Update all apps at once possible? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

IS it possible to update all apps at once on the N1? I've looked but can't find a way. maually updating each app is somewhat annoying.

No, if updating apps from the market.

And seriously, this is something that needs fixed. It can be quite annoying trying to update 15 applications one by one at work (I work for T-Mobile)
However, on my N1, I flash it so often that I seldom see an update available for an app.

I am the same. I use atrackdog to search for updates.

Atrackdog is by far the best app for this...

Is there a way to batch update apps?

I sometimes get notified that multiple apps have updates. Is it possible to batch update apps? ASTRO allows you to batch select apps for backup but not for update (unless I am missing something).
I would absolutely love this feature as well. When the OTA 1.1 update came out with update notification, I was hoping the dev for aTrack Dog would add this type of function to his software.
However... If someone did develop this type of software, I would be wary of using it after the issue with the Dev for PowerManager using bait-and-switch tactics to change his software from free, unlimited use, to a 3-day trial. I would hate to have my apps suddenly stop working because they're now trial software, or because of a bug that presented itself in a recent update which I might have read about in the comments when updating manually.
Of course the best way to add this feature is the way ASTRO app backup works. You click on each app or click the checkbox for all apps. To bad it only backups the apps.

App Update app needed

I remember there was a good app that did the updating to all your apps - rather then having to do them manually one at a time. But I can't remember what it was called and can't find it...
Can anyone tell me what it is plz.
a track dog?
i think "my market" claims to do automatic updates, i think it didn't work for me. didn't like the app anyway, so i didn't extensively test it.
I don't think there is an app that does this?
I use atrackdog which obviously lets you know of updates when they're out.
It's still useful if you install apps from the SD as the Market won't realise these are installed.
I have ssked the developers if they could add an option to set scheduled updates.

Can't find some apps in the Market

I've read about some interesting apps, but I can't find them in the Android Market for some reason. A few people claim that these applications are available in the Market, but they just don't show up for me.
Some examples:
- ShareYourBoard
- BioWallet
- Pandora
- iSkoot
- beebPlayer
- Bluex
- Ecorio
- cab4me
- DoggCatcher
I've even tried to scan some QR codes in AndroLib.com, but I get an error saying that "There are no matches in Android Market for the search."
Does anyone know why that happens? I should mention that I live in Brazil (not sure this makes a difference) and that I use MoDaCo Custom ROM 2.9. Besides, the option "Unknown sources" is checked in my phone.
Thanks for the help,
Tiago
are the apps officially available in your country? did you try market enabler?
Some apps are not supported in all countries.
Example: BeebPlayer (stream bbc shows) is only available in the UK.
I Downloaded Beebplayer from an apps pack, it told me it was only available for people inside the UK.
Also if you search for some apps, like Beebplayer the marketplace app shows something like "1 result found" but shows nothing except for the usual "did you type the name correctly blabla."
Hope this helps,, I experienced the same thing, it gets really annoying but nothing you can do. maybe work with a proxy or something but since I'm not a developer I can't help you with that.

DaanJordaan
Have you applied the MR update? This update has caused some apps to not show up in the market.
I used Market Enabler and it worked only 1 time. When I rebooted my phone then I had to reapply the "patch" from Market Enablen and when I got to the market nothing worked like it should.
I mean that Market Enabler didn't worked the second time I tried to fake my market.
Yeah, us Sprint folks are totally ****ed. THe new update, as awesome as it is, makes it so we can't see stuff like twidroid pro.

you are not alone
kendong2,
Market Enabler helped a lot! Using the setting for T-Mobile, I was able to find the following apps: Pandora, iSkoot, Bluex, cab4me and DoggCatcher. Pandora doesn't work in Brazil, but that's a different problem. Restarting the phone restores the old settings, but I can always use Market Enabler again.
However, I still can't find ShareYourBoard, BioWallet, beebPlayer, Ecorio and AndNav2. According to DaanJordaan, beebPlayer will not work in Brazil, but I'd still like to install the other apps. Has anyone managed to install these apps? Any tips?
I'm not sure I have the MR update. As I said, I installed MoDaCo Custom ROM 2.9 and didn't apply any other updates after that.
Thanks a lot,
Tiago

Has anyone found a solution to this yet?
The market is impressive but I would ( I know I'm not alone here ) love to have access the whole market.
I have a rooted sprint hero, stock ROM with the update.
Same issue here too.
Any of the big name stuff like shopsavvey, compare everywhere, facebook amazon and the rest is not showing.
Hello i have the same problem with modaco 3.0. "MR" update is that short for modaco ROM ? And people using market enabler should remember to clear market cache under settings - applications - market

aTrackDog questions

First, yes I read the FAQ's before posting. There are several apps that aTD says have updates available, but the Market does not list the newer versions. I know the FAQ says to e-mail the developer, but I guess my question is why are updates available that are not published in the Market? It's not that the app is not in the Market at all...it's there and has had updates in the past. Only now apparently a new version is available that is not listed in the Market. I've e-mailed several app developers and will post here if I get an explanation.
Also, one of the apps aTD says needs to be updated is the Market itself. I have version 1.66, and it says 1.71 is the latest version. Can I download that from Google somehow, or is the Market version a built-in part of the ROM?
atrackdog relies on updates from phones with atrackdog installed. Say I'm developing a cool, new app. I release version 1.0 on the market for everyone to use. I'm testing version 1.1 on my phone and have given the apk file to a few friends to test for me as well before I release it to the market in general (I don't want a thousand e-mails from people saying my app is br0x0rz, so I have a small test group locally.) If one of my testers has atrackdog installed, it will faithfully upload the new version information to atrackdog's servers, telling all other atrackdog users that my app has an update available...whether it's in the market or not.
Thanks for the detailed explanation! Now why the aTrackDog website couldn't explain it that concisely, I don't know.
Does that same scenario also apply to the Market? It seems less likely to me that a Google app would be on tester's phones that also have aTD installed.

Ah, ok. That makes perfect sense then. Thanks for the explanation.
About the market itself, I'm going to guess that different Android devices might have different versions of the market on board. If Google tweaked the market to be Moto-droid-worthy, they might have used a different number and atrackdog will show it. I'm sure about my answer in the above post. I'm just guessing on this one.

That also makes sense. I suppose the Nexus (for example) would likely have a newer version of Market and that would be why aTD picks up on it.
After using it for a few days, I don't really see the usefulness of aTD from a practicality standpoint. Every app on my phone that aTD says has an update available, isn't really available on my device (except for SlideME, which is unimportant to me). It would be more useful if the app detected the user's device, and only showed updates applicable to that particular phone.
That's true. When atrackdog was released, the market app didn't give notifications when updates were available. Also, at the time, there wasn't much on the market itself, several 3rd party markets (like slideme) were also out there, and people outside the US didn't have market access anyway. It filled a gap that's largely not there anymore (for US users). I know several countries still either don't have market access or no access to paid apps from the market, so it may be very useful to them.
It's useful for a few apps which post their betas on google code, etc, such as Wireless Tether...

[Q] After travel to China, Market fails to show downloaded apps

Hi,
So I recently traveled out of the US to China for vacation, and when I was there I decided to check/download some updates for my Downloaded apps in the Android Market. Notably I could not see the Android Market Front Page when connected in China (must be Google block?), however I could see which of my apps had updates.
However, I'm back in the US now and when I go into the Market to update my apps, none of the downloaded apps are showing. I tried using Appbrain to update them, but that failed as well, and now the only apps that show up in my Market are the ones Appbrain listed as having updates. I tried using an app like Market History Delete but that didn't work either.
I figure it must be some Market sync issue or something, but is there anything that can be done short of doing a complete factory wipe? Thanks.
My wife and I came back from a 6 month stay in China last year. I had a similar issue. I think I has to go under manage applications, filer for "All", and force stop the app then uninstall updates. I then rebooted the phone and it worked for me. My wifes phone had the same problem but my solution did not work for hers. So I dont want to say it will work for you, but its did for me. I'm afraid I dont know what else to tell you. Let me know if it works for you.
