move apps to sd (please help) - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ive got a 512mb ext4 partition running on cm5.0.5.2 and had a2sd enabled
is there any way i could transfer all my apps from the phone mem to sd without reinstalling them ?

Yes. I have app manager pro installed, free will work also. I like the pro cause it show the apps install in the menu. I back up all the unprotected app to sd. Then I went menu, install from there all the app I have install I just clicked install. As they install they move to the sd partition. The protected apps I just wait for a market update or manually do those.

thx buddy !!

[Help] Can't detect apps (apps2sd)

Hi i'm using unlocked G1 with CynogenMod 3.4 ROM
I changed my SIM Card with another one, but after i turn it on all the apps that i installed in sd can't be detected. (in application manager only the apps from the rom is listed)
When i check the sd card & phone storage, the internal phone storage still shows 848MB available space.
How can i get all my installed apps back without reinstalling the apps?
Thank you
Note: before i changed also the sim card but it worked normally, this is the first time happened can't read all the installed apps on my sd.
I had the same thing happen to me. All I did was mount the sdcard in ubuntu, grab all the apps, and adb install them all back with a batch script. It only took a little bit, but hey, it works. If a2sd didnt take for you, you might want to rewipe, reflash, reformat, repartition after youve gathered all of your apks.
look in the cyanogen thread...
install 3.4.1 and if you have a theme, reinstall the theme. maybe you will have to redo apps2sd from the recovery console (Power on + Home Button) too.
thanks, i'll install the new version

Another problem with moving apps to SD

I rooted.
I flashed attn1 R012
I ADB'd (why?)
I partitioned with ROM Manager
I cannot get an app from Market to work to move my apps to SD.
Did I install the wrong ROM for this?
I thought this was supposed to be a feature of this ROM.
Al I wanted to be able to do was get rid of bloatware and move the apps to the SD.
This is getting overwhelming.
What do I do?
Download titanuim backup and check in a2sd and see if u have a ext?
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
I just dl'ed it (the pro version) It's not in my apps list, but I do see it in settings>manage applications. ???
To move all of your downloaded apps to the SD card (note this does not affect your system apps):
Terminal Emulator
type:
su
Click to collapse
accept SuperUser permissions
then:
a2sd reinstall
Click to collapse

Ok, I did a2sd reinstall at terminal emulator.
I downloaded Titanium free to go with my unlock version.
Here's what I see now:
Internal 194MB (117MB Free)
SD Card 7.61 GB (6.65GB Free)
SD Card (a2sd) 239 MB (124MB Free)
So, looks like it is setup now, right?
Thanks for your help!
I should probably increase the a2sd size; I don't have nearly all of the apps I want
okay my first post!
I did the above mentioned all looks good. Do have to do this every once in a while to move the apps to the sd card or will all future downloaded apps be moved to the sd card at download?
All future downloads/installations will automatically be placed on the ext partition. So nope, just do it once, make sure it's installed, and you're ready to take off.
Thanks for the response.
1. If I flash another rom with a2sd do i have to do anything special in regards to the apps on the on the ext.
2. Is the devlik cache also moved to the Sd card now? If not how would I move it?
3. If I replace the sd card with a new one would I just format and create the ext partion and how do I get the apps off the old card?
Thanks in advance

1. if you're using DT a2sd then yes you will need to reflash it after flashing a new rom.
2. again if using DT a2sd you will have to go into the terminal emulator and type 'su', hit enter. Then type 'a2sd cachesd'. This will move your dalvic to the ext. On the built a2sd there is no option to do this.
3. to get the apps of the old ext partition you will need some form of a linux operating system such as ubuntu (you can run ubunty right off a cd or usb without actually installing it to your computer) and you can literally just copy and paste. Windows does not do this as it cannnot see you ext partition and I have no idea if Mac can or not.
Understood.
Thanks for the quick response.

System ROM space

Hi all,
my Gtab P1000 2.2 rooted is out of space.
With Titanium Backup i've seen that i have only 5 MB available in system rom space
infact i tried to install an application of 13,62 MB and i'm unable to do it.
Is there a way to clean up system rom? is the fault of the installed applications?
thanks
one last question: my tab is rooted if i upgrade to gingerbread would i re-root the device?
move some app from your phone to sdcard
use titanium if can do so or search on the market there is alot of them up there
I've already copied some apps to sd but nothing is changed.
i ve 2gb for apps and i have 1,46 gb free
system rom is almost empty. If i uninstall apps or move them in SD nothing change....
I'm having the same prob. I've moved all programs to SD (via move to SD card or link2SD program) but it doesn't solve the message or the quota.
I think it's a bug.

Rooted my phone, moved apps to sd card, dumped dalvik cache, but still full memory...

Hey every one,
Yesterday i rooted my phone using superoneclick (running android 2.2.1) because i was getting sick of the fact that my memory was running full.
After that i did this:
Deleted facebook to make space for link2sd (have no seccond partition)
Installed link2sd,
Moved apps to sd.
Installed facebook on sd,
Go with my root file manager into /data/dalvik-cache/ and deleted everything inside there (50 mb) but after rebooting my phone the memory starts filling itself again and my dalvik cache was full again.
What can i do to make my memory free? Im havin 12 mb free now, but thats not enoug....
And also, is it safe to move apps like calander to sd?
Thanks, domini99

Oow... Damn...
Where does it have to be?
general section, open the new thread there
soon it will be closed
as you are saying you have root then download a2sd froyo root open the app select the data storage as external then you can move almost all apps to external memory but it will also not leave many storage for you I will recommend you to first upgrade to gingerbread then partition your sdcard and use link2sd
First a question: can i go furder from herr or do i have to close this topic? Thanks!

...?!? you have deleted all dalvik-cache?!? First: the data of apps are in system/data/data then you not must touch the dalvik-cache, second: use install manager for move the apps on sdcard and not link2sd, install manager is better, third: you can move only the apps (apk) on sdcard but the data remain on internal memory then also if you install all in sdcard the internal memory it lowers, the only way for move all (apk+data) on sdcard is do a partition, without the partition you not can move also the data but only the apk, then for you now the only way for get more free memory is uninstall all useless apps.

Ooh. Eeerm.... Yeaaah... Well, see. Im not the smartest here...
Oke, i looked into data/data and therr was a lot of junk in from apps i already uninstalled, almost 10 mb! I deleted that and deleted dalvik, than rebooted and now 154 mb free!!!
I installed install manager, but.. What do i need to do with it? Link 2 sd i used to set install location and moved some apps. That did a lot for me. I always wanted a game, but that was 50 mb, and that will never fitt on the internel memory, but it only could on internel, now its on sd, and working great
Thanks for reply, im already helped that far to know how to take care of my memory.
But its still fine if someone can give me some tips, im brand new to root and i understand only 10% of everything....
Thanks

Titanium Backup FTW!!!
So, I used titanium backup to move some things from the internal memory to the sd card. It worked fine as now I have about 20-30 mb free on internal. and this is good.
Also, a 2 Gb sd card is ok, but a larger one would be perfect . I have a 2 Gb now and I'll need a larger one soon ).
Also I uninstalled all useless apps like: Facebook, Twitter etc ) All useless social apps, the park is much better also the school.
That's all I know. Hope it helps u somehow.
I have also internal memory so full (about 20mb free)

If you want keep using your stock rom you can use Doc_cheilvenerdi.org boot.img that can change our sams mount partition /data to sdext. :good:
Meeeh, stock rom sucks and is slow. I prefer cyanogenmod 7.2

Installing applications to SD Card - FroyoBread

I got this doubt.. I was using stock ROM (Android 2.1) and kernel for my X8 and i had app2sd 2.1, when i recently updated to 'latest' FroyoBread.. I had problems with updating, so i removed app2sd, reformated the SD card and it worked.
When i finally moved to FroyoBread, i started installing the applications, and just got stuck! And it said that there are no more space for any more apps.. I used app manager that came with Froyo, to move some apps to SD, but that didn't seem to do the trick.. Reinstalling app2sd didn't also work..
Do i need to setup some other version or there's some catch?
Before installing the apps:
Go to settings/CyanogenMod settings/application/install location/and tic the external option
After installing the apps:
Go to settings/applications/Manage applications/tic SD tab to manage..
widjet apps must install to internal
Thanks for this, was wery helpful
Not to open another thread.. Would anyone know how to make my phone auto capitalize letters after 2 or more dots, question marks etc. When i place only one, the phone will auto capitalize the next letter.. But when i add more it wont...
