message problems - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

the stock message app that came with cyanogen to work it keeps freezing phone. i have reinstalled latest rom with a clean wipe. i have cleaned sd card and repartitioned it. what else can i do. when i reboot i also get removed sd card. the only way to be able to reuse phone is to remove battery.

Have you tried flashing a different rom to see if that fixes the issue?

nope ill do that. trying to hold onto this one untill i have funds for nexus one. wife dont see the logic of 500 plus for a phone.

I'd try Enoms v2.6.1 for testing as its stock.
Then if all is fine take a look at Super D, beats cyan hands down in my book.

Should I uprade from CM 4.0.4 to 4.1.999?

I see all these new changes in the Change Log and I also know it also incorporates elements of Donut along with it, but I also see all these reports of it being considerably slow. Apart from the minor change in the process used to upgrade I don't see the process to upgrade as difficult. So without consideration to the upgrade process is it worth it to upgrade to 4.1.999?
4.1.999 is based on 1.6, so it is all donut. There are alternatives now to the double flash if you want to go that route. The speed is all based on each phone it is on. Mine in particular is blazing fast. I formatted and repartitioned prior to installing it so that might have something to do with it.
Could you possibly give me more information on this 'Double Flash' technique and what the benefits are, and possibly point to a thread that gives instructions on how to implement this? Also how would partitioning prior to flashing affect the over all speed, and what would I be partitioning, the SD Card?
The double flash is listed in Cyanogens 4.1.999 thread. Basically if you have not already upgraded to 4.1.99 or 4.1.999, you have to download 2 separate files and flash both of them. One is from HTC and the other is the Cyanogen rom. There was also a single flash method that was posted by Daveid yesterday that eliminates the need for flashing both files. If you are still on 4.04, you will need to follow one of those 2 methods to upgrade to 4.1.999. If it were me, I would just go with the single flash method and be done with it. However, I would still backup my sd and reformat and repartition before upgrading just to eliminate all the old garbage on your sd card from preivious builds.
Ahh okay, thats what you meant by 'Double Flash', yes I already knew of that and the single flash Though for some reason I would prefer the longer and "harder" method. Thanks for the tips, ill back up and repartition here in a but.
i personally think 4.1.999 is far from stable. i am still experiencing lots of crash and icons disappear. you should wait until it's stable.
or u can try this rom if you want donut.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567023
quite stable but still have the icons disappear problem. i think it's actually donut's problem.
I couldnt after 6 attempts get it running i am on a G1 and it wouldnt even get past the google email registration screen, and my phone got so hot i thought it was going to melt, that cant be good, i went back to my prevoius
nandriod backup and its perfect, only for using my G1 as a tether i would go back to a stock phone, i dont see any benifits apart from the tether

Interesting Problem

I'm fairly new to working with Linux and the Android OS, though I have pretty broad knowledge in most other systems. Hopefully someone here's willing to help me
First, a little background. From straight out of the box, I ran The Unlockr's steps to root and flash my phone. The root instructions I followed are located here.
I am running radio verison 2.22.19.26I
And using SPL version 1.33.2005
My SD card is partioned in a Fat32/EX2/Linuxswap configuration
And I'm using Dwang's Android 1.6 Donut rom. (Located Here!)
The problem:
During Black Friday, I found amazing deals on Micro SD cards. I'm moving from a 2GB to a 4GB. I copied everything over on the fat 32 partition from one to the other, but forgot about the other partitions When I switched SD cards, all of my apps and widgets crashed and whatnot. The problem is when I swapped back to the original card...they were still crashing.
I've tried a bunch of things, Nandroid restores, reflashing the ROM and starting fresh, and I'm still having problems with crashing apps. The interesting thing, is that only apps that were downloaded from the market, and use the internet refuse to work now. Here's a list of working VS non working apps.
Working apps:
App Manager
Melon (Notetaking program)
Any application that came "Stock" on the phone. (Youtube, Messaging, Browser)
Non-Working Apps:
Wikidroid
Autolock
Toggle Settings
Hi AIM
Almost anything downloaded from the market.
Other than that the phone runs fine. Texts, calls, uses the internet browser without a hiccup. It's just download apps either spam force close, or can't connect to the internet. (which the browser can)
I was wondering if anyone knew what causes a problem like this, or where I could be pointed in the direction of someone with a similar problem. I've google'd all morning and searched through the forums, but can't find anything. I'd try more things, but i have bricked a G1 in the past and am pretty damn terrified to mess with things too much.
Thanks in advance for any advice or help.
Just start from scratch.
1) Repartition the new card.
2) Wipe
3) flash
Problem solved.
Reformat the card, wipe the data in the recovery mode, and reflash the rom (Dwang's in my case?) I think I've done this which is what's causing my apps to act all funky anyway. I will try it one more time though. There's no risk in a brick doing this, no? Since I'm using the same rom that worked before?
Again terrified. If a brick shows up, I don't get a third chance
Plus I'm a mobile/program developer. I'd kinda like to know what causes this, or where I can find some resources so I can prevent it frmo happening in the future on stuff that I write.

Okay, for clarification, the only way you can brick is through flashing a radio image or SPL without the requirments for either. In other words, wiping and flashing ROMs physically can't brick your phone. Stop worrying
I'm honestly not sure what happened to your partition, so I can't tell you what caused it, but honestly, reformatting the card, wipe and reflash will solve your problem, as everything is clean. If the problem persists then something has been left behind.
flashing the roms and repartition the card should fix it. its most likely caused by corrupted permissions or something to the likes. The sdcard should not be removed while the rom is on or replaced with an unidentical ext partition. Some apps that are supposed to be in the card arent there, which will cause failures. since its a hacky method for getting apps on the sd, there is no fail-safes in place

Issues started popping up out of nowhere with my G1, can anyone help?

I've been tinkering with this phone for probably around a year now. I have a good understanding of flashing and whatnot, but that is probably the extent of it. I've had tons and tons of roms on this phone, and never once been given trouble.
Recently, I flashed to King's Eris2G1 rom, and that seemed to start my problems. I had lots of problems getting this ROM to work properly. Eventually, I got a working load, but I noticed that Apps2SD stopped working. Everything else seemed to work OK so I ignored it and used the rom.
Now, this morning, I went to flash his Legend2G1 rom, and got an error during verification that files were corrupt. Redownloaded and tried to reflash, same thing. So I said screw it, tried going back to an older 1.5 senses rom (I forget which, MLING or something like that), and I got errors on verification for that too. I never had any trouble previously installing that rom. So, I tried Eris2G1 again, and got the same errors there. Last time, it always flashed fine, just worked a little buggy.
So I tried Kings AOSP2.1. That worked. It flashed fine, booted fine, but I did notice, Apps2SD isn't working here either. So, my thoughts are all the Senses roms failed because they are larger and install files to the SD card, where as this smaller rom does not?
I went to test my theory by popping in a different SD card, but I got the exact same errors. So, it's not the card, it's the phone, but it appears to be related to the card. I am able to access the FAT32 partition without problems. I tried repartitioning the card many times (96-128MB swap, 128-512MB ext2) and I tried with ext2, 3, and 4. No luck no matter what.
So, does anyone have any ideas as to 1.) what happened and 2.) how can I fix it? I am not 100% sure what all I have on my phone as far as SPL, recovery, ect go. On recovery, it says "Build: RA-dream-v1.5.2". No idea what SPL I am using... I flashed it a little bit ago to whatever a particular rom I was interested in required. All I know is I never had a single problem like this, and now even the roms that used to work like a champ are not functioning. I've got my phone to a usable state with this current ROM, but i'd really like to play around with the Senses roms more (nevermind the fact that I want A2SD back). Can anyone help?
EDIT: For ****s I just tried flashing 1.6.2 recovery, as well as reflashing radio and SPL. Didn't make a difference.

[Q] (Q) sms not working?!

using fitsnugly latest (as of yesterday) and was trying to applying a morph. it froze up in the middle of applying it and i had to pull the battery. since then i have not been able to send or receive text messeges. i don't have a nandroid because i've had too many problems with them and it's just as quick to use tb for backing everything up.
in any case, i've wiped everything possible, tried different recoveries, different roms, gingerbread, froyo, etc....cannot send sms. maybe i'm missing something simple but if someone can offer another way of wiping that might cover something i've missed i would love to hear about it.
Flash the latest rom again n see if it works

thanks, but like i said i've already tried that. i need to wipe something that's not getting wiped in recovery
well after some serious stressing i put in a new sim card that i've had and everything is up and running fine now.

[Q] Help restoring phone needed

Sprint Hero
8gb new SD card
Was rooted to a cyanogen mod 6 (???)
The other day my sd card needed to be replaced. This card had my backup info on it, but became corrupted. I tried using various utilities in Win7 to try to fix the card, but had no success. Somewhere during the process of everything, I must have erased/corrupted the info on the phone itself, as it will no longer boot.It just freezes at the HTC screen.
I am trying to flash a new rom to the phone via the sd card using the hboot method. I have tried various roms, and had one actually start to install itself, but at the end it said the system info is older (not sure of the exact words) and would not proceed. So now I am stuck in what to do.
I want to get my phone working. I don't care if it is the basic stock OS, or something better at this point, as I can mod it once get it up and running. I am able to get to the clockword recovery prompts (if this helps any).
Any help in resolving my problem would be appreciated! Specific steps would even be better
I can't stand being without a phone... and this is driving me crazy!
U still have a recovery on ur phone?
Sent from my HTC Hero CDMA using XDA App
i have clockwork, if that is what you are referring to???
Run the RUU from bootloader and restore to factory. Re-root and you'll be good to go.
If you still have Clockwork recovery you can flash a new ROM from there and the problem should be fixed as well.
Is this a new ROM you are working on?
Thank you.. I think I have it working again.. I downloaded a rom from this link... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581521 and it booted back up....
so, if I want to go to a different rom, say CM 7, or even a different one all together... I can do it from here using rom manager, right ??????? Thanks for your help!!!!!
Did you make sure you were fully charged. My phone sometimes refuses to get past the white HTC screen. If I make sure it's charged and sometimes I pull the battery and just let it sit. I always boots. It never did this on any rom previous to gingerbread. I would do this before spending an hour or two rru'ing or reflashing. My phone didn't seem to like the cwr 3.0.0.5 either, lots of booting issues. I had to downgrade back to 2.5.whatever. Looks like you got it fixed though.
