Ey, sorry for bugging,
Can anyone help me restore the settings option on my X1's Start menu?
Deleted it from \Windows\Start Menu\
I would prefer not to update rom. Its the latest stock (SE Update Service says so).
Thanks,

if you don't have many customizations, simply hard reset device to restore default setup
if you do have many customizations: are only the *.lnk files deleted or also the link target(s)? if it's only the shortcuts, recreate them manually
on my customized rom there is only icon.lnk in \Windows\Start Menu\Settings
it's been soe time that I was on stock, so I'm not sure how it should look there
hope that helps at least some
cheers
Erm, i couldn't find the settings applications (?), but you gave me an idea:
only 1link in your settings? you probably have a full settings menu ( else you would probably told it)..
so i created an empty folder named "Settings" =)))
And i got all the links&stuff back =))
thanks mate =)

is it possible to make an already full patched(button fix, camera, bluetooth, etc) rom with all basic programs (such as mms client, stk, backlight, etc)?
i think yes but i'm not able to make it..it will be very usefull for newbies such me..
with this full rom you do not need to post lots of duplicated threads and all will works since the beginning..
yeah i would like that to,
so we only have to install it without patching and so
very good idea!!!!
but now, apart the Wiki, there is a list of all patchs that must be installed?!
'cause I don't have enough time to read alle the pages in WM5 problem resolutions thread
well,
so far, i created a project for a extended rom under wm2005.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_WM5_Extended_ROM
Butt im stuck, it will not install off the rom after a hard reset.
If this would be working we do not have to worry anymore if we forgot or lost our sd card for the neccesary patches.
i think yes
i can make a list but someone has to do that
i think tha the 'default' are:
camera fix
wm5_v3 fix
button fix
midi with album fix
missing system programs (mycpl.rar)
traylauncher
wifi programs
sim manager
and a set of default programs:
pdf reader
xscaler
pocketplus
pocketrar
etc..
I would say no, i'd rather have the choice to install what patches i want. For instance if i dont use MMS or prefer the soft keys of WM5. The way it is now you can configure the device just as you want. Getting a working extended rom you can customise would be my choice. I definitely wouldnt want Pocketplus installed by default on my device.
It has to work first.
So anybody already found a working autorun.exe and config.txt files?
I Tried alot of those two, but still not able to get it working under te extended rom after a hard reset.

you don't have to use the all in one pack..
it's only the noob choise..and very easy to use..

Yes i dont have to use it; but if the patches are no longer released separately then i have no choice. If there is a choice of all-in-one rom and non-patched that will be ok. But you have to think of who creates the rom, it may be easier just to maintain one rom version. I guess we have to wait and see..
@pimbo have you tried the autorun from the K-Jam extended rom? May be different from the Universal files. Its here ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/

Not yet, preparing my device now, autorun is 17kb from this one
setup is 104kb, looks common, exept the dates are a bit older.
Manually launching the autorun of files on the extended rom will work, so i guess that i have to do a hardreset again, thats what i going to do later the evening. lol 8)

No luck. wil not automaticly run.
Still need to make the rom visible and run the autorun.exe for the installs.
But this is the nearest solution for now i guess.
So you still need a single cabfile on a sd card to unhide your rom and install all files on there.
If anybody knows the bytes to change in the nbk or nbf files or maybe in the bootstrap, the adaption could be completed and the patches would automaticly install after a hardreset. .
please don't OT
...so
dev can make all in one rom and single patch

midi with album fix [Album with midi.rar]

wifi programs [ftp://xda-developers.com/BlueAngel/Programs/WIFI/Retina digital security/RetinaWiFiPoc.exe]
right?!
i for one would love an all encompassing rom patch. reading through all the duplicate posts and other resolutions is a real hassle for noobs. we see the same questions being asked every 3 days or so and it just creates more clutter for the other noobs to sift through. i figure a lot of those fixes should be included in the next patch of the current wm5 rom anyhow if people rather wait for that to come around.

if ppl want to install single patch one by one they can do that
but i think that for noobs this is such as an "official" rom
tested and approved from xda devs
please try to create folder named 2577 in your extrom and place autorun in that folder.
it should be executed automatically...

did not work, did the autorun in a folder called 2577. cab files on the root.
did a hard reset, but would still not install.
The screen of the 3sec before install wont pop up
But after i made my extended rom visible, it automaticly runs after a soft reset.(the 3sec screen pops up )
(last problem?)
But i'm going to get some sleep now, maybe that will help a bit

This would not work. WM5 on BA lacks registry settings and driver for the extended_rom folder.

Anyone have the registry entry to disable the menu sounds? It annoys me when I click on the START menu, when I press SEND/RECEIVE in Pocket Outlook, etc.
I had a ROM on here recently that had this feature and I miss it greatly.
Thanks, everyone.

Start - Settings - Sounds & Notifications - remove the checkbox from "Events (warnings, system events)"
Hmmm.
I thought I tried that on the stock ROM and it didn't solve my problem. But, I unchecked it and viola, that did it.
/me feels like an ID10t
No Sounds cab file
How's this?
btw nightowl007, that ROM was probably a UWC as I had the no sounds included in the extended ROM.
(rename from zip to cab)
btw, this isn't a reg tweak but two "empty" sound files, handsw.wav and menupop.wav. If you turn off the Events in Sounds you'll lose (to me at least) essential notifications.
Thanks, Dr P. That's what I was looking for (explanation). Thanks for the sounds as well.

Drats. They are in ROM. How can I replace them?
Simply run that cab file. It does all the work.
Your Wizard only looks for the files in ROM if they aren't found first in the appropriate path. It finds the replacements, and doesn't look further.

I did.
I got an error that said:
'Installation of No Sounds by Dr P.cab wa unsuccessful.'
I did a soft reset, recopied the CAB to the device and got the same message.

I searched the forum and found a similar file. This works for me. Just copy to your wm and install.
-vsnipper- Thanks! I posted the wrong file ... You found one that I posted a while back that DOES work.

Are you saying that you got the "stock rom start menu" or just lost the option called "QuickMenu" in which you will find options like Screen, SIP, bluetooth, etc in ttrans custom rom? I had the same problem but after few days and soft resets it appeared on its own. anyway make sure that "QuickMenu.lnk" which is a shortcut file which brings the custom start menu is available in the folder "\Windows\StartUp\" and if not copy from "\Windows" and paste in start up folder. Use total commander or some other file explorer to do the same. let me know the result
that did it
thanks spk_xda!
i copied and pasted and now i'm back up and running the good quick/start menu. i appreciate the fast help.

You know what, now I lost the start menu lol... even though the lnk file is available in "\windows\startup" folder its not coming back and I got the stock rom start menu. lets see what happens after few days...
I had the same problem except the link for the quickmenu is in the start up folder already. It occured after doing the initial settings changes the second time I flashed it with Open Touch v4.0. The first time it worked for a little bit but I guess I changed some setting that doesn't allow it to start up. I can click the link or program and it will load once but it defaults to the Orig. start menu after that... Am I the first with this specific issue?

No, you are not the only one having this issue. As I stated above, I still have the problem and the quick menu doesnt comes even after many soft resets. I even tried to move the .lnk file from startup folder and reset and then moved it back and reset, but no way... it just doesnt work...
Hi,
I am a bit of a dumbass really.... and i need a bit of help.
I am looking for a software package to be able to remove items from the start menu and the programs list.... as i have programs i want installed but not be listed on the start menu or in the programs list.
If there isnt a software package available, then can i remove the option from within the registry?
Thanks in advance
Sean Saunders
you can edit start menu programs in settings/personal(tab)/menus
to delete shortcuts from start menu/programs folder you can delete this shortcuts in windows/start menu/programs
recent programs in start menu can't be removed. you can remove them with Advanced Config or KaiserTweak, but it requires soft reset and it removes them just for this session.
It's called File Explorer and is in programs. Somewhere..

Hi, just upgraded my rom. Restored a Sprite Backup I made. Only problem is that my applications that I restored dont have icons any more and can only be accessed through the file manager.
Is there anyway to get the icons back?
Thanks
if you mean a shortcut in programs then you can just make one yourself
find the exe and make a shortcut to it and place it in \windows\starbar\progams
Thanks, realised thats all it was soon after I made this post.
Cheers
