...It's pretty much been over half a year since I needed to root my phone again, but I just received a brand new one from tmob.
SO. I did the root deal, that went super smooth, I have JF1.51 CRB43 ADP to start with.
NOW, I am trying to update the radio, and it does not seem to be working. From what I remember and what I've read, all you do is flash it like you would any rom, rename to update.zip and recov alt+s, right? Well, when I check the radio version it still says the original, not what I flashed. So I re-downloaded and tried again, no luck.
....feel like a real idiot here haha, never had it not work before. Tried searching but I had no luck finding the solution. By all means if you have a link and this was a pointless post just tell me, else I just need some help!
which recovery image do you have installed

If your using Cyanogen's recovery, try to physically press the alt-s, and home + back to reboot
I believe it works like that for flashing the IPL (radio) and SPL
where did you get the radio from?
Sorry I left out the recov info, I know my signature is misleading...didn't change it yet..!
I'm using JF 1.43 recov, I remember that (not sure if it was ever fixed, all I know is that flashing the SPL with CM recov caused 'error at line ___' when flashing new roms) that you cannot flash the new SPL with cyanogen recovery, so I'm using JF's until I get the radio and spl flashed correctly.
I got the radio from where I usually have in the past, as well as the new SPL
http://sapphire-port-dream.googlecode.com/files/
(Of course I will not flash the latest SPL until the newest radio is flashed first!)
I just want my happy CM 3.9.7 back..! With the ability to flash the new hero roms when I get curious..
****I am now attempting to flash the radio with cm recov 1.4, will update on this if it works.
****no luck with cm either, didn't think it would make a difference but thought I would give it a shot. I still have 1.22.12.29 for my radio :/ agh!
So...Still can't update the radio for whatever reason, just does not take, and I still can't find anything in the forums about this either... :/ Anyone have any ideas at all?
get the radio from the htc website maybe you got a bad download. i have flashed radio and new spl with cyanogens recovery so i know it will do it. after flashing the radio press home and back to reboot. do not reboot from the recovery console because i have noticed that it will not write the image.

Thanks for the link ^-^ I will give it a shot. Good to her that the CM recov flashes the new SPL alright now..! I will post results...every time I flash it goes through the motions of writing the radio but just never shows that I have the new one..super frustrating.
** I also notice that whenever I have tried to flash the radio on the new phone, when I reboot it goes through the appropriate motions, yes, however it puts me back into recovery every time. I wonder if I should just completely start over (unroot, re-root) hope thats not the case..I just got it all set back up again :/
Nope, no matter where I download from and how many times I flash with different recoveries.. I still have the original radio 1.22.12.29 :/
This has always been so easy! I've never had issues with rooting, then updating the radio, then updating to the new SPL.. :/

Yeah, I was hoping to not have to but I will in a bit here if I still can't figure it out. I have root just fine, running CM 3.9.9.1 even, which I usually only run his roms, however I do like to try the Hero roms as well as they come out..
bummer :/

I don't know why its not updating your radio, but everything else works fine. You should update the radio before updating to cupcake builds. maybe that will help?
gave up for a while, finally re-rooted
Re-rooted and still cannot update my radio, I have tried updating it after the very first rooting steps, after updating to JF RC33 as well, I still can't get the latest radio to get onto my phone. I have tried with JF recovery, CM recovery, as well as the original recovery image, and nothing. Notta. Zip. No idea why my phone simply will not take the new radio image.. I have re-downloaded it a million times as well, going in circles..don't get why the phone will let me root, unroot, all that jazz, and simply will not let me update the radio... driving me nuts!! I can use CM roms just fine of course but any other roms I am stuck with not trying cause of this annoyance!! Anything anyone can recommend would be great
o man still can't get it to work?
try flashing the official 1.5 OTA update, which contains the updated radio. see if it gives you an error message. if it does, take it to tmobile and tell them to replace your phone.
if it flashes...see if it updated your radio. if it did, you can use the one click root to root your phone
Thanks again buddy, I will try it out ^^
So, I unrooted, and applied the OTA updates from 29 to 30, 30 to 33, 33 to cupcake..and I still don't have the latest radio, still at 1.22.12.29. I got the ota cupcake here:
https://android.clients.google.com/updates/partner/signed-kila-ota-150275.53dde318.zip
i'm going to try flashing the ota radio update without root if it will let me..grr..this is so weird, there is no reason why it shouldn't take a simple radio update..hrm
***attempted the ota radio update, guess you can't without root which is what I figured, but frick, this makes no sense.. >>
so, this is a bit odd, at http://developer.htc.com/adp.html, one of the spots to DL the latest radio, when you hover over the radio link for 1.5 and 1.6, it says "ota-radio-1_22_14_11.zip" rather than "ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip", weird, eh? Wonder if it's simply not the right radio, and labeled wrong, I have no idea, but this is getting super old.
I'm actually having the same problem, can't seem to update the radio with the radio image the htc site provides. It's still stuck at 1.22.12.29
Anyone had this before? Any help would be appreciated
I can't get around it, and it's really frustrating, since the only rom I can use is a CM build..aside from a couple others, but CM is the best as far as universal SPL use goes..
So what I've tried so far:
- Updated to HardSPL
- Tried multiple Radio updates, new ones, old ones, even some from the forums.
- Tried a few complete updates that include the radio image
- Tried flashing directly from fastboot, not sure what partition I need to flash though, the radio partition gives me an error that it does not exist.
Still no go. The weird thing is that I come from a stock 1.5 installation updated from 1.0 via t-mobile. And I'm still at the original 1.0 radio image.
I've been flipping through the threads to find out how I'm suppose to update the radio and still can't find anything.. Maybe it's because I'm an extreme noob when it comes to forums and software. Can anyone point me to the right direction?
P.S. What does updating the radio do? I've been curious about it since it seems like a plus to keep it up to date.
I have been looking for a how to for updating the radio. My main concern is that since I got the official OTA update, then rooted with Superboot, then installed Modaco's Desire rom will updating the radio as is brick my phone?
In one of these threads there will be a radio update.zip (check cyanogens thread, i think he hosts the latest radio on his forum)
before you put the radio on your phone, check the md5. If you are on linux, use furious ISO mount, if on windows, look it up on google how to.
Place the radio on your SD card ./ folder, then boot into recovery
Make sure you have plenty of battery, or are plugged in and charging.
Flash the radio from recovery and wait.
Alternatively you can place the radio.img (either downloaded by itself or take it out of the update.zip.) in your /sdk/tools folder and type "fastboot flash radio radio.img"
The very first stickied thread in the Development forum is called "Roms - Kernels - Radios *Links*" and it has links to .zip files that install from a hacked recovery. The Radio links are in the third post. Just use one of those.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654869
If your recovery isn't hacked, you could just unzip one of those files and pull out the radio.img file, which you can then flash with fastboot.
I have been trying to flash my Nexus one with a the new cyanogenmod 6.0 RC 2 ROM but for some reason doesn't work, and I have updated my Nexus one with the newest radio img, wipe the phone before loading the ROM and everything else but it still will not boot up. The boot animation always freezes up and get stuck in a loop. I have never had trouble flashing ROMs on my Nexus one until this one so i don't know what the problem could be so I was hoping some one here could, help me figure out what the problem could be.
Check the MD5 sum of your download file.
I'm sorry I'm still new to a lot of this stuff, what does MD5 mean.

Google it, you'd need the files necessary to check anyways.
I've heard somewhere that Cyanogen's ROMs don't like new HBOOT 0.35.0017. And i think you got it (new HBOOT) after you updated radio. Here is the instruction how to revert HBOOT to previous version http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726258
Hi all.
I had recently flashed cm6 rc2 without the radio via rom manager comming straight from froyo. While using the ROM today, I noticed a lot of processes crashed all at once including acore.
When I rebooted, I was stuck in a boot loop. I wiped stuff and did a nandroid restore to get back to my stock froyo, just fine.
Was it the radio that caused it (edit: seems like rom manager may have snuck it in). Since I flashed cm6 from ROM manager, I thought it would prompt me if I needed the radio. What went wrong?
The radio on the first post of the CM6 RC2 thread is the required radio and must be flashed separately if you are not already using that radio. If you are on stock froyo you most likely are.
Radio Firmware: 4.0.6.00.12_7 (FROYO RADIO, REQUIRED!)
Check this by going to: Settings - About Phone - Baseband version
If you are not on the correct radio you can flash by downloading the zip on the first page of the CM thread.

If you update again try wiping and a reboot into the mod before your nand restore. Some common issues/fixes are in the link below.

Good luck to you.
Please read the instructions next time instead of posting a new topic.
Edit: Actually, after reading your other post, I'd say, stop what you're doing, reflash to stock, and please don't do anything more. I can see you'll be a headache for all the other users in the future as you refuse to read first then ask questions. Everything you need to know is in the first post of the CM6 RC2 thread and the wiki that is linked within that post. If you can't handle that much, please do us all a favor and don't flash custom roms.
I'm waiting for the "My phone iz bricked now" thread to arise...In the right forum next time I hope!
It's lame topics like this that get budding roms pushed to the back of the list.
chesh is right though, you need to learn by reading first. The search button is your friend.

Mind you. I read those instructions 1 million times. I chose not to flash it because a website said you only need it if you are comming from froyo. I had also seen a video of someone running cm6 without the radio. So I thought I was fine

So are you saying that the 4.0.6.00.12_7 is the radio needed to use cm6 or does it mean I need to flash the radio

4.0.6.00.12_7 is the Froyo radio that is required for using CM6 or Froyo roms. Froyo will work with the earlier radio, but you'll have issues with camera, video camera, MMS, SMS, and a whole slew of other things. There is another radio floating about that's from the Korean version of the Nexus Ones, and has a higher version then the initial Froyo radio, but at this time, doesn't seem to change anything. So, the way you check which radio you already have (as most Froyo roms don't come with the radio, you're required to flash it on your own) is to go into Settings -> About Phone and check what version of the radio you have listed in there. If it is anything other then the above version, then flash the above version.
Follow this guide to the "T" and you won't have any issues. And, BTW: this guide is linked in Cyanogen's original post in the CM6 RC2 thread. (Please visit the CyanogenMod Wiki for step-by-step installation walkthroughs and tons of other useful information.) http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Full_Update_Guide_-_Nexus_One
Strangely enough, i have that radio even though i didn't flash it. is it possible it came from rom manager when i installed cm6 or could it have been there when i got froyo

turns out i have the radio, even though i didnt flash it (unless its not the baseband you mean) i think rom manager snuck it in- could this be possible
if you flashed froyo previously then the radio got updated with that full ROM.
one more thing, for some reason the clockwork recovery keeps dissapearing. it changes to an exclamation mark in a white triangle with a mini green android. it just dosent like me!
Once again, see my previous post where I linked you to the Cyanogen Wiki with complete, step-by-step instructions of how to install all of this manually. I would suggest the manual route, as it seems you need the practice with the commands.

what im saying is that every recovery image i use disappears after i have been in the recovery image more than once Even Amon ra's recovery!
Which means you haven't done some part of the process right. I remember hearing about this once before. Just start from the very beginning of those instructions (including unlocking bootloader). Not going to harm anything if it's already been done.

Are you sure. I searched slot and I didn't find anything about recovery images reseting. I am in need of help.
One thing about the rooting process, all I did was unlock the bootloader and install su permissions. It's hard to find detailed and I mean detailed instructions on rooting a nexus one and installing a recovery image.
do a wipe
i did everything again except unlock the bootloader again because i am not sure of the result of that if you have already done it. do you think a factory restore would do the trick in setting or do i need to http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Opera...-Nexus-One-to-shipping-Rom/m-p/292051#U292051
Did you do all the steps in the Cyanogen wiki that I linked you, exactly as they were? Because, if you did, you wouldn't still be having a problem. See, this is what I'm saying, you keep on posting, but you don't want to follow any instructions. Why don't you follow that t-mobile guide, and give up on installing custom roms.
And, are you saying this isn't detailed enough?? http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Full_Update_Guide_-_Nexus_One

I mean, I found all of those in the last 45 seconds. Come on man. You obviously just can't follow instructions. What you need is the 5yr old from down the block that keeps beating your a$$ at MW2 to do it for you.
why dont you post a video showing exactly what happens. show it booting into recovery, then trying again and recovery disappearing.
Would just let everyone know I fixed it. I've been reading alot and now allmost fully understand the rooting and flashing side of android. Sorry for this noobish post. Will never happen again

I fixed it differently from how you said I should do it even though I tried to do what you said.
Also. I OWN at WW2... you have no idea. Being cocky doesn't fix anything.
Also I know how it feels when there is a new generation of android hackers joining the community. I was with the iphone hacking community from the start. I miss the days when hacking was harder. Don't start saying I can't follow instructions on the rooting process because it was a nandroid restore that stuffed everything up. I rerooted twice just to make sure.
I hate being taken as a noob. Everyone starts somewhere.

Can some explain to me, what is MD5 when working with Nandroid. In the last month all of a sudden I can't flash my backups (5 different roms) anymore.
I keep getting the following message: MD5 mismatch.
Running ClockworkMod 2.5.0.1, I know I should update but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Course it's broke now.
I do change the names of backups so I know which rom is which & I do reformat the date.
Nothing on the phone has changed, radio's the same, etc. Only thing I do is flash different roms. Last 1 was BeatMod's Gingerbread. Wanted to go back to HTCClay's Superfast 1.3RU, for the speed, but got the MD5 mismatch message, which comes up no matter which backup I try to reinstall.
What's going on ?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Been looking all over but can find no references pertaining to MD5. Can someone please enlighten me.
Thanks
Never mind, found a pretty informative page if anyone else is interested.
