Hey guys,
I'm having trouble flashing a new OS on my X1i.
I had to RMA my phone at the start of january due to a display screen failure. Sony Ericsson, a month later, told me that they had not recieved my phone yet and wanted proof that i sent it. After some running around between them and canada post they finally said "our bad" fixed the phone and sent it back to me.
Finally after 2 months, i had my X1i. Alas, i sent them an english OS phone and they sent me back a German OS phone. I called them back and they said they would "escalate" the call and i should expect someone to call me back within 24 hours. Its been 4 days and i havent got a call back. I longer want to deal with them and have decided that voiding my warranty by changing the ROM is no longer a concern.
I downloaded the HardSPL from this thread and installed it
/showthread.php?t=431218
Apologies for not providing a direct link, but new users cant post links due to spam issues
Now my bootloader reads:
KOVS110
SPL-0.72.OliNex
MicroP1-787
MicroP2-707
Then i downloaded the English Rom from this thread
/showthread.php?t=475482
APP_SW_X1i_GENERIC_UK_CDF1215-1832_KOV_R2AA010
i renamed the file to
Kovsimg.nbh
Then i formatted my 4gb SD Card with FAT32
then copied the Kovsimg.nbh file to the root folder
then i turned my phone off, unplugged everything from it, inserted my SD Card into the phone and started up the boot loader
however i get an error message saying "no image found"
i tried the process again but with the filename in all lowercase. this did not work either
what am i doing wrong?
Can anyone point me to in the correct direction?
Is there another easier way to do this?
I would greatly appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Ravi
Re:
Hello all,
I did some more reading on the SD method and it turned out i was using the incorrect type of MicroSD card.
I was using a SDHC card before and it was not reading the card correctly. When i switched to my other MicroSD card it worked fine.
Thanks to everyone who was kind enough to spend time getting all of this information together in one place so i could avoid another support call
Cheers
Ravi
There's nothing wrong with using MicroSDHC to flash phones, it's just that some MicroSDHC chip can't be detected by the SPL program.
Although some old phones really can't flash using MicroSDHC, but Xperia doesn't have any problem with flashing using MicroSDHC.
Previously I was using Kingston 16GB MicroSDHC and the "no image found" problem occurs.
But when I switch to Team Group 16GB MicroSDHC, the "no image found" problem doesn't occur anymore.
Yup, it's usually an incompatible or bad SD card that prevents an SD flash.
By the way, if you just want to flash a stock ROM, you don't need to hard-spl your phone. The stock SPL will work. But since you already have hard spl, have fun trying out the custom ROMs! It's the same procedure you did when you flashed the English ROM. Try them out and you won't regret it.
re:
@Tom: Yep, i have a kingston SD card too! it must be that kingson is one of the ones that doesnt work
There's almost a sense of information overload in the roms forum. I'm trying to read up on it and get a handle on all everything but i definately will try. Worse come to worse, and i break my phone, will i always be able to load up the bootloader and flash back to the stock ROM?

Isn't that I stated in the SD flash thread that kingston is known for problem.
I had different 16G SDHC and no issue so far for flashing.
Since you already break the cage and HardSPL, isn't that a good time to try cooked rom as well. ;p
haha! that must have been where i got the idea of trying the other SD card and i just forgot i read it. Thanks for posting it.
I've got Touch 10 Extreme Blue downloaded. gonna throw that on over the weekend and see what its like.
But overall i'm glad i got my phone working again.
Oh and i finally got a call back from Sony Ericsson Escalations. The girl that spoke me to said that the place i got my phone from timtechs.com must have got a german phone and flashed it to english and then sold it to me and that act itsef would void the warranty. And then went on to say that i dont have a choice and i will have to simply use it(in german) or sell it to someone else.
So yeah, screw the warranty, its worthless anyway lol

Like many others on this site, it seems that I have used an update from O2's official site that has fried my XDA2. From what I have read I am in USB bootlod screen but cannot reflash unless I use ROM 1.66.00 wwe which was what I originally had, Can anybody help.
v1.60.50 is the latest ROM update available from O2. If yours is one of those that came with v1.66.00 from O2 your best bet is going to be O2 themselves, just explain that you 'thought' you were updating to the latest ROM and didn't realise that the one posted on their site is older.
They 'should' be sympathetic given these circumstances.
O2 unhelpful
Tried O2 but they just said to take it to the store for repair. Surely there must be another way. I cannot believe the update does not check for incorrect versions on the receiving device before wiping the rom. Thanks for the reply
Yup, piss poor I agree, all the updates I've ever applied to iPAQ's check versions and warn you if you're restoring an older ROM image.
Unless you can aquire an SD Card backup of the 1.66 ROM then you're going to have to take it to the O2 shop
Backup
I have a backup on my SD card but do not have a reader, any help?
Can't you use your cradle to transfer the backup to your PC?
Cradle
Activesync will not wake up. Without a reader how will I get at me sdcard?
Sorry, opened mouth before engaging brain there! A card reader is relatively cheap though.

I recently bought an 8125, it came with Farias WM6 custom ROM. After using it for a few days, I realized that I wasn't receiving a lot of my calls when the phone had been in sleep mode for awhile. I found the thread, that this is a known problem with WM6 ROMs, but can't find the thread now. Anyways, there was a cab fix, that I tried and no help. So I tried to flash a new ROM (XDS WM6v3), and the results were that I could not boot up at all, got the 3 colors screen. So I used Wizard Love, which appears to have put me back to WM5, which I am fine with as long as it works. My new problem, is that my storage card is not recognized. Please remember I am almost completely dumb at this, so I need detailed guidance. I have been reading, but the terminology on a lot of things are tough, then I have to read more. I am on dial up, so it is taking forever to try and get a remedy. I just want a working phone, either with WM5 or WM6, it doesn't matter. There are so many ROMS, I am overwhelmed, I would be happy with whatever ROM came stock on this phone as long as it works, receives calls, storage card works, and I can put a few apps on it. Oh its a G4 phone.
HELp
What up fella,
First question, in a card reader, can you access your storage card? WM6 allows users to encrypt the card so its only usable from the pda. You can always reformat the card.
If you are leary or need more time researching, no problem. Then I suggest you reflash the OEM 8125 rom from cingular (U R on cingular, right?). Anyhoo, here is the link to download the OEM rom from HTC's website [Click Here]
Peace

My understanding is that G4 phones are a little trickier to install custom roms. I'd suggest reading the G4 wizard section until your eyes bleed. My wiz is a G3...and for the record...are you CERTAIN that your phone is G4? If so, I am not totally sure (like I said, I have a G3), but I am not aware of too many custom roms for the G4 devices. As for the storage card issue...remove the card, get into bootload mode, allow it to reset, then put the storage card back in. I found out when my wizard almost died, that SOMETIMES if you have the storage card in the phone while you are flashing and/or hard resetting the device, it sometimes won't read the miniSD. I wish I could help you more. Good luck. Hopefully one of our resident Wizard wizard's will read this and work their magic for you.
How did you verify if this you have a G3 or G4. If you have a G4 realize that you are not going to unlock it, for free anyway. If this is the case your best bet is to use soft spl to flash, right now this is the easiest way. I did it on a G4 Tmobile MDA. But you should first make sure you have a G4, if it is a G3 as I have noticed 8125's are, then you are in luck and you can unlock it and will have no problem flashing any wm6 rom. Send me a PM if you'd like. I am not the wisest but I am willing to provide any advice my newbie self can. worst case you can always put wizard love from the boot screen back on it.

You posted this problem in another thread, where many senior members gave you valid advises, there was no need to start a new thread for this.
Anyway as you say you don't care much to upgrade and wud be happy with stock cingular Rom,than I must advise you to download the official cingular Rom from it's website and flash,as you say it's a G4,it doesn't require any unlock or any other specific method to flash it being the official Rom,just download and run the 'romupdateutility' application and it'll flash all by itself.Your all problems will be solved.
but if you are willing to upgrade and confident to take the risk than read all the threads regarding G4 devices, before posting and post in the correct thread....But don't start new threads and SPAM!!
cheers

Thanks for the posts guys. I will be working on this today using the replies. Yes, I know I posted for help in another thread, but the thread has disappeared along with the advice that was given to me. I had it bookmarked to come back to, but the link is now not found. I now only have 2 posts, the 2 in this thread.

Oh ! ok it's alright but just make up you mind and have clear concepts as to what you really like to do,do you want to go back to stock wm5 rom or interested in upgrading to newer wm6 upgrades, cuz in either situation the methods are entirely different,as you have a G4 device, remember it's a very tricky device, anyway it's all upto your decision, but whatever you decide,we are here to help you out the best we cud
good luck
Thanks! I would rather just go back to the stock ROM, get something that works and take the pressure off, by not having a working device. Then I can spend time at my leisure, to learn, and maybe down the road I may be more interested in custom ROMs.
Update-I reflashed Wizard Love, and still cannot access my storage card. I then loaded the stock ROM from HTC's website, from the link above. I still cannot access my storage card. It says my expansion slot is in use, but I can't see the card under memory, file explorer, or exploring from Active Sync.
Another update- Tried another card, and it worked. Tried my card in another phone, and it didn't recognize it. I will be borrowing a card reader and reformatting. If it doesn't work, then somehow my card went bad, coincidenatally at the same time I flashed a new ROM.
Update- Got a reader and re-formatted the card-- I am back in business, and the phone can actually receive calls, after sleeping all night! Thanks to all!
Hello Guys,
I am thinking about Flashing back to my original ROM that came with my Xperia. I tried other ROMs, primarily Itje's, and they are just brilliant, but I am not sure how they be used as everyday ROMs. The Touch-IT 4.5 has the battery leakage issue, some SMS issue, and I really don't like the new Start Menu thing with TouchFlo. Even though they have a fix with for the Start Menu thing, you lose the Programs tab, since the new TouchFlo is not meant to be like that. I understand that there must be more solutions for that ROM, but I will be honest, even after reading as much as possible AND searching, it's just so impossible to go through those 100s of pages.
I also tried the WM 6.5 Beta ROM. Again, excellent work on Itje's part, but I just don't think I am ready for WM 6.5 yet. It's just not stable and that is understandable since it's BETA.
Anyway, with that said, since I am not very experienced with Flashing, I had a question. What happens to a phone if the ROM image (Kovsimg.nbh) that is chosen to Flash the phone with, from an SD Card, is corrupt? Does the phone get stuck in the middle of everything, and the phone ends up as a brick, or are there any ways to prevent this from happening?
I am just asking this because I am not certain... the ROM I backed up COULD be corrupt, I mean I don't know. There were no errors when I backed it up, and followed the tutorial with no problems.
Any help is appreciated, thank you very much guys!
I just got out of that situation. Tried flashing by micro sd way. Took out batt and micro sd, then used the USB flashing tool to flash a new rom.
Thanks for your response, dadeadman, but after reading your reply, I am a bit more confused (Sorry). Please correct me if I am wrong, but are you saying that you tried Flashing with the SD, it was unsuccessful (for whatever reason), you then took out your battery and the SD Card, and Flashed it through USB using the RUU Flashing tool? If this is correct, then can you explain how the phone even connects to the computer with an OS (ROM) on it? I would assume that if the flashing process gets corrupt, the phone ends up with no bootable OS, right?
Sorry for the confusion, I hope it made sense .
You have to put it in bootloader mode then connect the usb. The white bottom portion of the bootloader screen will say USB, though the mobile device cnetre/activesync cannot detect. However you are still able to flash a working rom with the RUU Flashing tool.

Nice, thanks a lot for your reply man, that makes me feel much better !
Please help me. I am freaking out. I flashed the HardSPL last night without a hitch. It went exactly like the instuctions said it would. Then I chose a ROM that I thought I liked and I downloaded the .zip file. In the thread for the ROM, there were no installation instructions so I just followed the instructions on the HardSPL thread. I extracted the files to my PC. I made sure I had Active Sync and internet connection. I had 100% battery life. I ran the CUSTOMRUU.exe file on my PC. I followed all of teh instruction on the installer. It was almost identical to the HardSPL installer so I was feeling confident. The installer finished and I clicvked the FINISH button. My phone then turned on, vibrated quickly, and showed the Touch Pro2 screen. That is all that happened. When I sof reset, the screen goes blank and it immediately happens again. I took my battery out to try to reset it that way, but when I put it back in I don't even need to ppush any buttons. It just vibrates and goes to the TP2 screen. I looked in the bootlocker and it says:
RHOD400 32M SS-BC
SPL-1.00.01Nex
MicroP(LED) 0x0A MicroP(KEY) 0x04
TURBO HW/TURBO SW
TP MFG DATA
501,520 775,190
222,843 Calibrated
Serial
I have, had, a Sprint Rhodium Touch Pro2
I sucessfully flashed the HardSPL
I attempted to flash Shadowline's new ROM for Rhodium :
RELEASE_Rhodium_28014M_Shadowline
I am heading to the store now to buy a new SD card to try to flash a new ROM that way. Should I flash the HardSPL again? Is there a stable ROM that I should flash? Any warnings or tips before I start?
Thank you all for all of your posts on this site. Even though I am really frustrated and scared right now, I am still glad I learned about all of this from you.
well Shadowline Series is for GSM.
Well, you flashed a gsm rom onto a cdma device, which is bad news. Try flashing a stock cdma rom onto your device, and you may be able to recover it.
get a cdma rom from the cdma forum
What is with the recent influx of people who can't read?
You've got the right HardSPL, i.e. the CDMA one. But it sounds like you've flashed a GSM ROM. You can re-flash a CDMA ROM though, don't worry. Go to the CDMA sub-forum and have a look there for ROMs, or ppcgeeks.com (who tend to specialise more on CDMA phones/ROMs).
You're right. I should have read more carefully. I thought when I redad that you could use any cooked ROM after the HardSPL flash, there wasn't an exception. I thought that I was prepared. Please don't say any other bad thing as I feel bad enough already. I think I learned my lesson to read more carefully by the fact that my new phone no longer works. I don't need bashed by anyone trying to reinforce the point. Thanks for your responses though.
Would someone please point me to the Stock ROM download that I need to try?

There you go http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=91940
Everyone makes mistakes. I remember when I first bricked my Tilt 2. Oddly it was with a Shadowline rom as well. Not my fault it was my laptop but its a bad feeling to brick a new phone.
Thank you.
Since my carrier is Sprint, I should use the Sprint ROM? I know that is a dumb question, but I don't think I can be too carefull now. I want to try to do everything right this time.
I will download the .exe file.
Extract it using WinRAR
Copy the .nbh file to the root directory of my FAT32 formatted SD card.
Change the name of the file to RHODIMG.nbh
open the bootloader page by pressing the down volume button and the soft reset button together.
"Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update" - I'm a liitle concerned
Then I restart my phone and I'm happy again.
Please let me know if there is something I am leaving out or some tip/trick I can do to prevent further damage.
Thanks again.
WHich file do I use?
I downloaded the .exe file and it has two xxxx_signed.nbh files.
Which .nbh file do I put on the SD Card?
SPL_signed.nbh
OR
RUU_signed.nbh
**EDIT**
I read that the file should probably be the RUU_signed.nbh.
Thanks again for all of the replies. I am not giving up.

Phone is still broken.
Is there any hope?
**EDIT**
I popped out the SD card to pack everything up back in the box and the phone started!!!!!!!
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAD POSITIVE THINGS TO SAY AND HELP TO OFFER!
I've learned my lesson.
You don't have to use a Sprint ROM, but you *must* use CDMA-specific ROMs and radio versions. Just make sure to read very carefully the details of any ROM you wish to flash. If it doesn't say then it's probably a GSM ROM and you should avoid it.
Glad it's working now though
You should consider yourself lucky lol, my first experience flashing was with my HTC Titan with nTelos (CDMA) and I never did get it working fully again after flashing... And this was after months of going back and forth with customer service, tech support, etc... so I learned my lesson... Cancelled nTelos plan, switched to T-Mobile and bought a TP2 and haven't had any problems flashing since. But I was pretty upset about the Titan after I messed it up. Didn't brick it but couldn't get over 1X speeds which kinda defeats the purpose of a smartphone lol. Glad you got it working and more importantly learned your lesson without it costing you.

the thing happens to me too although I use GSM ROMs for my GSM device. When it happens I know that it's because of the PRHODIMG file in the root of my SD which I kept in there after flashing. So like you did I get out the SD card and then start the phone. No problems. I just have to move the RHODIMG file from root of SD. It didn't always happen this way before but now it does. like you described earlier the phonescreen gets stuck with messesage in the middle "serial"

u'll have to make the stock ROM ready to flash from SD. It means the .npb has to be extracted from your stock .exe. I don't know how to do that and I suppose neither do you . What I do is I create a folder called "ROMs" and put couple of ROMs in there with their folders. When i need to flash one I just copy the RHODIMG file to the root of SD and after i finished flashing, remove the SD first, set the phone up and then insert back the SD card and move the RHODIMG file back to it's place in the ROMs folder.

Actually, WinRAR extracts the .npb file from an .exe. At least that's how I got the Sprint Stock .npb file to put on my SD card. Maybe I am misunderstanding your post though. Are you suggesting that I can't just keep the stock RHODIMG.npb file on my SD card and have that as the only thing on the card and only use that SD card as my stock ROM flash?
Similar brick of my phone
Hi guys.
I have a similar problem from the first post but I'm trying to recover my brick HTC Touch Pro 2 - TMobile GSM. I think I flashed a CDMA ROM onto my phone instead of a GSM ROM.
My tri-color screen says:
RHOD210 32M SS-BC
SPL-0.79.0000
MicroP(LED) vA
MicroP(KEY) v4
TURBO HW/TURBO SW
NO TP MFG DATA
Serial
I don't know what to do next or how to unbrick.
I tried flashing a GSM ROM through USB and microSD but it just stops at the white screen with the loading bar at 0%. It doesn't move at all. Tried so many times and just freezes at that screen.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Please help.
Did you try pulling the battery out 1 min. and then doing a hard reset? Hold down End, Send, and Power until the screen goes into the bootloader and then to the reset screen. Then press volume up.

Ok I am having the same issues. I tried to install HDWall cab on the latest march 9th energyrom with WM6.5.5 and Sense 2.5. It prompted me to restart so I did and ever since I tried rebooting it, its stuck on the bootloader. tried to hard reset a bunch of times and just goes back to bootloader. Took battery out a bunch of times. Tried to flash back to AT&T stock ROM via USB. Flash went to 100% and then when it tries to restart after flash, back to bootloader. Ran mtty1_1_.42_538 on PC and then tried to reflash to energyrom and still stuck on bootloader. The weird thing is when I try to flash via USB it the current Rom image is blank. Oh and also I attached an image of what mtty1_1_.42_538 shows when running the application. Please help chefs!!! You chefs are the brains!

I am not a chef but at this point I would do an SD flash of my favorite ROM.
Hope that helps.
I would if I could flash from a 16gb micro SD. That is the only card I have. I have read you can't flash with any card over 2GB. Don't know if its true because I don't have any other card. Card is formatted through my pc. Please help!
Something got messed up between installing HDWallpaper cab and the soft reset after.

I can't flash from the microSD. I formatted FAT32 through the PC and tried putting a couple different NBH files (stock Roms and custom Roms) and neither my old fuze or my Tilt 2 read it. I don't know if it is because it is a MicroSDHC 2 card. Anybody???
For some reason my fuze and Tilt 2 will not read the card in bootloader. I'm thinking I might have a hardware issue but would like to keep plugging away at possible solutions it might be... The phone is only 2 months old so I'm questioning whether it is a software or hardware issue
In case anybody was wondering, my bootloader reads as follows:
RHOD300 32M SS-BC
SPL-0.85.OliNex
MicroP(LED) 0x0A
MicroP(KEY) 0x04
TURBO HW/TURBO SW
TP MFG DATA
522, 535 815, 860
812, 211 226, 210
232, 860 Calibrated
At the bottom of the screen it will show the USB when plugged into the PC and Serial when unplugged like it should
Possible fix
Format your card again but in 16bit.
Copy the ROM image you wish to burn to the root of the card.
Make sure it is named RHODIMG.nbh and nothing else.
Before trying to burn this rom, I would actually burn HardSPL again to your phone.
Then insert card and see if it will reburn your rom.
I am using a 16GB card in my TP2 without problems, but found I actually had less problems by formatting it to 16bit. And any access to the card was actually faster than formatting it in 32bit.
Hope this helps
I will try that tonight when I get home. Any other ideas until then?

I would if I could flash from a 16gb micro SD. That is the only card I have. I have read you can't flash with any card over 2GB. Don't know if its true because I don't have any other card. Card is formatted through my pc. Please help!

I think it's not a matter of capacity so much as a matter of brand. If your 16GB is from eBay you might well have a defect/reject card. I have a 4GB A-Data from Newegg that I only use for flashing. Never saw any problem with it.

It seems the read can not be read in two devices. That sounds like a defective card. Get your self a 2GB (non HC) card from a reliable source (maybe BestBuy) and keep it just for flashing.
I had this same problem I solved it check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=638825
Tried everything on the thread and still no go. Called HTC and sending it in to get fixed.
