Which one is better overall? (Speed & Battery)
It all depends on you but I would choose SuperD
Fasttest is watermarked everywhere (like for my instead of saying phone model Mytouch 3G it says FastTest 3G)
I like FastTest. I also like WaterMarks, makes it more custom. Idk. Something about it.
A combination of both?
CSDIV4 hella fast, original post of this is in the general section if you want to see comments about it.

QFT!
SuperD w/ WesGarner's Kernel is amazing. And for more speed, enable JIT.
I don't remember the last time I had a force close since I've been using this combo...
i was on super d roms for abit, then i switched to fasttest, not switching back fasttest to me is really cool, and can't wait for 2.9 release
FastTest
I just flashed FastTest and I like it a little bit more than SuperD.
As far as speed goes, i'd rate them
cyanogen
superd
blue magic roms
super d being the sweet spot between speed and stability.
That being said, I flashed to TheOfficial's rooted stock rom.
No cool new features, but it doesn't get anymore stable or
speedy.
Edit: Also, if you wanna get a list going, download benchmark from marketplace and post results.

I found that after about 3 weeks cyanogen got really slow for me. It was laggy and froze a lot. I had to pull the battery almost daily

Same for me Cyanogen was Eclair slow and I had up hang the gloves for that Rom.
Any flavor of Super D will suit you and be more than enough.
FastTest in the end is a themed up SuperD I believe as well.
Both definitely deserves major recognition!

Sorry for such a general question but, what's the best, fastest and most stable rom up to date? Something that runs on the Hero layout would be nice =). I am currently running MoDaCo's Hero rom(5.3) which is quite fast, but seems a bit outdated now. I've tried other roms like Eclair 2.2 and KingKlair's 1.0 rom(which was incredibly slow and had FCs D. If anyone could give me suggestions(don't say search bar, as that thing hates me) to what roms are good it'd be great . Sorry if I'm asking too much here, but some eyecandy would be good too =D.

Do you know if video on that rom lags ._.' as some Ecalir roms I've tried had laggy video whenever I tried to view something.
all eclair drivers will have problems playing video since there are no video drivers that have been released for the G1/MT3G...
That news is quite depressing :'(. Guess I'll just stick with Modaco's until a fix arrives.

in my opinion super D 1.6 or 1.6.6 < waiting for 1.7 should be out any time. are the BEST roms. fast, no problems so far. and runs market and all the good stuff...
idk if it's what your looking for since it's not much for eye candy, but it's an efficiant rom.
hope i helped
super D 1.6 is amazing. I loved it, and still have it on my switchrom for when I need a fast phone. Other than that I use MLIGN 3.2B hero. Maybe wait it out a few months until switching to espresso. Happy flashing
honestly, the best advice i can give you is to just try out different roms. each rom runs differently on every different device. xROM Eclair by JAC runs beautifully for me. absolutely amazing, but for someone else, it may be awful. it's all about how it does on your device, so just try out different ones and pick the one that suits you best.
I would recommend CSDIv1...its super fast and stable. But if you do like Sense UI, I use MLIGN Hero 3.1B...but as grandomegabosses recomended, I suggest you to try each rom and decide by yourself, because not everybody have the same setup, ie. Swap, Ext, Swapiness, Clock...and that may cause differencies of speed on one phone and another
Best ROM up to date
King's AOSP 2.1 [v1.2] hands down!
The fastest and most stable Eclair rom yet. It has tons of eye candy and lightning fast for an eclair rom.
Flash it now!

Thanks for all the help, ended up going with Super D's rom and I must say this rom is hella fast =)
Best rom to date is the stock rom on Nexus
Since I'm not to inclined to buy a Nexus One I was wondering what would be best for getting Eclair on my G1. I see the OpenEclair Beta 2, a JAC Eclair ROM, and a KingKlick Eclair ROM. I'm sure all of these have their merits but I can't seem to find a decent comparison. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
For Me riite Now Is KingKlick : So just try it =D
I would agree with above in terms of stability. If you want to have one that's more customizable, get openeclaire.
-EDIT-
Oh and manup 1.6 is pretty nice too.
Yep the community rom is the most stable and fast for me atm, May not be feature loaded like the others but still best for everyday use
im using bbuchacher's SuperD 1.7
its amazingly fast and very stable for me. go check out the thread... its my everyday rom for now

I am on JAC's 1.1 right now and loving it. Fast and stable for me.
kings is the best get overclockwidget and droid swapper.
528 on
128 screen off
swap 96mb
swappiness at 80
oh and class 6 sd card too.
it blows any cyanogen away and runs as fast if not just a bit faster than superd 1.7
I'm actually using Intension Eclair 1.3.2 (pre-OpenEclair).
Main reason I decided to use it over the others is because i don't want to partition my SD card to swap with ext2/3/4 or whatever it is
Pretty fast and stable for me and its been an everyday ROM since Beta 4
I've decided to go with JAC 1.1. Thanks for helping me out. Now, to find a theme...
Check out my Blue_Haze ROM. I take no real claim to this, thought I did build and compile quite a bit of it, I really only followed what other, more skilled devs did (mainly JAC and CTSO). It is a mix of nice features from eclair ROMs, which I have made work very nice together. It is fast, stable, and I have had no complaints.

bold, bold statement. any body want to confirm this?
i prefer jacrom 1.1.1 with the dark theme. (its on his site at justanotherdev.slackdev.com)

It's not as fast as a donut rom. By blow away, if he means the interface, then yes, because 2.1 is a nicer interface than donut. I don't agree with the statement that it's as fast as superd.
Hey guys,
Could anyone suggest to me the fastest, most stable ROM for my G1 that doesn't run into any issues (especially from everyday use).
I've used plenty of them, mainly sourcing off Cyanogen but I seem to always get some delays especially with my phone, so many people have told me they tried ringing me but went straight to voicemail and my phone has no missed calls or anything, just sitting idle and this is a major pain.
I'm currently on the original version waiting to upgrade, is there an official Cupcake version I can download? My calls coming in quickly are more important than themes right now.
Thanks!
Im using CSDIv1....its a FAST rom. I dont have Swap enable(Sucks battery) nor 10MB Ramhack(Like my 3D apps), and still its a really fast rom.
There is only one problem with it, and its that the Keyboard is on Spanish. But you can change it just pushing a folder to the system, and voila. If you need some asistance, just ask.
I suggest the latest MghtyMax ROM. Is the fastest and stable Hero ROM I've tested.
super d 1.8...i made the switch from Cyanogen a few weeks ago and its been 100% worth it. Super D's rom is lighting fast I promise and i had a problem with missed texts on CM's rom and have not had that problem since i switched.

I keep hearing this, and as soon as my class 6 micro comes in, I think Im gonna have to try it.
Its hard to believe, as I just flashed cyanogen 4.2.14.1 ands its freakin fast. Hard to believe theres a faster one.
Guess I ll have to give it a shot. Has anyone actually tried cyanogens newest and compared it to super d 1.8? Is it really THAT much faster?

Thanks for your help man.
For everyday use you want Cyanogen.
For Speed get either FastTest or SuperD. They're basically the same thing.
Hope this helps.
I suggest DarkStar theme for Cyanogen and SuperD
I use king's 2.3 hero rom, I only use hero roms anyway though, best normal rom I've tried, however is super d. although, cyanogen is very "noob friendly"

Hmm..Im curious why you say that. What makes Cyanogen more "everyday useable"? What would you actually say are the biggest differences in the 2 roms?
Really they're all apples, just different flavours. From what I've read, they all have the same bits and bites from Eclair; cyanogen's modded code (right?). I personally pick CM over everything else because the community support for CM is a larger, more discussion. Of course, this doesn't mean the other ones are inferior. You should try them all for like a day or two. Wipe before you try a new one, so you can tell which one really works best.
2.1 Roms on the other hand I think need more work. Not all the drivers work yet. I tried OpenEclair and I felt a bit handicap compared to the 1.6 Roms. Also, for me at least, it didn't feel as fast as the 1.6 Roms. Good roms but need more work.
I was running Cyonogen for some time and I was pleased but I love to experiment. For the last 2 weeks I've been testing the 2.1 ASOP roms out from King(1.5) and Enclair (1.15). Both are great builds but I prefer the customization in enclair more and both are fairly stable. I was having the issue of texts getting deleted and the Rom's just seemed like they were not as quick as I wanted them to be. I enjoyed the new layout but I was finally just frustrated with overall performance and I keep reading about the Super D build. I wiped my phone and threw it on few hours ago and WOW! It is blazing fast and very stable from what I can see so far. I've tried some apps out that were proving difficult before and just wow I am amazed. This build may be on the 1.6 based side but I am glad to have performance back over some "prettyness". I may try the 2.1 builds again but I will wait for all of the kinks to work out. So my opinion is hands down Super D ( I believe it was 1.8 v) is the best build available right when looking at overall performance and stability. I love it! Made my day!
*on a side note*
I could never get Youtube to install and work with the enclair ASOP 2.1 builds, it was very frustrating as you cannot download the app from the app store and issues installing manually via the APK.
I found AmonRa 1.6.3 to be the fastest and stable ROM, in my opinion

I want speed, stabilitiy and normal functionality for the phone for my girlfriend. It looks like the Cyanogen is the safest bet... am I right to infer that 2.0/2.1 ROMs aren't quite up to snuff yet?

In my experience, 1.6 will always be snappier then 2.0/2.1 builds; at least for now. Our G1s don't exactly have a huge amount of space to store bigger ROMs. Really having 2.1 isn't necessary but it does have some nice features that 1.6 doesn't have. Like ability to have multiple google accounts and facebook sync. I can't really think of anything else of the top of my head but I'm sure there are at least a few others.
One thing people haven't gotten to work on 2.1 ROMs for G1, is the video camera. Camera works though on most 2.1 ROMs now (all?). The new contacts display for 2.1 is nice but even laggier then the one used in 1.6 ROMs. Can't think of anything else, someone help!
Basically, 2.1 has a lot more STUFF in general. Whether you need this extra stuff is up to you, because STUFF needs more RAM stuff, and G1 is low in that department.
My opinion:
MghtyMax 1.9.1 is veeeery fast!!! (with Swap, SetCpu and all that stuff, of course)
I like any of the Roms from King's collection and I like Super-D verry much too. Cyanogen's rom has a larger community cause that's normally what people hear when learning about rooting and stuff. I only used Cyan when I compared Enom to Cyan and Enom's was faster and everything was great.Super-D is faster than Cyan but seems slower than Enom's, Cyan has the eclair stuff just like Super-D. But I think its up to what you like you cant let others decide cause their perception of speed is diff from yours.

I just actually read about that rom, and it seems good. What makes me wonder though, is that some people say its faster than Super D. How could it actually be faster, as this rom is more or less just Super D with a theme installed? Surely, having the theme installed would decrease performance buy a little bit, vs increase it.
But what do I know
Edit: Ok, Im stupid. as Fast Test doesnt have the Eclaire stuff, thats where a performance increase would come. **slams head on keyboard**
Super D, hands down. No rom even comes close.
And Fast Test 2.3 IS Super D, just with a theme, so unless you want that specific theme, there's no point in getting Fast Test, when Super D is available.
I'm stuck between KiNgxKxlicK AOSP 2.1 v1.6.1 vs CM v4.2.14.1
What would you choose/using and why??
CM because it has all the drivers atm. I love eclair, but I want everything to work. Once those are out, Cyanogen will make an eclair also, so I will probably flash that over once it comes around.

If you want a 2.1 ROM= OpenEclair
If you want Donut=Dunkin Donuts
...If you want a 1.6 ROM=Super D
if i were to recommend a 2.1 rom, i would suggest Cloverdale's Blue_Haze OE v1.1. yes, it's not on xda, but do some research and you will be rewarded.
I like Super D 1.9.2 because of the speed but then it has the downfall of the 10mb hack during games like ShootU! Which I loved, had to refund it

I did research all i found was his theme. Besides how much better can his be compared to others? Honestly coming from a Kinglick AOSP 2.1 ROM i love it and its by far the best compared to other 2.1 roms i've tested. As far as speed and stability goes, Anyways.
And I've been seeing alot of Super D flying around, But how fast are his ROMS? Like 'Super tap an app and open fully' fast or 'Tap an app and wait 2-3 seconds for it to fully show'?
And by the way, @xabierd Any ROM is ACCEPTED! Just wanna know what people are using and WHY? I mean, because it has video working. It's lighting fast. It's stable. It has a certain feel you like, WHATEVER!
DROP IN YOUR 2!!
I've grown to hate my G1 over the last few days (got an iPad [don't be hatin'] a few days ago and my dad got a G2 today) because it's so incredibly slow. But, due to the iPad I now only use it for calls, texts and tethering.
Can anyone suggest me a fast, stable ROM to hold me over 'till I get the G2? Donut or later is preferred.
