all the 3d feutures are included in spb mobile shell 3.5 too, as i can tell the inly thing that is new in 5 is the animated contact tab and the change wallpaper in home tab. If u allready got 3.5 go to graphic settings and set "use hardware accelerator" to on, and if u have a g-sensor phone u can allso use that 2
hope it still supports windows 6.1
SPB has gone far ahead with this release. People are just loving it..looking forward
Guys,
Just in case if u didn't saw thsi official preview video explaining the new function then see this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bE7vkxJnKY&feature=related
Must watch excellent presentation i have ever seen.
i would like integration with RSS as some widget you can put on the first page.
i prefer all-in-one solution (facebook, rss, some photo contacts, agenda, some shortcuts... in one screen). At least we have 3,6" windows mobiles as HD2 with hi res.
I think Touch flo is step back,
Also it will be good to make easier widget change or resizing like Samsung's touchwiz or lot of different widgets.
I hope MS5.0 still support "free connection" update unlike Android or Touchwiz.
I just hope I won't have to work months to convert all my stuff lol
EDIT: oh, and I also hope they'll finally give a meaning to the currenly almost useless tasks widget
i didnt even know version 4 is out yet!

it isn't... it won't
they're going straight from 3.5.3 to 5.0... looks like in some eastern cultures the number 4 means bad luck, so they're skipping it

What's new in SPB Mobile Shell 5.0:
New 3D engine
Natural Interaction Engine
3D widgets
Tight integration with Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and other social networks
SPB UI Builder 2.0
Multi-platform support: Android, Windows Mobile, Symbian
SPB really went in the right direction with the multi-platform support.

I noticed in the second youtube link in this thread, there is mention of the widget sdk. The description was kind of sketchy, but it could mean that developers will now have a platform to develop their own widgets (instead of just skinning existing ones) which could really open up the platform. It would be truly great to see what some of the developers here can do!
same old SPB only with 3D crap
i think its all marketing trick..
why "5"? you have only added 3D.. so.. why?
its not that you have developed new concept.
i think its the same old **** with only 3d cover.

Well, for instance, if they add multitouch I may go back to SPB... otherwise, I stay with Sense.

Check this one out TF3D v2.5. Hopefully can port into our HD

NRGZ28 as released a testrom with this manila but to much bugs,he as removed the link the same day,i think better rom with this manila as coming in the future
that looks really nice.
hopefully will see the new version incorporated in upcoming rom' s .
Looks like a natural progression of TF3D, and the start of the 'sense' version of TF for WM.
I noticed the option to add 'widgets' in there so that looks interesting.
Cant wait for a bug free version to hit our ROM's.
Really nice, but not as improved as HTC Sense (TouchFlo3D)..
Cant wait to cook this manila into my rom. Hopefully the big chefs with access to the leaks will share it and not lock their roms....
The contacts tab seems a step backwards for me though. Back to the HTC cube layout from a few generations ago.
i don't really like the square contacts... it's the same as the other UIs, like spb shell 3, the actual favorite contacts list is the best

It already works on Touch Cruise '09, which probably uses the same GPS chip, so yeah, Footprints are going to work on the HD.
I'm more concerned about specs necessary to run this new version of Manila. Firestone has (if I remember correctly) a 600 MHz Snapdragon...
am i wrong or in the video in the link in the first post a HD? if that dude can have it why dont we have it?

600mhz msm, same video chipset. It should work without problems
I like this new manila
Can the new Manila still show upcoming appointments belao the clock, instead of those shortcuts?
And is it possible to get back the old contacts page?
if you want appointments and current and favorite layout stay with current manila lol
where can i get the cab?

So after a couple of months using the Hero I wanted to share the Widgets I still use. My sense UI now has allot of app icons but I still find most of these Widget useful. Please add any suggestions and I will post them up on page. Lets create a resource to make the iphone peeps jealous
3RD PARTY WIDGETS:
BBC News (8/10) two widgets on my home page one for most popular and another for tech or sport
News Buzz (7/10) Still good but have stopped using it
Weather Bug (small) (5/10) Removed it
S2 CalenderWidget (9/10) for me by far the best calendar widget (two types to choose from)
Andriod and Me (small)(3/10) If nothing else to do a nice for android information
Twidriod Pro (8/10) simple but works well
Google scoreboard (9/10) I like this allot good for all sports updates
Facebook (don’t have an account I‘m a twitter man)
HTC WIDGETS:
HTC calendar (small) (8/10) Removed
HTC Settings GPS/Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/Mobile (8/10) Good functions I now only have gps as ModaCo's roms have a wifi off app already installed
HTC Weather/Clock (9/10) Still nice looking but have gone for 2X2 icon without clock
HTC bookmarks (8/10) still use them
HTC footprints (Large) (8/10) Was fun at first but now removed
HTC Album (4/10) Removed
HTC Picture frame( 4/10) still use it
Contacts (8/10) nice but don’t use
Other than the stock HTC widgets - small music player, messaging and the ones you listed, I also use Google's Scoreboard. If you're into sports, its pretty good.
Oh and I have the Facebook widget too.
Someone should write one for xda-devs, it could show you PMs and when people reply to your threads/posts.... Or maybe I'm just beginning to rely on the Hero just a little too much these days.
I agree Floridak xda dev should be more mobile friendly. It would be nice to get updates via a widget. It would also be nice yo have a mobile edition web page that you can post on.
+1

lets get back on topic. Any new Widgets out there?
try feedr. It's $0.99 but you can create an rss feed of xda forums and then place as many widgets on your desktops as you like..I like it a lot.
i use the normal xda website all the time from my hero, i find it great and if you zoom in the auto format setting kicks in to save you the hassle
Did anyone hear of widget that would show/hide my number when calling with one press on a home screen ? That would save a lot of effort

I found interesting the Volume Widget Pro.
It's pretty nice and really useful to change music and alarm volume level from the home screen. And it has lot's of options to configure the colors of the widget.
What I'm using.
Twidgit, nice little widget shows the latest tweet.
BBC news, small widget that shows the latest headline.
Did have 'android and me' but it wasn't much of interest on it.
Ditto engaget.
I posted about this issue a while back when i first got my Hero. I was told it was not possible then. I`m hoping someone can remedy this issue as i hate having to scroll through 30-40 apps to find what i`m looking for. Even WM 6.1 has this facility!

MOD EDIT: Link Removed - no warez
Just released new 3.5 SPB Mobile Shell with following features added / modified in the version 3, I like it & I feel it is worth to try
3D email and SMS viewer I feel it is better than Manila
Improved 3D carousel design (e. g. added reflections)
New skins for most widgets
Color themes support on Windows Mobile 6.5
Facebook & twitter widgets
Internet search
Option to change the number of screens in lifestyle or professional layouts
& many more.
Regards,
Manoj
Thanks for the POST. Been looking for this. THANKS again.

yes, they seem to like warez on this site.
WHat ROM are you using this on? Is there any benefit to using a 6.5 rom with this, or may as well go back to a stock rom?
Cheers.
I am using Valkyrie v3.9 XPERIO, definitely you get benefits of 6.5 along with spb. I used spb 3 with earlier ROMs of 6.1 & 6.5 & experience was awesome.
Cheers
PS : It is a trial version.

Not really... you can find it here too:
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketpc-software/mobileshell/
And download a trial:
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketpc-software/mobileshell/download.html
When you choose cab install, you get the same file as the link provided above here....
Without a license it works only for 30 days, so it's not warez. When you use or provide a serial (for Mobile Shell 3, which still work), then it's warez.
Very true!
Thanks Gwystyl for posting clarification for the members having doubts.
Thanks for the clarification. I've tried it out, and it does not seem to offer a huge amount extra over SPB 3.0 panel, which is freely available elsewhere. I'm gonna stick to that
Can this be set as a separate panel, i.e., not a skin for the Windows 6.5 Home Panel? I mean like the initially introduced Korean version was a separate panel, can this version be set the same way?
I just love it - it's 100 times better than any Manila. After i installed it for me Manila with it's bugy Leo is dead.

Yes, I believe that's what he is talking about.
Been using 3.5 for a day now and I definitely like it better than the modded Korean 3.0 version. However, from my point of view, these are the cons:
1. Consumes about 20% more resources, leading to faster battery drain.
2. Lack of individual panel. I hope there will be a fix for this soon.

I totally agree. To be honest, Manilla, with it's near lack of customization is becoming archaic. But I bet versions will soon be as customizeable as SPB MS. Till then, bit hard for me to understand why people would choose it over SPB MS.

Hey... Gr8 theme thr.. .. I also wanted to run SPB shell but then general opinion is that it is a big memory hog.. What about it..?? Do you experience any slow downs or app crahses while running it..?? I normally run 4-5 apps at a time ( max 6 ).. will this be a problem..??..
Currently i am using Condor GT Black running on WinMo 6.5.3..!!

I tried SPB its quick but uses too much memory you are left with around 40 mb after spb + mods and can only run 2-3 apps at once (assuming one is a web browser)
Could you share the link to this? i like its simplicity

I not using PointUI with PointSense quite a long time, that project seems dead already.
PointUI - pointsense is smooth if only you don't add too much widget and page, it still quite buggy actually, that the reason I stop using it, waste my money that time buying the PointUI, a dead product.
lol. I just noticed the weather and the carrier is the same as yours now. I just snagged it off a website as I was too lazy to screencap mine. ppl are still working on that theme. hi I'm currently using spb shell 3.5 but I saw that there are very beautiful skin also for wad2. so my question is which is better between this two program??? i saw spb shell is more expensive than wad, but I want an opinion from those who have used their which is the most customizable? which is the lightest at the startup?
thanks a lot
I used both. Each of them can be customized and there are plenty of themes floating around for both of them (a bit more themes for wad). I sticked to spb mobile shell cause it seemed a bit faster on my device (HTC Touch HD WM 6.1) and i think it's more eye-candy than wad

going back to the main question: WAD is very good customizable but SPB mobile shell is faster.
I have been forced to live SenseUI free and have returned to some of my old skinning apps that I used pre-Sense. One of those is Wisbar Advance, made by Lakeridge who also makes WAD.
My recent experience with Lakeridge is they are dead. I made a few posts there and received no replies. My last post was a request for updated skinning info which has been there, unanswered, for more than a week. The forum is flat, there is no support there anymore and no one is skinning it anymore. Worse, all the links to old skins are all dead. Only a small pittance of skins that have been posted to Lakridge's forums are still available for it.
Because of this I created a skin myself, ironically enough. I actually released it today. Its here. Gratuitous plug: here is the promo flyer for it. But, I think no one is interested given the lack of activity around Lakeridge's site itself.
So a big caution with WAD. Its a dead end. Personally I've never liked WAD, I found it very buggy, but this was like 2 years ago. I have always liked Wisbar Advance though, and used it extensively before I got a HD2 and Sense.
That is not to say that SPB is any better, though. The difference is SPB abandoned their customers long ago, so nothing much is different. See the conversation I had with Vostradamus in his thread towards the end. Maybe because of this, the skinning community for Mobile Shell is very much alive here at XDA.
Now that I have been using Mobile shell for a few months, I have to say, thanks to the great artists at XDA, I find I like Mobile Shell far more than I like SenseUI. I will never be going back.
i like both...especially SPB mobile shell
