resize album menu? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

hi there. don't know if that's the best section where ask about my question.
i am using smaller htc and manila menus on my diamond.
the menu in album is a lot bigger (and still green, will change it to grey asap).
i'd like to resize it like the others but i don't have a clue of the values to use to do it.
can someone help me with that? here's some screenshots of my idea..
htc menu (all ext apps)
manila menu (sense UI related)
album menu (not resized yet)
i know that the files to edit the album menu size are those ones:
ha_skin_l.xml
ha_skin_p.xml
and resize all the
ha_menu_focus_*.bmp files, which are the "menu bars".
but i don't know nothing about xml. they look like:
Code:
<imgview x="0" y="0" w="480" h="640" bgclr="220,220,220" img_dv_drm="ha_dv_drm.bmp" img_dv_drm_mask="ha_dv_drm_mask.bmp"/>
<menubar x="0" y="588" w="480" h="52" clr="255,255,255" selclr="100,100,100" bgclr="50,50,50" maskclr="175,175,175" img="ha_menubar_p.bmp" img_mask="ha_menubar_p_mask.bmp"/>
<popupmenu x="20" y="8" w="440" h="580" clr="0,0,0" fsize="28" fweight="550" bgclr="255,255,255" selbgclr="101,174,0" selfgclr="67,128,0" borderclr="100,100,100" disclr="116,116,116" itemshift1="23" itemshift2="40" itemheight="80" rows="7" navi_rows="6" img_arrow_up="ha_arrow_up.bmp" img_arrow_up_mask="ha_arrow_up_mask.bmp" img_arrow_up_dis="ha_arrow_up_dis.bmp" img_arrow_up_dis_mask="ha_arrow_up_dis_mask.bmp" img_arrow_dn="ha_arrow_dn.bmp" img_arrow_dn_mask="ha_arrow_dn_mask.bmp" img_arrow_dn_dis="ha_arrow_dn_dis.bmp" img_arrow_dn_dis_mask="ha_arrow_dn_dis_mask.bmp" img_arrow_rt="ha_arrow_rt.bmp" img_arrow_rt_mask="ha_arrow_rt_mask.bmp" img_arrow_rt_dis="ha_arrow_rt_dis.bmp" img_arrow_rt_dis_mask="ha_arrow_rt_dis_mask.bmp" img_nav_top="ha_menu_navi_none_t_p.bmp" img_nav_top_f="ha_menu_navi_none_t_f_p.bmp" img_nav_bottom="ha_menu_navi_none_b_p.bmp" img_nav_bottom_f="ha_menu_navi_none_b_f_p.bmp" img_focus_top="ha_menu_focus_t_p.bmp" img_focus_mid="ha_menu_focus_m_p.bmp" img_focus_bottom="ha_menu_focus_b_p.bmp" img_focus_top_hl="ha_menu_focus_t_h_p.bmp" img_focus_mid_hl="ha_menu_focus_m_h_p.bmp" img_focus_bottom_hl="ha_menu_focus_b_h_p.bmp"/>

Well, points for self-knowledge must be granted, you really aren't good at this.
Just play with the values man, just guess and try, starting with the "itemheight="80" rows="7" portion I would suggest.

hi m8,i really don't want that someone else does the whole job for me. i always do my tests before begging for help,i already did some tests but without good results. i already tried both "itemheight" and "rows",as fsize (font size?) but i had no luck. i thought there's some other values that i ignored as less "visible" than those two that are the best candidates. that's why i said i don't know nothing about xml. btw thanks a lot for the reply, that's such an invitation to try again and again

Thats OK, I can always blacklist you
Anyway, if you played with the values, and got no result, than I am afraid I am not going to be able to help. Other than maybe remarking: Did you restart the device after changing the values? It may need a restart to reread the file.

Ok fellow Wiz Geeks

Here is the challenge, changing the start button icon without using any other application and getting it to remove the word start. I want the vista look but without using another application to do so. Let me know what you come up with.
Oh yeah, must be for WM6
Just use any recource editor for edit shellres.dll.409.mui or smth like that
Hmmm...I like it...off to dig...
*edit* well that didn't take long huh...although I think most might need a little more in depth description than that...
Its in shellres.96.dll to be exact for the icon and shellres.dll.0409.mui for the word start
Thanks though. I totally forgot about the ResHacker software.
Only problem is when i changed them, they didnt take effect in the os.
Damn. I must be ising it somewhere

Did you remember soft reset after making the change?
I did these changes prior to installation of the os
Also if anyone can figure out how to change the Windows Default Theme that is loaded on the device during install and making those changes permanent would be awesome.

Schaps AdvancedConfig lets you do it, it's one of the options.

Great little program.
Note: I was assuming by "Diamond dialer" you mean the phone skin, if that's not what you're talking about sorry. I didn't realize it gave that much memory, that's the only reason I'm putting this.

The problem is, you lose a lot of functionality by disabling it. (Video calls, Volume keys, turn phone upside down to mute, save to contacts popup etc. etc.)
I wish someone could find out why it takes so much RAM and compress the images or something to make it smaller.

Eh, video calls aren't functional for me anyways... I have no front camera...
But yeah, I keep it on because I didn't notice a huge performance difference with it off, and it looks so much nicer when it's there.
It takes memory because of the images. The images are almost all stored in a dll, so compressing them is not easy.

Most images in DLL's can be taken out with a resource editor like Resource Hack. Then you can compress the images and put them back in. If I knew which dll we were talking about, I would give it a try.
I think here is another discussion about the same topic:

But they need to remain as the correct format to work, and they may not work well if compressed...
phcan.dll, and phcanOver.dll (or something like that) contain quite a lot of the images.
The thread linked above is indeed about this particular discussion, but not the same as the OP.

kendons bootscreen v0.1

ok, born from the verbose bootscreen idea there was the fake verbose bootscreen idea, credit goes here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4912469
this is what i came up with in a quick session, i think there is much room for improvement. if anybody likes to contribute, i would be glad for creative support
apply the zip as update.zip, make a nandroid backup before just in case. to make it easier to revert i attached a zipfile with the original files in them to revert to original, one with the sounds activated, one silent.
please tell me what you think
Hello,
do you have any screenshot of the boot or video?
Just extract the gif files and open them in IE or firefox. They'll play the anim. Very funny
thats quite funny
Lol
You are completely cool!
Thank you for this Bootscreens.
Now, Hero Booting isn't pain anymore!
glad you liked it. stay tuned for next version, already working on a progress bar... won't be out before weekend i guess.
still looking for a fingerprint scanner animation.
Nice one Thou i kinda miss my androids popping up everywhere. Would it be cool if you had a Android face popping down from the top of the screen?

for now i found a way to edit the files in inkscape, one layer per frame, exporting them to .xcf keeping the layers, and then use gimp to convert to animated gif. works, but is a lot of footwork... but i guess as i am trying to make a rather "complex" (at least for a gif) animation it just is a lot of footwork...

Hey, I was wondering if you could help me out. I dig your boot animation, and it's inspired me to make my own (OK, I'm just stealing the old "Cylon Eye" animation from the pre-release days.) Anyway, I've got the animation zip installed and working, however it seems like the phone is ignoring the frame delay. The animation seems to be going as fast as the phone can handle. So maybe there's a setting on the animated GIF that I'm not applying. Are there any specific settings you applied to your gifs?
Here's what I've got right now:
Code:
Interlace: No
GIF Comment: No
Loop Forever: Yes
Delay between frames where unspecified: 10ms
Frame disposal where unspecified: "I don't care" (other options are Combine and Replace)
Use Delay entered for all frames: Yes
Use Disposal entered for all frames: Yes
These settings are in GIMP. If you could help me figure this out, I'd greatly appreciate it.

set that value to a higher number, try 100ms. this specifies the general frame delay, you can set per-frame delays in the name of the frame. for example:
"Frame#1" is the layer name, make it
"Frame#1(500ms)" to make the delay half a second long.
(if that doesn't work try to google it, i am not 100% sure about the syntax)
would you mind sharing that animation you are talking about?
btw: work is still ongoing here, nuclear power now has a colored progress bar, but it is getting complicated handling 150+ layers in inkscape...

Yeah, I realized that my math was off with the delay, after noticing yours was 500ms. I'm going to try a couple other things to get it smoother as well. The stock boot animation has a small animated gif in the middle of the screen with a black background, so I imagine the phone can handle that easier than a full 480x320 animation, so that's my next step. I was actually just about to post my animation in a separate thread, so I'll link that post here when I've done that.
EDIT: My initial attempt is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583094
There's still work to be done, so don't judge me to hard!

Sorry for being rude, but what is it you don't understand?
In every single post I made in this thread I've wanted to know where it is located, which apk or whatever file.
I know how to change it the usual way.

thankyou! worked perfect, pulled files and pushed back new!
Could you tell me how you did that? With adb?
And what is the perfect size for images?
Thx
320x455 is the size of the images.
use
adb remount
adb push c:/htc_wallpaper_01_lockscreen.jpg /system/etc/lockscreen/port/
if you want the original images use
adb pull /system/etc/lockscreen/port/ c:/
And htc_wallpaper_01_lockscreen.jpg is the Screen i want to use, right?
Thx a lot
Yep that is the one.
EDIT: There are many backgrounds, looks like they intended for an album but never implemented it.

Change text highlight color in Sense

Hi everyone. Can anyone point me in the right direction to change the text highlight color in Sense? I already tried to change the highlight value in framework-res.apk/res/values/styles.xml but that's not working on Fresh ROM 3.4.0.1. I'm starting to think the hex color code to change is somewhere in com.htc.resources.apk or HTC_IME.apk but I've been searching for a day and have gone through tons of code and nothing's sticking out. I've attached a screenshot that shows what exactly I'm talking about.
Can anyone help please? Thank you!

Ooooh good hint. I did not think of that. Maybe services.jar? I'll keep looking around.
I'm really starting to believe this particular thing needs to be change in smali code in HTC_IME.apk but I'm still spinnin the wheels on this.
Well, no Sense, but maybe this helps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795242

Thanks. Unfortunately, that doesn't apply to Sense I already followed those steps for the CM themes I've asked gIMpSTa to give me a hand on this one. He too thinks it's in smali code as well.
Thanks again.
