Hi,
I've been using Swype for some two weeks now, today starting having massive problems with it (huge lagging of the application affecting the entire system, rendering it nearly unusable). I don't know if this can attributed to this, but at one point today I did a battery stats wipe, after some time when I checked and it turned out that Swype had been using some 20% of my total battery usage. I uninstalled and reinstalled, but no improvement (still massive slowdown). Then I flashed from CM 5.0.5.2 to 5.0.5.3, still no improvement. Afterwards I tried installing ShapeWriter and SlideIt- both force close the instant I try to enter into their respective settings, or select them as the input method, Swype did not force close.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
At least you can still use it. Mine has been disabled for a few days now and the old trick to use it doesn't work anymore (switching to another kb and then switching back to swype)
Actually the lag was so huge that it was unsuable. I uninstalled a couple apps I didn't use and that seemed to have worked - swype works normally again, but I seem to be experiencing another problem - newly installed apps from the market force close upon launch.
I think am experiencing similar problems also, when ever I try to bring up the keyboard to type it freezes up, so am using stock kb at the moment and all this started happening after I installed cyanogen 5.0.3.n1.

Did you import any word list into your user dictionary? I discovered that this why swype froze.
Also, slideIT and shapewriter force closed because because of user permissions.

After a while the keyboeard popup disapears, i don't see anything but when i release it uses the icon or number but it's really annoying. i also posting a screenshot to show it, the dot button is pressed to show the popup, but there is nothing to see.
Before people are starting to say wipe everything, i'm not a noob at this i flashed everything used different roms currently i'm using modified stock ROM. it was also present with CM7 builds (nightlies & rc)
Gb version GRI40 with stock kernel. I just wanted to know if other people have the same issue.
ps: reboot does fix the problem but annoying to reboot it every time.
Update:
thnx to tommert38 there is a way to get the popup working again bij 'Clear data' in Settings > Applications > Manage applications. This will remove all the keyboard settings and maybe dictionary (not sure about this).
this is also a reported issue found here > http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=15029
I've experience the same problem. I've tried foreclosing the keyboard but that doesn't work.
So far the only solution I know is a restart.

fine to hear that i'm not the only one with this issue but not fine to hear that there is a bug like this.
I also tried FC the keyboard and didn't work and this happens everyday.
What if you select 'Clear data' in Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All, under Android keyboard ?
I installed a custom keyboard with English and Dutch dictionary and had this issue once, but when I cleared data it was fine again..
If you have more than one keyboard installed, you can switch to the other keyboard and back again by long pressing the text field and selecting the Input Method option. It's a workaround, but it's easier than rebooting the phone...

my wife has reported the same issue on a non rooted stock gingerbread n1

Ok so i'ts a official GB Bug, i didn't read it anywhere so i thought i was the only one.
I believe I've seen the same, on Gingerbread, but running another keyboard (AnySoftKeyboard). The keyboard disappeared and didn't appear until reset. At the same time, switching to the regular Gingerbread keyboard worked - it showed up. Switching back to AnySoftKeyboard before reset again brought it blank.

Really? I use swype, and whenever it disappears I just switch to the android keyboard then back to swype and it always works...

this worked for me! thanks
Im getting the same issue on a stock GB N1... Only happened once so far though, and I solved it by rebooting the phone...
Having the same issues even on the Nexus S. Fixed by force closing the android keyboard. Never happened before until recently. I think its GB.
I dont remember having this issue on GB 2.3.2 (when using CM7 Nightlies) did this happen after the update to 2.3.3?
I have the same problem using HTC Ime Mod (oxygen 2.0.1, HTC Desire). In this mod there is an option to kill te keyboard. That's enough to fix it!
Yea, this only happened after upgrading to gingerbread. Stock 2.3.3, never modified.
If i clear the Android keyboard data, doesn't that mean i loose the keyboard permanently? I'd need another keyboard as a backup right?

No you won't loose your keyboard only the settings of the keyboard and maybe (not sure) custom dictionary.
I saw this thread yesterday (never noticed the bug until I after I read this ) but have noticed it several times now. I just took the keyboard from CM7 RC1 and pushed it to /system/app/LatinIME.apk. I haven't been using it very long, but so far I have not gotten the bug again. I will report back after a few hours of usage on my finding. Also, I noticed nothing functionality wise that differs from the 2.3.2 and 2.3.3 LatinIME's.
Update: the bug occurred anyways, but force closing the keyboard restored it to working function.

Clearing the keyboard means that all settings go to default. This means I only have to select which dictionaries I want to use, because I don't touch the other settings It won't delete your keyboard and it's still better than rebooting the phone!
I have tried to run SPB Shell 3D v1.0.1 on my Nexus One quite a few times, but it closes automatically every time after starting. It is just me or has anyone else faced the same problem? Solutions?
I'm running MIUI Gingerbread 1.3.25

I have the same issue. Since I'm also using MIUI 1.3.25 it will most likely be a MIUI compatibility issue.
@nonpafos it just closes after a black screen(1 or 2 seconds) and returns to the last opened application. Haven't tried viewing logs though because I wanted to get a refund in time
I'm using it with MovieStars latest MIUI ROM and it works perfectly fine...
Mostly working for me, it froze at one point and my N1 rebooted and then got stuck in a bootloop, had to delete the /data/data/*spb* files. Seems ok now other than the icons in the "favourites" widget all show up as black squares at fullsize, but they're there when minimised.
Pretty cool, it's a bit impractical to use on a screen as small as the N1, it's much nicer using it on my Galaxy Tab.
I'm using the latest gigglebread fw & Pershoot kernel.

I'm having the same issue on my N1 running the Kang-O-Rama ROM (based on CM7). I've contacted SPB's support on the issue and they are working through it... not making a lot of progress on it yet, but I'll give them a little bit of time.
Are you running an a2sd implementation? I have noticed that if i move/rebuild my dalvik-cache to /sd-ext, the Shell will load and run (though very poorly). With the dalvik-cache on internal storage (/data), the application fails to launch. I don't have enough free space left on my /sd-ext partition to move the dalvik-cache there for good though
Had a N1 with CM7 RC4 & WN kernal, same issue.
Same issue on CM7 fresh install and MIUIFormel.
same issue here
i flashed the latest miui rom last night (1.4) and have the same issue as everyone here, screen goes black for a second then back to the other apps :-(
shame. Luckily I got my refund back in time. when I see this has been fixed I might give it another try.
cheers
D
I have the latest MIUI rom and it works perfectly fine for me...
Is there any way I can add a city to the weather widget? Maybe editing a file...
Nearest city is about 90 km from where I live...
The latest version in the Market (1.0.3) solved my black screen issue, and the Shell runs quite well on my device. I'm very impressed with SPB's support as well.
Maybe not worth the fifteen bucks, but I'm pleased anyway.

Storm, what if you can't get the installer to work? I am running a phoenix rom and the only swype I have is the beta. Unfortunately I can't run the 3.26 installer (which just came out, thereby deactivating my copy) because I'm getting an error "Swype Beta is currently unavailable for devices that have Swype preinstalled" - since my cracked copy had a beta to begin with - when a new copy was released, my copy was remotely deactivated. Is there a workaround?
I'm having an issue updating swype as well, when I go into the swype installer and hit "update" I get an error saying "There is a problem parsing the package."

When I try to install that app, I start installing and a few second later it says "application not installed"
Wipe data and uninstall Swype using Titanium Backup. Boot into Recovery and clear cache and dalvik cache. Then install. PROFIT!

I'm using the new Swype to type this. You don't need to clear your cache and all that. Just uninstall Swype and the Swype installer from titanium backup. Then download the new installer. Reboot your phone and run the installer and it should go through just fine. Just so you know, its really good looking.

I found his themed swypes... oops, but now after doing some more reading I see Swype has cracked down on "unofficial" themes and XDA is closing threads related to them. So I guess you'll have to find them yourself - shouldn't be too tough though.
Here's where you can get every new swype beta. Just sign up on the official site and download the installer:
http://beta.swype.com/
The latest revision works great, but I'm having, like many others, issues downloading alternative languages pack on ICS/CM9. Did anybody figure out a workaround?

Yesterday I installed swype on CM9 B16. within an hour i was down 40% battery (edit: phone was sitting idle, screen off). Put it on charge an even that was going slow and the top of the phone was warm. Switch the keyboard back to the android default and the phone cooled off and charging went faster (from laptop USB). Using the show cpu usage overlay, it seems like the swype keyboard is always cranking away on cpu usage even in the lock screen.
Has anyone else had this battery drain issue with swype? is there a workaround? Swype was the best thing going on my carriers GB rom.

Nope I dont have this problem, ive been using it on ICSSGS Roms, no glitches or bugs works flawlessly. It might be a bad install, remove the app and redownload it..
Ive noticed that no matter what there is almost always a swype background process running so that can contribute to your batter loss.
I realize its always going to be a looming process. I did try reinstalling a couple hours ago. Its not popping up so intensely on the cpu usage monitor and have only dropped a normal amount (a few percent) of battery since then. I think the reinstall did it.
ps. I also had wiped my Dalvik cache before the reinstall for unrelated reasons, could have this been the atual fix rather than reinstalling swype?
Hello,
the stock firmware of my GT 7300 showed some strange behaviour when it came to multi-touch zooming in web-browsers (I tried stock browser, Dolphin HD and Opera):
When doing pinch-to-zoom, there was initially a small lag until the actual resize happened, kind of "the tablet needs some time to recognize that it should start zoom-mode" (I think it was the time between the text turned from sharp to blurry). When I would keep my fingers on the screen after "zoom-mode enabled" and resize up and down, the resizing itself was very smooth, immediately following my fingers.
After installing Overcome ROM, the lag completely went away (tested in stock browser and Dolphin HD). However, yesterday it came back, again for both browsers. The only thing I'm aware of having changed was playing with keyboard apps.
Today I tried reflashing Overcome, which didn't help, and then reflashing Overcome with data wipe, which DID help- the lag is gone again. Because this gives a pointer to some configuration affecting the behaviour, I've backuped system data so I can go back to that state, and hopefully figure out the difference in the configuration when the lag comes back.
What I'm really surprised about is that I couldn't find any reports about such a behaviour, neither on xda-developers nor via googling. Am I the only one who has/had that problem? Is anyone out there that know about this issue and possibly knows the configuration setting that affects the behaviour?
Regards,
labosch
I finally got it!
It's the "tilt zoom" feature that causes the lag. If you disable it in the system preferences, pinch-to-zoom in browsers works fine!
Sammy gimmicks...gotta trust 'em, huh.

Hey guys,
So I've tried everything I can think of, but my google voice typing icon does nothing when I touch it. If I hold it down, it still brings up settings, but just stays inactive when I touch it. I was able to use it after I first flashed the captivating rom, in fact I mistakenly made it my default keyboard somehow.... and once I figured out how to turn it off of default (reset the phone to apply settings) for some reason it stopped working. Not sure if there's any more options short of backing up and re-flashing.
I'm still using the same captivating rom, with unofficial semaphore kernel.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Which version of the ROM are you running? I'm currently running X6 and I've had some other odd keyboard issues. Have you tried resetting the default keyboard? (I know you took off the other one from default but what did you set as the default after)
I have tried both xperia keyboard and the android keyboard as default. Neither work
X6 here too
I'll try to download the google voice app later when I get home from work. If any one else has had any keyboard issues your input would also be appreciated .
Yeah I downloaded Google voice a couple hours ago, hoping it could fix it. Are they actually related though?
It's odd because it's only the keyboard icon that won't access google voice typing... I can do voice search etc.
Odd, I'll try this as well once I get home. Just to note, I DID NOT flash X6 from a clean install. I "dirty" flashed it over X5. Not sure if you did as well (It wouldn't come as a surprise if this was the cause of some of these issues, if you did this as well).
Actually I did flash from stock.
