There are a few different versions rolling around - and I just flashed to the latest stable 5.0.5.3... the one i dloaded was the EPE54B, and I believe my phone version was ERE79.
thx much
Yes it does matter, however, the EPE54B that you downloaded is the correct one to use with the latest Cyanogen 5.0.5.3
could anyone please explain what those gapps_passion packs contain?

It's the google apps. Maps, Gmail, etc. Legally they aren't supposed to be included in third party roms, as they include google apps that are not open source.

Hi
I flashed SenseHero 2.2 ROM which is a pretty good Android 2.1 flash. Unfortunately, it comes without Google Maps and native HTC PDF viewer. Where can I get this apps from? I could not get any answer on SenseHero forums.
Thanks.
You can download Maps from the market.
Also running SenseHero

Thanks for the apk but I get "Application not installed" error even though I enabled unknown sources in application settings.
It's strange I can find Google Maps on Androlib site but it does not appear in Market search. Does Google restrict application based on client country?

Yes some countries do not get all apps. But there is something called Market Enabler,... Have a look for that.
And try these again for PDFViewer,... Put both in the same folder and then try to install again.
Let me know how it goes.

The new files give me the same error. I also tried to install Market enabler and its apk cannot be installed either. Seems like the project is outdated, the authors say they don't support the latest Market version.
I followed these instruction: http://strazzere.com/blog/?tag=pdfviewerapk which say additional libraries should be installed. After I put the libraries in the right place the application installed OK but it won't start. So I guess I will be needing the correct PDFViewer version (for Android 2.1). If anyone has it, please...
Is it possible to pull apps from a newer rom on the magic (say a customer 1.6/2.0 rom) to a older more stable from (1.5 in my case)?
I would like to replace the browser and gallery apps, as well as add the vpn service or add spare parts.
Some apps install via a file manager (using the apk files) and others just say this cannot be installed on this phone.
i dont think thats possible!!

Technically yes.. but will it work? not really. Many of these new apps use new library files not compatible and not available on older rom.

Thanks, Shame really.
I'm getting fantastic battery life, on a old 1.5 custom rom, but there are so many handy and much needed apps included in other roms which aren't on the marketplace and wont install on 1.5.
Google Apps
aka gapps are the android applications written and maintained by Google Inc.
This software for Android is closed-source (so devs don't like include them in their own roms).
What's the latest version?
The latest version is: 20101020 (20th oct).
New update: mdpi-20101225 (GingerBread supported) thanks arco68
Which version of Android OS are 'em written for?
GApps follow the android upgrades, latest versions are written for Android 2.2 (Froyo).
If you run Android 2.1 (Eclair), you should install ERE36B; previous versions (1.5/1.6) can run this: DRC83 (Must be flashed before the ROM). NOT TESTED YET
After installing ERE36B or DRC83 you should be able to update some app (like maps) from the market.
If you have a donut/eclair rooted phone, google could send you a market update (vers. 2007) remove update from "settings" because it's a froyo version and will never work fine.
Why mdpi?
There are 3 kind of density: high (hdpi, like passion), medium (like Dream/Sapphire) and low (our phone).
Sadly doesn't exist a ldpi pack, but mdpi should works fine..
Where is the Android Market? Is it patched?
The Android Market (Vending.apk) is as it comes from BigG, not a patched version.
How to install?
1)Download this package:

maybe a good idea, cos it is my experience that many people, from this or that reason finds older versions, or particular version of much more use then the current/most updated once (F.E. I remember reading that a number of users found "ChromeToPhone working & useful). Just imagine how much android market would be enhanced if you would be offered a choice of what version of app. you want, not only the newest one...
with hope that this thread could evolve into something...Great?
Best Regards

I flashed these apps and now my market doesn't work anymore.
I can search for apps, view their description, but download/update does not start.
Progressbar appears and after a minute, "download unsuccessful" appears..
I use SPQRom 0.5 and market did work before I flash these gapps.
Any Help?
Still no gapps

FYI, Google market is based on a carriers, phones and countries that you were residing at. So, some of the google apps is not available for certain countries.
As a solution, we need to download the 'missing' apps manually rather than through our phone/tablet.
There's a lot of site offering these kind of apk.
This site here offer complete list of google apps with periodically update..
or just flash this gapps-gb-full-20110815-signed.zip

read somewhere that google didn't allow CM7 to include all program that propietary of google, so that why you shouldn't have any google program on CM7 CMIIW.
Flash gapps at link above. that should've solve your problem
I installed the latest nightly from last night (CM9 12-12-12), the Gapps package from 4-29-12, and the Gapps fixer. I have things like Play store, GTalk, and Voice Dialer, bot no GMail, Maps, Youtube, etc. Am I supposed to have those too? I keep searching and it's not easy to find a list that I know specifically pertains to the TouchPad's CM9 implementation.

But download what, exactly? I'm only thinking of those off the top of my head but I know that there are a lot more. The problem is, I need a list if I'm going to do that as a work-around and so that's partially what I'm asking for (that or help getting the Gapps package to install completely). The Gapps fix does nothing no matter what I wipe or what order I flash.
I checked with my brother and he did not download those from the market/Play store on his touchpad. Neither did I, and I was the one who put Goo manager on it. I'm trying to set this up for a coworker with all the apps as if it were the first time ever turned on and I don't want my account loaded on it.
I already knew I could download individual apps from the market. Thanks for your help though.

Those apps aren't included in the ics gapps. If you open up the zip file and look in the /system/app folder you'll see what apks are included in the gapps package.

i have cm9 (latest nightlys) and cm10 (latest nightlys) .. IIRC they both are 1212 builds..
for cm9 i had to install 0429 gapps..
for cm10 i used the JB gapps but i dont exactly remr the build date or name..
good probabilities that it was 4.1
im pretty sure that both roms require separate installs of gapps..because no gapps are built in

I dont get what you are looking for. If you have the Play store and were able to sign into your account then you have everything the Gapps offer. Gapps are mainly Google services that let you sign into your Gmail account, sync your Gmail account, Use the Play store, etc. There are some apps within the Gapps file which are system apps but like others have said, everything else you mentioned is in the play store. Gapps don't include those apps.
