[Help] Which e-Mail App Do I Use? - G1 Apps and Games

On Cyanogen's ROM, there's 2 email apps. One called eMail and the other is Work Email. I want to sync my school email to the phone. So, I don't want it taking them off the server but just copying them. Anyway let me know which one I should be using, and maybe what's different about them?
I'd usually forward to my Gmail but my school filters out forwarded mail to Gmail.

You should use eMail for the task. Work Mail is to connect to exchange server.
My suggestion is K9 Mail. You can download from Market, and it has much more features than stock eMail app.

There is no free Mail app for Android I tried so far that I could say I like.
GMail app misses some important GMail functions, eMail app never ever shows me notifications even though I enabled them, Work eMail is exchange only with nearly no options and K9 has graphical, usability and speed issues.
Maybe I should try Touchdown Exchange for my University Mail (which uses exchange).
Are there any other Mail apps someone could recommend?

Android 2.0 Email vs K-9

I'm about to have a G1 soon. Just would like to know, how does the built-in email app in 2.0 compares to K-9...? Which one is better in your opinions?
Thanks in advance.
I use Gmail for my personal use as it pushes the email out as soon as it arrives.
I use K-9 Mail for my work email account - there is no push - K-9 Mail can be set to check the mail at different intervals.
They both are free and they both have a few different features.
My advice - use them both for awhile and then get rid of whatever one you like the least.
Unless you're using a half-complete Eclair rom, you won't be getting 2.0 email until HTC updates their drivers.
But if you're looking for push email, Seven is a good one. It's in beta, so you have to register (but it's automatic, no waiting), but the client isn't that bad. It pushes through their servers like Google does for Gmail, and it also works for other email services like Hotmail, Yahoo, Aol, etc.
K-9 does do Push. If you connect to an IMAP server, K-9 uses the IMAP IDLE command to quietly wait for mail notification. I get notified on my phone as fast as running Thunderbird on my PC.

Thunderbird isn't push
But the OP was wondering about the Android 2.0 E-mail app if I am not mistaken, not the Gmail app.
Yep. It's my understanding that in 2.0 the Gmail app has been integrated into the Email app, correct?
I'm getting a G1, probably will install Cyan on it. But I don't like 2 email apps. So I wonder if there's a compelling reason to use a half-baked 2.0 on it.
Thanks to all.

I guess it depends on your definition of push.
Most people think of Push email as Instant notification. Thunderbird connected to an IMAP server provides instant notification by using the IMAP IDLE command. This does require a permanent connection to the IMAP server.
Find out more about Thunderbird and IMAP here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/IMAP
And this paper compares various methods of "Push" notifications: http://www.isode.com/whitepapers/imap-idle.html
K-9 Supports IMAP IDLE and so gives instant notification of new mail.
(I'm not the developer, just a fan)

I wasn't aware Thunderbird did that, I don't use it as such, not really a big fan of it. I point all my personal domains e-mail to Gmail
edit: I also tried k-9 for another one of my accounts. Didn't like it that much. The interface was mostly annoying to me.
My phone was out of storage so anytime I wanted to install a new program, I had to uninstall an old one. I installed Diskusage to see what was causing it and K9 mail was taking 95MB. I deleted all messages from the trash and inbox folder and it was the same. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it is now normal. Any ideas why K9 mail was taking so much storage?

[Q] Good EMail App

Hello! So i'm new to the whole android scene, ive been using iPhones for 2 years, and windows mobile for years before that.
Currently on my phone, i have the gmail app for my gmail, some other email app that came with the captivate for my exchange syncing, and im using K-9 mail for my MSN email accounts (there's 3).
Everything works very well EXCEPT for the hotmail accounts. I would prefer to have all of my email accounts in 1 email app where i can open it up, pick the account and choose the folder i want to view (inbox, junk, trash, sent items, etc..)
Im having a tough time finding one... I'm ok with using 2 or 3 but 1 would of course be ideal. The biggest issue im having is the syncing. Ive tried every setting possible and my K-9 mail will not auto sync with the msn/hotmail servers. The only way to get my mail is to get into K-9 mail and tell it to sync, then after several minutes i'll have everything synced and see my new emails.
Is there an app that can combine all these, or just the hotmail accounts that will sync every hour or so automatically that anybody knows of?
Why not auto-forward your hotmail to your gmail. Or POP your hotmail from your gmail? You can set up a filter to label them as hotmail messages, or even use the multiple inbox lab.
There is no good all in one email app
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
MSN/Hotmail now supports full exchange sync with email, contacts and calendar. MS claims there is known issue with Android 2.1. In my case, I found the contacts sync doesn't work for me. MS advise you to use Android apps like TouchDown etc to do the sync instead.
The exchange server address is m.hotmail.com and use your email address and password to login.
So, you can use the default email app to add exchange sync for your MSN/hotmail account. The downside is that email app limits you to max two Exchange accounts.

[Q] Several email accounts - which client to use?

I have several email accounts... they are all POP3 accounts. On my pc I have Outlook, Thunderbird, and Pegasus as clients... and I telnet into my shell account for the fourth email account. (None are gmail accounts)
I'd like to have at least some of them on my Xoom... At the very least, I'd like m work email and one of my personal email accounts on my xoom.
I currently have no email clients configured...
What would be the best way to go about this??
I don't need the messages all downloaded... I'd rather just get headers for them and if I want to read a certain message then it would download the body.
Is that even possible??
Thanks!!
K-9 Mail, available free in the market, will do what you want.

[Q] Immediate email notification????

I am using cammster.com as one of my security applications at home. it sends me an email when it detects motion. However, I cannnot seem to find a friendly app that will send am email immediately to my Sprint Hero.
What free email program and app can I use that will send me an email when cammster sends it out, and notify me right away.
I have tried a google account (gmail), but it seems to want to check for emails at predefined intervals when using the main email client (that I also use for a work (exchange) email address).
I tried a yahoo (ymail) app and email addy, but it would conflict with my work email and stop the program from receiving the work or the ymail mail.
I quickly tried K9 app, but couldn't figure out how to use it with the yahoo mail to notify me immediately of the new email
Any suggestions?!?!?
The gmail client does push notifications. You should use the gmail client not the mail client for a google account (gmail).

Are you on a Rom? Or are you on the stock sense rom? I am curious because sense is a bit more friendly with accounts and sync.. in the settings menu, there is actually a section called "Accounts & Sync". In there, you can enable background data and auto-sync. It will probably not be instantaneous, but honestly, your battery would die immediately if your phone was constantly checking your email. I suggest WildHeroc as it is currently the bomb digity. Have a good night.

Email client?

Can anyone tell me best email client for Galaxy Note as stock email clients takes time to load messages.
everyone will have varying experiences so technically there is no best avialable, many seem to say that k-9 mail suits them best
Multiple email accounts with stock email app?
Any way to sync stock mail with multiple accounts on Galaxy Note? I linked it up to one of my Yahoo! mail accounts, and that's all I can do, it won't let me link up to other Yahoo! mail accounts with the option of choosing which one I want to log into.
I use K9 mail. It's free and feature rich. Only downside is it can not auto syc POP3 (Hotmail) and can not group emails into conversation.
If you going to use K9, best to set the theme as black, looks better IMO and use less battery.
