Treo 750v Unbrand - Palm Treo 750 ROM Development

I've completed the tutorial for unlock & debrand from here:
Thread 511763 (for some reason I'm not allowed to put a link here, sorry)
And I've flashed WM6.1 from SD card.
However, when I go to turn the phone on or off, I still get the "Vodafone" Logo splash screen. Also, the VBE Email link is still there, and the Business theme.
The unlock must have gone ok, because I'm using an O2 sim...
Any ideas how to rid myself of the vodafone 'ware? I tried a hard reset after flashing, but it's not done any good.
Thanks!

Hmm, have you tried flashing a different, non-Vodafone Palm ROM instead, like say an AT&T ROM? If it still has the Vodafone logo during Phone On/Off then that's the weirdest case of Carrier embedded Software that I've heard of o_o
By the way, if you have a Vodafone branded Treo like I have, it helps to flash a different Palm ROM onto it. For some reason, Vodafone Treo's have a lot more than 1 folder in their Ext ROM.

I thought the 6.1 ROM I used was unbranded... Or do you mean the radio?

The thing about Treo750 ROMs, they work like this:
Official Palm Treo 750 ROMs contain BOOTLOADER, SPLASH, GSM, EXT, and OS areas. Aside from the first two, "GSM" contains the radio only, "EXT" contains carrier data and program installs (for example the VBE email setup), and OS contains the actual WM6.x.
Custom Treo OS ROMs contain no EXT ROM whatsoever (except for Official Palm ROMs), and depending on the type of WM6.1 you flashed, it will pull information from EXT ROM. That means unless you delete data in the EXT ROM, the OS will continue to pull the CAPpackage and CAP data from there and stick it into the WINDOWS folder.
The thing I mentioned about Vodafone 750v Treo's, is that multiple folder Partition's in EXT (at least in my 750v). The way I cleared that guaranteed was to flash a different carrier's ROM that contained only 1 Partition folder in EXT rom, delete that, then flash WM6.1 over it. Worked every time for me.

That's done it, thanks!
I used 7zip to extract the nbh from the official palm WM6 updater and flashed it via SD. When it had finished all the branding was gone!

Extended ROM Woes - Vairo

I have a unlocked T-Mobile Vairo with an Orange SIM. Phone calls work fine but no GRPS as the setting are incorrect of course.
So I did the following:
1.Unlocked the Extended ROM (using "Unlock Ext Rom Wizard.cab") and can now see it with the File Explorer
2.Attempted to install the IMate cab file ("Orange_UK_Contract.CAB") for Orange Contract to the extened rom.
I had the following issues:
1. I can now see the extened rom in the filer explorer but it wont let me copy anything there saying it is write protected.
2. The Orange PAYG cab installed all looked ok and gave me the option to install to the Ext ROM, but when I look there, the cab is not there.
Am I missing a trick here, I have read through the posts and it looks like im doing the right things.
depends on your ROM. only OLD roms allow writing to extended_rom. The newer ones don't.
iv got 25 XDA Minis to "setup"
i would love to get 2.x ROM installed (for push) but i see there maybe problems when trying to modify the EXT_ROM...
is there any solutions to it yet? how could i create a Custom Ext_ROM (we have quite a bit of stuff that needs installed such as .netcf 2.0, SDF2.0, SQLCE etc) when using a 2.x rom...?
am i better just leaving the standard rom (1.5.4.2) for the moment untill an Official O2 2.x rom comes out?

How to Downgrade Your Wizard (STEP BY STEP) Instruction

Hey Guys....
I am still working on this DIY but this is how I was able to accomplish reverting back to my OEM Cingular 8125 state.
If someone could plase let me know how to replace the very first SPLASH Screen from "HTC" to CINGULAR, I would greatly appreciate it.
By following the steps below, you will have almost everything back to its original state.
Be sure to download all the necessary ROM files: OS ROM, Radio ROM, splash.bin
Place your OS ROM and Radio ROM inside the c:\sWizard\ROM folder.
DOWNGRADE YOUR OS AND RADIO ROM
1. Download aWizard 1.3b Beta Version (Attached File or Latest Version) from the following link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37386&highlight=awizard
2. Unzip the folder to your root directory (C:\aWizard or D:\aWizard). You need to avoid having spaces your directory name. This is the reason placing folder in the root.
3. Make sure you have an active connection via Active Sync.
4. Run the aWizard.cmd file from C:\aWizard
5. Run "e" command FIRST !
6. Run "u" command. Your Wizard will reboot.
7. Run "w" command to update your ROM. You will get a prompt to choose your ROM. If you did not place a valid ROM inside the ROM folder, then you wont see it from this list. Also, if you placed your aWizard in other directory with spaces (i.e C:\ MY DOCUMENT) then you wont see it either. Just let it run. It will take close to 20 minutes. At the end, it will as you to hard reset.
8. Run "r" command to update your Radio ROM. Same as Step 7.
Replacing Splash Screen (Back to Cingular)
1. Place the splash.bin file inside the c:\aWizard\lib
2. Open up CMD and navigate to c:\aWizard\lib
3. Type in the following command "pdocwrite.exe -n 1 splash.bin 0x002d0000"
pdocwrite.exe = this program is located inside the LIB folder
splash.bin is a file that I converted.
4. Once completed, please reset your Wizard and now you will have Cingular's Splash (2nd Splash)
Updating the EXT ROM
1. I did this manually by utilizing Active Sync to copy over all the Cingular ROMs to the Wizard and running it individually.
2. Reset and you will now have all the programs Wizard came with.
FAQ
Q. My Wizard is stuck on a splash screen and it wont do anything.
1. Hard reset your Wizard
2. Hold onto Camera Button while turning on the Wizard and you will get the boot screen.
3. Plug in your USB Cable
4. Run one of the known ROM files with .exe extention. When this happened to me while downgrading,
I had to reload the latest iMate ROM.
5. Start the downgrade process again by following the above instruction.
reverting back to original cingular rom
Thank you for this.
Don't you have to REINSTALL original Cingular Rom or does this do that by removing imate updated ROM?

When you install Cingular ROM, it will remove/overwrite the existing iMate ROM.
Be sure to place your ROM files in the the ROM folder.
If your running the aku2 imate rom, many people will have problems running awizard or lokiwiz to unlock the CID, I had to run the tmo uk rom update (.exe one) which replaced the imate, and then restore the rom files I had backed up for cingular, although the extended rom is still locked, thats annoying.

can you please share how you change the very first splash screen on your 8125 ? its the only thing i wasnt able to do or know how to do.
thanks
FarSeide, I'm pretty sure that even the stock 8125's from Cingular showed the HTC screen first, the cingular screen second, and finally the Windows Mobile screen. If that's the case, then your 8125 is as good as new as far as Cingular is concerned.
Also, if anyone upgraded to the AKU2 I-mate ROM, you cannot do the process you described, because (as someone else mentioned) the lokiwiz program will not work. What you need to do is FIRST install a different ROM using an exe file (a good example would be the leaked AKU2 Q-Tek ROM exe file), and only after that entire upgrade process is completed, can you now use lokiwiz to unlock the SuperCID and install the Cingular ROM.

Eli,
thank you for the info. I wanted to put this together because when I tired to do this, there were information but scattered all over all forums. just wanted to help others so that they dont go through the same thing i did.
i was following these instructions and i got a
NOTIFICATION ERROR
cannot execute repllog.exe
so what i had to do was hard reset, boot screen , re-installed imate, ...
i guess i will try it again, what do you guys think
hmmm... sorry to say but my 8125 only ever showed the cingular splash. No HTC, no WinMob. I had assumed that Cingular somehow replaced all 3 splash screen with theirs.... In fact, I never even knew there was more than one splash screen until I upgraded to the Qtek rom.
I'm in trouble
I tried to downgrade the ROM and now I'm hung in the i-Mate SPLASH SCREEN. I tried the hard reset and it hangs every time. I can't get a connection through active sync obviously so what are my options. How can I get a working device.
I'm freaking out.
Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

relax... i was exactly where you were...
first, hard reset your device.
Hold the Com Manager, Voice Command and press the soft reset with your stylus.
before you turn the device back on, hold the camera button then turn on the power. you will receive the boot screen. Plug in your USB Cable and kick off the EXE file. Load one of the known ROMS like the iMate ROM.
reload and try again. I am willing to bet that you disconnected the USB Cable while updating to Cingular ROM.
Good luck and dont worry.
does anyone have the exe for the original Cingular ROM ?
my colleague tried to update his 8125 with my imate rom.....and did not unlock it first.
all he has is the bootloader now, the update gives the well known Error: Invalid Vender ID
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks !!
Get a copy of the proper ROM on a SD card, and reload it that way.
This is the easiest way out of that box......
Thanks,
but how to get the Rom reloaded from the SD card onto the device using the bootloader ?

THAT part is easy.
Note that the SD card image is NOT a file. You have to raw write it onto the card, which will destroy the filesystem - so back up the card first! psdwrite will do the job. You also need the image (PREVIOUSLY copied from a SD-made backup with "psdREAD")
To restore it, insert the card, hold the CAMERA button, and power on. The phone will tell you to press VOICE to restore the SD image (it looks to see if there's a valid one in there)
Note that with 1.x bootloaders this will happen with the BACKLIGHT OFF, and you only have 3 seconds or so to press the key - so have a flashlight handy. 2.x bootloaders turn the backlight ON.
Hit VOICE. The image will be verified (checksummed) and if it is good, it will be loaded.
That's it. Takes about 2-3 minutes. When it finishes it will tell you to press any key, and when you do you'll end up at the tricolor screen.
Power off and back on, and the phone will cold boot the new image.
This will work even if you can't run an RUU loader, so long as you can get that first prompt up. It is a VERY effective rescue method.
IMHO before you hack on the firmware in these things you should make an SD card backup just for this reason.
Which tools is best option for ROM backup to Mini SD?
Hi,
Just read your message about writing ROM to Mini SD card.
I'd like to do just that.
I want one or two ROM's for safekeeping stored somewhere instead only a backup or official copy on my pc.
As i've read restoring from SD is safer and faster..
I don't intend to use the SD card for anything more than just that.
In the Prodigy Service Manual (Prodigy Service Manual -XA(0813-2005).pdf) HTC uses mtty.exe. There are also instructions in the PDF.
Since HTC uses this, it should do exactly what i want, i guess?
Or is there a better tool?
Thanks,
Allegro.
P.S: Will a restored ROM from Mini-SD look fresh to HTC?
Or will they see it's a self restored copy instead of a official HTC restore?
Will it reset "everything"?
I was able to fully restore CIngular 8125 ROM, EXTROM, All Splash Images using the SD Restore.
100 Cingular OEM Spec has been restored...

The ipl, spl, radio and os all come from the qtek 2.17 rom. The htc logo and splash come from the t-mobile usa rom. The extended rom is my own creation. There is no offical 2.17 rom for t-mobile, they are rather slow at these things.
For what it's worth, I was just trying to download these files, and when the download completed, I ran it and got a corrupted file error. I look at the FTP server again, and the file have disappeared! Someone is deleting the files, it appears.
I've hosted the files here:
http://www.joystig.com/wizard.htm
Does this have the new Comm Manager that came with TMO?
Sounds great... What is NOT in this that was in the stock ROM load? How far off will it be from the T-Mobile version that shipped with the MDA?
Also - any comparisons in terms of:
- amount of storage the two versions take?
- program memory/storage? (never enough!)
- speed / performance
TIA...
ahhh, I flashed one of my two devices (my wife's) Qtek 9100 and now it just boots and reboots over and over. Ok, without being able to establish an activesync connection, how do I flash it back? My phone is running the Qtek 9100 AKU2 release just fine. I should have just done the same to hers.

Not sure where to find it...but I've read a few posts that, as I recall, tell you how to get into the boot loader of the MDA, and proceed to reload the firmware from there. I'd do some searching around here - I suspect you'll find somebody (or an older post) that can help you get the toasted MDA back up to snuff...
The Newer ROM is up and working great so far...
The Original T-Mobile ROM seems to be corrupted and not available on the different links provided.
bootloader: hold the camera or recorder button in while resetting... then run an RUU. I had to run through many old incarnations and slowly update the device. I won't be trying a custom rom again.

You got it working though?
I understand the feeling... much as I'd like to try a newer ROM, I'm thinking that I'll probably wait a bit to see if T-Mobile comes out with an official release soon. Maybe it's silly of me...but I'd rather be in a position where they'll still fix or replace the phone if their own firmware load messes up my MDA. I've done a bunch of firmware updates to various devices over the years, and still find that I hold my breath while doing it. Don't need any extra problems just now, and my MDA is working really nicely for the moment, even loaded up with Wisbar Advance, PocketBreeze, ContactBreeze, iLauncher and some nice skins. I'd like some more memory, but the whole thing seems stable throughout the day, and responsive...so I think I'll leave well enough along for now!

Yes, thank goodness... but the phone is without some important things. Of course, like me, her phone was/is using push email, so she gets the most critical stuff back immediately, but custom app settings, etc are gone. I did have a recent SPB Backup... and all restores ok except for System Data. When restoring that part, the system will freeze and restart and then I have to hard reset. I wish I could do a more finely tuned custom restore and narrow down the troublesome part of the restore. Oh well, now to reinstall all of the apps that were on here.
I just flash this rom and everything seems fine but when I try to connect to the edge network, it won't connect. I have the 29.99 plan. How do I fix this problem?

Can u give us a feedback on such things as:
Are the alternate symbols working, i.e. umlaute like ä,ö,ü with on click, or do u still have to hit the navkey three times down to choose them?
What kind of branding does this rom offer? A1 or Vodafone splashscreen for powering on and off the phone? Any waste of storage, like program links known from the att rom?
I am really looking forward reeding u'r experiences.
The only branding in this Rom is the Vodafone logo at startup and shutdown. No additional crap and apps like in the AT&T one.To get rid of the Vodafone logo you could make the Treo vanilla by deleting the extrom as described in other threads here.To get the Umlauts just press the alt key.
After the vanilla procedure
CC-Cap : 000-000-001
Carrier DB: 251
Free memory
Data: 54.65 MB
Programs: 28.53 MB
Firmware and OS-build are the same as in the English Vodafone-Version.
The Software-Version remains unchanged.
Well, I cannot update. When I start the original Update I'll get the error, that the update isn't for my device. I have a REGULAR Treo 750 not the Vodafone branded one. So I know it's not the "right" one. Where do I get a patched RUU.exe or something?
I expanded the Updater .exe-File and started the T750URT.exe and he Flashed a ROM, and as there's only one, namely CHEEIMG_FW.nbh I thought I would have WM 6 on it, but I didn't.
So can it be, that I have to unlock my device? Or is it an other problem?
To upgrade you can use the SD-card method described in this forum.
Or try this one:
- start the updater, stop at the first screen
- look at your temp directory, there is a new folder created
- edit the file "payloads.xml", in the section "carrier codes" replace the 3 letters with the letters you see on your treos system info
- go on with the updater (start update)
good luck
calico
have you tried to take the way with the Flashcard?
rename the Cheeimg_fw.nbh to cheeimg.nbh
format the SD-Card, copy file on it, reset while pressing the button below the volume-control and wait
A 750v (what you'll get - Imho) is not able to pull the Mailboxnumber from your Sim (if it's not a VF one) and it is not editable.
Can you imagine to make an Image of your original 750? Because it's german.

SIM Unlock help...

Hi all,
I had an O2 XDA Stellar which I believe is the HTC TYTN II. However, this phone was stolen a couple of weeks back. I purchased a second hand one today which is sim locked to the orange network. I managed to break the lock by following the instructions on this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835. I followed the instructions word for word till step 5.
The problem is now though it accepts the SIM and I can dial out, I don't have any audio on the calls So I can call and my phone also rings when I receive a call but I can't hear the caller nor can I be heard at the other end
Also, I hate the orange rom (and I used to complain about the O2 rom) and I wish to use the default HTC WM 6.1 professional upgrade the problem again is that it asks for a serial number and my serial number starts with DCOxxxxxxxxxxx and it says that this is not a valid serial number
What do I do now? Has my phone become a brick Please do help I can't bear the thought of having one stolen and the other toasted by me
All help will be greatly appreciated

Did you actually read anything or did you just start hacking away ? I will cut and paste a few items out of that thread, so that you don't have to actually read it .
PLEASE READ THE *FAQ* BEFORE FLASHING OR ASKING QUESTIONS!!!
* IF YOU DONT NEED TO FLASH A NEW ROM THEN PROCEED TO STEP 6 TO PUT YOUR DESIRED RADIO BACK*
7. After I flash a Rom I dont have any sound in calls and the camera is black
The Radio has to match the version of Rom you flash i.e. WM6.1, an incorrect Radio will give sound and camera problems. Read The Ultimate Radio Thread to find a Radio that matches the Rom there are lots to try on there if one doesnt work then try another.
3. What are the different types of Unlock?[/B] (answer by DaveShaw)
The three stages of unlock are:
SIM: Allows you to use SIM's from another carrier. Can be done using codes or unlocker programs on xda-devs.
Security: Allows you to flash radios from another device - It does other stuff, but this is all the casual user will use it for
CID: CID unlocking is an old concept, nowadays you flash HardSPL instead. This lets you flash any ROM, Splash or Radio (depending on sec unlock) to your device. N.B. the CID is the carrier ID (e.g. HTC__001). The stock SPL's only let you flash ROM's that match the CID in the ROM image with the CID on your device.
Obviously you did not unlock your phone if a serial number is needed to flash a new rom. I would re read everything and do it again
Thanks for the reply

As you can see I'm a bit of a newbie here, so wasn't too sure if I did need to flash to a new rom. But I did anyway. And the call problems still remain

I've been through this link as well and I was contemplating installing the latest version of the HTC WM6.1 ROMS (version 3.34.721.2, radio version 1.70.19.09) available at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_ROMs However I was not sure if this would be ok and (at the risk of sounding extremely dumb) I was not sure what WWE stood for

I maintained the default that was given by the unlocker for the CID (I think all zeros). Do I have to change this as per the ROM image? I don't mind re-doing this again it's a relief that my device isn't busted
No your phone isn't busted. Go into bootloader and check what it says next to spl, if you followed Mark's steps, it should say 3.29 Hard. If that is what it says ,then you can flash any Kaiser rom you want. If it doesn't then start over again.
WWE stands for World Wide English and those roms are all in English. That rom you picked will be fine, if you do not wish to explore the fine world of custom roms ? Maybe later.
You only have to CID unlock once by following the steps, not at every rom flash.
No sound means wrong radio, 6.0 roms need 6.0 radios and 6.1 roms need 6.1 radios. If the rom has a radio in it already then flash away.
Thanks Denco Flashed the ones I mentioned and it works perfect. Can't believe I actually have a working device Thanks for all your help, really great.
Now to sync my data to my new (second hand) htc and I'm good to go
Another question, the device works fine, however since it is a HK rom, it seems to have localised to HK. I've changed this as much as possible to UK. However, I'm wondering if this will affect anything else? For example the gps? Is there any quicker way to configure this globally so all settings use UK instead of HK?
Why didn't you flash the latest UK ROM.
Use this code: HT750GB02264 to download from HTC's site.

Once you are unlocked and HardSpl'd you can flash any rom you want. Pick a UK one another WWE rom or a custom rom. Test a bunch until you have one you like. Your only restriction is it has to be a Kaiser rom. And with all the Kaiser roms available, it is not a restriction at all.

Wow, thanks for that, I was looking for a valid serial through which I can download from the htc uk site One question I had is do I install the radio which I download from htc? Or do I keep the one I have already flashed? The one I have flashed yesterday seems to be a later version than what I've downloaded from htc

1. I keep hearing on this forum about Hard SPL, I'm not sure what this is used for or why it is required but I followed the instructions and it seems I had installed JumpSPL1.56-KAIS.exe. Now, since then I had flashed the rom, so do I need to reinstall this again? Is there some other one I should be using? I come across different versions on some threads. Also, how can I check the version of HardSPL I have?
2. When I view the memory (under settings) it shows me Storage and Program. However, I can't seem to see any storage area in file explorer. I know in my old xda 2i, there used to be a separate storage area. The reason is because some of the apps I install are quite bulky for example lexisgoo english dictionary (the dictionary files themselves are about 18mb) and this fills up the main memory. How can I install this in the storage memory? (not storage card since I sometimes swap storage cards)
Sorry lot of questions I know, but I'm a newbie and all help will be greatly appreciated
The UK downloaded ROM will install the radio too.
I would do a bit of testing with your current set-up, then flash the UK ROM.
Test the new UK ROM & radio & then reflash the radio only if you want (do some searching on Radio versions)
Newer versions are not always best, chasing the latest builds normally bites you in the ass at the end of the day.
Check HardSPL by going into bootloader:
* Using a stylus, press and hold the soft reset button at the bottom of the phone along with the camera button
* Release both buttons once the bootloader screen appears
* Exit bootloader by pressing soft reset button
Once you have installed HardSPL thats it, job done (you installed it during unlocking)
What you see in file explorer regarding storage is correct: 128MB RAM for running software ect & 256MB ROM for storing your programs ect (WM2003SE was different)
ROM can be increased by using one of the cooked lite ROMs if storage space is a concern.

Will do, the HK version seems very stable, the only thing that bothers me is the region settings. Anyway, I think I'll give the UK Rom a go and if that works well I'll stick with it

KAIS130
SPL-3.2.9.Hard
CPLD-8

TBH, I don't know what any of that means But do you think the version I have is ok, or do I need to upgrade this to some other version?

I've attached a screenshot of my memory screen. The bit that puzzles me is that the storage area apparently has a lot more storage but I do not have an option to install all my applications on that area or atleast the bulky ones. I don't think I need a lite one since I do have 112MB free in the storage area which is more than sufficient for all the apps I usually install. Can you advise how I can install apps to the storage area as well?
Lastly, I was wondering if it is possible for me install my apps on the rom and then kind of take an image of my setup and flash the rom with this setup. That way when I do a hard reset, all my apps are installed again. Which will save me the trouble I know sprite backup does something like this but I'd prefer if it was in the rom
Thanks for all your help, it has given me a lot of confidence in these matters. Something I probably wouldn't have attempted

I agree 101% and it appears fewer resources are put into ironing out bugs in the WM 6.1 ROMs than the WM 6.0 ones. I replied to fmervin's post in the ROM forums along these lines.
If all is running OK I would stick with your current HardSPL.
When installing your applications choose the option of installing to "Device"
You could install all your apps into a ROM, this would be cooking a ROM & is a complex process.
I would suggest a backup via Sprite or SPB. I use SPB v2.0 build3065 & it works well for me, preference of backup software is a bit of a Marmite scenario, you either love it or hate it.

You can't do that, it is flash memory. It's not like you can partition the hard drive.
But this is the easiest way to get your Apps and settings back after a flash.
Try this Sashimi Auto installer by a former XDA member. It is a nice little program that installs all your apps after a flash

Hey Denco..Than'x for considering my thread & giving out suggestion towards the link to check the info. But i m really nt that techy afterall so i can burn a ROM on my Tytn II. Even though i tried to burn a RUU rom that supports TyTN II ..Its just gets disconnected from USB mode..So i was looking forward to start it initially with some comparatively easier to install .cab files..Can't these RUU files be transformed into .cab files or maybe some other version of Manila 3D cab file that is completely fixed...I seriously have done a lot of research upon this but nothing looks like working. So please if you have some links to .cab files that can give a better & different look to my Kaiser running Windows 6.1...It'l be a great help !!
Than'x & regards in advance

I think you need to decide what it is that you want to accomplish. Unless you cook your own rom, there is no way to add apps to the rom ( so that they will remain after a hard reset) Your rom is wyour phone's base operating system, it contains your OS (WM 6.1 ) and can only be replaced after completely erasing and replacing all files from the previous rom.
If it is a new rom you want, pick a rom that interests you and follow these instructions verbatim .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835
Your phone will go to the bootloader screen ( three color) and it will disconnect from usb during the process, but be patient until the end. When it says it takes ten minutes, it takes ten minutes. Leave the room if you have to , to keep from getting impatient.
If you just want to keep your OEM WM 6.1 and keep it simple, but change the look of your phone try this,
http://www.htcwiki.com/page/Manila+2D+and+M2D+Themes
This will change the look and feel of your phone with uninstallable .cab files and will not affect the rom or brick your phone by accident.
