is it possible?
I would like to know this too, currently they are shocking.
(from what I found on the web) Apparently the facebook app saves small thumbnails, and they look bad when blown up on hi-res phones.
As a workaround you can try to set a google contact photo manually instead http://www.google.com/contacts.
update: this does not work either so its not just a facebook app issue.
One of my contact pictures is set through the phone via a photo i took with the camera, it still looks ****e. I can't think of any workaround.

yup, contact images set via google contacts show up blurry too
facebook for HTC is using hi res facebook profile picture when synching to contacts..
i switched to sense UI the other day and i found out contact synching with facebook using facebook for HTC not the normal android facebook app.
One of the developers had tried in the past to make the dialer show the contact photo filling the entire screen. Unfortunately Google resizes the images to 96px (if my memory is still working.<EDIT: Memory is working! yay!>) This is a setting we don't have any control over, its something google has set, above and beyond our control.
EDIT: This is the thread where pics are reported to revert back to 96px after they sync with google.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=576310
Then again, I'm not sure if anyone has tried to just call the images locally off the sdcard or something along the lines. (The problem would be, once you lose your phone, all the contact photos would be gone.) No sure if anyone has tried this before, if not, I might take a whack at it.
Man...didn't notice 'til I read this thread...LoL.

I have noticed that syncing contacts with my mac through "missing sync" when I try to add a contact to the "shortcuts list" (the tab "people") tf3d crashes on save.
I think it happens with contacts with a picture added.
no problem if I sync with exchange. the problem is that I am giving up my exhange account in order to keep mobileme and no other mail service.
any suggestion?
You are right, i have the same problem.
This must be a bug in Missing Sync.

I don't think its a bug in missing sync because the pictures load properly in the phone agenda. You can see them when you clic on a contact. Maybe there are stored with a different format or size that is not supported by TF3D.
Anyway this bug is really annoying, and still not fixed in ROM 1.93
A lot of my contacts have a picture, can't add them.
How can we report it to HTC ?
Same here, but ...
I have the same problem , but not for all contacts.
Sync with MAC. I think that the problem with internal pic format the contacts application is compressing the picture. If pic. size is small enough (not too big , let say) everything is OK.\

Today i wanted to test the problem with SyncMate.
But i couldn't get it to work with my Diamond.
Could anybody test it with SyncMate, if there is a Picture-Add-Problem in TF3D too?
I have tested with syncmate and I have the same issue
I get an answer from the MarkSpace-Support:
Hello
We have received reports of this from other customers. I am checking with engineers here and will let you know when I have more information about this issue.

I have the solution!
When you reduce the pixels of your photos in your contacts on the mac to 120x120 pixels, and then use Missing Sync, all will work!
Now you can add your contact to the favorits in TF3D!
is there a way to do this with the mac address book.app ?
i only have this zoom slider for my pictures but no way to actually reduce the size of the picture, do i?
thanks for help

yeah i figured it had to do with the size..i noticed that after i changed the sizes of my contact pix and added them to the diamond, problem solved...but then once i synced with my mac, i noticed it changed the pix some how some way...it added some sort of a black frame around it which caused the crashing...
but is there a way to lower the size without having to add every pic again?
can i just somehow reduce size?
i use this as a template, then i crop the images to fit this, and it works great
Hello.
I've been wondering, why some of the photos which I place in quick contacts (in the touchFLO thing) looks good or bad?
All of those photos which I place there are big and I have no idea why some of them are shown very badly.
Do you know to fix that?
Possible Solution...
Hi there.
I also had this problem. What I found out is, that reloading the picture directly using the TouchFlo Interface (should be: Menu->Change Picture...) helps to improve the quality.
Re
yes, just go to the camera album, and add them to a contact via the option there, then they are perfect, I had the same problem before...
I might be wrong but this is most likely to do with Outlook
I sync my contacts with Outlook and all my pictures but the recent ones had pictures assigned via outlook.
Those few that were assigned by the phone (in contacts) come out very clear and excellent quality
Those assigned in outlook are grainy at best
Outlook compresses (heavily) the pictures so unless there is a way around this, you are better assigning the pictures on your phone
as they said, you have to asigne your pictures threw the htc album, then will then keep all the good quality

If this is the case I reckon it is a crap solution. Wonder if there is a way to tell Outlook not to compress the images so much. Also I notice if you change the photo on the phone side the new photo does not migrate across to Outlook. So if you ever reflash your phone all these changes will be lost.
check out the thread below for solutions on how to add contact pics at better resolutions...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=412202
This is proving to be a real pain. At first when my phone synced with Outlook all the pictures where bad quality, so I placed a new folder in My Pictures called contacts and placed 15 contact pictures of good quality in there to use. I asigned each picture to the contacts and all looked great.
Next day I sync my phone and all the pics are imported from outlook again and look ****. Sooooo, I change them all back again with my contact pictures and change the sync settings to "replace items on desktop". Trouble is now, those 15 contacts will not sync at all and I get an error.
something wich manages high resolution photos?
i used syncmypix on old phones, wich seems stopped to be supported on october 2012, and i don't know wich resolution syncs..
i have read of haxsync, but seems it has to be always active... isn't there something wich syncs with gmail, then you can delete it?
i couldn't see, but doesn't xperia z dialer support big picture ? do i need to use full screen caller or hd caller (whatever the name is, i bought it some time ago)
The starred in Android contacts on my Gmail account syncs in HD all the others in SD.... WEIRD!!!! They have to fix it ASAP!

doesn't it sync "on the fly"? meaning, the sync remains if i delete haxsync? i've read it drains quite a bit of battery... and do pics appear large in dialer?
use this app called UberSync Facebook contact sync
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ro.weednet.contactssync
It allows you to sync the recent profile picture from your friend's profile and you can change the size of the picture to small, medium, large. My Arc S shows full screen when I get a call from my friends  just set the photo size to large. Also the app can be set to auto sync or you can manually sync. No worries about battery drain!
Press thanks if I helped

I am using the Sync.ME application from Google Play Store. It's kinda awesome. It is able to find some pictures from social networks like fb even to a contacts that haven't shared friends details with me

i'm trying this for know, do you know if there will be a notification at the end? cause i started sync, but didn't show me any status bar o countdown or percentage, it just said "sync started", how can i now if it will finish?
@alfiabaram, i'm going to try that too thanks
Oops! I forgot to mention this - you need to rename the contact to their Facebook name (be very specific about the first & last name) then it will fetch their assign their picture to the contact. Use ' run manual scan' option. There's no notification after the scan is finished >.<

ok i've tried with it, but it isn't so "ergonomic", no notifies, no info, and i couldn't make manual links to facebook profile.... and when i tried to delete it, i've lost all my pix
would like to try sync.me but yesterday developers put it out of the market cause it has to be rewritten (or similar)
now i've tried facebook contact picture sync by sbla games
it has anything i need seems, it has manual link (you can save and load links) for people with different names
it syncs then you can delete the app, it takes big photos, and is quite fast (you can "assist the process) so i think for anyone who doesn't need repeated syncs (don't know if it handles it, didn't search)
btw thanks for your help
it seems quite good
Go to Gmail Contacts and put HD pictures to your contacts, then put the contacts you use the most to the favourites (starred in Android) let it sync with Google and finally clear the cache and data from your "contacts" app, then sync again with google your contacts again and the starred contacts will sync in HD!

Just did this and everything worked out Thanks ... though there should be a fix from Google ... silly Google.
Guys, in 4.2.2 update they fixed it, now all the contacts are synced in HD, you have to open each contact once though to force it to download the full picture.
Sync.me
Is anyone else having issues with Sync.me sending out spam to contacts when syncing?
Ubersync for FB doesn't work anymore, anyone know of another app to sync FB contact pics?
Hi All,
Setup my device last night, and a while ago, I started creating all my phone contacts as google ones, so that on restore, or setting up a new device, syncing my google account would bring all my numbers down.
However I noticed something a little bit strange. Some of my contacts appear to have their pictures there, and look fine in the small thumbnail in the people app, but when opening up the picture, it has a strange dot filter applied to it.
I use HaxSync to add facebook pictures as my google contact pictures, and when viewing them from a web browser they are fine. Doesnt seem to happen to all, just a few.
Anyone encountered this too? Any ideas about how to get around it? Seems very odd
Regards
Jonny
Update, well there was definitely something strange going on, and I haven't figured it out, but as a work around, in gmail (on a PC) I exported all my contacts to a google file. This neglects to export images that are on the contacts.
I then deleted all my contacts and synced my phone up, basically removing all contacts, and removed HaxSync. I then imported my saved contacts and instead of using a third party app to get high resolution photos for contacts, I did a contacts sync from the facebook app direct.
The images pulled still seem to be of decent clarity so maybe its something to do with the way the phone (or contacts app) parses images that are embedded into your google contacts.
I actually remember reading in a review about this filter too - trying to find it, but not that important now really.
Anyway. If anyone figures out why it does it then that would be good, and probably helpful to others at some point
JP
From my understading HTC have been quite clever
Google contacts as a general rule of thumb (pardon the pun) use small thumbnails. Only recently have they started using higher quality thumbnails for contacts. Anyway, if the image is of low quality instead of it being pixelated and looking like sh*t, they basically add the dot matrix filter to make it look a bit more professional. To be fair, hats off to HTC it works and they are the first people i've seen attempt such a thing.
The secret is to get gmail contacts all high res, the problem is i am still struggling on just how to do that, seemed to work fine on my nexus but it varies from one device to another, pain in the arse in all honesty.
Ah that seems to make sense. That would explain why it would happen on only a few specific pictures.
The Facebook contact sync still seems to be working well, and there are only a few that have the filter now. I might go and double check to if those that are filtered have low resolution pictures on their Facebook account.

i had that and i cured it by editing the picture in the contact .

That is OK and definitely solve the problem. But to do it contact by contact having 1400 people in register and approx half of them are pictured, then it may be be time consuming process Interestingly I have not had this problem with my recently purchased xperia Z. Would be fine to solve it with an updated patch.
Hello to you all sir .I just got my Xperia Z1 (6903) yesterday. Everything work just as I wanted but something weird happen . Some of my contact that I sync with Xperia facebook app seem to work fine I mean they have half-full screen picture when I call them but about half of them don't.It have very good quality picture but the picture of them are in square middle of the outgoing call screen . Does anyone having the same issue as mine ?
Solution that I try
1. Link between facebook app and Xperia facebook
2. Unlink between facebook app and Xperia facebook

I have removed xperia facebook plugins, so i am not sure, but i guess would be that the sony contact app, if the address book is sync' ed with google AND with facebook, gives priority to the facebook profile image or maybe to the one with the higher resolution?
all I know is what happened to me:
- I buy the phone and sync with google: all low-res pics
- I spend 1h assigning new high res pic on the phone: all goes well for months
- I install a new version of the ROM and since I root I reset all data, so I sync again with google: all pictures in low res, although all are the newer ones I assigned at the step above
- I assign ahigh res pictures to my wife from the phone: ok
- I go to google contacts on the web and assign from there a new picture: low res

I confirm the following, after a further test...
- I open on the phone a contact with low res pic and I assign a high res pic: the pic is sync'ed with google contact and on the phone remain in high res
- I open on google contact the same contact and i assign a high res pic form my pc: the pic is sync'ed with phone and becomes low res
