Need some clarification - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok I have been looking through the tutorials for 2 days now and I finally today rooted my G1 and upgraded to the Cyanongen rom. Everything seems to be working great except for one issue. I attempted to install and run the tether wifi app but when I do I get this message "Cannot start Tether service Error: Permission denied. I am guessing it is not allowing it to run because the phone somehow did not get rooted.
When I rooted and installed Cyanongen I followed these directions
wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_G1/Dream_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
I made sure that I followed each step carefully and didnt miss anything.
I then found this tutorial which had slightly different instructons on how to to root from the one I posted previously.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563679
Am I going to have to start all over again with the tutorial listed above? Or can I do something to simply add root access to the current rom I have installed? Thanks alot for any help you can give me

No you should still be good. This seems like a pretty simple fix. Go into your app drawer, open up superuser permisions app, and delete everything thats checked with a (-). Then, open the wireless tether app and click on allow, and check the remember box. That should fix it!

[Q] {Q} Busybox/root?

//EDIT: Please delete this thread. Titanium Backup installed BusyBox for me after I clicked the "Problem?" button. Sorry!
**Skip to the other asterisked line to skip the long story**
Last night I decided "(vulgarity here) AT&T!" and decided to load FroYo myself.
After reading for hours (on top of reading I've been doing for a few weeks) it seemed it was easier to root on 2.1, then update to 2.2.
I rooted, then installed 2.2 only to find out I was no longer rooted when I tried restoring my apps with MyBackup Pro. After tons of searching and trying 3 "one click" style rooting programs, many times over, the SuperOneClick method worked, only after I did the shell root, and then root button.
Awesome! I had a rooted 2.2 captivate! Restoring my apps with MyBackup Pro let me knew it worked, and then I was also able to install a non-market foreign language pack for the AnySoftKeyboard app. I also installed the MarketAccess app and I'm running the T-Mobile US code, so I'm pretty sure I've got root.
Tonight I wanted to get rid of all the AT&T garbage still on the phone, and a guide I found told me that Titanium Backup would allow me to do so (still not sure if it can all be done from the phone though). I downloaded and installed Titanium Backup, opened it up, clicked the button to allow SuperUser, but I get an error message:
Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work ! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox, and try again.
Pretty sure I'm rooted, I am assuming I only require BusyBox be on the phone?
**I was under the impression that rooting and BusyBox was the same thing, or went hand-in-hand, one needing the other.
After now 4 more hours of searching, I can't seem to find a guide that only installs BusyBox, and I'm hesitant to try any of the Root and BusyBox in one methods for fear of the root not working and potentially messing something up.
I found one posting that requires a bunch of commands, but I have no idea where to do them from/in or what to do with the phone.
If anybody could link me to or tell me how to install BusyBox that would be awesome! I am rooted on FroYo. I have the drivers installed. I have DroidExplorer installed. Not sure of anything else that may have come in the .zip files I downloaded that might be installed, so assume only the drivers and DroidExplorer and installed.
Thanks in advanced!!
Busybox is an app on the market, download, open app, install, profit

Issues after rooting n1, please help

Ok Firstly I did search, I couldnt find anything, maybe its cause im tired and frustrated, but i couldnt find any help to my problems. And i apologize in advance for my noobtardness.
Ok here it goes....I finally rooted my phone, after alot of research and almost a year of owning it I decided to make the leap.
Well i followed the instructions here (forum dot xda-developers dot com/showthread.php?t=636795) and everything went nice and smooth...until i did step 3 under "ROOT", after the reboot is when it started acting up. It reboots every couple of minutes is always wanting to force close, and freezes up on the launcher select screen, my n1 is unusable.....
now heres the other thing, i searched around online, tried doing the superboot following the instructions here (theunlockr dot com/2010/01/02/how-to-root-the-nexus-one/) well after i finish step step 9 my phone reboots and works just fine.
now the real problem, when i reboot with my n1 working it stops working, does the same stuff it did before, unless i go back into "fastboot usb" and do step 9 again.
anyone know how to fix this??? And thank you again for any help and for dealing with my noobness
When SU - Superuser was installed on the phone during root, did you click the checkbox to always allow SU permissions while the phone was being rooted? Also during initial bootup after the root, did you do the same for the programs requesting SU access?
I had a similar situation where I "thought" I rooted - however I never checked the box and clicked accept, so I got a lot of force closes and issues from that. Basically, I wasn't watching the N1 screen while the root process was taking place and didn't see the pop-up.
After I tried rooting through superboot again, I saw the pop-up, made sure the box was checked and clicked accept - then it worked fine. Also make sure you do that for any other programs that need routine root access like Titanium Backup or ROM Manager or else you'll have issues.
No I didn't see anything pop up for SU, guess I shoulda been paying a little more attention.
In order to do it over do I need to unroot first??? If so what's the best way to do so???
NM, just found the unroot steps on xda, I will try it when I get home, hope it works this time hope I pay more attention this time.

[SCRIPT] GladEnabler v1.05 (All Rooted Phones Supported-Updated 05/12/2011)

Updated: 05/12/2011
GladiAtrix Enabler v1.05 (Sideloading/Tethering APN)
Quick and simple tool to enable sideloading or add the AT&T tethering APN to your device, should you need it. This requires root to work
Also, this is a Windows only script. If anyone wants to port this to Linux or OSX I'd be happy to include links in the main post.
TESTED working on:
Rooted AT&T Firmware 4.1.26
Rooted AT&T Firmware 4.1.52
Rooted AT&T Firmware 4.1.57
Rooted AT&T Firmware 4.1.83
Rooted Bell Firmware 0.37.4
If you test it and it works on a version different than listed here, let me know and I'll update the first post
I do not have anything but an AT&T Atrix to test this on, but the sideloading fix should work if any device. The tethering APN is only for AT&T as it's carrier specific.
Little bit of additional info here:
Enables sideloading for any device
Adds AT&T tethering APN
You need to click "allow" to superuser when prompted.
Installation instructions:
Read the directions.
Read the directions again.
Read the directions a third time. If you do not understand a step, ASK before starting.
Download the script
Extract the files to C:\GladEnable. Do not install anywhere else. Having it inside a folder with a space will cause the script to FAIL.
Enable USB debugging (Settings -> Applications -> Development).
Connect your phone (I recommend setting USB Connection to 'None').
Run GladEnable.bat (If you're using Windows 7, run as admin by holding down control and double-clicking).
Follow the on-screen directions. You will need to tap "Allow" on your phone for each step.
Make sure you allow the superuser request on your phone or it WILL fail.
All done!
DISCLAIMER
I am not responsible if this bricks your phone or if it doesn't work properly for you. I've done everything I can to ensure smooth execution.
If you have any issues, feel free to PM me, reply to this thread, or come find me on IRC (I'm Fenrir or fenfone on IRC)
I realize it doesn't say it in the OP, but does this add the reboot option like your original Mod?
Brilliant, Ririal
Thanks for all your amazing work. I plan on running this script tomorrow.
In the event that reboot is not in the power popup, I really like Quickboot from the market. I have a shortcut to reboot the phone under my power widget. Works great.

This is not the GladiAtrix rom. It only does sideloading/tethering APN for users who just want to enable that, or for users who were using v1 of my retain root script and didn't enable it before hand with aRoot.
The ROM (when it's done, I'm having some issues with the installer. The ROM part is technically finished ) has the reboot power menu option.

Awesome Ririal. Will the new version of the ROM root 4.1.57 without needing to go back to 4.1.26 first?

Ok, I'm having problems with activating tethering in general. It seems that moto blocked tethering completely. I did v2 of retain root, i used this script, and i also tried it manually and each one of them says that i need a tethering plan. did moto fix this for good?

Thanks Ririal,
Many people are realizing that Titanium Backup restores App+Data well, but most system data and settings restores are breaking functionality. A factory reset will restore Blur account and some other settings that are lost but will also make side loading and tethering go away.
Now users we have a way to get those back with out a full SBF.

Bang! You got me! This is exactly what happened to me.
This update totally fixed my sideloading and tethering issues.
BTW, the script failed on me the first time, I'm not sure why. Something about permission denied on ./data/local/tmp/gladenable.sh. But the second time I ran it, everything worked.
Thank you so much Ririal!

Probably just missed the superuser allow request on your phone, that's why you got permission denied.

It's possible that Motorola patched the workaround for tethering. All this script does is add the custom APN, which used to work. I haven't looked at other methods for permanently enabling tethering as this method has worked for me in the past.
Manually add APN
Is it possible to add an APN without using the script, like with the Samsung Captivate, I'm asking because I'm planning to use the phone outside the US therefore I'm gonna need an APN not from AT&T...
Thanks in advanced
run the batch file without errors but i still can't get the tethering to work. My phone is sim unlocked and on 4.1.57 rooted...
Hi,
Ran the script and allowed the Superuser prompt, all finished without error --- yet I still don't have the sideloading option in Applications->Development
And when I try to sideload an app, keep getting an error message that it isn't allowed for my safety ..
What am I missing here? Am on 1.5.7 Gladiatrix, root is working fine.
Thanks for any help!

Great work on all your programs and want to say THANKS for all your work with the atrix. one thing I would like to know. is there an app to install the clock and weather app as the htc phones have on them?
Problems...
I'm having an issue while running the command. I'm a recent iPhone user so this is all new to me. First I'd like to make sure this is all I need to do in order to install 3rd party apps (a.k.a. apps I obtain online) I don't need to do a full-blown root, do I?
While the command is running, it first asks me, "Do you want to install sideloading?" I input 'y' and hit Enter. That results in: " /system/bin/su: not found " Does this mean I need to root first?
Maybe one or more files are not getting extracted, but I don't see anything else in the download. My download contains 5 files.
1. GladEnable.bat
2. gladenable.sh
3. abd.exe
4. AdbWinApi.dll
5. AdbWinUsbApi.dll
Let me know if there's anything else you need that would help solve the problem.

It clearly states that you need to be rooted for this to work. Please read the post before asking questions that are already answered.

You can add a manual APN in the settings menu, yes.

Works for me, unsure what the issue could be. Enable the APN, then reboot your phone, I was having issues prior to reboot myself.

Not sure, never had the sideloading not work for me. This doesn't add the checkbox in the application settings menu (what reason do you really need to uncheck it?), it just enables it. Make sure the script is completing successfully with no errors.

That's a part of HTC sense. You can buy Beautiful Widgets from the market that includes copies of those widgets.

Help with rooting

Hi guys. Some background...
I have installed the 03 version of Null, and previously to that, I had attempted to root the phone following the sticky guide.
Almost everything has gone great. Why almost ?
I did follow the guide for rooting initially, but when I get to try to access the DATA folder (in order to proceed with other mods) using root explorer, it does not allow me access, saying device has to be rooted.
After a while I gave up and then last night I installed Null v.03. All is fine.
So far I have Nova and a few other apps in the gear using side loading etc. But still do not have access to full root.
It will never ask me to grant full permission once root explorer runs for the first time, no matter how many times I tried to redo it all over again.
Anyway, I am not sure right now whether I need it or not but ..... Any idea ?
P.S. When I run impactor, I see towards the end, the screen of the gear turning into that command line code if I can call it that, only a top line appears but nothing else is written...screen goes off and that's it after. No other notifications on gear or PC.
Just thought to mention that. Don't know if that's what it is supposed to happen or I am missing anything...Don't know if other lines of code or programming are supposed to show while impactor does its thing.
Thanks
Anyone has an idea ?
Thanks.

[Q] Polaris office port install qiestion

Hello. I found a Polaris office 5 link which will work with rooted devices http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2611723. Installed as a systems app. I'm rooted, locked BL. After flashing in TWRP it will be there. Trying to open it gives the unfortunately app has stopped message. Looking to clear data in apps it shows no data at all. I go to root explorer find the apk, run in, install new and whamo - works great, no watermark, nothing. However, this is where the problem is, once I restart phone it is back to being uninstalled. It's still in system apps and libs are still there, permission are set. I'm not sure if I missed something. Followed the directions. Searched all over. Is this something to do with being rooted but still having a locked BL? If anyone knows the reason I know where the thank you button is.
