I need help from you guys as you guys are the gurus...
I'm a noobie for android os and m using nexus one here in malaysia with the latest 2.1 ota update 1
i understand that maps 4.0 is in the market but i can't find it plus the current maps is still at 3.4.0
so anyone can help me out as I don't intend to root my phone just yet.
I know some told me to uninstall the current maps but sadly its no where in the settings > manage applications
You can uninstall by going to Manage Applications, then hitting menu, and filter. Select All under filter to see pre-installed apps.
I'm not sure if this will help you though... maybe 4.0 isn't available outside of the U.S. and the UK.

i want 3rd party app
no to be harsh, but your approaching this the wrong way. You are demanding something, when what you want is already available. With a quick search, you would find out that you probably need to root your phone, then run the market enabler which will give you access to the android market. Then you will have access to various 3rd party youtube clients and map applications.
How to get appsinstaller?
thanks for the info. I have the same problem. To root this phone I need to install appsintaller for installing apk from my SD card. But I cannot find appsinstaller anywhere except from Android Market.
Indian Magic's are locked
Hey,
I was in the same position a couple of weeks back - in fact, the phone dealer advised me not to buy the Magic. Boy, was he wrong.
Unfortunately, there is no short easy way to get all applications as HTC sells a locked version of the Magic in India. You'll have to install a new version of your phone's software. I must add that, IT IS DANGEROUS and if you dont follow directions, are not comfortable with making a lot of changes, then don't. You could end up losing a phone. On the other hand, it works (I have proof) and its worth it as you get tons of applications!
The procedure I followed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548379 (please be careful in following everything). You'll need to reformat your memory card into a gold card - but everything is there in the tutorial.
For the final ROM you use, I would suggest: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=552274 In my opinion its much better than the Dream ROM.
The Sapphire Wiki (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Sapphire_Hacking) has details on what all the terms mean, and how you can update your ROMs.
Let me know when you manage to complete the update!

you gotta fine "market enable" in the market. its free. it will stimulate the market and make your operator change to other operator just like t-mo, then u'll be able to search paid apps.
I see there's a new Google Maps in market. I currently have navigation enabled, so I'm wondering if this new version officially adds NAV support. Has anyone downloaded it? Will it break my navigation if I do?

It officially supports navigation yes, and no it shouldn't break your current navigation, at least I don't think it should.
But, since it's basically the same as what you have now, you don't really need to update.
google maps update provides navigation for 1.6, but voice commands are disabled. Not sure if it will break your custom navi, but the custom navi at least has all its features?

BUT with the official version, you'll be notified via Market of updates. With the hacked version, there wouldn't be continuing notifications of updates.
Maybe small potatoes.
I keep getting installation unsuccessful. Help?
remove all traces of maps in apps/cache.
uninstall the custom maps version you're running and all traces of it (just like you had to do in order to install the custom maps originally) and then install the market version.
I've removed everything. Still getting the same error on installation.
screw it. thank god for nandroid
Hi,
So I recently traveled out of the US to China for vacation, and when I was there I decided to check/download some updates for my Downloaded apps in the Android Market. Notably I could not see the Android Market Front Page when connected in China (must be Google block?), however I could see which of my apps had updates.
However, I'm back in the US now and when I go into the Market to update my apps, none of the downloaded apps are showing. I tried using Appbrain to update them, but that failed as well, and now the only apps that show up in my Market are the ones Appbrain listed as having updates. I tried using an app like Market History Delete but that didn't work either.
I figure it must be some Market sync issue or something, but is there anything that can be done short of doing a complete factory wipe? Thanks.
My wife and I came back from a 6 month stay in China last year. I had a similar issue. I think I has to go under manage applications, filer for "All", and force stop the app then uninstall updates. I then rebooted the phone and it worked for me. My wifes phone had the same problem but my solution did not work for hers. So I dont want to say it will work for you, but its did for me. I'm afraid I dont know what else to tell you. Let me know if it works for you.
After manually updating to Android Gingerbread (2.3.3), I cannot access Google Voice. I can't uninstall it because it's not visible in the list of applications on my device but I can't install it from the market because the market says the application is already installed.
anyone ave the same issue?
Google has a forum
You can Google it and find the answer in different posts from different sites, like engadget, zdnet or other places
Google knows about it and is looking into the issues.

Yeah, I had the same issue. Apparently Google blocked Google Voice for those of us outside of the U.S. The workaround is to sideload an older version of the GV app, like this one: https://www.dropbox.com/s/rvp60p7bbnk9nc1/com.google.android.apps.googlevoice-1.apk
It worked for me.
Not sure if it will stick through a reboot though. You may have to reinstall it after every boot, although you may not.
