
yea i got the same thing but im not good with adb enuff to flash a diff rom back to where i can use phone memory for pics and apps any sugestions? on how to do that?
My unbranded htc hd7 has been working perfectly for a couple of weeks now, but recently started to have problems. I switched it on after changing sim cards (which i believe i did perfectly, didnt drop or do anything wrong) and it then says..."storage card cannot be read", not allowing me to go any further. I then try to hard reset the phone, which gets the phone to start up with no problem, but now says it only has 12.5mb of storage available (my sd is 16GB, and is the same one issued with the phone).
I've already counted my losses with the stuff i had on it and i'm willing to format the SD card if it means fixing this issue. But Is there a way to fix this via bootloader or something else that will not void my warranty by me having to physically dissasemble it. Your input is very very much appreciated...
There is an option in Zune which lets you wipe all your data on the sd card:
Settings\Phone\Synchronization Options
Nah that didnt seem to work. When i click on erase, it erases the 12.5mb doesnt seem to find the sd card
Sounds like the SD card has become unseated or corrupt somehow
Let me know if you find a way of formatting the SD card without removing it.

Thanks for your input.
I suspected the same thing, so i removed the back cover and the battery, then used a "caveman fixing tactic" of banging the bottom part of my phone with my hand (didnt want to damage it by hitting it with something harder and again didnt want to open it), and its working. Tried banging it again after that to see if it will stop working again but seems to be fine now.
I know this is just a minor (silly) fix and will go to htc to complain about this fault and see if its loose in there because i've never hit the phone hard before this (besides hitting on my hand of course, which is the first and last time i'm doing it) and nor have i ever dropped it. I still havent ruled out the possibility of a faulty sd card, or an error that seems to be appearing with others after the recent NoDo Update.
hd7 sd card issue
I have exactly same issue, the first time (from new) i turned on it did see the sd card and then i inserted a SIM and did a reset and now it just reports 12.5Mb memory always. I have opened it, voiding warranty to remove the 16gig sandisk card and re-insert it many times but still doesn't see it and yet never reports any error like 'cannot detect sd card'. Next i flashed from O2 to a unbranded ROM (from this forum) and still the same and now doesn't even detects the SIM! Next i tried a new 1gig sandisk card.. still does see it (not sure format is required for wp7).. the orignal 16gig card cannot be read or formated on a PC tried using a pc dos format, low level format, sd format programs but pc never assigns drive letter to it.. so hd7 is scrap unless someone can suggest something to resolve.. i suspect the SD card interface from phone is faulty.. gona try the banging on table method next and hope is smashes to bits put it out of its misery!
Had the same issue with my phone. now stuck in bootloader mode. now have given up and using lg optimus one.
Mine is doing the same thing only showing 12mb even with the stock sd card. Did anyone ever get this fixed?
What version of WP do you guys are on? I noticed after each update, the system seems to grab more space on the card. That said, there is a option in Zune settings to change the available storage via slider, may be you have got that set to 12gb somehow... May be try to change it and c what happens then. I personally don't have this problem, even after modifying my hd7 so I can swap sd cards as needed (hard reset required but kind of useful)
Sent from my HD7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I modded my hd7, too. But I never had this problem.
Did you mod with goldcard method or hspal/rspal???
the sdcard has password on it and can only be read through the phone unless you somehow did something to file system and lost the password than you can fix it.
Fix 12 MB
it fix my sd
enjoy your HD7
