Hello,
Using sense 2.1 (rom gen.Y D2 R4/5) , "my location" always sets to Quebec, Quebec when I am actually in Montreal, Quebec. Is there any way to manually set it?
Else anyone has firgured out a fix?
Thanks.
::EDIT:: I can add Montreal as a location, it's the 'my location' tab that doesn't recognize that I am in Montreal and not Quebec.
Has this happened on any other ROM's? Also, what radio do you have?
Tried different radios with same result. This occurs on every rom I try with the my location feature.

When you say "my location" feature are you referring to google maps?
If so this may be an issue with the google maps application.
Have you tried various gps apps to see if the other apps give the same results?

Google maps reports my location properly on the map, it is the my location in HTC sense for weather/time that is incorrect. Is google feeding the data to sense?

Ah Ok! That clears that up.
No google maps has nothing to do with htc sense.
Sorry, I don't know much about htc sense. I would think someone has figured out how to edit it manually or has created a fix to point htc sense time/weather to an alternate server to give more accurate data though.
May be the problem is google maps.
Seriously, I have this same problem with my htc sense. If I travel further into London however, it seems to work, but displays the wrong location by about half a mile. But where I live it just doesnt work at all. I've manually set my location because it doesnt work.

Hmm...Is there a selection somewhere that resets/updates your location automatically? Maybe that can be switched off?
Not that I know of. If you disable the my location feature, it will still show up as "My location" but will not update.

How did you set it manually?
I have tried using Advanced Configuration Tool but it doesn´t work at all.
Thanks!

I take it nobody has sorted this out yet from the deafening silence.
Very annoying don't have this trouble with Winmo sence on my HD2.
This is driving me and the GF wrong.
My location
Hi
so did anyone work out how to set the my location manually? Some people said they did in this thread but didnt say how?!
Hope this helps someone else....
go to world clock add your city
you have the choice of setting the clock to 'your location ' or the city ; select the city
now go to weather and make sure you have the same city set up.
this now fixed the problem where 'my location' on the home page didnt show the weather.
well it fixed it for me!
How to Set Location Manually on HTC Aria
I've finally figured out how to set my location manually on my HTC Aria. To be specific, I'm talking about the weather/time widget that comes on the middle home screen of all HTC phones. Mine is rooted, so I'm not sure if it's any different than a regular one, since I couldn't find this "set my location" button that everyone is saying is in the widget configuration.
Basically, the steps I took to set my location manually is:
First go to the screen where your clock widget is.
Tap the clock, then go into the second tab, World Clock.
Add your desired city
Go out of this screen by pressing home
Delete the clock widget
Add the widget again by pressing the + key on the bottom right, and then Widget, then scroll down to Clock and tap it.
The widget that you want is the 3rd one
Once you add that widget to the screen, it will ask you to set your location. Your location will be available only if you have it in the World Clock
Set your desired location
Essentially, you are deleting the widget and re-adding it.
Hi - I fixed my HTC weather widget issue by:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747697
In it is there is a link so you can add your own City as well.
Adrian.
Hmm... I have this same issue. But I don't want to root my phone. My city (or better, village) is not in the list of cities of HTC Sense Locations. It is driving me crazy. Could anyone help me with this?
Or... How can I change HTC Sense Locations set my location by GPS and not with mobile towers?

Well, when I'm physically in my small hometown, the phone picks up where I am as "Actual Location", so I assume you are talking about when you are away on a trip? Maybe you can add a farther, bigger city? That's what I had to do.
What I'm thinking is that my village has shown as my location only two or three times. But almost always is HTC showing my location in wrong village (near to my village, but not my..) Do you know what I'm thinking about?
And I can't find my village (Velke Kostolany) in manual finding of HTC location.
Or do you know how to change setting my location by GPS and not by mobile towers?

Since this morning my weather app. is not working anymore and I'm using the HTC HOME plug in it says " Unable to retrieve data for selected city. Select here to retry."
Can someone help me. I removed them already, reinstall them but doesn't work with any city.
Help please.
Just checked mine and it updated fine... Everything else working fine like browsing, checking emails, etc.?
Might want to copy that entire message into Google along with 'HTC Home Customizer' and do a search. There's various links to threads in them but I couldn't look too in-depth as to what the problem might be from.
Good luck!
There looked to be a post on here too but it was like 50+ pages, yikes!

Looked ok at first but digging further mine hasn't updated since Sunday 11/25.
Same problem with the weather here too. The last time I checked it was this morning, and it has stopped working since. I tried some random cities, and they did not work either.
(georgemera, try to be more specific with the thread title (e.g., at least, HTC Home weather not updating). I wouldn't have bothered reading if I didn't accidentally click it...)
me too
I'm also experiencing this issue, I haven't seen an update since Sun. I've been roaming all over the US since Thurs. but this has been my only issue. I too have searched but don't yet have a working fix. Anyone know if this is an AT&T-specific issue? I see that T-Mobile customers have had this problem in the past.

thanx alot
The HHC custom database pulls the data from a different weather server. During the install, this reg key is modified to redirect any requests from your phone going to htc.accuweather.com to this other server. Most likely the server is not responding.
I found this in the registry...
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Tcpip\Hosts\htc.accuweather.com]
"ipaddr"=hex:40,3E,9E,6C
This points htc.accuweather.com to 64.62.158.108
I found this thread and it has HTC Home 2.1 there. Now the cities are added directly to the XML file (different format) and the new patched Home app reads zip codes too. I'm getting data again.
From reading thru the thread, it looks like N2A (guy running the weather server) has disabled the IP based weather server, or something to that effect. anyways, the new version and method of adding cities works for me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319187
Can someone tell me how to fix this please.
Thanks in advance.
follow the link I provided above. On that thread you will find the Schen's 2.1 Home cab install. Remove your exisiting install of home, d/l and install this new one, then follow the directions in that thread for adding your city.
I do notice that on my Weather screen it doesn't auto update until I go to it, then it takes like 15secs but I'm not gonna mess with it. Apparently I'm pretty lucky here compared to others...

that's the way it works, HTCs idea of auto is refresh when I get there, not refresh in background. no worries, it usually goes pretty fast....

Is there any way to use you current GPS location as the weather that the HTC Weather tab uses? I know I can manually change the city and such.. but it would be nice if I update the weather, it pulls it up for where ever my location is at that point automatically.. Even if it is not >MY< exact location but maybe where the cell tower is or something... it would be great.. Any suggestions on how to do this?
Yeap
There is a software called LocalWeather. It has weather informaiton via gps. May be you wanna use.

Live Search (no Bing!) does this. It'll 'locate' you, and if you click on the weather icon it'll give you the weather for where you're at.
I have been wanting something like what you asked for. I'm sure a mortscript of some sort can do this.
can't you just look into the sky to see the weather where you are?
I wonder if any one else if having the same problems as myself with the weather app on the Hero. It also seems to effect the widget on the homescreen as well.
The first place in the list always seems to be the current city which is great if it works. I am forever getting 'No weather data available' although if I add my city manually it gets the five day forcast no problem.
The problem is that now I am in the same city I added manually the 'current city' overwrites the one I added manually and returns the same'No weather data available'.
This bug only seems to effect the area I live in but seems to work as it should in other parts of the country.
Any one else in Reading (UK) having the same issue?
I have tried a hard reset and even played with the settings out of town to see if that would help
I'm in Edinburgh and having the exact same issue, as are several other people in this city. I've heard people in various locations across the country complain about the same thing.
I've not come across a solution yet, I think it will have to be in an update from HTC.
yup, same in Cambridge.
Same here. If I select "Rearrange" I now have multiple entries for Cambridge...

Same here in the uk, the widget and application never seem to match up - finds city on one but not the other. Plus the add your city screen in the setup(s) is very tempromental and sometimes does not let you select or even recognise your existing ones.
Further to that the weather / clock widget responds to quickly to a touch so when you swipe the home screen (if you have the clock / weather clock in primary position) it opens the options dialog instead of moving spaces.
I removed the htc clock and weather widgets because of the above problems. I like the "bling" that they bring to the interface but in real life I can turn my head and look out of the window quicker than I can pick up and press the power button on the handset.
I'm in Edinburgh, same is happening :{
It was working fine in Aberdeen, and when I came to Edinburgh it detected that and showed weather ok.. until I rebooted...
I'm in Darlington, and am having the same problem which is really begining to annoy me.
Has anyone actually complained to HTC about this bug? It seems to affect the HD2 too.
I gave up with HTC weather widgit and use Snowstorm weather widget available from the market, gets the weather where ever I am in the UK all the time.
Hi I am from Macedonia and I have the same problem...
The widget on the home screen displays other city when I chose current location... And I love this widget... I am in pain!!!
So far no solution...
I have MDA Mail too... And back then my city was not on the list...
So I did search around in the windows directory and found a txt file
containing the list... Soon enough i found that the codes listed are
the same as the ones used on Accuweather.
So i edited the file and than I was able to select my city...
But the app said that it was unable to get the condition
for my city.
So i give up...
I think that maybe the problem does not lies in the widget it self.
I had the same problem. Just delete the widget and add it again. Go to Add to Home (+) button -> HTC Widget -> Clock.... And just choose the one you want with the weather app. It worked for me
same here
I currently have the Eris.... vzw's hero... and same issue im in the usa it always displays weather when im home or out but when im home it shows me weather for a town 45 miles from my house, i came to this phone from HTC Imagio(whitestone) and Touch Pro 2(rhodium) and same issues on those phones seems to be an HTC bug and not carrier specific.
PS.. have deleted and reinstalled works fine till first update.... i ahev tried both cell location and gps, cell location only, and gps only..
remove the clock widget and re-add it and then when it asks you to set your location dont use the gps fix (my current location), just pick your city from the list or search for it.
Its not a fix but assuming you stay in one place it at least means the weather report shown will work
Hello. Had the same problem with 'No weather data available' in the HTC weather. I have freshly flashed the EnergyROM_21889_BLACKSTONE_20.Jan.2010_StandardM2.5_MaxManila to my HTC HD. It would not refresh via GSM HSDPA Internet connecion, but when I switched to WiFi network Internet, it worked! Then switched back to 3G Internet and still works as it should. As if HTC weather referred to wrong connection at the very startup. Hope this will help some of you.
Go to Weather Tab>Menu>Enable My Location
If you're lucky it will show the weather of your current location and otherwise it won't.
Sorry for my bad english,

this worked. I switched to Wifi and clicked update and it downloaded the data. I then turned Wifi off and now it still updates.
I've got exactly the same problem as the guy in the first post on my HTC Desire. I also live in Reading and the weather doesn't work using current location, but works fine when I have added Reading manually. It's really annoying because I'd prefer the widget to use my current location rather than always Reading.
had the same problem, on polaris. solved.
as someone here said, i let it connect via wi-fi and since then all ok.
very odd...
but hey, it works!

Hi,
I'm lookong for a weather widget to add citys not available on the HTC Hero weather application.
RucaNebas
Weatherbug might have this - I use the HTC widget with "current location". This gets the weather based on your GPS location - which although consumes the battery more, works just as I need it.
Thanks for your feedback Simon.
In fact, I would like to add a unavailable city on the current HTC Hero weather application.
I don't want to add another application.
You know what I mean?
Thanks
RucaNebas
i would like to know this to. On my Diamond i had before it was possible, i am hoping that hero could do that too
Only way I know is to visit said place and add current location to your cities. Will be there for all time then.
Not useful if you need to find the weather before you go.
well this is what I did:
open weather application
push "plus sign" (bottom right corner)
push "my location"
your location will be showing on the googlemap and you see red pin.
zoom out and find your desirable location on the map.
drag the red pin to this location and push "Done"
you get the text "finding location", then you will have this location name and coordinates displayed... now just add this location and... you have it on the weather. then update the weather and it displays your custom weather conditions with others.
... at least it works for me.

well... that what exactly what it said before I pushed "update" (in the left bottom corner). at the beginning it gave me a message "no weather data available for your location"... but after update it got exactly what needed...
if not, try another location, maybe closest town or similar...
Thank you anyway.
Another location near the location that we wish, could be a solution in did.
Thanks

That's right for 1.5 but "my location" option still exists in 2.1
go to parameters/location and put both options on (or maybe just GPS)
and you will see "my location" again
BUT now the problem is different : when you select your location it works great UNTIL you leave it and go to another city
then no more track of the last city, weather app didn't save it
i used this way when i wanted to save a city which was not in the list
now it's impossible
does some one a solution ?

I also find this quite disappointing. The lack of "my location" option on the 2.1 weather app. is a fail. When you get an update you should get more options and functionalities, don't you?
I think the only way to avoid this problem is to replace the new app by the old one. But I don't know if it's so easy at it sounds. Does anybody know how to do it and if it should work without any problem?
I am unable to get the 'my location' status section of the weather widget to actually name my location e.g. Wembley / Westminster / Boston ... Reflecting wherever I am.
I am sure that previous weather apps were able to do this. It would automatically update according to one's location. In settings, all the location options have been selected inc. GPS. The only way I can get a place name to display right now, is if I manually select a city. :-\
I am sûre that i have overlooked something very simple to allow this function to work. Any ideas would be great. Thank you

Thanks for the suggestion. Only issue is, the weather app is integrated into blinkfeed, so it cannot be temporarily removed or deleted. Not sure how to get this to work...
EDIT - After de-selecting and selecting location services, went for a reboot of system. Then, prompt box came up on screen, asking whether I agreed or disagreed for Google to collect anonymous location information. I selected Agree and now location is displayed! Solved

The actual cause is in settings, power, fast boot. Turn this off and reboot. Make sure you have location services on as well.

Thx! The described method also helps if the phone has trouble to find a location indoor without GPS. I couldnt use Google Maps at home cause it would never find a GPS connection.
Now it just uses the WLAN and mobile connection to get the location. Great!
