Does anyone have the answer as to why the new version doesn't work? Also, is it just me or do you have to have either a data or wireless connection established to send calls? Yet for receiving calls you don't need data or wi-fi.
pleeeeease use the search function. ive seen so many threads about google voice issues. be sure to search the whole eris section, not just the themes/apps forum.
there is a fix, but its based on an older version. search around for google voice 0.2. thats been patched and works, but doesn't have instant sms like current versions do.

Sorry, but I don't think you understand my question. I know the current version doesn't work and that we have to use 0.2. My question is why doesn't the newest version work, why does it put calls through verizon instead of voice? I just want to know why, that's all. I'm not looking for a fix, .2 is fine with me. Again, story for the misunderstanding.
Oh I see, ya, misunderstood I guess
But don't have an answer to that then, hopefully someone else will see this.

How do I make calls form my headset with out it having to call me back first, you know like a regular cellphone, i know it can be done because i followed instructions from a thread on this which i can no longer find. ive tried clicking call through in gv but that doesn't work, can someone help pls. thanx in advanced
I know that the official Google Voice app does direct dial without ringback. Maybe you want to transition to that app instead.
as for the unofficial GV app, i'm not sure.
Doesn't DirectDial (dialing out) still use your minutes?

I have been a long time fan of Vlingo for Blackberry and I read that it is now available for Android. I can't seem to find it in the market and I even went to www.vlingo.com/getvlingo. When I pull up the link it opens the market and says that there are no results for my search? Has anyone been able to successfully install this on the N1 running Froyo? If so, please enlighten me on how to do so.
Also, does this new version support Bluetooth voice dial since 2.2 has the ability now? One more thing, I did the build.prop mod to show all protected apps in the Market. Maybe that has something to do with it? If so, how do I revert this as well?

Vlingo pulls up fine for me - stock 2.1 (search for vlingo pulls it right up)
I'm on Froyo and can't pull up vlingo either (also went through Market and the getvlingo links).
Can anyone throw it up on a mirror?
Thanks!

This is a paid app, I pulled it up on my old G1. I don't think anybody is gonna post it here. Sorry for everybody who would actually pay for it.

Geez, ten bucks? What is it supposed to do that the inbuilt voice command cannot?
I used Vlingo when I had a BB and I didn't like it, and it was free at that time.

This is what they've got on their blog.
well, considering that voice to text should be available in any field that you are using the stock keyboard (i use swype, so i only turn stock on when i'm in the car), seems like vlingo is worthless
maybe i'm wrong
Thats pretty deceiving, since you can use the built-in android VR to compose emails and txt messages. I've done it many times, and it works great. I also use it to update my facebook status. As far as i can tell, there's really nothing that you CAN'T do with the built in VR, since you can use it anywhere you can use the keyboard.
Just got a reply back from support.
I was asked if my phone is rooted and if so that's the issue because the Market blocks Dev and Rooted phones.
Errrrr, hmmmm.
Anybody going to dish out 10 bucks for it and give us a review?

I got the exact same email from them about 5 minutes ago. I was solely interested in BETTER Bluetooth voice dial which they DON'T support at this time... I'm over it!
I suspect it doesn't show up in the market on Froyo devices because Google changed their voice recognition API in Froyo. They'll have to make some changes to the code and compile it with the 2.2 sdk.
I bought the app on my 2.1 Droid. The voice recognition is a lot better than Google's. I can actually use this, talk naturally, and don't have to worry about making corrections after the fact. I've got it mapped to hold on search hardware button, I say "Send an email to John Doe subject look at this message I composed this entire email without using my keyboard". It will ask me to verify the contact and email address I want to send to, let me choose to send with gmail or my exchange account, and insert the subject line and text in the message automatically. It's very slick and makes voice recognition really useful on android.

Uh, how is that not false advertising??
I can open Gmail right now, click a text box, and press the voice button.
Wtf?

Read my post above yours. This is what they were referring to.
As far as froyo support, I may be wrong: http://blog.vlingo.com/2010/05/android-22-froyo-support-for-vlingo.html
Bottom line is that as soon as Android Market flips the switch and recognizes the 2.2 OS as an officially released OS, Vlingo will show up as available for download. We'll certainly let you know once Android Market makes the change, and all you Froyo pioneers will be free to download Vlingo at your leisure.

So the only difference is that you can create and send an email without actually opening the Gmail app?
That's still false advertising as you can indeed Compose an email through voice.
If they made a distinction between "open apps using your voice", then it would be correct. But the way they are phrasing it is totally false.
I bought it, mapped it to long-press search button. The very first time I used it, it worked perfectly. "Text Google Weather [my zip code]" and sure enough, Handcent opened and the TXT was 100% correct. That was the only time it worked though. Everything else was close, but enough off I had to manually input something (find the correct contact or change the body of the message). Wasn't very impressed with it at all.

The first thing I noticed was how broken the interaction was when she said "call wonton shop" and it didn't call anywhere. it just looked up the number. the first result was a teriyaki place...go figure.
the second thing i noticed was the price. $10? for real? no thanks.
Is it software possible to record the calls (both sides, no loudspeaker) on nexus 1?
There was similar problem for windows mobile before where the OS won't let it, but was later solved. Now i see that there aren't really programs offering that as a feature. Is it disabled again on OS level?
Yes.
Search can be your friend, if you let it.
I want you to be my friend and let me know
Good reply
Can't say the same for yours (i still don't know the answer)
Ok, I'll try again:

I know they removed some program that was on the market that does that but, I use MIUI and its built into the rom :^)
I'm fairly sure google voice allows you to record calls. pressing "4" while in a call activates its IIRC

Please give us more light on that, do you remember the program and what's MIUI and what's your rom?
ok i finally read a bit about the matter, it's not in the stock ROM cause is illegal on plenty of places and they want to avoid potential trouble.
But with custom ROM it should be possible. Just as it seems is the case with this MIUI above.
But is it possible with cyanogen's rom?
I searched the Google market and I guess we aren't supposed to be able to download... it wouldn't even let me download from Google.com/voice! So here you go :

Are you rooted? I am and when I went though the initial account setup the Google Voice app was one of the optional apps to install.
Currently getting freeze-ups during voice mail options... gonna check some other versions. Can someone confirm this as well? I'm running Vega 5.1 beta
I have been running vegan 5.1 and have been able to get it to work before but just re flashed back to vegan from adam and I am now stuck on setting up voicemail screen too.
Edit: I just restored it back with titanium backup and its working fine now. Maybe its needs a newer version from the market. Maybe you can try sideloading the new version.

If it's the page I'm thinking about there should be a "Skip" button there, that will finish up the setup and you can finish setting your voice mail options via a web browser and manage GV settings through the account settings page of your google acount.
From a browser Upper right hand corner of your google page.
Account Settings > Voice > Voice Settings.
From there you can record a voice mail for your callers to hear when they call.
Bunch of options there.
i tried setting up the options on my pc but it didnt work. it still freezes at that point. and when i hit the skip button it just freezes.
can you upload the apk you used yujikaido79?

I was having the same problem , google voice was locking up at the voicemail step. I used the apk in the above link and now it's working.
Thanks.
How do you make phone call using Google Voice?
Works on vegan expirimental froyo.
bluetooth with voice?
So if I was to be able to get Voice on my gtab would there be a way to make and recieve phonecalls with a bluetooth headset?
Unless something has changed, Google is not VOIP, so no, you can't make calls with it. You can still text with it, as well as check your voicemail, which are the two things I use it for on the tab.
I have google voice app on my Gtab, and it works... but I can't find my contact list to send texts.... I am just stuck at my mailbox... can anyway explain to me what I am not doing correct?
Thanks!
(BTW I'm sure I'm missing something stupidly easy... sorry in advance!)

Sometimes you just have to keep going back. It may close and you have to reopen it.
not sure if this is common news, but i just installed VEGAn 5.1 + the 5.1.1 supplement. i did the market fix documented several places (load market, clear cache, force stop, google framework, etc.) and was able to find google voice in the market. from there it allowed me to update, and once updated i could skip the voicemail setup as well. now everything is up and running fine.
google voice on GTab
I am running the vegan experimental, I side loaded in Google Voice. I know google voice is not voip but I was thinking of trying something along the lines of the google voice- sipgate trick people have been using for the Galaxy Tab. LifeHacker has an article describing what I want to do but they use a softphone on a pc, I am trying to achieve the same success via a sipgate app from the android market. I have read in other forums about people getting it to work on the Galaxy Tab. I was wondering if anyone has gotten it to work on the GTab. PS I would love to link the LifeHacker site but can't due to my noobness to this forum.
Actually I just got it to work so I can make and receive calls from my tablet. Will post some tips on how to get it to work later. Still working out the kinks.

And have Google Now (minus Voice Support) working on my Nexus s 4G without having to go through all of the prop.build changes. A simple APK replacement, permissions, reboot.

Have you got location switched on? Settings, Location Services, tick Location and Google Search.
Clear cache, turn round twice and do a handstand.
Worked for me at least as I had the same issue (bar the turning and handstand)

Typing works, but really...nobody wants to have to always type out long questions or searches. Im just going to wait for the voice to get working, if it does. The Google Now might be specific to Jelly Bean not ICS in some ways, maybe thats causing voice not to work
