Before i decided to flash a new rom i had been having issues with my phone getting, and staying connected. At first to just data connections, ie 3G. So i decided to try a cooked rom for the first time.
But since then i've had even more troubles getting my phone connected and keeping it connected. Ive been through Hyperdragon III Opal, Dutys latest rom, and now im on the latest AT&T rom, and still im having troubles. Ive hand entered in the Media net connection info so many times ive got it memorized, ive even tried cabs, turning proxy on or off, and just plaing letting it sit for a while. It seems as though every time i try something new it might for a second but next thing i know i lose connection and can't get it again without restarting my phone.
If it helps im currently using HardSPL 3.56, and my phone is running the AT&T ROM version 3.57.502.2 WWE and radio 1.65.21.18
This is a very urgent issue for me as in my job i use my phones internet almost daily.
Ok for a while there with the stock AT&T rom it was working just fine. I went to start adding in a few cabs and it was like my phone once again decided to hate me.
Im not trying shogunmarks DeathV4.1 and have NotATreoFans AT&T v3.2.5 Loaded downloading in case the other doesn't work. I don't even really care about having a really awesome cooked rom, working is about all i am after right now.
UPDATE: Tried both of those ROMs to no effect. ive now broke down and rolled back to the original ROM and SPL that came on my phone when i bought it from the store. I pray this at least gets it working long enough for the Touch Pro to come out and me to get enough money to buy one out of contract. Still if anyone has any ideas im all ears.
Ok i hate adding a new reply or bumping this but now things are getting desperate. I have been through checked and changed every setting, tried everything. now its not just data, the phone itself wont work as a phone. Calls wont go out or come in. If someone trys calling my phone it never goes through, it wont even go to voice mail. This makes no sense at all.
All that comes to mind at this point is a defective phone. If you bought the phone new, then it has a 1 year warranty on it, and AT&T will replace it for you. If it's been less than 30 days, then just box it up and go to an AT&T store for a full exchange.

Set the phone band to GSM manually and see if you can make phone calls. If that works then search for 3G problems. There are a lot of bad devices which suffer 3G not working.

How did you set-up your data connection? Manually or automatic config?

Yea i downloaded BandSwitch last night on a hunch it was just 3G, and low and behold my phone works fine on EDGE. I can make calls, and get the data connection working.

I have tried doing it all by hand, cabs, and even the auto connection wizard. As i discovered last night it wasn't my settings but 3G just not working at all.
Thanks everyone
UPDATE: I called support after rolling my phone back to its original shipped ROM and SPL, and man did the guy at the call center almost crap when he heard how early of a ROM i was using. He said i have to install the newest update first then if its still borken (considering ive had the newest one on here before, i already know the answer to that) that they will send me a new one since im still in my warranty period Yea for customer support
i bought a used g1 no physical problems took it into a shop and they couldnt find anything wrong with it internally so im guessing its a software issue....dont know if this guy i bought it from tried to mess with root and messed something up but im thinking its some sort of software stuff....can anyone PLEASE help!?!?!?!?! i either get this phone fixed or keep using my nokia that seems like its from 1998 and its killing me!!!!!!
What are the stats of the phone? You can check the versions in the settings\about phone area. Model #, Firmware version, Baseband version, kernel version and build number information would be helpful.
Is it already rooted? If not, you may want to go ahead and start reading up on the root process. Some of the newer builds may or may not help the issue. But if it isn't rooted and you arent getting a signal, it very well may be a network issue. Also, does your phone service have a data plan? Has the phone gone through and passed all of the sign-in procedure? (being from another country, I am not sure what all you have to do to activate your phone) Sim card good?
thats the problem i did a factory reset to input my gmail info and now i cant get past the damn activation screen! ive been through all the customer support through tmo and cant figure anything out!!! im goin crazy
also ive found this webpage http://developer.htc.com/adp.html that has recovery, system and radio images from htc and every time i try one of them it comes up and says no signature or no verification.......not sure what to do
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452316
you cant apply those because your phone is not rooted. learn what your doing without randomly flashing everything that can killed your phone. and yes, you can kill your phone permanently flashing the wrong **** (i.e radio/spl)
Hello all!
Just to start things of, I have read trough the forum and I've googled around alot about this but it doesn't look like anyne has ever posted what worked to fix this.
If there's someone that has sent in their kaiser to have the mb replaced could you please send me some sort of email where they state it is a factory problem? the warranty is out and I really don't want to pay for a new mb on this 2 year old phone.
I've tried several different radios and none of them work, currently using wm6.1 downloaded from htc.com.
Problem is as the topic states it doesn't work in 3g. As it tries to connect to the 3g network it just searches, but never connects.
Some of the threads I've read says that the ppl get it working sometimes, but for me it never happens.
I have got a working 3g simcard, and I've tried the card in another telephone and there it workds perfectly.
The phone is a HTC Tytn II
Anyone that can help me? thanks
It still just sounds like a radio problem. Have you tried the whole list of radios? Trying "several" might not be enough. As long as you have hardSPL'd your device there's no harm in trying the whole list of radios from here, starting with newest first and working your way up the list.
I'll try them all.. back in an hour .
There.. tried them all.
It connects to a 3g network, then when I try to make a phonecall or data session it just disconnects.
the closest I got was with the neon 1.58.25.17 where it was still connected even after the failed phonecall. It just beeps a couple of time and then it says I'm not connected to any network.
Just a little thought...
I've read that wcdma here in europe is at 2100 / 900.. but in my phone I can only choose between UMTS 2100, 1900+850 and 2100 + 800.
No I'm just dumb sorry..
Why not get it checked out professionally?
Maybe it's a damaged tracer inside the antenna sticker. It shouldn't cost much to get an HTC service centre to access what's wrong (although if it does require a new motherboard and they don't cover it under warranty, it'll probably be uneconomic to repair. Make sure it's fully reverted to a from the factory state (no hardSPL and original ROM/Radio/SPL) before taking it in though.
Well, that is the next logic step.
As I said in my first post, I have read on other forums aswell as this where people have had problem with this exact same thing and if anyone of them had it fixed with software I'd like to know.
You could buy a broken one on ebay for parts and just swap out that motherboard for your own instead of sending it to HTC. Its fairly straightforward to replace it.
Regards

If you've restored it back to an as from the factory state (with all original ROM/Radio and SPL) and it's no longer behaving as it did when it was new (test with the memory card removed) then that proves the difference must be due to hardware changes/failures if you test it in areas where there's known good 3G coverage and the same sim gets good 3G coverage in another phone. If you haven't done this yet, I'd suggest you do (you didn't say if you changed back from hardSPL to OEM, it shouldn't make a difference but at least you'll know it's 100 % original). Preferably test it with an HTC WM 6.0 ROM/Radio/SPL. If that doesn't make a difference, before rushing out and spending money on motherboards etc, get it checked out by an HTC professional - the small cost of such testing may save you more money in the long run on parts that aren't actually needed. A work-around that's been used to get reception (although not in 3G) is to change the band just to GSM from Auto.
Good luck finding someone who's been through your exact scenario but this is something you can do in the mean time.
Hi ldjocke, I live in Italy and my Kaiser works fine with 3G (checked with Vodafone, TIM and 3 operators...)
Looking at band selection in phone settings, I can found:
Auto
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)
GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)
UMTS(2100+800)
Choosing Auto it succesfully connects...
In Italy GSM uses 900 and 1800 and UMTS uses 2100...
Where do you live?
Hello Ppelleg.
I'm in sweden, and got thesame settings as you on my phone.
Afther reading through this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335074 I'm confident that it's a hardware issue. Sending it in and will be back with information.
Just wanted to close this thread.. I sent it in for repair and as everyone said in the thread that I linked to in an earlier post it was the 3gcircuit that was burned.
But.. the price it cost me to fix it is the same as buying a brand new HTC HD2 (6880sek) and that's just not right.
Still looking for anyone that has gotten it in written from htc that the tytn had a couple of faulty boards. There should be some way around this massive amount..

What did the the HTC repair centre had caused the board to fail? What did they say when you questioned them about having heard of such an issue with older models of the phone? If the price was going to be astronomical, they should have contacted you to get the go-ahead first (unless you'd given them authority to go ahead no matter what the cost).
Some points to put to them.
While a new member, I've been following the community a bit and have flashed my Captivate successfully several times.
It started acting weird earlier this week (lagging and shutting itself off) so I decided to re-flash it and re-apply SRE with all the goodies it brings.
Since my last flash, the phone works fine (calls, messaging, and Internet) except for one problem - the Android Market.
I can access the market but am unable to download anything. I've tried many different solutions, ROM's (JF2, JH2, and JH3), 3G/WiFi, internal settings, clearing the Market cache, Dalvik cache, etc., using Market Access and going outside of AT&T's allowed applications, all to no avail. It's the same whether I attempt to download after a fresh flash or after applying SRE. I've also tried Unleash the Beast.
Finally I decided to call AT&T to find out if there was a problem somewhere on their end.
Here's the weird thing:
The IMEI I have on the sticker under my battery is that of a Captivate and matches what they have on record. The representative I spoke to told me that the IMEI I have in my phone's menu is an iPhone IMEI.
With all that being said, I have two questions:
1) How did this happen?
2) How can I fix it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Iphone imei starts with 011. That rep doesnt know what hes doingp
did you ask them to update youe imei number? would likly fix it, could have just been an accident, from what i have read about 10% of imei number are not unique so somehting could have gotten messed up server side

also a quick google of the 0049 imei shows that there are several iphones with that imei
The rep who I've been working with is off today but she said she'd call me tomorrow. I'll ask her to update the number and hopefully she can.
Unfortunately, while I'm pretty much a noob to all this, I've found that I still know more than most of the people on the AT&T side and the rep I've been working with is the most knowledgeable of the group.
Did you go from an iphone to the samsung if so, it could be a translation issue on atts side which means the billing system never updated the imei to the switch because it errored out on the billing side happend all the time when i use to be a switch tech for att simple to fix just need to file a ticket with a certain department but can be a pain if the rep is new.

I thought the phone read its IMEI number from its own hardware. This thread implies that something on the network is telling the phone what its IMEI Number should be.
I know there are a lot of Ebay phones with bogus stickers - the stickers have one SN/EMEI number, but the phone internally says another.
Where did you get your phone?
I've never owned an iPhone and I purchased the Captivate from a corporate store, not from an authorized reseller or ebay.
wait cant this be useful if we can change the imei to a vibrant one we can get money off of data or would most of you feel bad for doing that (one good thing about that though for 10 dollars we get unlimited data)

You gotta pay to play. If you don't want to pay smartphone fees, don't get a smartphone. I'm sure we'd all like a break on price, but when it comes down to it, we can't get one, so we make do.
And unless the modmyi forum was wrong, that's illegal.
yeah i know but im just saying if someone isnt scared to go to jail
If the IMEI shows as 004999010640000, you might check out this thread. Good luck.

actually i was just looking at the library of congress's recent ruling on the DMCA and their new excemptions and read this
"
(3) Computer programs, in the form of firmware or software, that enable used wireless telephone handsets to connect to a wireless telecommunications network, when circumvention is initiated by the owner of the copy of the computer program solely in order to connect to a wireless telecommunications network and access to the network is authorized by the operator of the network.
"
sounds like to me that changing the imei is legal as long as the only reason you are doing it is to connect to a network that you are already authorized to use

You are confusing unlocking with changing your IMEI. It is legal to unlock and hack, it is not legal to change the phone's network id.

I can't point to you an exact law, but cloning phones has been considered fraudulent for years and people have been prosecuted. In changing the IMEI number, you are in essence cloning a phone - it may not exist yet, but it could. So once a new phone is made with the new EMEI number you created, you have created fraud.
After doing some research - this is the section of federal code that is used to prosecute cell phone cloners:
http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/18/usc_sec_18_00001029----000-.html
U.S. Code: TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 47 > § 1029
§ 1029. Fraud and related activity in connection with access *devices
You may not get arrested for changing your IMEI (not one person anyway) but at some point the carrier will probably just black list your device or your account.
Changing the IMEI or ESN basically makes your device a counterfeit access device. Some debate that if they own 3 phones they should be able to let them all share one IMEI if only one is active at a time.
Personally, I can see no valid reason to change your IMEI - swapping sim cards is easy enough.
My phone out of nowhere started doing this really fun thing where it drops to roaming at random. From what I can tell, the phone is not making a handoff to the next tower to avoid the roaming. For example, if I'm sitting under a tower with full 4G, everything is fine. If I have 2 bars, it will work in 4G for a while before dropping to 3G roaming. I am able to force it back into 4G by dropping in and out of Airplane mode.
I'm running the official CM11 4/30 nightly (I was on the March Snapshot until this started happening).
First I used some Google-Fu and found it's most likely a bad SIM. I swapped SIMs with my wife, she was stuck in 3G roaming, awesome! Went to Verizon, the switched the SIM, all good, right? Nope, I didn't notice it right away, left the store and thought all was good until I needed to use internet at work.
Next, I thought it was software, so I created a backup, and dirty installed the newest CM11 nightly. No change, so I did a full wipe and install. No luck.
So next I thought maybe the radio was corrupted, so I tried to update the radio, which didn't go so well. I got stuck in a boot loop and had to sideload the old driver and reflash. So I'm back up but still having this problem. I'm thinking my only thing I can do at this point is to go to stock and see if the updated radios make a difference.
I saw another guy is had the same problem, but he had his phone replaced. I'm not sure if that will work for me since I purchased via Swappa (I do have Asurion insurance though).
So what help do I need?
1) Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to fix this?
2) Are there any good instructions out there for how to flash to stock?*
3) Are there any good instructions on how to re-root and flash back to a custom ROM once taking the newest OTA?*
*Most of the instructions I've found have been pretty confusing and use a lot of acronyms without explaining them. I'd be willing to write some cleaner instructions for a sticky if someone would be willing to help me out with any questions I have.
Thanks everyone, I appreciate any help offered.

I'm fairly certain it's hardware. I spent a day using my Galaxy Nexus - full 4G the entire day.
I went back to stock, "bricked" my phone about 3 times doing it (quotes because it was salvageable, but I had a couple hours where I was googling like a madman worried I dun ****ed up). Stock and the new radios made no difference. In fact, with stock it would only go to 4G if I restarted it - airplane wouldn't even bring 4G back. Figure that one out.
I went to the VZW store and I'm basically screwed. I can call LG and see if they'll replace it or use Asurion. Since I got the device off Swappa, they cannot replace it. They tried to order me a new one, but the system wouldn't let them. I don't really have time to call LG, so I'm probably going to Asurion it. Their process is stupid simple to do and they'll have a phone to me the next day. Then I can spend all day tinkering with it and getting CM11 back on, which I feel like I'm an expert at right now.
Sorry, wish I had better news. If you got the device from VZW, go to the store after flashing to stock. They might want to try swapping your SIM first though, so make sure you go to a store that has decent 4G coverage in its surrounding area.

Thanks dude. I think you are right, flash stock and get a new sim first. I have a hard time believing its a hardware problem. I just wrote this in the other post about roaming:
"Same exact problem here. I was on the phone with Verizon last night. I was running cloudy pro 2 (all his roms for that matter as they are international roms) and kept getting the roaming issue you speak of...with 3g. I went back to 11A completely bone stock. Just like you mentioned, I get 4g but then after like 10 minutes I get 3g with roaming. Of course this is after I spent 30 minutes on the phone with tech support. They 'zapped' my sim card and it appeared to work but no dice. Now before doing all this I downloaded build prop editor and changed the ro.build.target_country to US versus COM as everyone suggested in all the forums, still no dice. I've tried the toggle airplane mode trick...works for like 5 minutes and back to 3g roaming. I think maybe a new sim card and avoid international roms...bummer because cloudys roms are blistering fast. Interesting thing though, I installed xdabebbs rom and malladus' rom, after already running cloudys roms, and get 3g but no roaming. I also verified that Verizon wasn't throttling me or something like that. One more thing I tried is reflashing the basebands and 24A modem, no dice. If there is a build prop fix or some other fix I'd love to hear it.
Edit: One think I'd like to mention. When I had an S4 I switched between stock roms and AOSP roms and the network settings were responsible for causing the roaming because the stock rom was an older build than the AOSP. So when I had roaming, I'd reflashed the AOSP rom, changed the settings then flash the stock rom. It worked great. "
Edit#2: Ok making a little progress. Just did this:
Get a build.prop editor from the play store, and change ro.carrier to VZW and ro.build.target_operator to VZW and ro.build.target_country to US.
Initially it worked but when I make calls it gives me Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped and I cant make calls. I went into Settings, Apps, reset app preferences...that didn't fix it either.
4G/LTE is pretty solid now but again, I cant make calls.
Edit#3: Nevermind...roaming again.

Alright, so, I have some interesting news.
I got a replacement device from Asurion - not just a replacement, a brand new device out of the box. I pulled it out of the box, swapped the SIM, same exact issue .
I went to Verizon and *****ed up a storm. They basically said "you bought it on eBay, not our problem" (I actually did Swappa - but they don't know Swappa and they do know eBay).
So I got the guy in the store to do some digging, and apparently Verizon has a point opened up with LG as they're seeing this on more and more devices - especially since KK came out. So I figured I could try an older radio. The device was on 12B when it arrived. I just flashed stock to 10B and it's the same issue. I don't know what's going on at this point - nothing makes sense but its apparently a known issue that's been appearing since the KK update.
I'm going to call Asurion and request a new device again since this one is doing the same thing, we'll see what happens. I'm still leaning towards hardware and thinking there was a slew of bad radios that went out.
Just for giggles - and I have no reason whatsoever to think this will work. I'm going to swap out the new SIM that came with the phone. Originally, I just put in my old SIM since the new one was taking too long to activate. I'm having the exact same issue I had previously. With that, I'm going to leave the new SIM in and see if it has the same dropping issue. The guy in the store had mentioned he could swap out the SIM but after a few days it will crap out again... which makes zero ****ing sense. Because of that, I might as well see what happens if I pop a new SIM in. While again, this makes 0 sense, I'm wondering if maybe the phone is frying the SIM somehow?
Again, it makes no sense at all, but I have nothing else left to try other than getting Asurion to repeatedly send me phones until I find one that works or they replace for another type of phone (which I REALLY don't want). I'll drop an edit in an hour or so if what I try makes a difference.
Quick Edit:
I COULD just keep going to the VZW store and have them repeatedly swap out SIMs since it will fix it for a few days .
EDIT:
Got the new SIM installed and it's working. The guy in the VZW store told me that we can keep swapping SIMs and the same issue will happen, which again, makes no sense to me. I'm at a bit of a loss to be honest. I wonder if it's possible that my old device was frying the SIMs (again, makes no sense) and that maybe the new SIM not going in my old device will fix the issue.
What ROMs are you running? A phone frying a Sim does not sound likely at all. I got my new sim card and have been running xdabebbs ROM with no network issues. I feel like my issues stemmed from the Intl ROMs.

The only ROM I've ever run was CM11.
Same thing happened on stock though after flashing through the LG Flash Tool. Then, with the new phone from Asurion, used old SIM - 3G only. Used new SIM - 4G sticks.
