Diamond GPS working ONLY in flight mode - Touch Diamond CDMA

Hi everyone, I'm from Venezuela and my carrier is Movilnet CDMA, recently I adquire a HTC Diamond, my previous phone was an HTC 6800, I will try to explain my trouble, but I'm not any good in english, so here we go:
1. The GPS works very well and locks in my city, only when it is in flight mode.
2. The registry key SUPL AGPS is empty by default, however I try every single tweak and GPSModes whit negative results.
3. In another cities of my country the GPS works flawless, even with filght mode on or off, I travel some cities and in some is working and in others simply not. This trouble is common for other CDMA HTC devices, i.e. HTC6800.
4. In areas with no coverage the cell phone, the GPS locks consistently and quick.
5. QuickGPS does nothing in my phone, it download data but I think the GPS doesn't use the data downladed.
6. All above happens to all people with diamond and another CDMA HTC devices in my country.
7. Our carrier doesn't use agps, in QPST all boxes are checked, the IP and port are set to 0, however I disable all boxes and I don't see any changes in performance of GPS.
The original radio was 1.12.34F, but now I'm using 1.12.20 because is giving me better gps results.
The ROM is stock, and the test was done with Garmin XT, GPSTest, VisualGPSce and HTC GPS tool, also instaled GPS fix from HTC and cleangpsdata. ;-)
I need some help for solve this issue, Thanks.

ya intentastes ponerle otra version de windows? chekale haber que pasa...
alamejor y es un problema con tu version

No
Hi, changing the rom is not a option, another people that I know has done that whitout positive results, the GPS trouble still the same. Anyway, there is no CDMA spanish ROM out, also I don't want to loose the phone warranty. Thanks BTW.

GPS TomTom Not Working

Heya, I have done the registry Tweak and GPS are visible I have setup Com Port 9 but tomtom will not work. I get Waiting for a vaild gps signal for ages then it goes to cannot find GPS Device.
My SPV M700 Information:
Operator Version: 19.123.1.615
ROM Version: 1.23.61.5
ROM Date: 01/25/07
Radio Version: 1.30.00.01
Protocol Version: 32.63.7020.08H
Network: Orange
Location: UK
I would perfer not to have to flash it but if i do need to could someone please post a guide.
Regards
Nick
try to configure gps in tomtom, like NMEA baudrate 9600 com port 9
Doesn't let me choose port 9, only
com3
GPS in com9
com7etc.
I choose com9 but any signal of gps.
Regards,
MM.
Ok.
Done.
Problem only with the signal that was to weak.
Great.
To Nick and mmelo
Did you only do the registry tweak to get GPS icon enabled and it started working???? or did you also flashed your ROM ? Because as far as I know, you do need to flash your ROM to get GPS working and the registry tweak is only to get the GPS icon. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I haven't flashed my ROM as waiting for genuine HTC ROM, but if only enableing GPS icon can get gps working then I might try that cause nt really want to flash with Dopod Rom.
Thanks.
I got it three days ago...
For Orange SPV M700, it doesn't need to do anything to have GPS, just install tomtom 6, and choose com9 GPS~~
So Orange SPV M700 (UK VERSION) has gps enabled ??? Ofcourse it would be better than the french version. Is this UK's gps enabled Orange ROM available anywhere? My HTC P3600 is unlocked and unbranded UK edition bought online.
Or any news of HTC ROM upgrade?
Thanks.
Working
Heya, I've got my GPS working it was just a matter of low signal.
These are the Settings i used:
1. Tweaked Reg to display GPS Icon.
GPS Program Port: COM1
GPS Hardware Port: COM9
Baud Rate: 4880
Manage GPS Automatically (Ticked)
Tomtom set to COM Port 9
Note that it can around about 15mins to recieve a GPS Signal and tomtom does try to say there is "no device found" while finding a singal but this is wrong. It is still trying to find a vaild singal it just takes awhile, but after setup once it connects quicker there after.
Thanks
Nick.123
But why does it take up to 15 min to get a valid signal?
It could take about 20 sec.. :\
I have mine set to:
Program port: GPD1
Hardwareport: COM9, 115200 Baud
Manage GPS automatially
Also in tomtom nav i got GPS setting of: NMEA GPS with 115200 baud.
And its connected to COM9 (not GPD1 as one could think, its not even an option). In the latest tomtom 6.030 custom for htc 3600 among others its possible to choose internal GPS device too.. i think i got that working if my mememory serves me right. But i downgraded coz I had some map-problems
I use RUU_Trinity_HTC_WWE_1.23.800.2_6275_1.35.00.11_Ship as ROM. Before I tried the dopod verision, i got it working there too.
Sometime I get the signal after 1-2 minutes, sometime I need an hour for it to lock on some sats , not really reliable, I hope the oficcial ROM remedies that. A friend of mine has a bluetooth GPS for his trinity. It takes him between 2-10 minutes to lock on to sats even with that.
A tip for those with tomtom's that lock up and freeze sometimes.
Press the PHONE button to get your dialing screen, from there use the startbutton to start tomtom again (it doesnt reload the program it just hands back the control to the current running tomtom), then you can use it again. It doesn't always work though, sometimes it's necessary to reset the phone.
Sorry people, I'm an absolute moron when it comes to programming etc - so none of this is English to me.
I've recently got the M700 and am aware of the GPS being encrypted. Also, being an Orange member of staff, you would think that I'd get some kind of help from our "technical team" when it comes to unlocking the damn thing - but alas, they "cannot do it".
So, here I am, asking for a little help in getting the GPS activated...Pleeeeease
Hi, i have flashed may HTC P3600 with TRIN_RADIO_1.38.00.11_Only_SSPL but it does not want any to know to go!
Mine puts into effect them situation is:
ROM : 1.15.408.2
Radio ROM 1.38.00.11
Version extrom 1.15.408.101
Versione Protocollo: 32.71.7020.12H
TOM TOM 6.030.
I have tried all but I just do not succeed to make to go it. While com the 9 do not appear to me just in tom tom, and then I asked myself if before the gps it had to be found from the bluetoth. I have tried also with gps tuner but it says to me gps not found.
I ASK AID!! PLEASE HELP ME.
Hello, I have done the following thing and everything without problems has worked me:
1º) Is necessary to install some of the ROM that has the activated GPS. In my case: RUU_Trinity_HTC_WWE_1 [1] .23.800.2_6275_ 1.35.00.11 _Shi p.exe.
2º) Later, I have updated the Radio with TRIN_RADIO_ 1.38.00.11 _Only_SSPL (this step is not essential).
3º) After it, I have installed drivers of the GPS for ROM Lvsw (HTC_GPSdriver.cab).
4º) I am modifying key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ ControlPanel \ GPS Settings to activate the icon of the GPS, so that it appears in Settings / connections, in that I have put: GPS prog port: GPD1; GPS hardware port: COM9; Baud rate: 115200.
5º) I have installed the TomTom, version 6.030.8320, and in the Gps configuration: GPS type: Other nmea GPS; Baud rate: 115200; GPS in COM9.
The first time has taken about 4 minutes in taking satétiletes.
Second and the later ones, in about 15 seconds…
I hope that this helps somebody… GREETINGS (excuses by my English incorrect one, but the fault has the translator of google... )
hello, I take or but of two weeks with the ROM of Lvsw with the activated GPS, to people it gave problems him of blockades with tomtom, I haven´t this problem , but this weekend I have made a long trip and I have realized of which tomtom is hung when 3G or UMTS is no signal, that is to say, that the GPS lets work when there is no signal of 3G, I have proven it xq I have put I telephone in GSM and the GPS is not connected, but i have active 3G in telephone, the GPS activates at the moment in he himself place where without 3G not it connected, and for that reason tomtom is blocked when losing the signal of 3G becomes crazy and it is blocked, I hope that somebody knows like using the GPS without the signal 3G
is tomtom navigator 5 working, too?
here in germany they sell tomtom6 in the vodafone shops as a special VPA compact GPS-version. But did anyone try tomtom 5 yet?? Just asking, 'cause I need maps including germany and poland - but the new western europe coming with TT6 don't cover PL. The TT5 version is still available with DACH PL CZ-maps... So please tell me if someone successfully runs TTN5 !!

M700 & Tom Tom Freezing
I have been trying to work out why my M700 freezes when using Tom Tom Navigator 6 with maps of Western Europe.
Turns out it is the speed camera's POI from other countries that causes it.
So remove all the speed camera POI and it works fine. (Not sure which "Speed Cam. POI country " is the calprut, but left only UK on and this works.)

GPS is already active on the Orange M700, for some reason your Marketing Department hasnt bothered pushing this as a feature at all, but hey-ho.
To get it working get tom tom 6.03 OR search for GPSUtil125Setup.exe this will show you your GPS and get it talking. Otherwise arent sure what GPS being encrypted has to do with anything
BTW slap your IT support department cos last timeI phoned them I had to teach them about the phone

GPS on my Kaiser not working ??

Hello,
I bought a brand new 'HTC - Kaiser' (precisely a 'HTC - TyTN II' directly from Orange in France), in order to replace my old 'HTC - Hermes'.
First, I was surprised not to see a GPS option in the 'Communication Manager'. As you can switch ON/OFF wifi or bluetooth, you should be able to switch ON/OFF the GPS, isn't it ?
Secondly, I installed Tomtom v6.032 on my PPC, but I could not get any signal at all. I went in the options, and tried with all GPS option devices, with no success.
With 'Built-in GPS receiver' and 'Other NMEA GPS receiver' options, I always have "No valid GPS signal !". Do I have to start GPS somewhere on my PPC before starting TomTom ?
Thirdly, I looked for help on xda-developers.com here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1735972&postcount=112
I followed his recommendations, I changed:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\GPSOnePort]
"CommPort"="COM1:" (instead of: "COM0:")
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Multiplexer]
"DriverInterface"="COM0:" (instead of "COM4:"
And it after this I could have some signal. But then after shutting down Tomtom and reopen or after a soft reset, it does not work any more, at all ! What happens ? I don't understand.
Why my GPS just not work out of the box ?
Please help ! I switch to the Kaiser for the GPS feature, and it does not work :'(
I tried all my test outside with a clear weather, waiting for about 3 minutes each time.
it should work right out of the box.
for me (i have a tilt) gps is on com4. i use tomtom and you have to make sure the correct com port.
I could be wrong but I believe that in tomtom if you get the message "no valid GPS signal" that actually means every thing is set up correctly. you just need to wait, could take some time. tomtom starts the gps itself. watch the leds on the phone. when GPS is on the right LED will flash.
you may want to check out some other programs. tomtom does seem to take a little longer to get a fix in my opinion.
BTW check out my signature, you can use navizon and make some money once you get that gps working
There's no seperate GPS connection. The GPS just uses your data connection. If you can connect to 3G, then your GPS will also work. Try using Google Maps and clicking "Use GPS", leave your phone in one spot for a few minutes and see if you can get some sattelites that way.
As always, someome smarter can correct me if I'm wrong, but this is from my experience.
There is no way to "turn on" gps, programs access it when they need it, and it's off when they don't
Your first fix can take up to 45 minutes, although min eonly took about 5.
If you look in the extracted HTC cabs threads, you can find a program called "HTC GPS tool" Run this and select "clear memory" as the option, and that'll get a fix after a while. after that, After soft resets you should use "cold start", I think...
After this has fgot a fix you can use other programs on the COM4 channel.
Hope this helps
I have had my Tilt for about 2 months. Recently, I took a trip from L.A. to N.Y.C. As soon as I got to NYC, I ran QuickGPS, but was entirely unable to get GPS to work at all during the week I was there (queens, manhattan, roads, etc).
I posted an inquiry about backing up and hard resets. Rather than getting an answer to the question, I was given direction to make sure my GPS really didn't work.
That chain pushed me to GPS Test v1.04 by Chartcross. It is free, and can found on the web and on this forum. In NY I could not get a signal no matter what even running it.
When I landed in LA I ran it again ... it stayed at "Starting Up" for a while, but then miraculously started showing bars.
So --- I recommend that you (1) run Quick GPS, (2) install this program, and (3) let it run and run and run. Also make sure you are in an area where GPS is accessible.
It can take a very long time to get GPS to work on the tilt. Many times, it takes longer to find a signal than the trip you were hoping to TomTom through. Its the nature of the beast.

Yep, like all the others have said leave it fore longer. 3 mins isn't enough time. If after 30-45mins of being left in one place (no moving it around!) with a clear view of the sky for the first time and TomTom is still saying "No valid GPS signal" then start worrying...
Thank for your enthusiasm. I carefully read your post, here is want I discovered:
You mentionned about having a 3G data connection. First I was wondering why do you talked about that: this as nothing to do with GPS. Then I thought I should give it a try. Up to now, I haven't yet put my SIM card in my brand new 'HTC - Kaiser'. I didn't mention it in my 1st post, as I though it could not have a link with my GPS problem. I put the SIM card in the phone, then started Tomtom, I was surprised to see that a 3G data connection was automatically started, and a few seconds later, the GPS worked perfectly.
I can't believe it, I could not have the GPS working because there was no SIM card in my phone !
First I thought that the data connection was for retrieving Tomtom traffic info online, but then I discoved that even with 'HTC - GPS Tool v1.1.1.0', a 3G data connection is started prior to getting my localization.
I read about QuickGPS, and learnt that it is the thing that causes the 3G data connection to start prior to getting my localization.
Why is QuickGPS starting automatically ? Is QuickGPS compulsory for localization ? Can I stop this behavior and have everything running through GPS ?
Chris
MAYBE IF YOU TR THIS ONE
I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT WORKED FOR ME
JUST ASSIGN THE INCOMING PORT TO COM4, AND OUTGOING VIRTUAL COM5

GPS and 3G have nothing to do with each other. They are too completely different things.
GPS does not need 3G to function!
Some GPS programs (like google maps), do require a internet connection to download data, thats when 3G comes in (not necessary, could use wifi and gprs instead).
What is strange is that in Orange ROM (at least in France), a GPRS connection is made automatically each time you want to use your GPS. If the GPRS connection is NOT successful, you can not use the GPS (with tomtom, or any other testing GPS tool). How can I change this behavior ? I do not have an unlimited GPRS subscription !

It's required GPRS connection because you might have selected tomtom plus services such as Traffic, Weather. Just to be sure, take out your SIM or turn off the radio to see what happen. BTW, flash a different ROM is another choice.
Did you installed Google Navigator as my Kaisers GPS unit stopped to work after i installed GN?
On Orange ROM (in France), everytime you want to get GPS, you first have to connect to the Internet. It is not link with TomTom Plus, because even with HTC GPS tool software, you need to let the phone automatically connect to the Orange network prior to getting your location with the GPS. If you do NOT have a SIM card and the possibility to connect online with your phone, you get NO GPS location.
Please, help

As NGHIEM said above, flash a new ROM and this behaviour will stop. Try Duttys or Schaps for best stability etc.
I am using an AT&T Tilt with Garmin Mobile XT and there is an option to turn off Internet Data (Traffic, weather, etc.) in Garmin. If I want to use the GPS with no radios on I have to disable the Internet Data option otherwise the program tries to make that connection first and never acquires a fix. That may be part of your problem. I also just tried the HTC GPS Tool with no SIM card in flight mode and it got a fix in under 2 minutes inside my house by a window. Garmin also started fine. The GPS is an independent receiver and should require no other data. It appears that some other program is starting along with the GPS and trying to access the Internet. Like others have said before you can probably solve your problem by flashing a new rom.
I think I have found the solution:
- In the registry change:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS]
"EnableAGPS"=0 (instead of: 1)
Now everytime I use my GPS (with HTC GPS Tool, or Tomtom), the automatic GPRS connection is not started !
Please give your feedback about this.

What is this file about ?
I've searched and searched but couldn't find it (only references to it in other ROMs). Could someone either please post the HTC GPS Tool.cab or point me in the right direction as to where I can find it?
I know it's in a couple of ROM releases, but I'm happy with what I have now and just want that file.
Thanks, guys!
EDIT: Nevermind, guys. I found it. Thanks!
No card is found
I have installed TomTom on my new Kaiser and downloaded the free citymap, but when I then run TomTom it says: No card is found. What am I doing wrong?

My diamond GPS does not work

Hello,
I am trying since yesterday to make my GPS working, with no success. Everytime, I got the following message:
Cannot find port com. I do not know what the problem might be. I tried all Ports (from COM 0 to COM 12, and all Baud rates). Tried 3 differents GPS applications. Memory Map tells me for Port 0 GPS communication timeout...
In addition, I tried to play with the External GPS. I tried with Manage GPS automatically on and off. Still the same..
I begin to think my GPS unit is defective...
Any ideas would be appreciate.
Thanks very much in advance,
Philippe
did you change settings in the gps control panel?
the default settings can be left alone. COM4. Baud rate should be automatically handled and unless you enabled AGPS any baud rate will do, if you enabled AGPS then I think you have to use 2400 as your Baud.
I just noticed the GPS harddware port in setting, system External GPS is not saved when you click ente.
Exemple I choose COM4, and Baud rate: 4800. I click OK. When I reclick exernal GPS, Hardware, I have got ''none for GPS hardware port. I do not know if it might be one of the reason why the GPS does not work.
Note: I just flashed the new rom: 1.35.401.3 WWE. Might it be a bug in this ROM (just question?)
Philippe
I can cofirm TomTom working with COM4 and baud 57600. Signal pickup can be time hungry, tho. Sometimes I get a fix in 20 seconds, sometimes it takes as much as 10 minutes.
no problem using mapking...
Hello,
And thanks everybody for your help. I just updated to the new Elite 1 ROM, and now it works like a charm....Very good...
I do not know if there is many francophones on this forum, but there is a new french forum about the Diamond:
http://htc-touch-diamond.forumactif.info/index.htm
Not very busy yet, but....
Cheers,
Philippe
Same problem... The tomtom 6 don't detect my integrated gps... if i chose the wired and put ports like say before, it don't work too.. Any way for detect integrated gps?
Here are exactly my setting:
Setting system External GPS:
GPS program port: COM 4
GPS hardware port: None
Baud rate: 4800
Manage GPS automatically is checked.
So open your GPS program, choose COM Port 4, and baud rate: 4800.
Should work. If not, flashthe new Elite ROM. It could help too.
Philippe
I can't flash the rom, it will make the warranty expire... And the mobile isn't mine, it's destined to be selled, i work on a gsm shop...
got exactly opposite problem - when I leave these default settings in "External GPS" CPL, the Diamond will suck my batterry within several hours, as if the GPS was still ON. have found out that if I disable all settings in this CPL, it stops sucking power (but then I can't use the GPS, obviously) - any clues or solutions?
I HAD to enable Windows Mobile manages automatic in External GPS in 'settings'. Check if it is enabled.
Disabling it made GPS never work.
Strange?
Yes, unless I restored all settings to their original values (Virtual port - COM4, HW port - None, Managed access - checked), I was not able to use the GPS. But these were exactly the settings I was having the battery drain issue with... I miss the GPS LED indication vastly...
I am have this problerm too...
Solution : make hard reset.. no more!
And all will be ok ... about GPS.
i have same proplem
i have same proplem when i updat to the new rom 1.93
I have a similar Problem.
I Updates my ROM to the new branded one from O2-Germany and since then my GPS is not working anymore. in GPSMapware I get device.exe errors and TomTom7 keeps searching and searching and so on...
The old O2 ROM has no GPS problems and every software got a loc in about 10 - 20 seconds.
But the most intresting point is that my brother has a Diamond too and no GPS problems at all.
I think I will get a new one from O2 before flashing it and loose my warrenty
Telus CDMA Diamond
I've got problem too. First Diamond I had no problem with GPS, something happened with the phone I had to exchange, and new one (phone) GPS wouldn't pickup Sat. I'm on Telus CDMA. Maybe they removed physically on the second batch of Diamonds.
My GPS doesn't work too well either. I can usually get a fix eventually when outside with a clear view of the sky but in the car it is hopeless. I use TT7 and the GPS status screen shows that the Diamond can see maybe half a dozen satellites or so but with very low signal strength. The bars stay grey for ages and then eventually three or four will turn blue and all the time the battery is draining like crazy. I also have a Holux GPSlim 256 and with that I get a fix much faster and the signal strength is much higher. I can also use it in the car with no problem.
I have to say I'm pretty disappointed with the GPS performance of the Diamond and from the number of posts in this forum from people with similar problems I would suggest that there is a design flaw or very poor quality control. I had an XDA Orbit 2 for a while and that was far superior.
Me too
my diamond have the same problem too.
it was working with the old rom's and the early new
but later with new rom's it is locked, I don't know why or how to fix it.
then I back to the last good one but still locked.
it seem's working fine, because the software is detect the gps device and also detect it on port 4 and baud speed, but without signal any more.
I used Garmin, Destenator, iGo, fanaeen, and gps test.
and I try to use all avaliable solutions
I used all diamond rom's here and used all radio version's even the hardspl I changed it too with no succeed.
any advice would be help!
thanks in advanced
Hi,
I own two diamonds and I also found problems with the GPS in both of them. Probably mine is not the same you are describing. What I get is the following:
Running TT7, the GPS works but TT7 map in the screen remains in grey color. Rarely it shows color for some seconds and l"oses signal" again. It navigates, but no messages on proximity of POIs work. Also, when driving, if TT7 is forced to recalculate (every time I do not follow the instructions), it forgets about the required destination. In the GPS configuration option within TT7 it does not show satellites, the bars are empty and the coordinates shown are grey... but showing values!
Finally, I found the reason. I use Bluefire VPN, a piece of software to connect securely to my company. The GPS and Bluefire cannot live together.
I have tried everything: TomTom 6, changing COM port (many combinations)for the GPS, A-GPS on and off... No way.
It worked perfectly in P3600. I tried many ROMS and pieces of software without problems but in the Diamond I haven't been able.
Perhaps the reason is some resident code of Bluefire. Don't know. In any case, if this is a case similar to any of you, my advice is the following:
Hard reset, install TT7 and maps and test the GPS. If it works, start installing software until it crashes.
In my case, the GPS is always dead after the soft reset required after the installation of Bluefire, and it works again after another soft reset once Bluefire is uninstalled.
Hope it helps and hope somebody can also help me solve this issue.
SOLVED
Hi guys
Here is my solution.
First you have to flash 1.13.25.24 radio rom sometimes it can be solve the problem. If not you must open your phone with Htc service manual and find gps coaxial cable and check it.Sometimes it can be pulled out.Mine antenna was unconnected and gps couldnot find any satellites.Sorry for my bad english.

Help: GPS dependances: Internet cx for activation ?

Hello,
I have a small question,
taken a look to existing post without results about a customization of Windows to disable the mandatory Internet connexion process that allow activation og GPS chip.
By default FR Orange telecom operator force kaiser to establish an Internet connection to allow GPS chip activation (Heard from support it's linked to the software they sell for GPS that need to connect to Internet for billing, even if software is not present on the phone).
Each time you launch a GPS software (like tomtom for eg.), kaiser try to make a Internet connection and if succes activate the chip.
By flashing to US Rom this function was not seen anymore, but my last upgrade to FR rom made this function back and it is a howfull constraint (country lines crossing = over taxed internet connexion if you use your GPS for eg.).
I tried to update only radio to my previous US radio but it did not changed anything so I imagine that this is a Windows registery tweak, maybe?
Did anybody allready seen this subject or have any advise to help ?

How unlock GPS in Wings?

Hello, i have problem: How unlock GPS
i read Topis "Solution GPS problem" but i don't know english very well ,
I please: Written, How unlico GPs but very, very simple language ;]
In easy english: it is not possible.
Is any Video-tutorial?
What part of 'not possible' do you not understand?
no gps in htc wings?
no gps
htc s730=NO built in GPS
(you could use your external receiver if you get one)
the voices of the built in gps is a legend, or it was present in some pre production models but in the standard commercial products there are no gps.
le voci del gps integrato sono leggende, il gps integrato era presente solo su alcuni modelli dimostrativi e non nei prodotti definitivi
??? In my wings, GPS Tool show GPS on COM4 and show 1 ,2 or 3 satelite but on more GPS is in my model, but is no fix and 1-3 satelites
NO GPS? and this Topic? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361929
there is NO ANTENNA FOR THE GPS so yu have to use an external antenna
the WINGS (i love it) is an eunuch smartphone...
