I just released my first app on the market, "Kingdroid Scripts" great little app that i made for myself then decided to release it. i will try to keep this thread updated as i work on the app as it is still a work in progress. but right now it features all three forms of reboot at the press of a button, mounting your system as r/w and mounting and unmounting your sd card when plugged into a computer. i know for sure the app works great on TheDudes .92 build since that is what me and my beta tester are running. i will be testing it later today on a JF 1.42 phone.
there are two versions one paid(donate) and one free, but there is no difference between the two applications other than in the paid version you won't get a random dialog box asking you to donate
**TO DO**
get script to run for apps to SD and cache to SD
get script for Undo move cache/apps
polish up the UI a little, make some buttons and a better icon
listen to user requests for scripts. anything you would like you phone to do in a single button click let me know and i will see if i can implement it

if you are using a haykuro build it seems there is an issue, right now (tested on dude build .92) there are buttons for reboot, reboot recovery, reboot bootloader, mount sd card, and unmount sdcard. i am quickly working on getting this compatible with the haykuro builds since a lot of people have been using his builds

I have apps2sd and I unmounted my SD card.. IT worked.

other than in my app the scripts are included and you just open it up and hit the buttons rather than writing the scripts first no. my app is free as well, i just happen to be completely broke and jobless at this time so i decided to release a donate version. the only time you get nagged to donate in the free version is if you rotate the screen, or start the app.

i am currently running haykuro's 1.5 build to see why it is not compatible, i also just grabbed the JF build so i will see if it works there too otherwise i gotta figure out what's wrong with it

yeah just discovered that, i don't know what haykuro and jf did different from dude, but the app is just running commands so i don't know why it isn't working. might be kernal but i hope not as dude just updated to the same kernal and that would depress me

It is the new superuser. And, Rogro had the same issue with Gscript and fixed it. Something to do with superuser being a little more finiky about what it allows.
Dudes' .93 version has the new superuser added in.

nope dude implemented the new superuser app into the .94 build and the original version works just fine(the released version) so i still have no freaking clue as to what is going on

MAybe make a button to auto format an SD card with that script I like so much in the dev forum. Would have to warn about loosing all data and the size of the SD card would matter for 1 of the commands.

i seriously considered this, but it may be diffucult and may require some bonus complicated work. when i though about doing it i was gonna have a second screen popup that allowed user to put in size of sdcard (easily rounded in MB so that 1000MB was 1GB) and then ask how large they wanted the ext2 partition to be and use the difference as the argument. i would have to go get another SD card for this to allow testing without totally F***ing my sdcard/phone. also i would need to go through and update it anytime the script was fixed with any minor bugfix. which may get annoying, and i would feel more than obligated to throw 20% of my earnings(which isn't much) from my donate version to martinFink and also have his permission to use the script for possible monetary gain and give him a %. might be a lot of work that i am not quite ready for, or it might not be as hard as i think. i will look into it since it was requested

New to Android or NAND?

First off, What is NAND?
To keep it simple...its your phones internal memory. Up untill recently we (Vogue Users) had to run Android off our SD cards using HARET. But thats another story.
What are the benefits of running from NAND? (based on what I have seen)
-Runs faster
-Longer Battery life
-faster boot up
-can be faster to put together.
-Easier to connect your vogue with android to your pc and sync
-Much more convenient.
So how do I start?
STEP1:
The Build
First you need to find a Build that is usable with NAND. Most Hero builds at this moment are not. Here are some links:

STEP2:
Base Files (Most builds will supply these)
For all builds (Except the Link in Cupcake "instructions are givin in the download.) you will need a basic set of base files. The link below contains the 3 basic empty files for all builds and Systems.

You are using Hero make sure you download hero.user.conf too:

-create a new folder called conf
-and place hero.user.conf in your new folder.
STEP3:
Rootfs
After you have the Base files you will need a rootfs. Depending on your Build, you may need a different type then the one I am going to supply you. Most builds will supply you with one. This one is DZO's rootfs.

STEP4:
Prepare
-You need to clean out your storage on your SD. Make sure you delete everything.
-Create a file called android on your desktop.
-Download the base files, unzip, open folder, and place all 3 in your android folder
-Download the rootfs and place them in your android folder. Make sure you either download DZO's or the one your Build provides.
-Download a System.img. When you download a System most likely it will have a different name such as system-hero-123.img. You need to rename it system. So it should look like system.img . Then place it in your android folder.
-If you are using Hero place your conf folder in your android folder.
-Depending on your Build (mostly Hero) you may also need a Data file. The build you select should supply one. Download it and place it in your Android Folder
STEP5
Placing
Open up your android folder of all your collected files and select all, copy, and paste into your empty SD card.

Unlocking
If you have never flashed a ROM before than you don't have HardSPL installed. So unlock your phone with...

After you have have gotten the kernel:
rename it to RUU_signed and place it in the ROMUpdateUtility folder you created.
NOW you need to plug your phone into your computer. Establish active sync. And run ROMUpdateUtility.
-Follow the Instructions on the screen.

If you fail OR think your bricked your phone.
You will need to download one of these depending on your carrier...Make sure you download the shipped gps rom. (If you are Verizon skip down)

Than you will put your phone in boot mode. Hold the Camera and Power button. While holding both of them...get a pen or something small and hit the little restart button on the bottom of your phone. You may have to hold it for like a second.
-you will see three color bars on your phone
-plug your phone into your computer
-run the backup
After your phone is all back to normal. Make sure you run internet explore on your phone. It will enable you to get data.

great thread. I've run both from nand and sdcard. i have not messed with ext2 on the sdcard.
I agree with 3 for sure. I would also add that there is a deep gratification in wiping win mo off the sdcard
6 is debatable, depends on which conveniences you want. changing lcd.density, changing resolution are all much faster running from the sdcard - no flashing or messing with build.prop, just edit default.txt and reboot (aside - if you have a non-sdhc card you can flash on the fly from the sdcard, but changing lcd.density still requires pulling and pushing files from the system, which is not as easy as changing the default.txt). also more convenient to back-up or revert to a data.img when running from sdcard. definitely booting straight into android is convenient, as is the new mass storage on boot method, as well as having a re-writable system (which you also have using ext2).
1 and 2, I honestly have not noted a significant difference in battery life. With a fast sdcard, I don't think there is a significant difference in speed either - dzo has said this in one of the non-vogue forums as well. i have not tried any sense builds from the sdcard though, and that's where you would notice the greatest difference in speed if there is any.
4 I agree with in general.
I think running from the nand is a huge advance, and great for everyone to try. but, running from the sdcard is still a decent way to use android. choosing between the two comes down to choosing which conveniences suit your usage style the most.
One last thing - please add vilord to your donate links (his google ion on vogue thread), he has been instrumental in developing the ril and advancing android on the vogue. srwalter also deserves mention for his reverse engineering of the libgps.so to bring gps first to cupcake and now to donut as well. jamezelle, plemen, mssmison, zenulator, enatefox, f00bar (no specific order) have all worked hard porting roms and working on things like compcache, swap, modem, etc, which has all been invaluable (zenulator and mssmison deserve special credit for spearheading the porting business). however the gruntwork of porting to the vogue has been done mainly by dzo who brought us the kernel and initial ril and now nand (he's just frickin amazing, he singlehandedly got the first functioning port to the vogue and others helped from there), then vilord who took the ril and really refined it. I guess suffice to say, there have been a lot of people involved along the way, thanks to all of them.

When do you get this error? During linux kernel bootup?

Verizon users.
I just update a fix for Verizon users. Shows you how to get GPS too!

Also...there will be a video up soon. It seems that there are so many people having issues. So I will create a video from start to finish. Will be posted up late tonight/ tomorrow morning.

i running with a 8gig PNY sdcard
it could theoretically run off of a 512, but you would be a little cramped on space
i guess android doesnt like some of them

so really it doesn't matter how big the card is? do they all have to be formatted to fat32?

Yes that is correct, as for deleting the files...I would assume you could. But im not sure. Maybe they are still needed on boot. Never hurts to try though.

Wait...NVM you want data to work right?

If you are using donut...try to restart your phone one time. After it boots back up you should see a 3g symbol appear on the notification bar.
If that does not work...go to your apps and open modem. Click once on disconnect and then once more. Then click connect.
Tell me if that works...

Odex script and optimised donut build

Our devices don't have very much flash memory and it's easy to fill up /data with apps but here is a quick solution that can give you a bit more space.
In /data is a directory called dalvik-cache, this is a cache of the classes.dex from every app on the device, including those in /system.
On most android devices this doesn't happen, the system applications and the framework are stored as optimised dex files with a .odex extension.
People have spent a lot of time figuring out how to recreate the apks from the odex files and this is good if you have enough space to put all your apps on the device twice because it allows them to be easily swapped for theming.
The attached script goes through each app and jar in /system, creates an odex file and deletes classes.dex. It will give you about 30M extra space on /data while making /system about 10% bigger.
To run it do the following:
Backup you device
Make sure you have at least 15% free on /system, this is important because if you run out of space things will go badly wrong.
unzip odex.zip and then do:
adb push odex /data/odex
adb shell /data/odex/odex.sh
Wait till it finishes and then reboot the phone.
Another reason for odexing is that it boots very quickly and when testing kernels its nice not to have to wait too long.
If you want to see a simple odexed system try this:

Rename it to androidinstall.tar and it will give you the donut system in the attached screenshots.
The main disadvantage of odexing is that it means you can't change the theme without reinstalling /system so find a theme you like before doing this to your device.

The end user could run it, too...
Any thoughts on adding this to the install menu? That way you could install system, apply themes, then odex.

I updated the system tar in the first post to fix the broken calendar. I've been running this on my primary phone for a few days now and it seems much faster than it was. Perhaps there's are fewer file accesses with an odexed system and it needs to keep less data in the fs cache. Whatever the reason, give it a try.

is there anyway to do this from the phone without adb?

Include in vogue tools?

Two strange things with this build (on a Kaiser and I've added Wifi so maybe that has to do with it?)
- It never sleeps, I haven't run any Donut build for very long but I think I had this issue when trying the Warm Donut once.
If I turn off the screen (or if it times out by itself) this shows up in /dev/kmsg:
stop_drawing_early_suspend: timeout waiting for userspace to stop drawing
- When I run GPS Test and use the time screen the updates are irregular and sometimes skips a couple of seconds and sometimes several updates comes quickle after each other (with less than a second between them). I actually spent some time debugging my GPS code before I tried on eclair and realized it was not the GPS code that was causing it.
Perhaps both issues are related. I've a panel 1 Kaiser.
Other than that it feels very quick and snappy but no sleeping is terrible for the battery life.
Oh, and I tried turning off both wifi and background transfer but that doesn't help.

Tried this on Incubus's Tattoo and it got to HTCCamera.apk and failed:

it might have something to do with most of the apk's already being odexed

It also odexes every app in /data/app on boot (and clears the dalvik cache).

Great, I am using it daily on my kaiser at the moment. I understand that Kalt_Kaffe had problems with sleeping and battery life, but it works fine for me.

yea i shouldnt have the sleep and battery life problems because i run a vogue and they do things a little differently.
i wish i wasnt changing builds like every other day anymore

this is an excellent vanilla donut build dzo. it's very responsive and stable running from my sd card on the vogue so far. i really like myn's warm donut rom but it would frequently lock up requiring a restart; not the case with this build. thanks.
edit: is it possible to run the odex script again considering that i've been funning this build on my sd card? i wanted to odex the additional apps i added since the first install. also, would i have to manually remove the odexed files after updating an apk?

Had this running for a day on my old Kaiser and it's nearly as fast as my Hero! Fantastic work! Thanks!

just download mini tool partioning its free find on google.Partition your sdcard the main to be f32 and another one ex2 partition both as primary.Put all packege on sdcard and follow readme.text inside thats all. Use any good kernel you were using, and enjoy

Ah is it possible to make an ext2 file? Just like XDAndroid?

I tried to just run the npkinstall but it crashed. Now I can't even run haret or a few other apps on my phone. I'm getting, "...cannot be opened. either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found.." Is there a quick fix for this? Or am I going to have to restore? I kind of don't want to have to restore..

Yes, I have ext2. the Gingerbread running on topaz is good, some point need improvement. it is worth to try.

Nice work they did, but didn't like the graphics. They seemed low quality, I suppose there was a resolution issue with the graphics.

After messing around with it overnight i have noticed several stability issues mostly pertaining to apps (such as the gallery mentioned, browser and google search) but it is still the alpha build. Hopefully neopeek will release the alpha3 build promised today but if not its still nice to know that gingerbread is up and running!
for those who are trying to figure out the install there is step by step instructions on the thread if you scroll down a tad. In summary, download mini partion tool. run it. find your sd card and reformat it with a fat32 partition and ext2 partition, both must be set to primary but the ext2 partition only needs 400-600 mb. after this copy and paste everything from the package download and get a kernel ( note: must use neopeek kernels! best i found so far is th "htc-msm-linux @ 20101204_005141" just google and download) next step is to put the correct startup file in the root and the right install startup in the npkinstall folder. Next is to run the install file inside the npkinstall folder...wait.... it'll restart your phone then you can run haret! make sure you put the zimage and module files in the root like you would with an xda android port.

Yeah seems pretty snappy, like others have mentioned it has stability issues. I've gotta say I am impressed with how well it works for an alpha build.

camera is an ongoing problem and won't be fixed for awhile tho they have apparently gotten it to work on diamond. as for the wifi you just need to use the kernel i posted heres a link to the download

Your kernel doesn't work , need rename and overwrite the old one?

I have been running Neopeeks build for the last 24 hours, and i must say it is almost as fast as FRX03 Froyo build. Some apps do freeze the device and must soft reset, Gps was not working, battery drain was huge and videos could not be played(tested with youtube). I don't own a BT headset so did not test that. All in all it is a great alpha build,and totally worth a try if you don't mind partioning your sd card.

[TESTING] XDAndroid GBX0C 2.3.7 Build

Hey folks,
This is a completely new build, with all the new changes baked in. We wanted to do a semi-official test release to collect bugs and hopefully do a formal official release with everything settled. The main pain point is the CSV files (see pre-install prep).
So a brief overview:
New acoustic routing code baked in. Should fix most if not all audio routing problems, and will provide more debugging if stuff does go wrong. Also allows for more granular tweaking, see the CSV files.
GPS fixes for GB - GPS not only works in GB now, but it doesn't kill sleep! I was able to use GPS, get a solid lock, and put the device to sleep no problem.
BT should work & well with the new acoustic code. Post results.
RHOD users now have a choice of kernels. .35+ all have the new acoustic - so .35, .39, 3.0 and 3.1 are all fair game now... This is bundled with .27!!
Keep in mind, autobuild .27 kernels will produce no audio in this build... Obviously the bundled kernel will work, and the absolute newest .27 autobuild kernel does work now - Feb.27 2012 or newer.
rootfs tweaks - first, it will detect which kernel you're on (.27 or .35+) and automatically apply the correct firmware. Second, is it will always copy/extract the modules... failures there were getting annoying, and this is surefire if brute-force...

Pre-Install Prep REQUIRED!!!​
This step is crucial, and I forgot all about it! You must copy all of the *.CSV file from your WinMo ROM - these are in the \Windows\ directory. There's a very easy way to do this. It involves the Total Commander app for WinMo (Direct Link for the perpetually lazy...) (included in EnergyROM and others probably).
Now you're in Total Commander looking at your \Windows\ directory. Whew... lots of files. Fear not! Hit the "CTRL" button, then the green "Plus" button. This opens the Select/Unselect files dialog. Put in *.csv, press "select" and voila. All CSV files are selected. Now - File -> Copy/Move -> I want you to copy these (should be 10) files to the ROOT of your SD card. No folders!!! This is hardset right now, until we get it all implemented into the build properly. Thanks!
Install​
Assuming you've done the pre-install prep; this is installed just like the other XDAndroid builds - grab your startup.txt (don't forget rel_path= if you don't have it at the root of the SD!), ts-calibration and boot!

Caveat List​​
CDMA users might get a crash in phone.apk and no service on boot. If waiting doesn't resolve the issue, then reboot. Should come up fine...
BT might still be flaky
The CSV files from my TOPA100 are attached for the lazy. I'd like to gather CSV's from each RHOD, I'm curious if any ROM devs have changed them out either... This could get interesting. If you folks don't mind, post up your CSV's, point out differences with mine, etc... We're trying to figure out how to unify these, if possible! Thanks!

Any information you'd like to provide? I can't really help you, you've given me nothing to go on.
I assume you mean "stuck" on boot. So stuck on the haret loading bar? Stuck on the flying text? Stuck on the boot animation? C'mon.

sorry, of course, I install like you write above...in console it can't detect build type...install on root of sd all std startup for topaz, no changes...if it help I'll can take a photo of console

Can't detect build type... I had that yesterday, and forgot no_partitions in my startup. Perhaps same issue for you? Obviously this setup runs without a partitioned card, and if your card is partitioned you must tell the system that you want to ignore the partitions and just boot looped.

First of all thanks for your hard work and i'm so impressed by the way that XDAndroid changed my phone. But in this new version i remarqued that i have some missed applications in Android Market like "Tunis Radar" who is working in FRX07. There is a solution for this problem please ?

From what I gather, there's apps that work in FRX07 that don't work here. Tunis Radar? Is that a GPS app..? Any other apps that don't work?

Yes it's a GPS application and i can't see it in android market (it display that they are 15 results but i can see only Sygic (GPS App)).

What about to make this build in CWM?

Perhaps it doesn't work for your device? I don't know, try to get an apk.

Why? It runs off the SD card, full-blown recovery is ridiculous overkill.

This bug has existed forever. Probably since wifi was enabled for you guys. C'mon.

i was testing it and i can not run "my backup pro" in order to restore all my apps. i have tried versions 2.66 and 3.01 of this app.
anybody with success in this stuff? thanks a lot
maybe with titanium backup?
i know...my backup is from froyo frx07 version but i think it is possible if the app can run and not force closes itself at the begining
what about battery? any longer results in batt life? maybe not...

Battery hasn't really changed.
Titanium Backup works great, I use it almost every day.
