Problem receiving MMS (yes, I have data plan) - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For a while now, I have been getting the notifications that I have an MMS message received. But when I go to retrieve it (through the notification dropdown) it just takes me to my messaging and it shows nothing new. Doesn't even show me who the message was from so I can maybe let them know I didn't get it.
Anyone else had this problem before or know how to fix it?
No one has approached me saying "hey, did u get my pic message" so it probably was just joke stuff that dint really matter, but it's still annoying not knowing what was sent. It's like the message just disappeared or something.
I remember it working just fine before rooting my phone 2 months ago.
I am currently running SuperD 1.93 but it has been happening since I first rooted, in which my first rom was CM 4.12.xxx
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Well, isn't a fix, but have you sat down with a friend and got them to text you to make sure? You might just be getting the random notification, but no actual text. I know if this was happening to me I would rather get a random notification rather than actually missing out on a text. Also, it would be nice to know which way to address this issue.

Have you tried Setting>Applications(sort all)>Messaging>Clear data?

I had a friend text me "im about to send u a picture" and got the notification, but the pic never appeared so I do not believe it is a false notice. It doesnt happen often either.

I've never tried that, but I will now. But I have wiped and reflashed my roms plenty of times, wouldn't that clear all the data anyway?
Last time I wiped and reflashed was less than a week ago...

I would guess it would, who knows, I had a ghost Gmail for weeks...

Ok so clearing the message data did not help. I sat next to a friend trying to send me a pic and it would show "Unknown: MMS Received"....I'm so lost as to what to do

bumping this as I've tried lots of things, and get this error myself too. I can at least send picture messages again, but I still can't receive.

Have you called t-mobile? I had the same problem and I tried everything. Decided to give them a call just as a last option and it was on there end.
And since you just rooted and it's happened only since you rooted I would go over everything you did.

Really odd G1 messaging problem. Help?

Hello all. I made this topic because my one friend and I have had a strange messaging problem the last couple of days.
Now, we both have rooted G1's and flashed Micro Hero for the Hard SPL on our phones. We've been using this ROM for about a month without any flaws for the whole time, but now our messaging keeps acting up. What keeps happening is when we go into our messaging app, the messages we send all get sent to the bottom, and the messages received from others all get sent to the top. That, and all the time stamps don't usually have times but just say "Yesterday". The fix I used that worked was re-flashing the ROM, but for all of those who flash ROMs a lot, you probably know how much of a pain it is to set up your phone again after re-flashing. There has to be some other alternative to this. And yes, I've tried using different messaging up but it did the same thing.
So has anyone else had this problem, or it it possibly T-Mobile and not us? Or could it possibly be that we have too many messages at once? I only had about 140 messages when this started happening, and than about 20 the second time it happened, so I really doubt it's that. I just don't see why it would start happening now all of a sudden and not right away.
It sounds like a problem on T-Mobile's and time-stamping the messages causing things to go to weird locations because they are trying to sort the messages by time. But if you can fix it by reflashing, then would download Backup for Root Users and use that everytime you need to re-flash. Good luck.

Thanks, and I'll try that as I'm downloading Backup for Root Users now. I just hope I don't I find a fix besides re-flashing though because I'm having to re-flash once a day at this point. It's really annoying.

**Please Help, phone resending texts on its own!

Hi guys,
I have a major problem with my phone, I thought this was down to a certain ROM I was using but it happens no matter what I use.
Currently Im on Cyans latest, my phone keeps resending old text messages, the last one was at 6.30 this morning and it resent 2 texts that I sent yesterday. I dont get any notification this is happening and I have no idea why either.
As far as I know it has only started happening in the last 2 weeks, I have flashed countless different ROMs over the last 6 months so im pretty sure it's not because I have screwed something up in the process, could this possibly be a hardware issue as this happens accross many different roms, cyans, kings hero, mligns...
We seem to be able to fix anything, so does anybody have any ideas at all? I am really reluctant to unroot and try sending back to T-Mo for repair.
Thanks in advance for your help.
bump.......
Do you have it checked so you get delivery reports?
This happens to me sometimes. The message gets sent, but on the delivery report, it still shows pending. A few hours later, the message gets sent again, because as far as the phone knows, it is still pending. This usually happens when I restart my phone or something.
Usually, when it's pending, the message never gets sent, and it tells me the delivery failed. On occasion though, the same thing happens to me as well.
My suggestion is to turn on your delivery reports if you do not already, and monitor them and see if that is what is happening.
As for a solution, I just dealt with it because it doesn't happen often enough for it to bother me or the person that gets it twice. I did however see that if i reformat my sd card before every flash, especially if coming from a different rom, this does not happen. I am currently running Cyanogen's 4.2.5
Yeah, but mine sent a bunch more. I had delivery reports on, too. I just deleted the thread as soon as I was made aware (I have SMS backup and had just flashed to 4.2.5).
I'm back on 4.2.3.1 and reinstalled Handcent. I haven't had the problem since. There was an awful lot of very distressed discussion about 4.2.5 for everyone to ba accepting it as completely stable. Yes, it seems like it works for a lot of people, but it really, really doesn't work for enough folks. I"m not risking it.
Thanks for your input guys.

Missing text messages?

I have had my G1 since about a month after it has come out and I have never had any problems with missing text messages. I'm a heavy texter so they are important to me. I rooted my phone a while after I got it and still never had any problems, but recently I have been have problems with getting and receiving them. I have gone through many roms from hero's to cyanogen to others without problems. But they have started about a month or two ago. I currently have Cloverdale's Blue_Haze-Eclair_2.1-v1.7 with Haykuro's special spl. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it?
Is the problem intermittent, or do you miss your texts 100% of the time?
Do you have access to ADB so you can get a log of what's happening when you get a text?
I once couldn't receive texts because I switched from a Hero-based ROM back to a standard ROM, and the data format of the Messaging app is different. The phone would get the message, but the Messaging app would crash before saving it due to the error and I didn't have a clue until I looked at the log, so that's one possibility.
Well the problem is intermittent. I get them most of the times but there are a lot of times when I don't get them. I don't have access to ADB. Is it difficult to do that? That is an interesting perspective though. I have never thought about it that way.
i had this problem and then i had a problem where i would get the text notification and when i go to open it its like it disappears and the new text isn't there. i've had friends tell me they texted me a few times and i never got anything, i was running CM's rom and a few weeks ago i switched to super D and have not had any problems with texts whatsoever. i'm not sure if it's a rom thing or what but its weird and i racked my brain trying to figure why its happening and how to fix it. id suggest maybe using super d's rom for a few days and see if it solves anything but i swear ever since i switched i've been getting and sending all my texts
Yeahh I have had the disappearing texts problem also. So do you really think if I switch to super d that the problem will be fixed?
And also do you think you can post the link the super D page so that I can check it out? Is it updated regularly though because I also rely heavily on updated roms.
I had that problem with other Hero ROM's. It solved when I flashed the latest MghtyMax ROM. Also install Handcent SMS then go to settings and activate the "Autoretrieve", "Show pop-up" and "Self check" options.

[Q] Not receiving MMS

So my wife and I both got Thrills the day they were released. Only a couple weeks after getting them my wife started having trouble receiving MMS's. Even with the "auto-download" setting enabled MMS's stopped auto-downloading and if she pushed download it would just say "downloading" and never download until she rebooted her phone. Mine was working fine so I didn't pay too much attention. I kinda figured it was cause she messages a hell of a lot more than me and it might be a glitch there. One day I started having the same problem so I assumed I had reached the number of MMSs that she had when she started having the problem. So I deleted all my text messages in the messaging app. So she sends me an MMS today and same thing, didn't auto-download, won't download when I click the button. I refuse to reboot my phone for everything. Anyone else having this problem? Know whats going on? Have a fix that doesn't require root or a new rom?

Had the same issue when I got my Thrill, I had to edit a setting. I forget what it was.....another thing that's stopped my MMS is having a **** load of Message in my inbox that aren't deleted.
Go t settings and set up auto delete, clear cache, & change what you please, after that report back in a day
Sent from my LG-P925 using Tapatalk
Clear cache? In message settings? I actually deleted all my texts and still have this problem. I never set up auto delete on mine but I did my wife's. Either way it still happened to both of us. This "clear cache" sounds like a winner. I wonder if the pics get downloaded but just don't show up in the app. The next time it happens I'm gonna search the folder with ES and see if it's there.

Text messaging problem

Hey guys, so today I decided to backup my texts and once I did that I started to delete messages from my phone (as I normally do without any problems). I know it can take literally forever for just one convo to delete especially if you have over TONS of messages, so i waited and waited for the 'deleting messages' box to disappear.
I left my phone doing it's thing whilst ocassiaonlly using the phone at the same time, obviously I didn't do anything in texts, but when I went back on messaging I noticed it was gone, so I tapped on messaging again only to find the 'opening conversation' to appear and its been stuck like that for ages, therefore I cannot access any of my texts yet..
Any advice on what to do? Is it really still opening conversations? (it's been about 15mins probably!) and I have no idea if it deleted one of my convo's fully.. Is it safe to turn the phone off & then back on perhaps? I don't want to risk losing anything...
Hope it all makes sense. Thanks!
EDIT: nevermind sorry, it literally just stopped with the opening conversation message and back up. My convo I tried to delete is still there though, so will try again and not touch anything this time! Sorry, please remove this thread if you wish!

Appreciate the response, but I thought I would ask to see if other people had the same experience and therefore can share the right way forward?

Oh my days, it's now probably been about 2 hours since I started deleting and its STILL doing it - is it supposed to take THIS long?
I had my phone showing messages from another conversation/recipient a few days ago. In this case, all alerts from my train operator about delays were showing as being sent from my wife.
Killing the task and reloading messaging seemed to fix it, but it now has me worried that such problems might one day see me getting corruption errors, although I don't really have any texts I couldn't afford to lose.
