Hey guys =)
Thinking about biting the bullet and getting the N1 for AT&T.
Would appreciate if I could get some answers from everyday users:
1. Exchange sync - I know contacts and email are working, what about calendar? Exchange is paramount for me. Do I need some mod to sync exchange calendar?
2. Screen - there's been some scare about the screen colors being off. Is it true for AT&T's version? Is it noticeable? Does it bother you?
3. 3G/HSDPA speeds - what kind of internet speeds are you getting on AT&T? Are you getting HSDPA?
Thanks for helping me choose.

I'm from Spain so I can't answer 3, but I can answer this one (although not explicitly for AT&T's version...) I really just love screen. It's definitely a lot better than an iPhone's in showing colors as well as resolution-wise. I don't know if there's an issue with AT&T phones, but that's definitely not a problem on mine at all!
Hope it helps.

Thanks for wasting your time to state the obvious.
Since I'm asking, that means I didn't find a concise answer to the questions. Either answer them, or move along.
I have 2 N1s (wife and me). Wife's screen is brighter...whites are whiter...etc. If I'm not next to hers comparing...I love the screen! Plus...after putting on a dark theme...mine seems brighter now...(if you don't look too closely! )
TMobile phones...BTW.

So u both got TMo's N1s and screens look different?
1. Exchange sync - Does NOT work with my work exchange. Something about it not supporting needed security policies. OWA works fine.
I use google-sync to sync my exchange cal to google cal, and then the agenda widget to view/edit.
2. Screen - Dunno about the ATT version, No issues with my unshackled t-mo n1
3. 3G/HSDPA speeds - Cant say since I have the t-mo banded phone.

yup.
Sitting at home, the speedtest returned 2.84Mbps down / 1.40Mbps up. Not too shabby.
For exchange support you really can't beat Touchdown. I know it isn't free and kind of pricey at $20 (Due to the legal exchange licensing) but it is constantly being updated and works with all exchange set-ups. The MOTO exchange apps don't work with my work network either, but there has never been a problem with Touchdown.
It correctly syncs the Cal. and lets you use the GAL and create new appt., reply to appt. requests etc. It works as well (or better) as exchange mobile for WinMo IMO.
Plus, if it is for work why don't you do what I did and try to get your company to pay for it

From the sound of it, he doesn't care how it looks so much as how many minutes he can save. That's the impression I got.
If that's the case, then I'm confused. Why ask it here? That's obviously a carrier (T-Mobile) deal. Unless I'm mistaken, there isn't any magical software that can tweak your minutes.

Hey guys, just need a little help here. My bosses wife who currently owns a 2G IPHONE is trading up to a tilt. I am just curious since Ive never owned an iphone, how do you transfer contacts from one to the other? I usually use PIMBACKUP but doubt this will be compatible with the iphone. Just curious, thanks in advance.
Sync the iphone with outlook, then do the same with the Tilt.
um, well, um we don't do Iphones here. I would suggest planet-iphones.com for your help. Maybe look on the phone to find how to copy the conacts to sim or sync with outlook.
taken from an older discussion not on xda
To sync contacts and calendar on outlook open itunes, select your iphone, on summary tab check 'automatically sync when iphone is connected', on info tab check 'sync contacts with outlook' and 'sync calendar with outlook'

then plug the kaiser in (after installing the latest version of activesync) then sync contacts and anything else you want via activesync (using outlook's saved information from iphone)

I just stopped using my tilt.
It ended up being more of a pain.
Just making a phone call was frustrating.
If Microsoft can make a true touch controlled o/s it would make things so much better. HTC makes some cool stuff but the products themselves are made out of cheap materials. The tilt was my second htc device, they both didnt handle a years worth of use very well.

There's one thats called gfinder or something similar. I'll try and find the exact name unless someone else can chime in.
When I first went into the t-mobile store to check out the g1, they showed me something similiar to what you are asking but the downfall was that other g1 users had to opt in to use it. For some reason I thought it was part of the original cupcake software
Now that I checked, it is right in google maps, called latitude
latitude
Does latitude have general people on it or do you have to add friends before you can use it ???
It's friends only.

You have to add friends but the gfinder or gfindster just see's everyone, but of course they would have to have the app installed. I used it a long time ago and didn't think much of it. While looking that up I saw another app called loopt that looks like the same thing, I could be wrong tho.
Latitude works for everybody. Not just G1 users. It uses your Gmail account to send request to other people who have to accept you and allow you to see where they are at and chat and stuff. Works nicely, but you have to know their e-mail address to get them added.
So, no you can not find random people with G1's to connect with. I don't know if there is an app that will allow that, but Latitude will not.
I believe you have to opt in to use it, general people on there and since it requires your gps to use, I don't think that you will find any one using except for the most basic users that are unaware that turning off the gps saves you some serious battery life
Aight I just looked it up and its call GFindster PREMIUM but they also have a lite version.
Hmmm, seems like the salesman at t-mobile gave me the wrong info then but since I never used it, I was baseing my info on inacurate info, sorry

No your right cause they was pushing the whole latitude thing. But GFindster is just a seperate app that looks up anyone without having them listed as friends.

Thankyou you all for your help I will check out the gfindster app and see how it goes.
you should also check out buddymob
shows where all users are on a map around you and you can click on their little dot (pink for women, blue for guys) and it will show you their profile without having to be their friend
I've had my G1 since Christmas of 08 and I finally decided to root. I jailbroke my ipod touch, and I heard rooting is similar to that, so i'm up for the task. I have firmware 1.6 and build number DMD64.
What exactly do I need to do, and what is the best rom to date that is good to use?

Did you search or anything?
You won't get anyone here that's going to hold your hand or do it for you because in the twenty or so minutes that you waiting for the answer to be handed to you you could have found it for yourself by reading the above link and/or searching. So you are in actually just wasting your time posting your question. By the way since you are obviously new to XDA here's a fair warning. There are three types of people on here... those that help, those that are idle (just read but don't post) and those that need everything done for them. What kind do you think your first impression made and what kind of people do you think get flammed by the Senior Members that spend hours every week helping people like yourself by answering the same questions over and over again even after it's already been answered. And you're probably thinking "Instead of writing out this whole damn thing, why didn't he just tell me the answer?" Well because if you don't learn this way you're only going to rely on us from here on out if you are spoon fed. Again, I'm not trying to be a d!ck but if you want to make it here on XDA you have to play by the rules. Happy rooting!

A rooted phone is timeless, you can have any version of Android, whenever you want it. Therefore, it makes sense that an old thread is just as good as a new thread that has the same exact information other than the rom you flash.
Ok, I finished rooting my G1 and got to the HTC v.1.5.2 screen, now i'm going to install a rom
Thanks to all of the guides and youtube videos, I now have Manup456 Eclair 2.1 V1.5 on my G1! Just going back to put back in my ringtones and files. It's like I have a brand new phone!

wow, seriously? noone can get any help any more. everyone is just such a **** these days.
anyways, you need a data plan to root ur phone. you personally don't need it, but get a friend that has a data plan and use his SIM card for the procedure. and i'm sure there are some apps that force all data to be stopped and only allow wifi. i know my hero rom has an option to disable all data except for wifi built right in. i used hero_over. but i'm sure all hero roms have that option.

Your method is probably the most "common-sense" idea. We're not being dicks, we're just sick and tired of people not searching before posting, there's about millions of pages on google on the topic but they insist on coming here anyways. He can register through wifi with adb which most people do, so this pretty much contradicts the word "need" in your first statement. I won't carry on because I don't need to because I'd be a "****".

But when you really think about it, what's the point of having a Dream if you don't have a data plan? The majority of what the phone does involves intensive data plan usage, and I don't know about anybody else, but I actually use my device other than sitting at my computer.

Please take your backseat moderating somewhere else. I was using what we call "sarcasm". And clearly, the other part of my post did hold value: asking yajinni to clarify what he/she was saying. Thanks
To my point, I was asking yajinni to clarify for others who have tried this in NYC, I couldn't care less about NYC. But if the poster doesn't clarify what they meant, others testing in the area will not know what to appropriately respond to him/her with. Also, reading yajinni's previous post, it is clear he/she speaks English perfectly fine. So I felt like joking with their obvious typo, and then asking them "seriously" to clarify.
So, would you like a worth while post from me? Fine. I am in Tampa, and can confirm that the 3d models work in Tampa. The 3d models only show up in map mode. In satellite layer on, only tilt, no models. Again, this is in TAMPA, I have not had a chance to search every city supporting 3d models.

the way to make it work is to wait til gps finds you then hit the target button beside the layers button. hit it twice and it should automatically tilt a little bit and follow the way your facing. also we dont have the ability use the multi touch tilt and turn sadly. our device doesnt support it according to google but brut is making some headway in the g1 android development section so keep your eyes out there! we might end up having all of the features that google says we cant.
as for actual 3d tilt its only in certain areas as stated above. a way to verify its actually working scroll over to san diegp california after you hit the target twice and you should see buildings in 3d and if you do there and not your city then that means your city isnt supported yet
