Backwards haret - Touch CDMA Android Development

so i flashed my phone with myns warm donut and i must say i love it and android on the vogue has come a long way since i started using it.
but i have seen other people having this problem too, after activating the vogue they werent able to iota so they could get internet working on sprint, so my question is, is it possible for somebody to make a haret version that would book into windows mobile so people could program and activate their phones then just reboot back to android

just flash back. use windows. flash back to android. you can back up your data using replimenu (install menu). we still have things to perfect on android, I seriously doubt any devs would put their time into this.

Yeah, their time would probably be better spent developing / porting a provisioning app for android, don't you think?

New to the Dream, questions! (and yes i searched for these first!)

what up yall! My ATT tilt died a few weeks ago (flex cable went bad, decided it was time to move on) so i got a G1 from my buddy that had a broken digitizer and LCD. ordered the parts online and got it put back together today. few questions though.... it seems that about the bottom 1/4 inch of my touch screen dosent respond....its brand new and the rest of it works fin...just the small strip that seems to not work. any ideas? also t mobile are assholes...i cant get them to unlock it but i will work on that one...im quite sure that answer is on here. Also...do i really need to get a data package or can i choose to keep my phone from constantly connecting and updating my gmail and other apps? thats the reason i continue to get HTC is because i think data plans are silly when everywhere in america has WiFI....i think thats all for now...and ive been a member on here for quite sometime but this android mess is totally different. lol. thank yall!
That 1/4" at the bottoms sounds like a bad digitizer. =/ *Most* likely not software. But you can check by flashing a new ROM and if its a software problem, the new ROM will override whatever was causing it not to work before.
You can get it unlocked for $20 from one of many unlocking websites, just google it. You can't get it free anywhere other than T-Mobile sorry to say.
You don't *need* a data package, I don't have one. There are applications that can disable your data connection except for when you need it (i.e. MMS). Or its a built-in widget with the Hero ROMs.
Unless you have a rooted ROM, you will be required to use your data to even use your phone for the first time as it requires you to sign in to your Google account, but doesn't give you the option to use WiFi. But honestly, I think this phone is crippled without a data connection even if you don't use it all the time, I'm currently waiting for my current plan to end to sign another 2-year contract with data. But its up to you, its certainly still usable with enough WiFi connection points.
darn....its not very fun to take apart...plus i have to wait even longer...im currently using an old school , non color green screen nokia probably digitizer and not some random flex cable along the lines? maybe the black one? i guess there wouldnt be any way to check without replacing. and im not real addicted to any apps or anything, just mainly want it as phone/organizer. im a studennt and have wi fi at the house and at school, and every bar i go to has wi fi so i think im covered =) just making sure i could regulate it so it dosent pull and jack my bill up. if i were to flash a new rom, wouldnt that unlock it....and can you still downgrade it to rc29 when you dont have a t mobile sim card....or rather is there any other way besides adp or should i just go ahead and learn how to use it...seems a bit intimidating to anything ive done on a WMo phone.
you can use apndroid to block data from being used accidentally
flashing a rom will not unlock the phone.
Yes you can downgrade to RC29 without a tmo card
mmmk. so rooting and flashing a HTC rom wouldnt do it? if im correct i either have to go through t-mobile or i have to pay like 20 bucks so i can use it with ATT?

You can root without data. Just activate wifi at RC29 when trying to sign in

Rooted ROMs usually have an option to just skip signing into Google don't they? I know they have that for Hero for sure, but I was pretty sure they implemented that to all the cupcake/Donut ROMs too no?
Basically, you'll only need to use that with RC29. And if you do need to sign in and don't wanna use the work around, I would just go ahead and use the data, its only a few KB of info I think (I've never actually measured it, but I very small amounts on my bill even if I do use it to sign in, also using ATT btw).

all ROM's based on adp (and most modded tmo) have the option to skip (at least im pretty sure)
He just wants to activate his phone without data, which would require him to get down to a root level rom (RC29)
after he logs in, he has the option to root or wait for the OTA update if he wants to stay stock
if he wants to try to use his data, he can try but it doesnt always work (it did for me at first, but not the next few times)
ok so update... believe it was a bad digitizer...sending it back monday for a replacement so a few more days without the new toy) I got it registered to my Gmail and everything, and im currently waiting on my unlock code, so that is squared away. now...new questions.....
1. can i not just uncheck the auto sync and all the other data options or do i have to run adp? to make sure it dosent stay connecting and updating my mail and apps?
2. what positives do i have with rooting/flashing? obviously most of you probably have gone that route, and i really enjoyed flashing with my Tilt and having the newest WinMo, but it was always at the cost of it either being buggy or somethings not working. i know this can be searched but i want the simple answer if yall dont mind
3. i also noticed that the only thing so far that dosent work, is the camera/camcorder. keep in mind i got this phone with a broken lcd/digi. so there may have been other problems but i couldnt tell untill the screen was replaced. could it be i put it back together and missed a cable/contact for the camera, or could it just be software related?
...for now i think thats all the problems i have stumbled across... Thanks you all you are making this very easy for a Android Newbie!

1. That would stop just contacts, calendar, and gmail not all of the other apps that come with the phone
2. Rooting is definitely worth it, loving my hero rom
3. If your on RC29 there is no camcorder, but if not then it's definitely a hardware issue, when I was on stock everything worked fine
Just FYI: the unlock code is phone specific, so if your getting a replacement, the unlock code wont work on that one if the code you got was for the other.
1) If you want to disable data, download and run APNDroid. You can turn off autosync if you want but data will still be used.
2) Rooting has lots of advantages. Themes, faster updates (i.e youll get the latest android before its released OTA) more modifications, use of certain apps such as Ad-Free, etc. cooked android roms are more stable than winmo cooked roms, and you have the option between stable/experimental
3) if it was stock, its probably a hardware error
so could i potenitally not have any apps and not have a data pull problem? or it seems as though just rooting and flashing to hero (would you all go hero, or newer 1.6 stock rom, or custom 1.6?) and ill be taking it back apart to send the bad digitzer back, so ill check the ol camera out. still is stock T-mobile 1.5....no rc29 or anything....yet...
if you still have 1.5, you can use the 1 click root
im using hero right now, but i switch between hero and cyan using the switchrom script
the g1 on stock android will still use data even if you have everything disabled. the only way to completely disable it is by changing the apns, or by disabling mobile data on a hero rom
what was wrong with the camera? give a little more detail so we know if it really is a hardware or software problem
Quiccest way to get unlock code..just tellem you are goin to the uk or sum and you are in need of unlocking since u will be on there network for a while.. Usually that works!

Activating Sprint Can not in android?

I have 2 vogues one with android Myns Dark and one with Winmo on it.
I wanted to be able to have the ability to swap back and forth easy without continual reinstall to go from one operating system to the next (hence 2 vogues)
The Problem is when I swap phones on sprint I loose my internet and my phone cannot IOTA to enable the internet properly on the android vogue.
I had to install winmo then run IOTA and then reinstall android(defeating the purpose of 2 vogues) to get my internet working.
Is there a better way. Can we IOTA in android on the vogue?[/B]
maybe run android off your sd card
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5542510&postcount=4
Defeats purpose
I don't want to use SD card Have to wait on winmo all the time! I can run off SD Card on Winmo android.

What no one has any answer, guess that means there is no way to do this??
I think running Android on the SDcard would be easier.
I cheated, both my sprint phones have the same ESN so I don't have to worry about going to the website. Repairing an ESN on the Touch is pretty easy. Do a search if you want go that route. I think directions are available on this site. It won't fix your current issue though.
I believe sometimes sprint changes your data password, so if you have a phone that as not been used for a while it's data won't work. I always run DCD's config file and it seems to fix it but every now and then my Titan refuses to update and I have play with it to get it to work. I would back up my Android phone, reflash WinMo, run DCD's config file and make sure you have data. Then reflash the Android loader, Android install and the restore your backup. You will probably have to redo your display density.
Thank you

I looked into the esn cloning and the link was down to the site that gave instructions and info about that. That is what I would like to do!
I have already gotten the internet working by reinstalling winmo.
I would like to clone my esn. Can you give me a tutorial or a place to download it?
THanks!

PDANet is also another good tethering app.
I am not aware of being able to Flash Android to NAND and then run a "Haret" that will allow you to boot into windows.
I've been running Android 100% since January. The only WinMo thing I miss is the camera quality. Other than that, Android rocks!
well tethering wouldn't be my only reason for wanting to boot back to WM there are others but at the time that was just one example
thanks for the suggestions though if anyone else is aware of a haret like app please post
thanks

i will admit android rocks. every build i have gotten to work works well. however i NEED to be able to sync with the email server at work, and that requires a USB connection to create the partnership. only hang up i have right now... only thing holding me to M$ (unfortunately) pretty pathetic i know, but i have no way around it at this time. until mobile VPN is more perfect, or i can figure where to install a certificate, i am stuck.
if anyone had input please feel free to aid me in my quest

activating a Sprint phone with Android installed?

Is it possible to activate our Touch phones once Android has been installed? Or do I need to go back to WinMo to activate? Just took possession of my wifes old touch and before I activated it I'd installed 2.1. When I called Sprint to activate it they wanted me to enter some combination of ##XXXXXX# and then it was supposed to do something magical. It didn't.
Yes, you can only activate it when you're in WinMo

Jesus tits man, that was a fast reply. Thanks! Flashing now.
Yeah, you need to activate and provision your phone's internet before you flash to android.
You can redownload the factory rom here...
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=19071
Just flash it, do what the CSR tells you, provision your internet, and then enjoy Android.
Yeah. I didn't have the heart to say "Sorry, Windows Mobile sucks nuts on these phones so I hacked it. Any way we can skip this step?" So I told them I'll call back. I'm flashing it now
Make sure everything works in winmo before flashing back to android.

[Q] Downgrade or Root 2.27.651.6

I was selling my phone and i decided to give it the latest update from sprint now its restarting randomly every time. Is anyone know how to fix this restarting problem or can anyone help me root it or downgrade it to something else PLEASE??
2.27.651.6 is the software that the phone as now
Throw DarchDroid on it.
Use this. It is the original unpatched 2.27.651.5 RUU upgrade utility. It can be used to downgrade.
Credits go to Regaw for his link.

I know for sure it works because I've used it to downgrade it a lot. Once you do, if you'd like to root, follow Regaw's Guide (Link)

I'm afraid not. That RUU I posted is specifically for the 2.1 release with the rooting exploit possibility.
Before dumping 2.1, I urge you to give a custom rom a try. It really makes a world of difference,

Thanks...can you recommend a "basic" version? I would just like a clean fast-running OS. No bells and whistles.
I originally wanted BT to work with my pdanet, but can live without that.
I also tried running a hack to get the wireless to see ad hoc networks, but it didn't work either. It too would be nice, but having a phone that doesn't crash would be nicer.
The change of the Maps annoys me the most. The old system used a call-in voice recognition system that worked. The new OS uses "on-board" voice recognition that is the worst I have EVER seen. It can't get ANY words right.
So, you're trying to drive and yelling at the phone for not getting the address correctly, and the type-in option keeps changing screens, closing the keyboard, etc. It's so absolutely useless, I'm shocked any idiot ever decided it was good enough to get though beta.
Thanks,
Greg

Well, it is certainly subjective, but yes, a non-Sense (ha!) Rom does look much more basic. My advice is to try RegawMOD, (the non-themed version) its incredibly fast, and comes with Sense.
By the way, you may be confusing the Maps app with the Navigation app (they are two different apps). The navigation app still does voice recognition.

Thanks, I'll try it out.
Yes, I meant Navigation. The voice recognition on the new Navigation doesn't work at all. Zero zilch nada. It can't recognize the simplest words. "San Jose" becomes "Ben Lomond" or some random city on the other side of the country (it has no geographical sense).
The older system (tied to 1.5, I guess?) had a call-in system that analyzed the voice print offline, on a big computer I guess, and sent the link to your phone. It seemed to work nearly every time.
There's a Stock 2.1 ROM out there if you really want to keep it basic. Just look in the Development section.

Great...
Thought I had DC 2.09 installed clean...until it started to lag, so I rebooted. Now I'm stuck at work without a phone that works, since it's stuck in a bootloop.

Oh, and there are probably no 1.5 Hero's at Sprint anymore. They're most likely ALL 2.1
Hi, guys. I need help but I don't want to start an entirely new thread so I'll add it here.
I just got a new Sprint HTC Hero and it comes preloaded with 2.27.651.6, and I'm trying to downgrade to 2.27.651.5 but when I open RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2.27.651.5_R_signed_release.exe it opens with a loading bar, the bar completes, and then the installer closes. But there's still an instance of it in Task Manager.
I've been struggling with this for days, if anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.
Edit: I'm on Windows XP SP3, my anti-virus and firewall are disabled, and my phone is connected to HTC Sync. I've also tried in Safe Mode.
2.27.651.6 fix issues
hey i just went and got a new cdma hero from sprint because my old on had hardware issues... well i looked and low and behold software build 2.27.651.6... so I get the RUU installer and it keeps giving me an error... i get the progress bar then the verifying info on your phone. then I get error message (170) connection error... its saying my phone isn't connected so i do the fastboot method and still nothing can anyone tell me what im doing wrong?
I'm no expert, but I think I read that if you run the ruu twice, back to back, it will work. I believe it's in regaw's thread somewhere .
For the connection error, do you have the latest htc sync? It has updated drivers.

I'd you are on the .6 build there is a new root tool available. You should be able to do a search for the thread. I'll look for here in a sec.
Edit:
I can't figure out how to post a link from the mobile app but the thread is in the dev section posted by Zenulator.
