HTC_IME Keyboard - Droid Eris Themes and Apps

Is it possible to use this mod on the Eris? There is a low res version, which I assume is compatible with our screens; however, I'm terrified of bricking the phone, and I'm not sure if flashing something like this would do so.
Also, to install I would restart in recovery and flash the zip, correct? I encourage everyone to check it out. Even if the current version won't work on the Eris, it would be worth it to port over. The stock keyboard is severely lacking.

I'm curious about this too. I tried to install and it just said, "Not installed"? Can we get this working on the Eris?

well it works
**EDIT**
This keyboard will only work on deodexed roms, consult your devs initial post to see if deodexing was part of their build.
i downloaded and followed the directions per this post...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655383&page=3
really sweet keyboard tons of features, they said they were having issues with the voice search ect but it works on eris...
just a quick run down...
go to the above post...
1. download the LOW RES in the first post...
2. extract zip to your sdk tools folder
3. open your command window get to your tools directory and apply the following commands...
adb remount
adb push Clicker.apk /system/app/
adb push HTC_IME.apk /system/app/
then reboot
**edit**
i could not push the .htcime but be sure to include in the root of your sd card...i just used astro...enjoy.
then reboot
note I take no responsibility if your nuke your phone, this keyboard will replace your oem one...

I keep trying to install the files, and it keeps giving me a not installed error. Not sure what i'm doing wrong, but either installing the files right to my SD card, or trying to load these files using adb isn't working.

how?
I copied the clicker.apk and the HTC_IME.API to system\app using root explorer and have the other file on root of SD card and it erased my keyboard all together. I'm using the sense able. 7 Rom

try...
did u open a msg app, long press a txt box and see a box called input method? if not do so and select touch input. it should load it right up if it was properly installed, im running ivans .7....so idk if that makes a difference...

Yeah. There is no keyboard installed to select. Long press does nothing in a text field, and in the settings menu, there is no keyboard to select

Did you...
Check the system\app folder to see if it were present? i would suggest doing it via adb via the instructions above as it worked perfectly for me try giving that a go...oh did you reboot after you moved the files with your file explorer?

How would an non-root go about doing this??

got it sorted...
ok here's why its not working for you... ivans .7 is deodexed, the keyboard didnt include an odex so it works only for deodexed roms, where as the rom u are using isnt.
i flashed it to test and confirm it myself would not load on an odexed rom. we could probably get ahold of the dev or the odex and get it sorted...neway that i believe is the why of it.

does this have to be ran through adb? would it be possible to just run everything manually using astro? im very interested in using this keyboard

Im sure you can...
I'm sure you can use a file explorer or something. I just prefer adb as it seems quicker and more "complete" to me give it a try...just make sure ur using a deodexed rom like ivans .7 as the odexed roms will not recognize it.

Odexed Roms
Does anybody know how to get this to work on odexed roms? I am using the Sense Able ROM and it won't work.

Doesn't work on evil Eris 1.1 just force closes.

i pm'd the dev and requested the original file including the odex, hopefully one of ours can work their magic and port it to the odexed roms...for those running the deodexed rom I think ivans .7 it works well...any of the deodexed eris builds actually should work.

I take it that this keyboard would not be functional with Swype?

g1 button remap for global search?

With the latest release of cyanogens update I started using the global search which I really love but unfortunately htc didn't give us a search button like the mytouch 3g has, I also find that I don't use the camera button at all so is it possible to remap the camera button to function as a quick launch for the global search like we can remap the end key?
I was wondering the same thing.
I have been looking at the filesystem & the /system/usr folder contains the folders "keylayout" and "keychars".
Inside the keylayout folder are several .kl (presumably .kl stands for key layout) files. If you edit them you should be able to change what ANY key on the device does, in theory anyway.
The qwerty.kl & trout-keypad.kl files appear to be the same unless I am missing something. They seem to be the layout files for normal US Dream devices. There is also trout-qwertz.kl which seems to be for the French QWERTZ key layout. I don't know how the trout-keypad-v2.kl & the trout-keypad-v3.kl are different from the traditional trout-keypad files, however you can look at that yourself.
I am looking at the trout-keypad.kl file for my ADP1 and am kinda struggling with a few of the keys. Obviously all I believe you have to do is change the line:
"key 212 CAMERA" to "key 212 SEARCH"
The SEARCH label is typically mapped to key 127.
However, I am at a loss as to what key 211 could possibly be, it is labeled as FOCUS, could it be when you press the camera key halfway down to focus in the camera app & key 212 be fully pressed?
I will do a little exploring & I will post back with my test results when I push the file to /system/usr/keylayout on my device later. Since they are just files I don't believe that you need to resign an update that contains them, you should be able to just push them to the device.
If it works I will upload the modded file here.
EDIT 1: You should also be able to add the tag WAKE in the next column over (where the other WAKE or WAKE_DROPPED tags are) if you want that key to wake the device.
Yeah I saw those files but can't do anything with them atm since I'm out and about but I assumed that they pertained to the slideout keyboard only so Ill look at them when I'm home.
They appear to be for ALL keys on the device, there are also some for BT headsets.
I updated all of the files with the camera & focus keys mapped to search, however it accomplished nothing. It still launches camera. I am running the JACxROM, but I am gunna try it with my old CM 3.6.8.1 build (which I preferred over JACxROM anyway). I'll post back later.

I was wondering if u edited the zip file then flashed it. Maybe that might help. I was thinking of doing something like this for myself but wasnt sure where to start
All I did as of yet was change the files, push them, and reboot. I am in the process of making an update and flashing it. Also, it didn't work with the first method on the CM build. The update I am signing will be based on the CM build.
One thing I also don't understand, is the *.kcm.bin files in the keychars folder. When I open them in a hex editor I cant understand them, are they encrypted, do they need unpacked, am I just an idiot??
EDIT: I'm an idiot. Just pushing the files doesn't work. For whatever the odd reason, it seems you have to package them in an update.zip file & sign them. It works great now. You can either push the button halfway down (FOCUS) and it will pop up, or push it all the way down (CAMERA) and it will pop up.
I can't upload the whole CM update (don't have the bandwith) but I will try to make an update.zip that contains just the new files (kinda like a theme update.zip file) and upload it.
Ok. I can't figure out how to make a plain update.zip with the files needed.
I put them in an update.zip file containing two directory trees:
META-INF/com/google/android/ which contains update-script (my custom one for this)
and
system/usr/ which contains all of the .kl files that needed modified.
My update-script file is as follows:
copy_dir PACKAGE:system SYSTEM:
What am I doing wrong? Whenever I try to flash the update I get an error that says "Syntax error in update script". I'm using the same convention used in theme update-script files. What should I do?
PS: The update is being signed, I'm not that stupid

Cool I can't wait for this. If all goes well I can remove the search widget to free up space and memory. U should drop this by cyanogen so he can include it in the next update. I'm sure this would go great with the global search once the bugs r worked out of it.
Well since I can't figure out the stand-alone update.zip here are the plain files so that you can just add them to /system/usr in your update.zip of choice and re-sign it. I have PMd Cyanogen about this and will see what he says.
Glad I could help guys!
EDIT: Words of caution. I am not responsible if you screw up with this. Also, if you just press the camera button it will bring up the search box, but if you hold the camera button it brings up Voice SEARCH (not voice dial)
EDIT 2: I've added two new versions. The "keyboard_mod_cam-norm_focus-search.zip" file makes it so if you press camera completely down then it still opens camera, but if you just press it halfway down (to focus mode) it brings up search. Holding it at halfway still brings up voice search *see edit three*.
The "keyboard_mod_cam-search_focus-norm.zip" file makes it the opposite. Pressing all the way down opens search, pressing halfway down still focuses if you are in the camera app. Holding it all the way down still brings up voice search *see edit three*.
And of course the original file stays the same. Either position brings up search and holding still brings up voice search *see edit three* from any position.
EDIT 3: OK, it seems that voice search is only activated on a long press on CM 3.6.8.1! If you are using the latest (CM 3.9.11.2) it does NOT activate voice search anymore.
Can't you just use the original update and replace what you need in there?
Ok whoa you work fast but thanks for it! Hopefully cyanogen considers adding a setting for it, thanks so much!

Yea thats exactly what I had to do to make it work, just replace the files in the original update and re-sign it then flash it. You can use any of the versions I posted to replace the files and it will work for you too.
And no problem. I haven't gotten a reply from Cyan yet but I did PM him.
Thanks for the compliment btw lol.
Ha ha well great job! Can't wait to get home and flash with this in it =D.
worked great thanx! i used ADB File Explorer v0.3 by makethetick makes pushing and pulling apk's a brezze no need to remember commands! if anyone would like to try it head over here, its the the op a few headers down

Hmm. It worked for you by pushing? I couldnt make it work that way, I had to flash a custom update that I put the files in. Did you do anything extra? Change permissions? Did you reboot? Check if it still works after a reboot, because mine didnt.
its still working after at least 4 reboots. did u pull out the stock files b4 u pushed it? in the abd file explorer i deleted the stock then just pushed from there. as of now this is my 5th reboot (once i find a setting i like i get update my nandroid). if u need to drop my a line faster than the forum check my signature for my gmail
Using the JacHero 2.1 which has camera key remapped to search. Don't seem to be able to reassign to camera - what's the keycode for the G1's camera button? Thought it was 211 (focus) 212 (take piccy).
Oh I should probably say hi - first post lol. I'm a bit n00bish but I have successfully reflashed this G1 5 or 6 times with different roms and haven't asked loads of questions without reading instructions - but can't figure this camera issue out. Cheers

[Q] Better Keyboard

So I just installed better keyboard and I went to enable it and Im getting a message that says "This input method may be able to collect all the text you type, including personal data like passwords and credit card numbers. It comes from the application Better Keyboards. Use this input method?"
Should this be something I should be worried about?
No. That is the standard Android warning when installing any keyboard.
Anyone know if Swype is working on here yet?
Can't get alternate keyboard to enable
After I get an alternate keyboard installed, I can't get the checkbox to enable. I get the warning described above but then the keyboard doesn't enable and doesn't appear as a choice when you do the long press and select input method.
I have the same problem with an IME for pen reader. the main justifyer for me to purchase this tablet was to take notes at work but I can't get teh app to work... I am just waiting for 3.0 and hoping that it will evolve...

I was able to get SlideIt to work by installing it and then copying the apk file from /data/app and pasting it in /system/app. Then make sure to Mount R/W in the system folder and change permissions of the copied apk so that User is read/write and Group, Others is read only. Mount R/O. Now reboot. It should work now.
I am using TnT 2.2. There shouldn't be any need to enable it in the settings either. It will act like a system keyboard and will always be enabled. All you have to do is change input method by long tapping on a text box and selecting the newly installed keyboard.
I have tried this with a couple of other keyboards and it didn't work. Swype just says that it won't work with the screen size of the device.
I read this in another thread somewhere here. I can't take credit for this. Hope this helps.

From what I can tell, ES File Explorer can't see stuff in /data unless it is started AFTER the phone is rooted. Maybe the same goes for iFileManager.
So what I do is use z4root to get temporary root, kill ES File Explorer, then start ES File Explorer again. Then it can see /data.
Hope that this helps.

Get CM 6/7 lockscreen on Sense ROM

like some i'm fond of the Sense UI, but not the slide-down lockscreen.
I prefer the CM lockscreen also known as the vanilla stock lockscreen, which consists of you sliding left or right to mute or unlock your phone.
Well after i managed to do some searching and reading up, i found that the Sense ROM contains the vanilla stock lockscreen, but overrides it with an apk of their own lockscreen.
follow these easy instructions to switch back and forth if you like...
**MUST BE ROOTED!!**
1. FIRST do a nandroid backup of your phone. (always a safe practice when changing anything on your phone)
2. go into Partitions -> and unmount your /System/
3. connect your phone to your PC via USB
4. go into your android SDK windows directory
(default) C:\android-sdk-windows\tools\
5. type "adb devices" (minus quotation marks) and make sure your phone is recognized and listed in the output
6. type "adb shell"
7. type "mv /system/app/HtcLockScreen.apk /system/app/HtcLockScreen.bak"
8. type "exit"
9. type "adb reboot", and unplug your phone from the USB
and enjoy.
simply...you just renamed HTC Sense's lockscreen app. since the Sense UI can't find it, it goes back to the default vanilla stock lockscreen. if you want it, just simply nandroid restore or follow the instructions again and rename HtcLockScreen.bak to HtcLockScreen.apk
***
only BUG i've found in using this method is if you use the HTC Sense Alarm clock you won't be able to disable the alarm from the lockscreen. you'll have to unlock your phone first and choose it from the alarm popup.
****
found a stock alarm clock apk that will work with the vanilla lockscreen.
1.Put the file in the tools folder of your Android SDK
2.Reboot to Recovery
3.Mount System
4.Open CMD prompt
5.cd to tools folder (c:\android-sdk-windows\tools)
6. adb push DeskClock.apk /system/app
8.Reboot
Good info, thanks.
Finally, I love the stock lockscreen rather than Sense's
Very nice. Thanks.

is there a new update to the Android SDK software?
Trying to locate the source of the problem, but since doing this hitting menu will unlock the phone. I know this is an option for CM Roms, however i'm running the Liberated Froyo Rom. I know they put in the trackball wakeup option, but i can't find any of the settings that would govern that and menu unlock. it didn't do this with the sense unlock screen.
other question, any way to make the answer call when locked screen be the stock one and not the sense one?

There is an HTCDialer.apk in the phone's /system/app/ folder. I'm guessing renaming it may replace it. Not sure but worth a try. Just repeat the steps above just the same. I prefer the Sense dialer over stock tho.
It's not so much the dialer (or maybe it is) i have issues with . Right now when i get a call with the phone locked i get the sense answering screen (curved bar to slide up or down.) I'll do some playing tonight to see if that really is part of the dialer or not. I'm not overly familiar with all the software components of android, so it's a learning process for me.
Same here. Just trial and error and learning
you are amazing. i have been trying to sort out a solution to that hideous sense lock screen FOREVER! i love CM, but Liberated seems to run much faster on my phone, so i'm sticking with it.
now that you have fixed my lock screen complaint, i only have one other problem to sort out...skipping music tracks with volume button. i sure miss that feature from CM.
good info.. Although, mine wont work.. It says it cant rename, no such file or directory found. I have checked over and over and it really is in there. My spelling and slashes are perfect. Any ideas?

Ditto with 92, I tried several different ways of getting this to work and got nothing. I for the life of me can not figure this out. Is there a way to post a screenshot of this? or get more info? I'm rolling on a FR008 ROM.

I have the FR008 rom flashed on my HTC Aria. Even with using the DeskClock.apk, I cannot turn off the alarm at all! (on the lock screen or after unlocking the phone)

Add native android SIP stack for Wifi & 3G calls in ICS - Galaxy Note-GT-N7000

This is just to help people like me that use their mobile for internet calls. As you know, it is disabled in GNote ICS and the old method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109962 does not work for ICS ROMs.
TESTED ON
LPY
LPF
LP8
LP9
LQ2
LQ3
Kingdroid 2.0
Kingdroid 2.1
Kingdroid 3.0
GNote i717 Team Perfection ICS (UCLE2)
Criskelo V7
MIGHT WORK FOR YOUR ROM IS THE SIZE OF YOUR framework-res.apk IS: Size: 18.7 MB (19,623,222 bytes), Size on disk: 18.7 MB (19,623,936 bytes)---checked under windows.
I will attach a modified framework-res.apk for GNote ICS ROM and the Internet call settings menu file.
Just a little changelog of what the modified framework-res.apk can do
Enables internet call (Wifi & 3G)
Enables all orientations (your phone rotates all round)
Rotating Lockscreen (Landscape + Portrait)
Screen stays off on USB/Charger disconnect
Just download one of the .zip files below extract and copy android.software.sip.voip.xml (its in this folder \system\etc\permissions) file to /etc/permissions using ES file explorer, Root explorer or any root browsing app. You can also push this file via ADB but you must be rooted in order to do any of these. After copy framework-res.apk (its in this folder \system\framework) to /system/framework, you can also push this. Your phone will freeze and quickly reboot, if not reboot manually but give it enough time to copy the files.
You should have internet calling now and all the other extras.
NOTE: Always backup incase something goes wrong, I am not to be held responsible for any bricks.
However, if anything goes wrong, just push back Stock framework-res.apk or if not reflash Non-wipe ICS ROM.
This framework-res.apk is specifically tested on the GNote ICS ROMs listed above, use it in any other ROM at your own risk.
--------------------------EASIER STEP FOR NON-ROOTED ROMS--------------------------
To simplify these steps, I have made a flashable zip. Download one of the .zip files and put it in your sdcard (external)---Do not extract pls.
Boot into recovery (Vol up + Power button + Home button all together)
-------ALREADY HAVE CWM DO THIS-------
Scroll down to 'Install zip from sdcard'
Then 'Select zip from Internal/External sd'
Find the zip where you saved it and select it
Select Yes to install.
NOTE: CWM uses Vol up & down to scroll and Home button to select
----------STOCK RECOVERY DO THIS---------
Download CWM Touch
Copy to External sdcard
Boot into recovery
Scroll down to 'Apply update from external sdcard'
Locate CWM and select it
Select Yes to install
CWM Touch will load automatically
Click 'Install zip from sdcard'
Click 'Select zip from Internal/External sd'
Locate the zip where you saved it scrolling with your finger or with volume button
Click on it and select yes to install.
NOTE: Stock recovery uses volume up & down to scroll and Power button to select while CWM Touch uses hand + Vol up & down for scrolling and Touch and Home button to select.
When all is done, go back and select Reboot system.
If you have any questions post it here.
THERE ARE FOUR DIFFERENT WAYS TO GET THIS DONE
1. Copy using root explorer
2. Push using ADB
3. Install using CWM Touch temporary
4. Install using CWM kernel installed on your phone.
FOR STEP
1. You must have root and root explorer app, just download the file, extract and copy each to their respective directories (refer to the step above).
2. Push the two files using ADB but you need root in order to do this.
3. Install temporary CWM Touch via stock recovery and flash the zip. This does not install CWM in your phone, it disappears as soon as you reboot.
4. Install CWM kernel for your ROM and use it to flash the zip.

Well there are other options I changed from false to true and vise versa and then changed it from Phone device to Tablet device. I noticed most changes in the dialogue boxes and graphical interface.
Well its your call, if you want it then go for it.
So, if I understand, after apply your modifications, my phone will most look like tablet device than phone device?
There is no performance or battery changement (no bad surprise with anormal drain battery ou low performance), but just appearance modification.
I'm right?
And an other question : Is there possibility to just add native SIP in ICS, without apply others modifications?
PS : apologise for my english

scared? Not really, I just like understand what I do. I think it's the best thing to do for progress.
For example, after read your post, I know that is possible to change option. So I actually trying know how to change the false/true options. I don't know where find the files where they are, and after how to open, look and try to understand them.
I'm "noob", so I think it will take me a long time!

Just flash via recovery, follow the guide above
Thanks a lot!!
Edit : Working perfectly
Tested with poivy.com account, no problems!
I also figured to enable the "Ask for every call" option in order to use the sip voip with the dialer XD
